Surf Lesson With A Personal Instructor At Kuta Beach

Instructor T(Tosa) is very patient, caring and responsive at doing briefing and teaching in water. He is local Balinese , has around 15 years of surfing experience and encourages me a lot, guides me every single movement to improve my surfing skills, also teaches me how to fall without get injured. I am very glad that my surfing skills improved a lot while having fun during the lessons, I highly recommend having surfing lessons with instructor T. Thank you!

This was my niece and I's first time trying to surf, and we had Blake and Manu as our instructors--I'm 54, so that's saying something! They were so patient, so encouraging, so absolutely lovely from start to finish. They encouraged us to keep trying even when we had wipeout after wipeout, and we both eventually were able to surf...like, really surf! In Bali! I can't say enough good things about Odysseys, Blake, and Manu, who all helped us realize a dream we didn't even know we had! ;) You also get all your pictures for less than $10 USD, so it's a ton of photographic evidence of a once in a lifetime experience. Lovely people, lovely scenery, lovely experience overall.

Our 13-year-old twin girls had an incredible experience brushing up on their surfing skills with Odysseys Surf School in Kuta. Their instructor, Tai, and their friendly, attentive lifeguard, Yudiarta, made every lesson enjoyable and memorable. Both Tai and Yudiarta were professional, patient, supportive, and had a great sense of humour, all while maintaining the highest standards of safety. Tai truly went above and beyond, making each session fun while providing personalised feedback that helped both girls improve their technique and confidence. The equipment was in excellent condition, and everything was exceptionally well organised from start to finish. We especially appreciated that the team checked the surf conditions each day and adjusted lesson times to catch the best waves. It meant being a little flexible with the schedule, but it was absolutely worth it. Surfing with Odysseys Surf School was fun, safe, and unforgettable. We highly recommend them to anyone wanting to learn to surf or improve their skills in Bali, whether you're a complete beginner or already have some experience. An amazing surf school so friendly professional. We booked 1 private for 4 days and one semi private for 2 days with Ames and Tuade for our family. They had us standing so quick and progressed super quick.. all with fun , smiles and lots of positive support. Not only the instructors but the school great communication , great pick ups and totally flexible , clean showers (which is a must as the beach has none ) clean toilets again huge bonus ! These guys are the best and totally recommend booking with them ! 5 star !!! Yes you pay a slight bit more - but worth every bit of it , do not question that ! Thank you guys for making our holiday

My son and I booked 1on1 lessons and I can say enough positive things about the coaches. They were patient and encouraging. Total pros!

The surfing was a really fun experience, and the guys took the time to explain everything and help you along the way. The only problem was that if you wanted to surf, you always had to wait for the people before you because they were essentially blocking your path, and you didn't want to deliberately hurt them by surfing into them. Otherwise, it was a really fun experience.

the teachers were very cool, in particular T, he was my teacher and he was so good at explaining and he was so calm with me. he was the best and so cool. I raccomanded this school very much!

We had a fantastic 3-day surfing experience with Odysséys Surf School — it was our first time ever trying surfing, and it couldn't have been better! The personalized beginner coaching was perfect for our family, including our 9-year-old daughter, Prisha. Prisha absolutely loved it — in fact, she didn’t want to leave the water! The coaches were incredibly professional, patient, and made the whole experience fun and safe. I had a private lesson here at Kuta beach. The online check in was efficient (I booked last-minute the day before and still managed to get booked in) and the communication from the company was professional and clear. On the day I met my instructor, changed at the onsite facilities which includes changing rooms, showers, clothes drier and lockers. Everything was clean and modern. A rash guard is provided free of charge. There is a good selection of boards including hard and soft top. The lesson itself was great. The waves were perfect for beginners and the sandy ground means it's way less risky than over coral. The instructor was extremely experienced, good English and importantly - lots of fun! The lesson was tailored to me including practice close to shore then paddling further out with the instructor once my consistency was good. He made time for a break at shore and free water when my fitness became the limiting factor! I made tonnes of progress in the 2 hours I was on the water. After the lesson I was offered (and no pushyness in the slightest I would add) to purchase professional photos taken from shore - the entire selection of about 10-15 photos for only 100k IDR! This was very impressive as many experiences like this I've had elsewhere would try to charge you that for one or two out of the bunch which often makes the value not worthwhile; here they give you the lot! That meant it was an easy yes from me. A fabulous morning and thoroughly recommended!

