Disappointing first impression, despite many lovely staff members We were really looking forward to staying at AYANA, especially because we are planning to experience all four AYANA properties during our trip and compare them for ourselves. Unfortunately, our first impression was not a good one. At the entrance, there is a small reception desk where guests are asked to show their reservation details before entering the main lobby. The woman working there had a very unpleasant attitude toward us. We had just arrived in Bali from a very cold country, wearing hiking shoes and simple T-shirts, carrying two large backpacks. My husband and I are both very outdoorsy people, so we were dressed casually and practically. She could not initially find our reservation in the system, even though we showed her our booking confirmation. She then asked, “Are you sure you booked this hotel?” Throughout the interaction, she never smiled or even made eye contact with me. Eventually, she found our reservation and loudly told my husband to follow the porter into the lobby for check-in. I was left standing there, unsure whether I was supposed to follow him or whether this was simply part of the hotel’s procedure. My husband eventually told me to come with him, and the staff member also told me to follow. I understand that there may be a specific security or check-in procedure at the entrance, but the way it was handled made me feel quite uncomfortable and disrespected. If this is indeed hotel policy, I think it could be communicated in a much warmer and more welcoming way. What is interesting is that the experience with almost every other staff member afterward was completely different. The porter and the other hotel staff we encountered were kind, friendly and helpful. So the contrast was very noticeable. There were also several small details in the room that were disappointing. The slippers broke after only a few uses, and the soundproofing in the room was not particularly good. The welcome fruit was also quite underwhelming: we were given just three very sour green mandarins. Of course, this is a very small thing and not something that would normally affect our overall stay, but at a luxury resort, these little details contribute to how generous and thoughtful the experience feels. Instead, this particular welcome arrangement gave us the impression that the hotel was being unnecessarily stingy with the small touches. It is not really about the value of three pieces of fruit—it is about the feeling and attention to detail behind the gesture. We are staying at RIMBA tomorrow and plan to experience the other AYANA properties as well, so we will see how the experiences compare. AYANA is clearly a beautiful property, and we can see the effort that goes into creating a luxury resort experience. However, for a hotel of this level, I believe the small details matter a lot—including the very first interaction a guest has when arriving, as well as the little touches inside the room. Hopefully, management will take this feedback constructively. Most of the staff we met were wonderful, but unfortunately, the experience at the entrance and some of these small details left a stronger negative impression than we expected from a luxury resort of this reputation. We LOVED our stay at AYANA Resort! The resort is absolutely stunning. It’s the definition of a tropical paradise. Every corner is immaculate and beautifully designed. I still can’t get over the beautiful bougainvillea and the incredible gardens! I already know this is a place I’ll come back to again and again. Our room was perfect, and the traditional Balinese woodwork was absolutely beautiful. The service was exceptional from check-in to housekeeping, and everyone made our stay feel so special. The Rock bar was a great experience too, the food and the cocktails were delicious. I genuinely can’t wait to come back. Thank you AYANA, for such a fabulous and memorable stay! :)
Right from the welcome with frangipani garlands right upto check in by the ever smiling Meri. She was so gracious and helped us with the app even did our booking for the rock bar. The other sweet receptionist was Iin. Very very helpful. Including the duty managers. The room was sea facing and we enjoyed the sunset. The restaurants were many but all had welcoming staff. Great service. Keep it up. Excellent. Will surely be back again.
This was my first time visiting Bali, and I’m so happy to have created such wonderful memories here. We came to Ayana to celebrate my girlfriend’s birthday, and the experience was truly amazing. All the staff were incredibly warm and friendly—they always greeted her with a smile and wished her a happy birthday. What surprised us the most was when we returned to our room and found a birthday cake prepared on the table. We were honestly speechless. It’s the first time we’ve experienced such thoughtful hospitality, and we were deeply touched. Thank you to every staff member at Ayana for giving us such a fantastic experience and an unforgettable birthday celebration. We truly look forward to staying at Ayana again in the future.
I’m in Phuket right now and someone asked me where was the best hotel you have ever been so it just reminded me of my stay in Ayana in May 2025, because I’ve been to many 5* hotels and resorts before and after staying Ayana, but neither have ever been to the same level of Ayana. To be completely honest there were few issues with our room and couple of other things went wrong during our stay but nothing could change my mind about this resort. First off, I always wanted to visit Bally, but as someone who literally has a phobia of insects I, Ayana was a heaven for me. I don’t know how magically they keep this place completely insect free! And as someone with OCD I can assure you this place is the cleanest hotel you can find in Bally if not in the whole world, and I promise I’m not just saying this !😅 The rock bar is out of this world and to be honest the only issue with this resort is that it’s so complete that you don’t even want to leave it! Best restaurants, best food, multiple options of pools (some more clean and refurbished than others) but still some unrealistically beautiful one, the private beach is out of this world and an important point for me, the ice was filtered and drinkable 😅 But I have to give a 100/10 credit to the staff!! Honestly they all deserve a pay raise. I can’t even describe how extremely hostile they were! The customer service is unlike anything I have ever seen in any place, anything that went wrong they were there to fix it within minutes. They were kind, polite, extremely well trained, great English speakers and much more than just staffs, they made my 30th birthday so special that I will always cherish it! 100% recommend it! Would love to receive an invite back to this heaven some day 😍
