We had a great time learning from Putu! When we travel, we usually learn some local dishes to take the memories home with us. Putu welcomed us to her home in the quiet country side, she gave us a Balinese house tour which is very interesting to learn as well. Her family also has some cute chickens running around, digging soil, and taking sand baths. They are super adorable. During the lesson, she prepared everything and showed us the ingredients and walk us through the taste palette. Ingredients are not complicated at all. But the flavor layered on top of each other made the dishes easily the best we tried during our trip. We made some Nasi Sela, Tempe manis, Perkedel jagung, Satay Ayam and Urab together. We cannot forget how great the flavor bomb of the peanut sauce! it's amazing. Highly recommend spending some time learning Balinese cuisine with Putu.

Real authentic cooking experience in Putu’s open air kitchen. Very well explained and excellent food. Great experience. Family Van Delm
My friends and I had the best time with Putu!! The market tour and cooking class were probably one of our favorite Bali experiences. We are so grateful to Putu for opening her home to us. She introduced us to Balinese food and recipes, and also gave us a glimpse into family, personal lives, and religious and cultural traditions. I would absolutely recommend this experience to everyone. If I come back to Bali, I would definitely enjoy another visit with her!
Amazing time! Will definitely be back
Putu, Pashka and Made hosted my wife and I to a great cooking class. To be welcomed into the family compound was an honour. Putu described the compound layout and architecture aswell as diving deep into the gods which Putu offers everyday. We prepared six meals which all tasted fantastic because of the depth that Putu taught in traditional techniques. I seldom review anything on the internet. I genuinely recommend this Balinese cooking class.
Had an amazing experience with Putu and her family! Putu is very warm and hospitable. She also taught us to make amazing Balinese food. It felt like hanging out with family. Her garden is absolutely lovely. Would highly recommend to anyone who is visiting Bali.
Everyone gives Putu a 5 out of 5. But she should get a ten. We learned a lot about Hindu, Indonesian culture and lots about food too. I have taken food tours all over the world. The only other one that comes close is Chaing Mai’s farm cooking school. Get ready to be thrilled by a genuine classy lady.
We had an amazing time with Putu at the market and then back to her Village and home. Thank you so much for the informative class Putu. The kids and ourselves truly appreciate all the hard work you and your family have put into providing such a special cultural experience, one we will never forget. The food was delicious! Having a tour through your farm was also a highlight with our son being able to harvest his favourite, a mangosteen.
From pick up to drop off, this experience was filled with warmth, charm, culture, great food, hospitality and generosity. Putu's house was amazing and wonderful to taste real Balinese life. It is a cooking lesson, but so much more! The market tour, the walk around her wonderful garden and home as well as the knowledge she shared will be remembered long after we return home. This is an absolute "must do" ! Suksma Putu, from Rosie and Kerry
This was the best thing we did while in Bali. We would highly recommend doing the market tour and cooking class together as gives you a wonderful insight to local culture. We also got to enjoy a delish market breakfast! The home and garden tour was incredible as we learnt more about village life and how they nurture the land and grow their own food! Having a private class was great as it gave us the opportunity to learn every step of the cooking process and ask many questions. And ofcourse the food was incredible. Thank you so much to Putu and her family for sharing their home and culture with us.
Putu has been both a wonderful host and friend. She was warm and friendly. At the market, she gave a very good rundown of the ingredients and the culture behind the food. At her food, she was gracious in the sharing and was very generous with guiding through the culinary steps. Our 5yo boy absolutely loved the experience, chasing chickens, ducks and dogs at her backyard. The food was amazing, and our having cooked it made all the more sumptuous! Highly recommended.
On our last day in Ubud, we had the joy of booking this experience and it truly became the highlight of our time in Bali. Putu and family welcomed us with warmth and kindness, opening their home to us. She guided us through the process with such patience, especially with our teens, making the entire experience feel both fun and meaningful. Every dish was prepared with the freshest ingredients, and the flavors were simply delicious. This wasn’t just a cooking class; it was a glimpse into Balinese culture, hospitality, and heart. We left not only with full stomachs, but with full hearts, and memories we will treasure forever. If you’ve never tried something like this, I can’t recommend it enough. We can’t wait to recreate these dishes back home and be reminded of this special day. Thank you again, Putu, for opening your home and sharing your world with us.
