Our guide Rahman made this an amazing experience. His English is phenomenal and during the hike itself he was so incredibly patient. My wife is not a hiker but he was patient and never made her feel rushed or hurried. When it came to the blue fire, he let us make an informed decision depending on our comfort with the safety conditions and never pushed us either way. Do not get me started on Rahman’s photography skills because he is MAGIC. I mean quite literally, he said he worked in a photography studio before becoming a guide and it shows. We will be printing these pictures the moment we are home because that is how absolutely Phenomenal they are. It’s not just pictures either because the videos he took are top notch. Chefs kiss. If you want those instagram worthy shots, ask for Rahman. Now let’s get back to the hike. As the hike itself is steep over loose volcanic soil, everyone was slipping and sliding on the descent. Rahman came in and literally saved the day with cramp ons. We were the only ones descending like the pros (aka him). We literally had other hikers asking him if he had extra and they would pay him. I cannot say enough incredible things about Rahman and how HE definitely made the hike. We learned so much about the sulfur mining and the community in general. It was such a pleasurable experience and if you can, ask for Rahman. He is truly the MVP.

The trip has been amazing, with the essential support of Rahman as a guide. Despite the long way to arrive (2h from the meeting point to the top of the mountain by walk) the view and also the experience worths the effort. Even though the blue lava fire is not natural (at the moment) it still remains a unique experience (also including the sunrise from the top). It’s not required to be trained but for sure a lot of physical effort. In addition the guide (Rahman) has been really kind to support our group, taking care of all, during the trip and taking amazing photos.

Highly recommend!! Rahman was our tour guide and he was amazing. Everything was arranged for us - we got picked up from our hotel in Bali and dropped off at the ferry port where Rahman met us. The ride to and from Ijen was also already organised, as well as ferry back and the ride back to our Bali hotel. I never book tours online. I always book tours in person through the hotel/hostel so this was my first time booking through tripadvisor. this company made it so easy that I didn’t have to think. The Itinerary & Hike • Pickup & Transit: The journey started with a seamless transfer from Bali over to Java via ferry. • Homestay & Early Start: We stayed at a nearby homestay to rest up before the big night. Wakeup was at 00:00 midnight, followed by a 1-hour drive to the trailhead. • The Hike: The night trek is challenging but manageable. Reaching the top to witness the electric blue fire and a stunning sunrise over the crater was pure magic — well worth every step despite the large crowds. The decission to travel to Ijen with Dhani was literally the best decession of our entire trip. We left from pemuteran with our nice driver Arya and everything is taken care of. We met Dhani before the ferry and from that point he escorded us the entire way. He is the nicest guide we’ve met so far!

Mine Blue Flame Volcano Tour was an unforgettable adventure! Even though the blue flame was very small than I hoped that night, the experience was still magical — watching the first light of sunrise over the crater and feeling the energy of the volcano was something truly special. Mine guide, Hamid, was incredibly kind and knowledgeable, making sure that I felt safe and comfortable during the climb. He explained everything about the volcano, and the natural wonders of the area , the miners who work long hours in harsh conditions: smoke, toxic gases, steep terrain, and extreme heat .Miners carry heavy baskets of sulfur, often 50–90 kg per trip, down the crater to sell. A huge thank you as well to our drivers, Wasis and Adi, for being so friendly, patient, and professional — the long drive felt easy and enjoyable thanks to their good energy and smiles. Overall, it was a beautiful and memorable trip, full of warmth, care, and adventure — even if nature decided to keep her blue flames a bit shy that night. 💙

Hamid (my guide) and Nuril (the driver) were absolutely amazing—I honestly consider them friends now! I wasn’t sure what to expect, besides seeing the blue flames at Mt. Ijen, but this tour was so much more. We ate at local street vendors, and Hamid seemed to know everyone—he encouraged me to taste fresh fruits before buying and always made sure I got a fair price. Hamid shared so much about the culture, the miners, and the volcano, and truly went above and beyond in every way. The hike was tough at times, but he encouraged breaks, carried my backpack, had me hold his hand for balance down uneven surfaces, as well as taught me local phrases, and took so many beautiful photos along the way. I did the Ijen Tour with my three children (9-14 years). Because of the kids we decided to start early morning instead of during the night. We booked a tour to Mount Ijen. All was very well organized and goes smoothly. A driver picked up us at your hotel at Permutaran, then we met our guide Dani who took the ferry with us to Java and another driver was waiting for us to bring us to the start point of the hike. We had an incredible day with our guide Dani. He was a fantastic guide, very kind. He gave us many explanations on miners and sulfure. We just returned from an amazing trip with Ari (guide) and Fait (driver), traveling from Bali to Ijen, Tumpak Sewu, and Bromo. Arief ex miner & Max Driver were amazing! They were super friendly and tried their best to let us see the blue flames even though we didn't manage to see it :( but the experience was amazing Arief knew we were new and really helped to pace us and kept checking on us to make sure we're okay. We had an amazing trip to Mount Ijen! Everything was perfectly organised. We felt super safe with our drivers (Yudis and Orin). Dani was the best guide, he had the perfect timing for the crater tour, we ended up being the first people at the blue fire which was amazingggg, he’s super funny, nice and made us coffee on top of the mountain so we’re more than happy 🙏🏻 10/10 worth the money especially if you’re short on time!

