Reviews
Hello everyone, here is my honest review. We did not even get to attend this tour as the address was incorrect. They did not even try contacting us about where we were. We got lost multiple times. We could not contact them and they did not respond to our messages/calls. I am very disappointed about this whole situation as I was looking forward to trying some traditional Balinese street food. I would like a refund. After this situation, I have lost my appetite. If I could leave zero stars I would. Absolutely diabolical. From Ruby, Lydia, and Sophie.
It was lovely to experience a little of how the people of Bali actually live their lives in an urban setting. And we learnt so much about their food and culture
This was a truly fun and enjoyable experience under the watchful care of Putra, our guide. We went to two different markets and tried authentic Balinese street food. Each dish was delicious and the local vibe was great. The Balinese are a lovely, welcoming people.
What an experience! My family and I had a great time with Komang. We loved going to the night food market and trying some traditional Balinese dishes. They were all really yummy and unique. Komang spoke incredible English and was very friendly. He even taught us some phrases in the local Balinese language. He was very kind and attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed at all times. This was a brilliant tour and is definitely something you should do if you’re looking for an authentic and local experience.
We had a brilliant time on our street food tour! Lena was an amazing guide, who shared her local knowledge and was more than happy to answer questions that we had. The food we tried was delicious and gave us a real insight into different foods that we may not normally try, but would now happily eat again. Our kids (14 and 16) also had a brilliant time and tried almost everything on offer! Absolutely recommend!
This was the worst food tour I have ever been on. The meeting address was incorrect. The first restaurant was not open. The food was prepared in unsanitary conditions. There were no clean toilet facilities on the tour. We were required to take a taxi from location to location 2 times during the tour. The restaurant for roast suckling pig was dirty, noisy, disgusting, and dirty. Overall a terrible experience. Intrepid should be embarrassed. Our guide was friendly and did his best although the overall tour was a disaster.
Irfan introduced us to exotic fruit market that we were normally scared of trying, advised us to how to choose kue (cakes) and soto (soup), was knowledgeable as a history teacher of Indonesian food, respectable as a multicultural commentator of different cultural traditions, entertaining and engaging to ordinary people just like his customers. Genuinely lovable food-tour guy. Highly commended.
they called to let us know the kitchen closes at 830 pm and we had to be out of the restaurnat by 9 pm of course this was a last minute email so we had nowhere else to go in such a hurry thus we went despite ourselves
My guide for this tour was Lena , who was a excellent guide and very easy to talk to The meeting point is easy to find We started off by visiting a few local markets and trying some food from the markets, before going to a fruit seller and tasting some wonderful tasting fruits I had never. seen before, it was superb walking from market to market and seeing everyday normal life! Are last stop was a short taxi ride where we had a desert and local energy drink You are given lots to eat so I would advise to go on a empty stomach At the end of the tour Lena will organise a taxi to take you back to your hotel If you late a foodie and like to try new abs different foods and see areas tourists don’t normally see , you will enjoy this food tour
We had a great tour with Wira. He took us through the local market and explained a number of things before going to the food stalls to taste some great local food. We had already been in Bali for a while and we were able to taste things you don’t see on a lot of menus. This tour is a great way to see another side of food in Bali and taste some delicious street food. Wira was really good in his explanations and answering our questions about local foods.
Wira was an excellent guide and had a fun time looking and eating at places we would not have ventured to before. Go hungry as there is lots of food and Wira is a great guide giving history and context of what you are eating. 2 markets and multiple food tastings then a short taxi for a desert like no other were the order of the day for us and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Song was amazing. It was only me on the tour and it was great to learn about Balinese food and culture from Song. Food was amazing - come hungry as there is so much food to try.
Lena our guide was great friendly, very knowledgeable re the street food we were enjoying. As an older couple she assisted us navigating some of the rough footpaths and also crossing roads.
Our guide was fantastic and very friendly. She explained fully all the sites we went to and the food we ate it’s origins and cultural significance. The food was amazing there was plenty of it so I advise all people who take this tour to go on an empty stomach as there is much to eat and try. Overall a great tour with a very friendly tour guide and host restaurants .
