We had an absolutely phenomenal time at the cooking school. Everything about today was great, pick up, the Market and at the cooking school. Made our Chef was very funny and made the day absolutely sensational. A great day of cooking, meeting new people and eating sensational food which we help prepare. I recommend giving it a go. It's s one of the best thing we have ever done in Bali.

The cooking class was one of our favourite activities in Bali! Jimmy, our cooking teacher, was so funny, friendly and knowledgeable about all the ingredients we were using. We made over six different dishes, and they all turned out delicious!! 😋 It was such a fun experience and I would definitely recommend this cooking class to anyone visiting Bali!
My son and I loved this experience - chef was great and all everything was planned and executed like a well oiled machine. Good mix of interactive and learning. Recipe book to take home. Highly recommend!
Thank you so much for a wonderful experience. Jimmy, our cooking instructor, created such a fun day for us all. We couldn't recommend this cooking class enough. Jimmy is so funny, knowledgeable & a wonderful chef to learn from. We toured a local market and learned alot of the balinese culture, we also got to take home a balinese cook book! Such a sweet gift to bring back home some tasty recipes we made today as a group. Thank you again for a memorable experience! What a great use of our time visiting Bali!!!
What a great experience. We went shopping in an authentic Balinese market to learn about the ingredients and then back to the kitchen to cook. We made many great dishes and left with a cookbook. The staff were so knowledgeable and helpful and the food was outstanding!
Sensational time. It started in the market where our Chef taught us about the spices about to be used, and the food we created was awesome. Come hungry and you won’t be disappointed. Block off a few hours
A fabulous morning including hotel pick-up, transport to market, cooking class at the Warung and scrumptious meal THAT WE COOKED!
Amazing experience. The staff were so lovely and made the day so much fun. And the food .... omg... if you are thinking o doing a cooking class...this is the one to do! ....hint... dont eat breakfast!
We got picked up from our hotel and taken to the meeting point at the market. It was interesting learning about the different ingredients and also the daily offerings you see everywhere. Chef Jim was entertaining and funny. We made a number of dishes (7?) that we then ate for lunch. There were plenty of opportunities to learn and get involved. The ingredients were portioned out but we still needed to do the chopping, preparation and some of the cooking. We (myself, husband and 15yo daughter) thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would recommend the experience to others.
It was an amazing experience and definitely worth more than what you pay. I would highly recommend it if you’re a foodie — and even if you’re not. It was easy to follow without being dumbed down, and everything was absolutely delicious.
The chef/cook was very knowledgeable. They took us to the markets, showed us how to make different dishes. A really unique experience for you and your partner or even with family or friends. Make sure you come here with an empty stomach because there's a lot to eat. Highly recommended!
This is definitely an experience to do whilst in Bali. From the start going to the local market to learn the flavors and then going back and cooking was amazing. The chef was great and the team helped us where needed, then the best part you eat what you have made super delicious 😋
Shared the experience with my Mum, Son and his partner. The 4 of us were picked up at our hotel and headed off to join 8 others before going to the local market. Here our guide explained some of the ingredients we would be using in the cooking and also some local knowledge of how the markets worked etc. We then were ferried in cars to the restaurant where we cooked about 10 dishes before enjoying lunch. Very enjoyable experience and well run.
The experience was engaging starting with a market tour to see where ingredients are bought. Back at the restaurant the practical demonstrations and inclusiveness to be part of the experience is done seamlessly. To crown the session you get to enjoy together the cooking. Loved it. The recipe guide is a great keepsake and easy to follow up to prepare the meals back home. Thank you.
A wonderful cooking class with lovely instructors and helpers for the kids! So friendly and welcoming, even of our young children! The short tour of the food markets was great although quite brief. My kids were shocked by the plucked raw whole chickens!!! Chef Made was informative and friendly while showing us around. The class itself was wonderful - we made so many dishes over the morning and had so much food for lunch it was way too much! Chef made accommodated our vegetarian and no spice taste buds as well as assisting our younger kids with jobs they could take on themselves. It was a little long for younger kids but they still had a wonderful time and tried some new foods. Bring your appetite and muscles to stir the wok!!