I cannot recommend the guys at Odysseys Surf School enough. They’re attention and teaching was second to none. A particular shout out to Ti & Wi, Wi for his patience with me and to Ti who has definitely given both the girls the surfing bug!

We had a great lesson for our 19 and 16 y.o children. Kids had a great time and rode many waves even as beginners, even despite being off-season in Kuta with some flotsam and jetsam around. Great value. Definitely recommend it highly. The kids Balinese instructor was great and spoke english well for us. I wish I could remember his name, but I'm pretty sure it begins with a "W"

We bring our kids, ages 13 and 7, to a private surfing lesson. The Odyssey team was well-prepared and friendly. We had Mr. Black and Mr. Hendra as instructors, who were really good with the kids. Julio was part of the rescue team, always ready to assist whenever needed. Good school.

My instructor was T who taught me the basics of surfing including how to get in the water safely. Safety was prioritised by this surf school as they even had wave watchers and lifeguards such as Michael with whom I had a lovely time chatting. T always encouraged me to ask questions and gave me detailed feedback on how to improve. I can tell he was very attentive to my form!

Odyssey provides an excellent service. Incredibly smooth process throughout. We took the semi private (couple) lesson and received pick-up, board and rash guard rental as well as great lessons. You can also purchase photos they take of your classes for a nominal fee which are lovely keepsake. Our instructor Amez was awesome! From his guidance and the steady waves both me and my boyfriend were able to get up on our boards within a few tries! Thank you Amez! We will definitely seek you out next time we are in Bali!

First 2 lessons were great. A lot of advice from guys always feel safe because its a lot of staff in the water and outside waching you. Thank you!!! We came as a couple for a semi-private lesson and the experience was professional and seamless from the start until finish. The facilities included rash tops, locker, towels, changing rooms, and showers. Our instructor was Blake who was an all-round awesome guy! He was clearly knowledgeable about surfing and knew how to convey this to beginners in a professional and easy-going way. He was very patient with us and gave us constructive feedback on how to improve during the session. We also had the option to buy candid photos taken during the session. We weren't aware that photos were going to be taken but we were glad that they did as the quality was great! We would definitely go again.

My 8 year old son was excited to try surfing, and had a fabulous 2.5 hour surfing lesson with Odyssey Surf School. Arrival and information was very professional, and his instructor was really great with him in the water, making sure he was perfectly safe throughout and getting him up on the board after only a couple of tries. My son had a great time, and I would happily take him for a surf lesson here again in the future.

I have never even touched a surfboard before this lesson, and at the end I was able to catch a few waves all by myself! My instructor was Black (Blake), and he was awesome. At the end when I was getting tired and the current was strong, he helped push my board for me so I could catch more waves. He and the lifeguard made me feel very safe the whole time. They provided lots of water on the beach. I also rented a rash guard, and they let me keep my stuff in the shop under surveillance which gave me peace of mind. They also took awesome videos and photos of me surfing that I bought at the end of the lesson (they give you a flash drive with all the pictures for about 225,000 IDR for one person). Awesome place, friendly instructors, and clean facilities. I would totally go back for another lesson with Black!

This is my 2nd time surfing but my 1st time with surfing school, and yes the price is higher while I feel more comfortable because they provide towel, suit, and bathroom. Trainers also give well instruction full hours. If you had no friend for taking your photo then you may buy from the shop after finished the class.

It was the first time we take a surf lesson. It was really well organised, we had vaucher for towels and locked storrage. (400'000.- as deposit for 2 people). The instructor explained the basis of surf, with examples and then go to the water. People help us and told when we have to take the waves and stand up. They gave us fresh water to drink, and we make a 15 minutes break between two hours lessons. At the end of the lessons we had the possibility to take a shower and buy the photos that was taken during the lessons. (275'000.- for two people)

Instructors at odyssey surf school are the best. We were standing up in no time. So much fun! Signed up for another 3 lessons after this class and was an intermediate surfer by the third lesson.

The staff spoke excellent english and were very nice and helpful. The surf teacher took care that those who needed more attention got it. Location of the place is ideally close to Kuta. Overall, would recommend to anybody starting surfing.

I booked four private lessons with Tuade, a former pro surfer sponsored by Oakley. Everything met perfectly my expectations.