We did the Mt.Ijen tour and had an excellent experience. The tour people were communicative regarding picking us up from where we were staying. Our guide up the mountain Arief the ex miner was very informative and friendly. Made good time up the mountain and into the crater without feeling rushed or unsafe and were able to see the blue fire. Arief also helped us avoid some of the crazy congestion (when that was possible) and made sure we all got some good photos in. We stopped by a coffee plantation and some rubber trees on the drive back to where we were staying which was also neat.

We had the best time on the overnight tour from Ubud to Ijen. Booking and organising was very easy via the website and on a WhatsApp chat, where Sofyan provided us with lots of information. Our lovely Bali driver Yudis picked us up at 7pm seamlessly from our hotel and took us to the ferry, where we met Hamid, our guide for the Volcano. After the ferry, Fendi drove us to the cafe where we convened before the hike. Hamid was great - very friendly and chatty and he really looked after us and made sure we had a great time. We saw the blue flame and sulphur and a stunning sunrise! Hamid took lots of pictures for us and knew all the best spots to take us. The journey back was very smooth too.

The on the view from the top of the crater and the sunrise was amazing. In general, the tour was very good organized and well prepared. Communication was easy via WhatsApp. Theo, our guide, was very kind and shared nice insights along the hike. One thing that you need to consider is the traffic on Bali which impacted the driving style of our driver.

We booked the 3D2N Tour to Ijen, Tumpak Sewu and Bromo and it was the best decision to do so! Our guide Ari and driver Gofry were the best guides we had on our whole Indonesia trip. We had an amazing 4 day trip and are so happy we booked this tour! Highlight for us was definitely the blue fire of mount Ijin and the turtle beach at sukamade where we saw turtles laying eggs as well as releasing baby turts on their first journey in the Ocean. We got picked up from Kuta Bali. Driver was amazing and on time very nice car. Our tour guide Hamid who came with us on the ferry to Java and back again was incredible, lovely Man. Would definitely recommend anyone to go with this company. Ended up being a private tour for just the two of us which we didn’t expect for same price as other group tours I had found. Blue Fire and views of Crater were insane.

I booked a private trip to Kawah Ijen pickup from Banyuwangi Kota. Sofyan was really nice and explain everything about the trip to me. For me the price is worth the experiences i gain from this trip. The driver Mr Hendri also very kind. Mr Ari my guide was very kind and friendly. He always made sure that I didnt left behind during the hiking process to Kawah Ijen. And most importantly he help me to take a lot of good photos. And he did not mind, me teaching him on how to take good photos. He always ask if I was okay, during the trip, and help me to prepare a place for me to perform subuh prayer at the top of the mount. I was really grateful for it. And i'm looking forward to go Mount Bromo with this trip again. I hope Mr Ari will be my guide too. 😁

We were staying in Ubud and we came across Mt Ijen with the “Blue Fire” so after doing some research we decided to book our private trip with Java Adventure. The booking was very easy and we had a confirmation from Sofyan straight away with all the info we need for our trip. We have to say we both enjoyed our trip today. Our driver Kadek came and collected us from our hotel in Ubud, he is very safe on the road and he looked after us when we got back from Java. Hamid our guide was wonderful, very knowledgeable and he made sure both my partner and I are ok on the trek. My other half didn’t go and see the blue fire but Hamid made sure he is safe while he took me down to the crater to see the blue fire. He really looked after me up and down those loose rocks and he is an amazing photographer too! Our driver Adi who transported us in Java is also wonderful, very polite and punctual. Can’t fault the company and their wonderful staff. But be warned that there are thousands of Chinese tourists and they all seems to push each other out the way to get to the blue fire and up and down the slippery rocks, they just don’t give way to anyone! Make sure you use a company like this or have a guide like Hamid who knows what he is doing to guide you through. As I am quite unfit it was a very hard trek for me but I did it without paying for the “taxi” to push me uphill to the top.

We did this tour from Banyuwangi. Very well organized trip and unforgettable experience! I would like to emphasize the amazing job done by our guide, Hamid. He was very friendly, shared a lot of knowledge and history of Ijen and also helped us to take great pictures! What’s most important, since there were a looooot of people on that day, nevertheless Hamid perfectly understood our goal - that we want to be first to start from park entrance and first to reach blue fire before all the crowds, and he made that happen! He also chose the best spot for viewing the sunrise later on without too many people as well. Despite massive crowds, he made the trip look like we were the only one there :) I would highly recommend choosing Hamid to be your guide :)

Amazing tour of the blue fire and crater at Mt Ijen. Kadek and Inggar were great drivers while Sigit was a patient and insightful guide who helped navigate the terrain and provide insights into Indonesian nature and culture.

