Itinerary
Day 1
1
Your adventure starts in the morning with pick-up by car or minibus from South Bali: 5:45 AM from Seminyak or 7:30 AM from Indomaret Menwitani (also possible 7:00 AM from Ubud, from Munduk, Pemuteran, or Gilimanuk for Signature Option). For participants already in Java, pick-up is from Yogyakarta, Malang or Surabaya. After several hours of travel, you will cross the Bali Strait by ferry to reach Java. Soon after, a local-flavored lunch will be served – your first culinary discovery of the region. By late afternoon, you will arrive at the village of Cemoro Lawang Bromo, located at 2300 meters above sea level. A simple and clean guesthouse awaits you with a local dinner, ideal for resting and preparing for the night ascent of Bromo the next morning.
Day 2
2
After a 3:30 AM wake-up, you’ll take a 4x4 jeep to ascend Mount Bromo (active volcano, 2300 m). Begin hiking a narrow path and climb 250 steps to the summit. At the top, enjoy breathtaking views of the smoking crater at dawn—a magical moment. Watch the sunrise over Bromo, surrounded by Batok (extinct, 2400 m) and Semeru (active, 3677 m, Java’s highest volcano). After sunrise, cross the “Sea of Sand,” a vast volcanic ash plain. Then visit Seruni viewpoint for panoramic views of the Tengger massif. After breakfast, continue through villages and plantations toward Kawah Ijen, with local lunch en route. Stay at a guesthouse near the volcano, ending the day with a traditional Javanese dinner.
Day 3
3
Departure at 1:00 AM to base camp (1900 m). After safety briefing and gear (lamps, masks), hike 1.5 hours under stars to Kawah Ijen summit (2300 m). In darkness, descend the crater to see the unique blue flames. Guides, former miners, ensure your safety. At sunrise, admire the world’s largest acid lake and courageous sulfur workers. Return to base camp and guesthouse for homemade breakfast and shower. Ferry back to Bali with drop-offs in Pemuteran, Munduk, Mengwi, Ubud, or Seminyak (Signature option). Mengwi or Seminyak (Essential Option)

Was an overall great way to explore and adventure java in a tour package. The bromo tour felt special as their route was a more quiet and beautiful way to see the volcano without having the stress of overcrowding and business. The waterfall addition on the same day was a great surprise, checking out an amazing waterfall that most tourist would miss when they come to Java. Big appreciation to the whole Indotravel team and especially owner for their hospitality, great communication and service. We totally recommend to book this tour and or book this company for any adventures!!
Amazing experience in the heart of the volcanoes! 🌋 The traditional food was absolutely delicious, and the people were incredibly kind and welcoming. Such a beautiful and authentic experience ! highly recommend!
Amazing food Amazing people Amazing everything
It was a wonderful tour, very well organised. I myself preferred to take a plane from Bali instead of the long riding. Though it's an intense and tiring experience, it's really worth It. The Bromo volcano was increíble. Also the Ijen and the trekking. The first hotel is a clean house in the mountain, good food was provided. The second place where we stayed was a amazing small hotel near a rice field. The owner Petra provided lots of information. The food was incredible. Thanks to all the drivers and guides, they were so nice.
Amazing trip! Well organised, good communication before leaving. It’s a BIG journey, so be prepared for a lot of time in the van, but worth it if you’ve only got a short time. Bromo hike was the highlight and I loved that we did it the opposite way of most tours so had the place to ourselves at time (sunrise on the rim, the viewpoint after) The accommodation for Ijen was outstanding, food just kept coming, and the guides were energetic and prioritised our safety. Highly recommend!!