A heartwarming dive into Bali’s vibrant colours, scents, and flavours in the beautiful, inspiring home and organic garden of a lovely rice farming family just outside of Ubud. Our day began at the bustling market in Pejeng where we met the wonderful Putu to explore local produce and traditions and taste local cakes and fruits. Putu makes an excellent host - kind, patient, eloquent, knowledgeable, particularly good with children. Next we headed to Putu’s peaceful, warm and welcoming home and kitchen for a blissful day of cooking. We learnt so much from Putu as we chopped, ground and grilled. The kitchen buzzed with laughter and steam, with chickens roaming around Putu’s impressive garden. Needless to say, our feast was absolutely delicious. This was one of our favourite experiences in Bali.
Putu was so welcoming into her home - prior to the class she gave us an explanation of Bali houses and designs, where the ingredients are grown and how they live. The class was in English and easily understandable. Food was so tasty & entire experience was amazing. Strongly recommend this!
Everything was lovely, the private cooking lesson was an awesome experience! Learned a lot through talking about the Balinese experience. The campus is beautiful, the engagement was pleasant and I felt comfortable throughout!
We had the most amazing time with Putu exploring a local market and then joining her in her home to cook an amazing meal! We were picked up at our hotel and toured a local market that was off the beaten path, learning much about local fruits and veggies. But the highlight was the delicious 5 entree meal that we made with Putu. The outdoor kitchen and friendly tutelage were great, and we really appreciated that most of the ingredients came from her own gardens. No previous kitchen skill required, but everything tasted like it was made by a chef, and the recipes were all things that you could make at home. A brilliant afternoon and super highly recommended
We had a fantastic time with Putu today. She gave us a wonderful tour of her local market and explained all the ingredients and things on offer. We were able to ask lots of questions and Putu was so knowledgeable. Her home is gorgeous, she explained all about the different aspects of Balinese life and culture. The cooking class was so hands on. I do plenty of Asian cooking at home but even I learnt several new things to take back with me to improve my skills. I would highly highly recommend to anyone looking for an authentic cooking class and/or market tour to join with Putu!
My partner and I had a delightful morning with our host, Putu, at her cooking experience. The market visit was well worth while, where Putu showed us many of the local foods and explained how they are used in Indonesian cooking. She even brought us some freshly prepared food and fruit at the market for us to sample. At her home we had a wonderful time visiting her family temple and garden, and of course preparing a variety of Indonesian dishes that we later feasted on until we could eat no more. Her outdoor covered cooking area is clean and spacious and efficiently run. Putu is very knowledgeable and friendly, answered all our questions and gently guided us through the food preparation and cooking processes. We highly recommend this cooking adventure with Putu and her family.
My wife and I did this on our honeymoon and I will say it is one of the highlights of our trip. Our guide Putu was amazing. She took us around the markets and helped us cook the best meal we had on our trip. This tour is great way to get an authentic look at day to day life in Ubud.
Our instructor and guide Putu was so nice! Her english is great. She helped us through each step with good advice on what to try to achieve and what to avoid. The food was amazing and we ended up making enough for leftovers 🙏
Putu is amazing! Her hospitality was amazing and we had SO much fun! We made 5 different dishes at Putu’s home after our tour of the market
This was a brilliant experience. We took a tour of a market place first, learning about the many different local ingredients, then went back to the farm to cook. The course was really great for a family activity - there were many different courses to prepare so everyone was involved. Our host was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, inviting us into her home and showing us the workings of a typical Balinese farm. And the food we made together was absolutely delicious! My only regret is that I'd eaten breakfast beforehand (still we are able to box up the copious quantities of food we didn't eat there and are looking forward to having them later!)
My friend Jodie and I went the the Lemon Grass cooking school in Ubud and we thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the time shared leaning about the Balinese culture their traditions and cooking nine different meals
Had the most amazing experience with Putu. She made it a really enjoyable experience. Would highly reccomend to anyone wanting to do a cooking class whilst in Bali
Putu picked us up at our accommodation. She gave us all kinds of information about Balinese fruit and vegetables at a local market. Afterwards we cooked at her home. She told us a lot about the dishes and Balinese traditions. 100% recommendable!
What an experience. Putu and her husband made this tour so memorable. From the moment they picked us up Putu was so kind and accomodating. We enjoyed breakfast from their local market and she served it in her home with coffee. We cooked 6 traditional dishes one was a bonus dish because we mentioned we loved a water spinach dish we tried at a Warung. Putu grabbed some from the market while we were there to cook the dish for us. After we ate the amazing food at her home we toured her lovely garden. Luckily, we had the pleasure of seeing her village temple where once a year they have a celebration for the farmers. Putu took us with her for the blessing ceremony. The whole experience felt so personalised & we even took all the left overs for dinner!! I cannot explain how special this whole thing was & it’s an experience I’ll never forget. I will be coming to visit again in their villa once it’s built and doing the class next time I’m in Bali definitely!!!