Tini was a very friendly tour guide! We loved eating Bali’s authentic food. Thoroughly recommend this tour!
Our host, Ima, was outstanding. The weather was a little off, and she was able to go a bit impromptu to compensate.
Superb walk, small taxi ride at the end with insights into Balinese life as well as the food! So good to be providing trade to this street vendors, markets and restaurants.
Had a fantastic time on the discover where the locals eat food tour! Our guide Srix was lovely, very knowledgeable and would tell us about local customs while showing us points of interest along the way. We started with a short walk to the local produce market to try some local fruit, and taste a mix of six sweet or savoury dishes. Followed by a short walk to get some babi guling and some dessert. Overall a great insight to local life, definitely a worth while experience. Thank you Srix for a great time.
Excellent tour!!! Really really great tour of traditional food markets in Bali, the guide (sirx) is amazing to talk to and has a love for food aswell. The food was great, the information was great and it was really well thought out. Not touristy at all!!
We had a wonderful food tour with Wira. We visited various local markets and businesses, got to try a wide variety of delicious local/Indonesian dishes and ate to our heart’s content. Wira was very personable and we enjoyed pleasant conversation all evening long. We learned so much from him as he was very knowledgeable about local customs and history. Thanks again Wira for a very memorable experience. Highly recommend Wira and this food tour!
Combi bus was decked out really well & it was a lot of fun. Meeting point seemed to be a long way away, especially with all the xmas traffic. However, once inside the bus, with a drink & our own music pumping put loud, we soon had a fun time. 3 food stops, good local knowledge, tried different foods & enjoyed our time with our guide & driver.
We took this tour back in May with our friendly and knowledgeable guide I Made Susrama. Authentic local food in places we wouldn't have experienced otherwise and as we were the only 2 on the tour that evening, lots of opportunity to ask questions and learn about the Balinese way of life.
We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Our driver was on the spot for every food shop, and our food tour queen ensured all of our food samples got to us in a timely manner. Pack your appetites as we expected sample portions and each stop was a full meal! It was a Great way to sample different Balinese foods so that you are familiar with some of the things that you may order while you are visiting. The coolest part was that we rode in an old Volkswagen bus, complete with an integrated cooler, charging station, and wifi.
This tour was a great choice for our first trip to Bali. Our guide, Made, introduced us to local food and culture with three visits to warungs to sample popular dishes. The food was tasty and plentiful and Made told us a lot about Balinese culture and his own life. our transport, a VW Kombi was cool!
We had an incredible night last night in our combi van, 70s music air conditioned van with a chilli bin of refreshments. Dewa Alit was our host and the most gorgeous man u could ask for. He took us to three places to eat that u would never choose to go there without this tour. The food was incredible and I would highly recommend this tour!!
Before you book, Please be aware that you will be eating where the locals eat at those little places that we walk past as the average tourist. If you are expecting to eat in five star restaurants this is not for you but you will be the one that is missing out. The trip to the pickup point is a bit of a journey but it's wonderful to see the difference going from Legian to Seminyak out past Kerobokan to the shipping containers and the kombi van. The tour itself is an experience and a half - a beautifully converted 1980 VW kombi with sound system, led lights , air con and the most awesome Esky ever. The guide and driver make the package perfect - friendly and knowledgeable . First stop for babi gulang at a place where the locals eat and was doing a bustling trade the night we were there if you're not into chili let them know as it can be a bit of a kick. Next with this was the chicken soup that left hubby raving so I know it was good! The restaurant is far from "perfect" with a dirt floorand a visiting cat.. but the flavors are insane . Just remember you are eating where the locals eat ...not something that's going for Michelin stars but the food is deserving of it. I won't say too much about dessert apart from the fact that it is the most amazing explosion of flavors ever and the first thing I did was look up a recipe for it. I don't think I'll be able to make up with the same authenticity that we had- but i am sure going to try. I saw Bali with new eyes and my taste buds loved it Highly recommend