My two daughters, mother in law and I did the cooking class and loved it! The class included a trip to the market and then cooking of 7 dishes which we ate. It was a very professional experience suitable for every age. It was great to see Balinese cooking in action. A fun family activity
We had the best time with made at the cooking class! The trip to the market was so interesting & the class itself was fun. Made was fun and informative and we got to cook and eat so many delicious Balinese dishes. All the other staff were great & helpful too with good banter Would definitely recommend.
I really enjoyed the cooking course and have an appreciation of the steps involved in food preparation and cooking . The course is run by very nice people . Loved the market tour . Jim Reeves head chef is a very good instructor and the food we made was great to eat afterwards.
Great experience! Staff were really helpful and the day was lots of fun. The market tour was interesting.
So much fun learnt so much Enjoy my cooking class with my friends and meet some amazing people 💕 loved it
Awesome experience would highly recommend so much knowledge was shared with us was very professional and fun!
Very rushed and they wanted to do all the work for you rather than showing and letting you have a go. All ingredients were pre prepared. Not even sure if the meal was the ones we made at the end. Charged surcharge on the drinks as well as another way to get yr money. Be careful. Definitely not worth doing. If your motel offers it do it there. And the market tour was woeful
A really well organised class. Informal, friendly, lots of participation, and led by a chef who was clearly an expert. Thank you Made. We cooked 9 dishes, which later became lunch. The group was broken into three tables of four and each group cooked the same dish. Had a couple of beers as we cooked, warm and comfortable (lots of fans). Would definitely recommend!
This experience was great value for money. We had a lovely time learning about the types of food used, the Balinese culture and how to make 9 different dishes. Our instructor Made was a surely knowledgeable and interesting and all the staff here made us feel welcome - they ever brought out a cake and music to celebrate my birthday that day! The class was only 10 people and everyone had a turn at the different stages of food making. We got to try samples along the way before sitting down to a gigantic lunch of all the dishes we made. We were given a recipie book to take home as well as great memories and photos!
The Best Balinese Cooking Class. This was an amazing workshop class accompanied by Jimmy, balanese chef. We started at 8 am visting the local market, where we learned about indonisean fruit, veggies and spices used for cook. Then we got back to the restaurant named ChefWarung Nia to start our learning. In total we learnt to prepare 8 dishes including different Spice Paste for chicken, seafood and pork. Also incredibles and tasty salads also. Dishes were Ayam Betutu-Bali, Be Celeng Base Manis, Sate Ayam, Tum Ayam, Lawar, Pesan Be Pasih, Pecelan, Mie Goreng, Nasi Goreng Ayam & Urab jagung. Now excited to get back home to put in pratice all these recipes. In fact now, I obtained new knowledges how to obtain new flavours and tasty food with the combination of garlic, echalot, different types of gingers, tumeric, limo, lemon grass, peanuts, wallnuts and red hot chillies. Fantastic !
The class was fun and informative! We enjoyed touring the food market and learning about local ingredients. We cooked many Balinese dishes and they turned out delicious! Our class guide did a great job explaining things and showing us how to cook the food. We would highly recommend!
Loved this cooking class! As a solo traveller I felt completely included—the chef was fun, welcoming, and created a great atmosphere. Well-organised, spotless kitchen, and so much laughter while learning. A real highlight of my trip!
This wasn't my first cooking class, yet it was the first time I've done one in this instruction style. First, this is a group style cooking/eating; meaning you are jointly prepping shared dishes rather than individual portions (which is what I was used to). I'm personally not a fan because I'm a firm believer that you can't eat at everyone's house. Second, you are partially prepping 9 dishes. Key word, partially. I lost interest half way through because I was watching most of the time and not doing. You'd partially prep something and then the instructors aids would wish the dishes away to finish cooking in their kitchen. Third, the class sizes are massive, talking 20-40 people. Way too large in my opinion. Fourth, you're prepping for 4 hours if not longer. The group was starving since most skipped on breakfast. Finally, the final meal was super underwhelming. Only 1/3 of the dishes were actually tasty. Everything else was bland or super dry.