To do this tour in the middle of the night can be challenging but the experience and the pictures are absolutely worth it! It was really much fun with the drivers Galih and Riski and especially with the guide Faruq. A very experienced guy who knows what he's doing and is just fun to be around with. I can definitely recommend!

A really great experience! The whole tour was super organized and we did not have to worry at any time. The tour guide Hamid is world class, he knows a lot, looks that you are the first at the blue fire so you do not have to share the view with hundreds and makes great photos at appropriate places! Transport to and from the volcano was super comfy and well air-conditioned. With Hamid's expert guidance, we began hiking just before 2am and we were amongst the first to see the blue fire at the crater of the volcano. Many missed out because they simply started the hike too late and the blue fire is only visible at night. We made it to the back to the top of the crater for a breathtaking sunrise. Hamid showed us the best photo spots and went the extra mile to get us great videos and pictures. We were provided with some delicious, hot coffee which the experience even more surreal. The hike to the crater, back up and down the hill were tough for one of our party, but Hamid really helped by holding their hand at difficult times. We will never forget this incredible experience and we're so grateful to Hamid and the team for making it as easy and seamless as it could be 🙏

Thanks for the tour. It was amazing. I fell in love with Ijen. We were on the injen at dawn and it was an exciting adventure. We also went to look at the blue fire and sulfur excavations. We really enjoyed the tour, especially because of our guide, he was very friendly and always answered our questions.

We did a tour to Ijen from Bali and it was a great experience, we highly recommend it. The booking process was seamless. The highlight of the tour was our guide Hamid! He knows every spot of the volcano as he used to work as a minor. He made our way up in the dark easier, showing us where to walk and where to stop for great views and photos. As a bonus, he takes really good photos too. We went down the crater and again we couldn’t have done without him as it is tricky going down. He literally held my hand many times to support me and I finished the tour without any falls :) Apart from the panoramic view of the lake, we saw the blue fire 🔥 and we also saw a beautiful sunrise in the best spot! Our drivers Agus and Wahyu were also great! Mount Ijen is a beautiful place! The only thing I would change if I was doing again is my shoes. I wore normal runners and I found them a bit slippery, especially on the way down. Wear proper hiking shoes if you can ;) or ask for Hamid as your guide and he will hold your hand and you won’t fall.

As a solo traveler, I felt very safe and everything was well organized. Hamid was a very caring and proactive guide, he was very patient as I was traveling with an injury. Hamid is not only a great guide but he also doubles as a tour photographer which comes in handy.

We have just returned from a trip to Mount Ijen where we were accompanied by our wonderful guide, Hamid, from the port to the hotel and then at 3am for the main event. He was knowledgable, passionate, patient and proud and also gave us a great insight being an ex sulphur miner too! A thoroughly enjoyable trip. A word for the hotel too which turned out to be way beyond what we were expecting.

Hotel pick up went smooth, as did the ferry ride to and from Java. Hamid, our guide, picked us up in Bali and rode the ferry with us. He was a kind man who has worked as a sulphur miner himself for a couple of years. He was able to give us amazing stories and insights into the harsh work conditions. Once at the trail, Hamid was very encouraging and kept an eye on us, making sure we didn't need a short break. At the base camp and the top of the volcano, it is quite cold so dress in layers and wear good shoes. Once hiking you'll get warm soon enough. Hamid knew exactly which spots provided the best view of the sunrise on the one side and the volcano and miners on the other. In short, it was an amazing, once in a lifetime experience and views, accompanied with the best possible guide.

We went on this trip starting from our hotel in Munduk, Bali. Our driver picked us up at 22:00 to go to the ferry in Gilimanuk Port. Here we met up with our guide Hamid. He took us on the ferry and allready gave us some explenation as to what we could expect and what it is like to live and work on the Kawa Ijen. Hamid was a sulfur miner himself for years, so we got a first hand account of what it is like. We then drove to the base of the Kawa Ijen and started our climb. It was about a 90 minute climb. Challenging but doable for two people who don't normally go hiking or running at home. Hamid guided us the whole way, gave us flashlights and had gasmasks with him in case needed. Hamid was a very experienced guide and probably the best we could get. A very nice, kind man who is caring and is eager to share his stories with you. Once at the top we witnessed the most beautifull sight we have ever seen. Seeing the sun rise on the top of the Kawa Ijen was breathtaking. Here we also got an explenation from Hamid on how the miners work and he took us to meet some of the miners who are still his friends. Overall, do not hesitate and book this experience. It's a once in a lifetime thing and you will treasure it forever. P.s. we slept in the cars going to the mountain so don't worry about having enough sleep, the climb is doable.

We choose the Ijen tour from Canggu. The communication was fluently, and the pick-up and ferry went smooth. Our drivers were so nice and waited the whole day for us. Thumbs up!
