Tapa Bale Gede

Bagus and his team made our stay exceptionally pleasant. We enjoyed our breakfast each day. Our room was rustic and comfortable. The bathroom was open to the fresh air at 2 ends, so we were wary of mosquitoes but only a couple were spotted during our week stay. I understand this open bathroom is common on the island. We rested easily under a good mosquito net in case any got through. The pool was a great temperature and loungers very comfortable. The whole complex was constantly being swept and cleaned. We had no trouble with mosquitoes in the restaurant (which we did at a few other places). The wifi was strong enough to watch sport on our computer (World Cup Football and rugby tests) and our room had lots of storage. We never ran out of hot water in the shower. The location was great with an easy walk to Mushroom Bay, Sunset Beach and Dream Beach along with Devil’s Tear. There are a number of good cafes, restaurants and shops as you walk around the area. There are also a couple of convenience stores very close which we found handy, along with a pharmacy. We frequented the spa twice and we were very happy with our massages. We would choose to stay here again.

My stay at Bale Gede was incredible. Amazing location with attentive and polite staff. Bagus gave us tips and recommendations on where to visit and help organise anything we needed :) Will book again.

Unfortunately, we did not enjoy our stay here and would not choose to return. The staff were always friendly, polite and helpful, which was definitely the best part of our experience. However, the accommodation itself did not meet our expectations. Cleanliness was a major issue. Daily housekeeping felt very rushed and the overall standard of cleanliness was not what we expected. The towels, both beach and bath towels, were extremely worn out, rough and clearly overdue for replacement. The rooms and bathrooms also showed significant signs of wear and poor maintenance. There was a considerable build-up of limescale in the bathroom, and overall the facilities did not feel particularly well maintained. Another downside was the noise. We could hear a lot of noise from outside, making it difficult to fully relax and rest. The food was also quite disappointing and unfortunately did not stand out in any way. While we appreciate the kindness of the staff, the condition of the accommodation, cleanliness standards, food quality and overall comfort mean that we would not stay here again.

do not come here! upon arrival, our booking for 3 nights got cancelled and when we tried to re book, they tried charging us extra so we only ended up booking for one night. when we got into the room, it was filled with mosquitos and other bugs (hence the bug nets all around the bed). the doors had to be slammed shut and there was gaps underneath the door frames and in the walls to let bugs in. the tv didn’t even work it was just static, the aircon barley worked even on super chill and the room got so hot that my husband ended up vomiting due to heatstroke. the hotel is extremely misleading and claims to have soundproof walls but ended up supplying us with earplugs to drown out the noise of dogs, roosters and the oncoming traffic outside the hotel room. the lights in the room were very dim and were falling out of the roof and all the door handles and lights were covered in some type of oil. our bed was full of hair and bed bugs, making it extremely hard to sleep. the bathroom had no fan and was open at the roof, but even then there was poor ventilation. we had to barricade the bathroom and sliding door with towels to ensure that no bugs could get in. the floors and room was also very dusty. when we left, the safe was broken and we couldn’t even get our passports to leave but when we ended up asking staff for help, they were just on their phones in the lobby and the guy who helped us kept burping which is extremely unprofessional. there was also only one pool that was surrounded by mosquitos and had a lot of debris floating around. we should’ve taken the hint when we realised that no one was there and looking back at it, we know why. i honestly do not recommend coming here as it’s crazily overpriced for what you pay for and the hotel is misleading. you do NOT get your moneys worth.