We had a wonderful day with Putu, a very empathic and peaceful person. She showed us the local market, her impressive house and garden with so many vegetables and ingredients we used to cook. The cooking class was very fun. We learned a lot and the food was amazing. Thank you so much for having us. We highly recommend this tour. Leonie & David
We had such an incredible time with Putu! She and her husband picked us up from our villa in Ubud for a local market tour where we were actually the only tourists. We then headed to her village where she gave us a tour of her home temple and beautiful property. Putu gave us a very in-depth overview of Bali culture and customs and was happy to answer all our questions about Bali life. Putu’s class was so intentionally put together—not only was the food amazing but we felt very engaged throughout because she was such an attentive host and teacher. I do cooking classes all the time when I travel but I can honestly say this was one of the best travel experiences I have had. I would highly recommend this activity if you are looking for an authentic, local Bali experience.
The cooking class we attended was fantastic! Very hands on and everything tasted wonderful. I has expected one simply dish but we made five!
Putu was very welcoming, hospitable and informative. We felt privileged to experience a little of traditional Balinese life in a beautiful self-sufficient village community. The cooking class was great: well organised and a fun family activity; and the food was delicious.
I had a great time and learned so many new things. The recipes were so yummy and I can’t wait to try them at home. Highly recommend
It was a really well organised day, a lovely family and absolutely delicious food. It was great to visit the local markets and also to see the family’s extensive vegetable garden
The host (Putu) is an absolute gem, funny, informative and charming. She provides a genuine look into the Balinese culture. On this adventure I finally felt like I was in Bali and had gained some culture rather than just deepen my tan. Our host (Putu) picked us up from our Ubud hotel in a comfortable air-conditioned van. On the way to the market we discovered the her English was absolutely impeccable! At the market she educated us on the different foods and ceremonial goods available. Then bought us some traditional Balinese sweets for our breakfast. With all the ingredients in hand we ventured to her home. Upon arriving she gave us a quick tour of her beautiful and traditional Balinese home which she shares with several generations of her family. We then walked through her sumptuous garden which she uses to feed her family. She was kind enough to twist off a fresh coco pod so we could taste fresh chocolate beans for the 1st time. We then sat down for a breakfast feast of coffee, sweets and a myriad of fruits. It was decadent and incredible. Im between bites we learned about Putu and Bali and shared a bit about ourselves too. With a belly full of energy we headed to a purpose built outdoor kitchen for our cooking class. Putu walked us through each recipe, teaching us the ingredients and the techniques that her mother taught her. She was a supportive, detail oriented teacher who always made sure to keep us chefs in good humor. After countless rounds of chopping, frying and grinding we were famished and excited to taste our creation. The effort was worth it, in the first bite it was clear that this was going to be the best meal I've had in Bali, it was fresh, authentic and true. We ate as much as we could, with Putu always urging us to eat more before we packed ourselves a doggy bag for dinner. Full, sleepy and content we were driven back to our hotel where we said our goodbyes and went in for a nap.
We had a fantastic time with Putu & family, Putus’ knowledge and skill in preparing traditional Balinese food is exceptional and it was so much fun. The whole experience was great value for money, we’re taking some great recipes home with us and we can’t recommend this tour highly enough. If you want a Balinese food experience to remember, book this and you won’t be disappointed.
It was an amazing experience which we will cherish forever. Putu is such a lovely lady which explains all the steps in so much detail. An experience that truly shouldn't be missed and we recommended for everyone.
A brilliant day. Putu gave a beautiful introduction to Balinese culture, society and family life before a very hands on cooking experience. The food from her garden and rice was fresh from the paddy. Highly recommended.
Great experience with Putu! She welcomed us into her home and taught us about Balinese culture. The market experience was most welcome and the cooking lessons were excellent. Would recommend to anyone looking for an authentic experience.
Highly recommend! Putu and her husband picked us up and we first went to a local market where she talked us through all the produce (and selected a delicious Balinese breakfast for us - don’t eat beforehand!). We then went to her family home and she guided us through preparing lunch - so yummy with enough for leftovers. Really felt like glimpsing more than the tourist experience of Bali!
Putu was great! we can 1000% recommend the cooking lessons with her and her family! she is warm, super patient and the cooked food is fantastic! the experience of being in their house and cooking like the locals do was amazing! definitely book with her! as it is private she had a lot of time for us and explains everything wonderfully! Insider tip: it's best not to have breakfast! there is enough food 😉
I did this class with my wife and with neither of us being overly good at cooking Putu had her work cut out for her. She was extremely polite, friendly and patient during the entire experience and the food was amazing. Their family welcomed us into their home with open arms and were absolutely lovely. Id highly recommend this experience to anyone interested, even if youre a novice cook like us.