This 3 day trip was legendary! Everyone involved to make it happen deserves kudos; From the driver that picked us up from the hotel and took us to Bromo, the tour guide, the two guides in Bromo and Ijen and even the stuff and the 2 hotels we stayed in. This is a very serious effort done by the people who run these trips to make everything easy and automatic for the clueless tourist who wants to visit these magical places. You don't need much really, anything you miss or forget they will immediately take care of for you (clothes, bags, equipment etc). Everyone involved is a true professional, always at your disposal to make the trip easy and enjoyable. The accomodations were great, the food delicious and there are not enough words to describe the experience in the two places we went to. I can't recommend this trip enough, no need to look anywhere else if you want to visit Bromo/Ijen. Special kudos to Harry, the guide we had for the Ijen climb. He was a true legend, made everything easy for us and went the extra mile to make sure we get all the photos/footage we needed!
Great three days tour from Bali if you want to see Ijen and Bromo.Good communication from the agency before and during the trip.I was accompanied by Sahal for 3 days who very knowledgeable, kind and pleasant to be with .The rest of the team, driver and guides for each volcanos were super professional and nice. Recommended.
Amazing experience and great staff to facilitate it. Lots of driving, but worth it to see these natural wonders.
A superb experience at Bromo/Ijen! Memories that will last forever! Thanks again to our guides and drivers, so attentive and full of stories! Thank you again! The sunrise was amazing, one of the best memories I had so far !
We had an incredible experience with Pierrick and his team. Everything is organized in a smart way to avoid other tourists when possible (Bromo). All the guides were very professional but also very kind especially with the kids. The hotel at Ijen is simple but comfortable and well decorated and the food, all local, amazing!
We had the best time with the Indo Travel Team. The guides were amazing and answered all of our questions at the briefing and during the hikes themselves used their extensive experience to keep us safe and select the best routes to use, which was especially helpful at Mount Ijen where it was so busy. Meeting the owner of Indo Travel Team, Pierrick, was such an honour and it was great to hear about his background as a volcanologist and this history of the company. There were so many things on the tour that made this incredibly special: the volcanoes, the care, trying local cuisines and meeting so many wonderful people.
Amazing experience with Indotravelteam. Starting the activity climbing up Bromo volcano being able to see the fire by night and an amazing sunrise is awesome. On the second day, Kawah Ijen was good also, seeing the blue fire and the acid lagoon after an amazing hiking will be unforgettable. Apart from that, Pierrick’s team makes you feel part of the family. Many thanks to Eppy, Vano and Harry and the whole team of the base camp!
Amazing experience and amazing staff. Definitely a must when in Indonesia. Despite the caos of the island, the experience is well organized thanks to a widely experience team.
Our guide Sahal and driver Didi were excellent! While the weather for Bromo was not very good, we made the most of it and got to see some of the volcanoes. And for Ijen - whatever you're paying Hary, make sure to pay him double! The entire Ijen tour was successful because of him.
We loved the whole trip and everything about it. The tour on Bromo and Ijen were both very impressive. And it was a positive surprise, that the tour on Bromo was done the opposite way to everyone else, so we had all great spots nearly on our own. Everyone involved contributed to this great experience, especially we want to mention and thank Eppy, our driver, guide and companion, who made the long drives very pleasant, so we were even sad, when we had to leave the car in the end. Also The Bromo guide Ossa was great, sharing his great passion for vulcanos with us. I could mention alot of more positive persons and details….
Absolutely FANTASTIC experience! I came to Indonesia to specifically see Mt. Bromo and they did a wonderful job from start to finish. It is fair way to get there but the company is extremely organized, on time, super friendly, and the accommodations from food to hotels to the guides were all wonderful. I can’t recommend this excursion enough!
We did a 3 days / 2 nights trek (Bromo + Ijen) and it was absolutely amazing, probably one of our our best experiences in Indonesia. Pierrick and his team are very welcoming and kind. Our guides were really helpful and reassuring with us during the climb. The food was delicious, rooms were clean and confortable We were traveling from Yogyakarta to Bali and it was the best option to discover those volcano, and permit our transfer there We really recommend this experience :)
This trip was top notch. Picked up from Bali and transfered to bromo. Night one completed Bromo with a guide and was amazing to see without a huge crowd (they do reverse order to most companies which makes it a lot less busy). We then went to the viewpoint to see bromo once the sun was up! After this we did Ijen, again guides were perfect. Amazing experience to see the blue flames! The accommodation and food is perfect. You get plenty of food during your trip!