From the minute we arrived it was informative and so much fun. Learning the way the offerings are made and why right through to the different spices used. Our head chef was so much fun and joked along with us.
A wonderful experience. This was one my favorite activities i did in bali. It was authentic and informative and the food was yummy. Gin was our chef who taught us and he was great. I would do this again! Thank you staff for being amazing and teaching our how to cook traditional foods from bali ❤️
It was everything I hoped for and more. We started at the market, to experience the different ingredients and spices, then went back to cook nine dishes. Afterwards we had a fabulous lunch of everything we cooked. Fabulous!
Had a fantastic time, learnt new skills. A really positive environment, Komang was great and all the staff very helpful
From early morning markets to preparing spice pastes chicken fish and vegetarian dishes to eating a sumptuous feast with our informative host Made- best day in Bali so far
Excellent day with wonderful chef. Starting at the markets and ending with a delicious meal. Would recommend the experience.
Super fun class. I've done a few cooking classes and the pace of this one was great and I learned a bunch of new tricks!
Excellent experience, loads of fun. We learnt how to cook multiple dishes, and were given the recipes so we could make them at home. We also ate what was cooked and it was delicious.
The class and good were amazing, very hands on and well curated and lots of fun. Went with my daughter, we were paired up with another lady and her daughters, worked out perfect. Totally recommend.
Be prepared and able to be on your feet for 5+ hours. We arrived at 8am and left just after 1pm. An amazing experience, starting with a market tour, before learning and preparing many dishes. Our head chef was knowledgeable and helpful. Other staff at the restaurant were helpful and friendly also.
The experience with three grandchildren aged 10, 12 and 13 was fantastic. The chef and staff were very informative and the class much more hands on than a class we had done elsewhere. To get to eat what we had reared was good. Hopefully the kids will make it again when we return home to Australia. Loved it!
Had a great time. Made was so friendly and yet very professional. Learnt so much about the food and the culture. Go hungry, so much food! Very good value. Highly recommend.
Such a wonderful experience! This class, including the market visit, was a real highlight of our recent trip to Bali. I loved the market visit and seeing the ingredients and experience a part of local culture, though some may find it a little hot and crowded; this didn't bother me personally (and the guide will let you know what to expect), but if you don't enjoy raw foods, and tight spaces you may like to just join the cooking portion. Chef Made was fantastic, friendly and made the experience lots of fun for our family. Such a huge variety of dishes, and I feel like I can go home and make them again (thank you for the recipe book - super helpful). It's made me realise how learning to cook local dishes links you to the travel experience, and I would definitely recommend it to others. Thank you for a great day! Also such great follow-up, with photos and video provided (including the ones attached taken by the staff on the day) - these are nice to have as we were busy cooking and it's nice to have the moments captured!
The class was fun and well-organized. But I specifically want to give a shout out to a couple of people. I used Grub to get a car to take me and my children to the cooking class that morning. I don't know what I did differently from usual, but when I got there, the driver said I agreed to pay cash for the ride. I didn't have any cash with me. It's only 39,000 rupiahs (about 2.5 usd). I was basically stuck and had no way to pay him. Out of desperation, I ran into the cooking class and asked one of the staff members to lend me some cash. She actually did(sorry I wrote her name down on my notes, but lost it) ! Later on, I tried to get some cash from another fellow class participant by offering to Venmo her money in exchange for some cash so I can pay the staff member back. These two ladies from Perth Australia just offered to give me the cash without me paying them back. Together they filled my heart with gratitude. I felt I have experienced humanity at its best. They all had every reason not to help me out, but they were so nice and kind, which left a long-lasting impression on me and inspired to help the next person in need.