This was one of our favourite things that we did in Bali. Putu was amazing, super friendly and explained everything we were seeing and doing beautifully. Highly recommend this incredible experience. The food we made was sensational and it was beautiful to be welcomed into their home.
I booked this class for my group of 5, seeing the positive reviews. This class did not disappoint - this was the absolute highlight of Bali for all of us, it was AMAZING! While this class may be on the pricier side of things (relatively) - it was worth every bit of the money we paid. Putu and her family were awesome. They were communicative before the class day, making sure our rides were in order. They came to pick us up exactly at the place & time that was promised. Then the experience began at a local traditional market, where Putu explained the different cultural aspects and the market items. It was so fun and informative! We even got to pick out some extra fruits that we wanted to try. We then went to Putu's home - which was beautiful and spacious. We started with trying the various fruits and exploring the home - the weather was nice and sunny at this point. Then started the cooking in a beautiful outdoor kitchen, shaded perfectly by the canopies of Balinese flora. The space was prepared and cleaned - and the ingredients were all ready to be handled. Each dish was thoroughly explained by Putu, and we completed each from scratch, adjusting the spiciness level as we went. It started raining in the middle, and that made the experience even better (and truly Balinese) as we cooked to the serene sound of the pouring rain. Then the dishes were completed right on time for lunch - which we enjoyed with a bottle of beer. The food was so yummy and authentic - only because Putu and her family were guiding us through each step. We got to see Putu's chickens and dogs, and my goodness. Words can barely express how amazing this experience was. I've been recommending it to everyone headed to Bali, and if you're looking for an immersive, relaxing and private experience, don't look further!!
Putu hosted the most wonderful cooking class and market tour. While touring the market, she bought mangosteen, rambutan, snake fruit and many Balinese desserts for me to try. And a delicious rice spinach soup. Her home compound is beautiful and full of amazing fruit and vegetable trees as well as rice fields—what an incredible setting to learn how to cook! She instructed me how to cook 5 traditional dishes that were all so so delicious! I absolutely loved everything about this experience and would come back in a heartbeat if I ever come back to Bali. Thank you so so much Putu for opening your home and for this market and cooking experience.
Wonderful experience with Putu and her family.... one of the best cooking classes we have done and great to see traditional family life in a village near Ubud! The food we cooked was incredibly tasty! I would come again!
What a way to spend a morning in Ubud! Putu was the kindest and most knowledgable host who welcomed us into her family home to cook a variety of traditional Balinese dishes! She taught us an array of skills in the kitchen and facts about the native food bought in the local market. We felt so welcome in their home and the dishes we created were absolutely fantastic! We highly recommend to anyone, families/couples/solo travellers, to join Putu for this cooking experience! We will definitely be back for some more tips and tricks! Max and Izzy :)
This is more than a cooking class - this is a chance to see and experience true Balinese hospitality. We had such an amazing time. Putu is a wonderful teacher. You will not only learn to make delicious Balinese dishes from scratch you will also learn about local life and customs. The drive out Putu’s home is also spectacular. Put this on your must do list - you will have a truly wonderful time and a very happy tummy!!
We had a lovely time with Putu and would highly recommend this experience. We were picked up from our hotel and driven to the local market in Putu's area. She explained the local produce and purchased food that we used in our cooking. Our favourite part of this market was the sticky rice and palm sugar treats (delicious) purchased. We were taken to Putu's family home and given a tour. We also ate fresh fruit, tea & coffee and the delicious treats (from the market) before moving to the cooking area to cook. We had a fun time cooking with Putu and prepares and cooked a few traditional dishes. The area was very clean and everything flowed really well. We ate everything we cooked and chatted with Putu at the end. We highly recommend this authentic experience with the lovely Putu.
An excellent cooking class run by attentive, friendly people. Highly recommended. Come to the class with an empty stomach because you will be getting lots of food!
Putu is a wonderful teacher and person! we had an amazing time and the food was outstanding! Also her husband and her sister are lovely people. Would book again!!
Literally. Putu and her family are wonderful. The market tour is in depth, and you can sample local produce and sweets. She knows the market in detail, and explains items from its source, quality, and how it’s used. She answered all our questions, and guided us on our spice tolerance with our cooking! We also picked up a little Bahasa and some wok skills. And, her chickens and dogs were amazing. Again, thank you so much for the wonderful experience. Suksma Putu