Such an incredible experience traveling with the indotravel team. All of their workers were amazing, from the drivers to the guides to the hostel hosts and the owner as well. They answered all of our questions and helped us all along the way. Sahal was our personal guide throughout the journey and he was super helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. We had great conversations and you can tell he really cares a lot about the guests and their experiences. From climbing the rim of Mt Bromo for sunrise and also the incredible viewpoint to hiking up and down the crater of the Ijen volcano, the 3 days were full of incredible experiences and memories I will never forget. While it was a long 3 day journey from Bali with long rides in the van, I could not imagine trying to do this on my own. With the professionalism of the Indotravel team added on top of the convenience of just having to hop in the van and go, I would recommend this tour to anyone looking to explore and be a little adventurous. The hostel accommodations were fine, nothing super fancy but that is to be expected when you are having an immersive experience. Thank you again to the indotravel team for a lifetime of memories and friends made along the way.
Fantastic trip from Bali to Bromo So well organised and the treck at Bromo was marvelous Rustic and close to the locals The guide on the volcano was very helpful to understand Thanks nlot
This tour was truly a once in a lifetime experience. My partner and I had and amazing time at both Bromo and Ijen. Everything was so well planned, from the meeting place all the way to drop off. Our driver Epi was so patient with us and made a great effort to ensure everyone was well cared for. Someone in our group needed a SIM card for their phone and he tried to stop at every possible shop on route to help her. He is also a very skilled driver, we felt very safe with him. Our stay in Bromo was great! The town had a great vibe and we were very well fed. Os who took us up to bromo was such a lovely guide! He was incredibly kind and knowledgable. He made sure we had plenty of breaks on the steep walk up the mountain. I honestly did not feel hungry this entire trip. We were so well fed and we really enjoyed every meal provided to us. Our ijen stay was beautiful, the staff were all so kind and welcoming. Thank you Petra for being such a beautiful host to us we felt very welcomed. Our group had a lot of questions about ijen and you really put our minds at ease. The ijen hike was quite physically straining for me but the equipment and gas mask provided to us was great quality and very useful. Our guide Harry was so patient with us (even though my partner and I walked very slowly). We never felt rushed or unsafe at any point of the hike. Harry was so humble, he knew all of the amazing photo spots and took some incredible pictures for us. Harry even held our hands to help us navigate the steep rocky areas. We want to thank the indotravel team for creating such a beautiful memory for us. Something we will remember for our lifetime. :)
I enjoyed the 3-Day bromo trip, guide Sahal the guide was especially great. Go on this adventure, you won't regret it! Getting up early to see sunrise over the Bromo volcano in particular was epic and unforgettable
Very well organized tour with lovely local guides, hosts and drivers that made the whole experience convenient and fun. Wet season didn't dampen the views or experience - I felt very lucky. One of the highlights of my solo trip to Indonesia. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Mt Bromo and Ijen for the first time!
Loved our 2night trip to Bromo and Ijen. Me met the loveliest local people, our amazing driver Resa, our bromo guide Fano and our Ijen guide Harry, they all taught us so much about Indonesian culture and helped everything run so smoothly. Alex and Petra were also amazing, our stays at both good karma home stays were perfect, the accommodation and food at ijen especially was very special. Thank you so much for a great experience!