Our 16 year old son had 4 private lessons (2 hours each) with Nanang over the course of ten days. From the very start we were impressed with the professionalism and organisation of the school. We chose them based on the TripAdvisor reviews and the fact we were staying at the Hard Rock next door. The instructors were all very experienced and encouraged everyone whatever their ability. Safety is taken seriously and despite the sometimes very big waves the instructors kept the students safe. The tuition Tom received was outstanding and photos below were during the last lesson. The rest of the family wanted to watch and the school went out of their way to be kind and let us sit under their umbrellas and on their bean bags making it a memorable experience for the whole family. The photographer takes amazing photos. The photos are very reasonably priced and absolutely no pressure to buy. Would recommend this surf school to all. Also I should mention during the final lesson my son wanted to do the turtle release further down the beach. Nanang was very accommodating letting Tom take a long break mid lesson and then resumed the lesson giving him extra tuition time. Thank you Nanang - you are a star.

Had an opportunity to take beginner surfing lessons @ Odysseys with Rico and had a blast. Odysseys provided transportation so we were picked up promptly at our hotel and driven to the their location in Kuta Beach. Odysseys also includes additional amenities with your lesson such as showers, towels, changing rooms, and pictures and videos of your lesson on a USB drive (extra cost). Great value and highly recommended.

We have two young teenage girls and they have never surfed before. We took them for a 2.5 hr semi private lesson and it was perfect for them. The instructor was great and the school they run is fabulous. I highly recommend this to other families wanting to give your kids an experience.

Got talked into trying surfing with my teenage son. It was so much fun, I can’t wait to go again. Odysseas were absolutely amazing from ease of booking, friendly shop staff, to an amazing Instructor in Rico. These guys really know there stuff and help you in a very relaxed way. There was constant helpful instruction after each wave, and encouragement throughout. All the instructors look like they love their jobs and create a fun, relaxed atmosphere whilst getting you up on the board quickly. Can’t recommend Odysseas highly enough! See you next time!

i was able to stand up in the first 20mins in the water!which i thought would never happen as im quite scared of open water.these guys actually know what they're doing!!!

I booked a private lesson which cost around £41 for a maximum of 2.5 hours. The lesson end after 2 hours because of high tide which was a shame. I also purchased all videos and photos that they took of me (a lot!) which was 150k/£8. This was my first ever surf lesson and Maddy, the instructor, was great at giving me feedback and shouting the right things to me each time. Within 20 mins I was on my board surfing! I found it more difficult due to being a snowboarder and a lot of the rules are the opposite of what I know in terms of balance and weight proportion! Would highly recommend this.

Had a 2-day course with the school and opted for a group instead of private lesson. Even though I had different instructors for the 2 days, they were all fabulous! Not only were they professional, they also ensured that it was fun learning how to surf. The place is easily accessible since it was along Kuta beach. We were staying at Mercure Kuta so it was really easy to just head back and shower. They provide shower and locker facilities as well for those who stay in other hotels. Will definitely recommend to all beginners!

I took private surfing lessons for several days at Odyssey Surf School in Canggu, Bali. It was the very first time in my life to learn surfing and I was actually afraid of big waves. My private surf instructor, Mr. Sujana Manzu, is a very intelligent, competent and kind/patient surf teacher that I learned to stand up on the surfing board on the first hour of our surfing lesson! He patiently answered my questions with science as a basis so I gained confidence easily and trusted him with my life. We talked about wave heights and formation. His colleague and fellow surf instructor Agung (Igusti Putu) was also very intelligent and awesome! They taught me well. Investing in learning surfing with them was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life.

The facilities are very modern and the staff is very nice, definitely worth it to check this out. Also the beach conditions are great! There are waves for beginners as well as intermediates depending on the tide conditions. It was such a fun experience!

My wife and I took this first time surf lesson on our honeymoon, and with the amazing teacher we had, went from falling over to surfing like pros! Our teacher Fijan was an incredible surfer who gave us clear instructions and pointers to get us standing in no time! We had so much fun with his helpful and friendly attitude. After the lesson on the ground, I went into the sea. And from the first try, I was able to stand on the board! It was a really amazing experience and I enjoyed it a lot. This was a very short trip, so I only tried once, but I would like to take other lessons again when I go to Bali next time.

Our instructor Nana (or Nanang -sorry if you are reading this) was very helpful. Odyssey and Kuta Beach is really the best for the beginners because it is all sand, no rocks and to get the main idea ; how to stand up how to stand right on the board it is a good spot. Our instructor was very patient and helpful guiding in the right time. In the end there was a surprise of almost 100 pictures and videos of myself struggling :) Thank you.