The best cultural experience so far. We started at the market to learn a little about the culture of Bali and the ingredients that we would be using in the class. Upon our return to the class we got into making our delicious feast for lunch. Our chef was with us the entire time and demonstrated/ guided us on every step. Our dishes were amazing.
We had in incredible time at Warung Nia! The market trip was really enjoyable - it definitely felt different to learn about the ingredients in the same place they're sold, rather than back at the cooking area. The class has also negotiated favorable prices for many ingredients (many of which are airplane and customs safe) - often 2-3x better than if you tried to purchase them independently. The market is crowded, so like any busy areas watch your bags, and make sure you're keeping the space clear for the regular patrons. We didn't have any troubles hearing our chef's explanations even in the busy market. The chef also provided alternatives to many Balinese ingredients that may be difficult to find in local markets back in your home country, which was also really helpful. The cooking area itself is outside, but covered. There are fans going and water provided, so although it is warm it isn't unbearable. I recommend bringing extra water if that is a concern. Additional drinks (and souvenirs) are available for purchase as well. Lockers (with locks) are provided if you have bags or other personal belongings. The class itself covered ~10 dishes. No one dish is done start to finish (many require several hours of marinating or slow braising), but we got to do a variety of steps that made it feel like a complete experience. We got some snacks (that we made) along the way, but don't eat too many of those! The meal at the end is way more than most tables can finish, and is all delicious. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and will happily answer questions (or jump in to ball you out if you're falling behind). Our favorite dishes to make were the nasi goreng and mi goreng, stir fried in woks over high heat. Don't get too close to the wok, as it can burst into flames (this is a good thing). The staff took photos throughout the event, which we received via WhatsApp - perfect if you're too busy cooking to grab your phone. We walked away with a certificate of completion, a recipe book covering everything we made, and full stomachs. If you somehow have room for dinner, or if you're going to have more time in Seminyak, they also offer a 15% discount (at the time of writing) if class participants come back later. They are known for their pork ribs, that unfortunately we just didn't have the stomach space to try! We would happily do this again and recommend it to anyone who enjoys cooking (and more importantly eating). We had a variety of skill levels in our group, and everyone was able to participate safely and enjoy. We didn't have any children in our group, but there were other tables that did and it looked like the children were able to participate as well.
Great cooking class which started with a market visit and ended with a flaming wok. Our chef was very informative and we cooked a beautiful feast of Balinese food for lunch. Great value for money
This was one of the highlights of our trip to Bali! Chef Made was fantastic: clear, funny, patient and engaging. The ingredient prep was well organised and clean. At the end, we had a feast and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We met great new friends and would definitely recommend!
Besides the amazing food they teach you how to select, prepare, cook and then eat, the instructor was fantastic and the company was even better. Would recommend this class as a great way to engrain yourself in the culture and enjoy eating delicious food you get to make yourself.
My partner and thoroughly enjoyed our time here; we made our own way to the Warung and once arrived were given a water bottle each and escorted to the market where we were given an in depth tour of the local food and lifestyle by a personal tour guide. We were escorted back to the Warung where we were taught amongst a group of 8 by Jimmy Reeves. He was very educational and light hearted, held a great atmosphere and was very kind. It was so fun being able to interact with new people from around the world (Jasmine and Jessie from Hong Kong). Trying to cook a new cuisine like Indonesian was awesome. The food was delicious and the staff at Warung Nia were all lovely. Thank you so much for such an amazing experience, I will be recommending this cooking class to all of my loved ones who travel to Bali!
I’m a solo traveller (63) and joined one of the groups doing this Balinese cookery course in Seminyak (they pick up) this morning and it was fabulous. Great teaching, great company and divine food. It was lovely to meet other people and it was a good laugh too Really recommend.
The class was fun, engaging, clean and the food so yum! The staff were knowledgeable, funny and very helpful. As a solo traveler, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Don’t question it, book it!