Could not fault a single part of this trip. It was faultless from start to finish. From our driver Resa to our wonderful guides Fano and Harry, we could not have gotten any luckier on this trip. Bromo was simply magical seeing the red fire in such a private setting without any other people around. Fano is incredible at his job at such a young age! Ijen was something I’ll never forget. Harry was so informative and helpful throughout. Petra and Alex were also amazing. The home stays in both Bromo and Ijen are perfect! I’d love to go all over again
The whole trip was extremely well organised and the team to took every care to ensure that we had a great time. The hospitality and food planned and organised by Petra for the Ijen part of the journey was much more than what I expected. Thanks for a wonderful time.
First time in Indonesia and this tour exceeded expectations. It was organized professionally and superably. Much thanks to the tour guides. They’re from the regions we visited so had strong personal bonds to the place. Thank you Sahal, Reza, Fano, Hari, Pur, Nunung! They Enhanced the experience of exploring the two nature’s wonders with their kindness and patience.
The guides are excellent. The experience is really unforgettable. Both Bromo and Ijen offer a different experience. The organisation is very good as well and I wish thel further luck in what they are doing!
We are really disappointed with how we were misled during this trip. We chose this trip because it was including both Ijen and Bromo. Unfortunately ljen was closed and there was no possibility to enter. However throughout the whole trip the team was giving us hope saying that they are waiting for information that ljen is open and we can enter - but the information never came. We love Indonesian food and eat on street markets, so we are not picky - but the food during the trip was TRULY TERRIBLE. Worst we had in Indonesia. For the amount of money we paid per person we were REALLY disappointed. We basically sat 3 days in the car and paid 400 euros for it. If they have been transparent with us from the beginning with the ljen situation we would not have gone for this trip and cancelled in advance, but then of course they would not make the money so it was convenient for them to keep us in the dark and give us hope until las minutes. Don't repeat our mistake - stay away from Indotravel.
We had the best time on this tour! The homestays were comfortable, the food choices were good, and the tour locations were incredible. Every guide was incredibly knowledgeable, very helpful and overall, very personable. We'd also like to commend driver Rudi, he was incredibly attentive throughout our journey- we felt very safe driven by him for the 4 days. He's a lovely person, very easy to get along with and always willing to help. Overall, this was a beautifully curated experience and a once-in-a-lifetime experience for us.
What a wonderful trip! - The team offers very convenient pick-up and drop-off locations. - The guides are super friendly and accommodating - I learned much about Indonesian culture on the trip - Mt Bromo at sunrise was an absolutely beautiful and unforgettable experience, and the guides also took photos for us Definitely recommend this trip to anyone looking to experience these natural beauties of Indonesia.
Don't expect luxurious settings (even hot water everywhere you sleep), be ready for a lot of driving and harduous hiking, but eventually you see Bromo and Ijen, both spectacular places to experience. They do Bromo the opposite way of the crowd, which allows less business on the trail, brilliant. For Ijen there is no other way, it is steep and crowded, so avoid the weekend.
I have been on this tour with my friend and we had such an amazing time! Moments and views for a lifetime! Our tour guide and all other people involved in our trip where super nice & friendly. The accommodations where simple but much better than some of the hostels we‘ve stayed in. The food was super delicious. Many thanks for this amazing trip! Highly recommended! :)
Indotravelteam is an excellent organisation. They really take care of you and are very friendly. The trip is long, but the views are worth it. We never felt unsecure thanks to the experienced guides. Also the food was good. The stays are more basic but you’re only there to sleep.
Really amazing travel, organisation and team. I toke the 3 days in Jawa to do Bromo and Ijen and I really really love it. What dream. I recommand it.
Everything was well-planned and organised from start to end. Our guide, Fany and the driver took good care of us. At Bromo and Ijen, the guides, Harry and team were great as well. Had an awesome experience! Accommodation on first night at Bromo was okay, albeit a little stinky. Second night was great and I managed to get some proper rest. Overall, the experience was great and I do not have any regrets signing up with IndoTravel Team. Once in a life-time experience! Pierrick also maintained constant communication through email from the day I applied on their website to flying into Indonesia. Please forgive me if I misspelled the names 😅
The trip was amazing. It's the highlight of my stay on Java Island. The team is very friendly and listens to our needs. I did the 4 days trip : waterfalls and Volcanoes. Everything was very well organized! Thank you 👍🏼
The tour was perfectly organised. The small groupe made it even more special and private. The driver and guides are just great. All the is very safe. The experience was amazing and unforgettable! Thanks to the travelindoteam
The trip was perfectly planned. The guides & transport were excellent, they took care of all our needs & questions. Very supportive and helpful! Couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I would highly recommend this tour!
It was a great well-organized tour. We enjoyed it a lot. Our guide Fani was very supportive and helpful. Everything was on time and we saw a lot of amazing places. Food in the tour was also perfect. Also they provide all necessary clothes and equipment on the trek, so you feel comfortable and safe.Thank you for incredible memories!
My wife and I booked this trip for Thanksgiving 2023. We were both extremely pleased with every aspect. There are a lot of different booking options available out there, but at the end of the day we were fortunate to stumble upon Indo Travel Team. I'm very glad we went with them, and I can't imagine a better planned, guided, or adventurous trip. COMPANY: We chose Indo Travel Team after searching for packages because they were reasonably priced and other travel bloggers referred them. We've traditionally looked on Klook, but we've learned that those can be a crapshoot and you never know what you're going to get. They did a fantastic job with this package. Pierrick was extremely responsive and leading up to our trip replied to my emails very quickly and always on the same day. Once we were picked up, we didn't have to do much thinking at all because everything was so well planned out. We were also pretty nervous since this was our first trip to Indonesia, but everyone we interacted with was extremely professional and courteous. Even those who weren't part of Indo Travel Team. LODGING: You'll stay at 2 hotels during this trip, both of which have WiFi. The first, at Mt. Bromo, is on the edge of the caldera and the scenery is gorgeous. This hotel is at high altitude (2,000+m) so it can get chilly, but the rooms are warm and comfortable. They make it clear that this package is for adventurers, so this hotel is not a resort. But we hiked Mt. Fuji last year and we slept on the floor of a shared hut with 40+ strangers, so having our own room on Mt. Bromo was great. The next lodging, for Kawah Ijen, was a traditional western style hotel. It was much hotter at the second location, but the hotel had WiFi and A/C, so it was very comfortable. You'll only be at each hotel for a short while anyway, so we were surprised at how comfortable they were. FOOD: You'll be given so much food over these few days. We never even touched the snacks we packed. You'll be provided dinner the night before Mt. Bromo, coffee/snacks while hiking Bromo, breakfast after Bromo, lunch en route to Kawah Ijen, dinner before Kawah Ijen, and then a huge breakfast after hiking Kawah Ijen. We never really had a chance to get hungry before we were served the next meal. Everything was absolutely delicious, and you can tell the guides put a lot of thought and effort into each meal. TRAVEL: We flew into Surabaya to save on travel time and were driven to Mt. Bromo. This was about 2.5 hours, versus 8+ hours from Bali. Our driver, Faiza(?) was great and told us all about the countryside and mountains, and answered many of our random questions. After Mt. Bromo you'll be taken to Kawah Ijen, which can take several hours. This is a trek for adventurers after all. You'll stop for lunch on the way and the driver can stop for any needed break, so we had plenty of time to stretch our legs. After Kawah Ijen you'll be taken to Bali and traffic in Bali dictates this travel time. We took another 6-7 hours. This may be a lot of riding in a minibus, but the scenery really is gorgeous. I never knew just how many volcanoes Indonesia has and you'll see dozens along the way. You'll turn a corner and see a towering, 10,000' behemoth belching smoke. It's really stunning. HIKING: Hiking Mt. Bromo was the easier of the two. You'll shove off around 3am and visit two locations; Mt. Bromo's rim and King Kong Hill. each hike takes about 30 minutes each? Give or take 10-15 minutes. Kawah Ijen is definitely more challenging, but I wouldn't call it challenging. You'll leave the hotel very early, around 1am, and then begin the hike at ~2:30am. You'll have to crest the rim and descend into the crater, so this hike takes longer, about 1h30m. We were extremely lucky and the blue flame was quite large, but there was also a lot of smoke. The gas masks realllly helped. The guides know all the best photo spots and will take plenty of photos along the way too. LUGGAGE: I couldn't find definitive information about storing luggage when I was searching, so I want to include it here for others. We had luggage with us the entire trip and we never felt like it was unsecure. At Mt. Bromo it stays in your locked hotel room while hiking. However, you will take it with you when hiking Kawah Ijen since you won't return to the hotel. Your luggage stays with the driver in the minibus and we had no issues whatsoever and felt comfortable the whole time.
Amazing trips to Bromo and Kawah Ijen. The organisation or everything (trips/hotels/lunchs) was perfect, everything is excellently rounded. Thanks to all my guides from Bromo and Ijen. Also thank you to my drivers Aly and the other one from Bali. All of them were so friendly, kind, and professional, i couldn’t expect a better experience than that. Merci beaucoup IndoTravelTeam.
Loved how amazing our guide Fani was. She was warm, welcoming and fun! Will definitely hire Indo Travel Team again for my next tour in Indonesia.
Amazing and well organized tour! The team communicated the next steps of the tour well and kept us well fed throughout the trip. I was worried about being extremely tired from the long drive but we took breaks every 2 hours so that helped a lot. The best part is this tour goes to Mt. Bromo first instead of the King Kong viewpoint. So we got to be the only ones on the volcano for sunset! (All other tours do it the other way around)
We were looking forward to this highlight of our Indonesia trip seeing an active volcano and the blue flames, but we turned out to be the worst spent days of the whole trip. Travel time: The travel time listed on the trip can never be the exact time. Even without any traffic it took as minimum 1.5x of the written time. But due to a national holiday & school holiday travel time went up from 8 hours to 19 hours on the first day and on the second and third from 4 hours to 9 hours each. We expected a heads up information about such specialty, but instead we got no information and even worst we were told by the boss he didn't know. Driver and tour guides told us different. Weather: Same for the weather situation. It was raining for 2 weeks straight. Boss told us he didn't know, but all other people told us different. Tour guides: At the Bromo Tour we had one tour guide with us. Due to rain, the ways being slippery and the darkness one girl of the group was too afraid to go further. The tour guide left her alone on top of the volcano without even talking to her. At Ijen the rain started to be even heavier which made the hike up very dangerous (said by the local tour guide). And even if we went up, we started the tour too late to see the blue flames or a sunrise. Btw it was days before we started the tour that the highlight (blue flames) cannot be seen due to the rain and the late hike up, which nobody told us either. Food and accommodation: Food is very very basic, meaning you get the cheapest fried rice and noodles. There was rather no fresh food and for breakfast we got eggs and a toast. The advertised local food was just the cheapest food to get in Indonesia (even in our jungle tour we had better food). Accommodations are also the cheapest of all. We looked it up and the ones we stayed in costed 10EUR per 2person room per night. The question arise where all the money we paid for the trip was spent on. Operator: Of course for weather conditions and traffic the tour operator is not to blame, nevertheless we expected a more active communication approach before the tour or at least a cooperative and honest during the trip. He could not understand our frustration and blamed us because we did not hike up Ijen. Once he told us everything is safe, the next sentence he talked about all the dangerous things that could happen. At the one hand he didn't know about traffic, weather, etc., next moment the tells us we can be happy because the tours the days/weeks before took even longer than us. We felt really uncomfortable during the trip and where just happy to be back in Bali. Even after two months now looking back to the trip I am disappointed how the operator only looked on the profit he could make and not on the guests he es accommodating (or at least he is giving that feeling to myself and the rest of our tour). I expected different after reading all the good comments here.
A truly wonderful experience. Everyone was extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful, especially our guides and driver Eppi. A must do if you are visiting Bali!
Warning: make sure you confirm the itinerary with your guide at Bromo because they take you to the crater for sunrise instead of the viewpoint! They do this to avoid crowds but I personally think the viewpoint is much more interesting during sunrise and argued with the guide for some time before they accepted to take us to the viewpoint for sunrise. In the Viator itinerary it also says viewpoint for sunrise but they don’t actually follow it. Bromo and Ijen are jaw dropping and must be seen. This tour is also good value for what you get but I personally didn’t like the hotels because they were near the road and too loud, so I’d recommend booking a different tour and paying more for better rooms. This tour is still great though!
Unbelievable! Definitely exceeded my expectations! We had an amazing experience! The trip was well organised and everything was prepared, we literally didn’t care about anything, even worm clothes! It was a pleasure to spent this 3 days with professionals! Special THANK YOU! To Alex and Oppy! U made our trip unforgettable!
Fani and her team were nothing short of perfect. A lot of planning goes into this trip and Fani told me that Pierrick and the local guides went to great lengths to ensure that the driver, food, accommodation and the volcano tour guides all worked seamlessly. We started our journey in Ubud as the first couple in the minivan and along the way picked up other travellers until we all got to Bromo. Along the way we stopped and had some of the most delicious locally cooked food you could imagine. Forget the surroundings, heat, flies, (and toilet facilities 🫣). The food is simple but tastes divine. During our very long trip (around 10-11 hours with breaks) Fani gave us some excellent information about the areas we passed through, the customs and celebrations, the culture and respect of the different religions all living in harmony, the lifestyles of the Javanese and Balinese and her own beliefs. As me and my partner were by ourselves during this early part of the tour it was wonderful to listen to Fani as she told us about her early childhood and how it’s shaped her into doing what she enjoys and her own connection with Bromo. We both love hearing about other cultures and any opportunity we have to learn both culture and language goes a long way in understanding our own. The first stop in accommodation at the base of Bromo was a little bit unexpected. I expected a pretty rundown room with all manner of problems. I also expected noise. It had neither. The shower was hot, the toilet was not a hole in the ground (see earlier) and the room although basic was clean. There was no noise. It was peaceful and I slept as well as could be expected on the eve of a volcano tour. Dinner at a local restaurant was delicious, chicken and vegetables with rice. The early start up Bromo was not difficult although I did get a chance to ride a small horse for the first time in my life, part of the way. The views at the edge of Mount Bromo are nothing short of spectacular. Fani explained that going at this time allows us to witness the sunrise, something that many tourists do not or are unwilling to do. Trust me, get up early and witness this! It’s a photographers dream and anyone with a mobile phone is a photographer!! Our next stop was to the Kawah-Ijen region. The accommodation here was upgraded from the original itinerary, a very nice surprise as this was the type you’d happily pay good money for. The climb up Kawah-Ijen is far more arduous but no less spectacular. There were a lot of people this time as a warning was in place due to the volatility of the volcano earlier on. For this reason we did not see the blue fire. However, the acid lake is something to behold, as one other reviewer stated, it’s like being on a different planet. Hary the local volcano guide and his team were amazing, helping both myself and my partner up the steep paths which also included (at very little cost) a ‘taxi’ all the way to the top. There are picture opportunities abound if you’re prepared to wait a little. The journey down is much easier. After a few hours, which included breakfast, dinner and some more of Fani’s extensive knowledge of Java and Bali our tour ended. These are memories that will stay with us forever. My partner was apprehensive but Fani and her team, including a very commanding Hary who was determined to guide my partner up a particular difficult part of the path, made us both feel comfortable throughout. We could not have asked for a more engaging guide in Fani and a more well planned and organised and exhilarating tour. Thank you.
