Hobbiton Movie Set & Waitomo Caves Small Group Tour From Auckland

I flew in from the U.S. to visit Hobbiton. The glow worm experience was an added plus for the trip. Our tour guide, Adil, was amazing. He was super knowledgeable about the history of New Zealand and the two tours we did. He gave us little tips on when and where to go to get the best experience out of our tours. He also allowed us the latitude to decide when we’d get a lunch break for our 12 hr experience in addition to providing us a snack for the ride back. This trip packet was reasonably priced and Adil Did all the legwork to secure our tickets for entry. The size of our group was cozy enough to feel like we were getting a curated special experience.

This is a must! The Waitomo is an amazing experience with a very enthusiastic guide. The boat ride in the dark cave seeing the lights of thousands of glowworms suspended from the cave ceiling. No camera or video is allowed. That magical moment gliding through the cave lingering in our memories. Then we head to the Hobbiton Movie Set with another guided tour and concluded the tour with a complimentary drink of beer, alcoholic apple cider and nonalcoholic drink. The walking is easy and well organized tour. Took a lot of photos!

The experience was amazing !! The driver was very knowledgeable about the areas we were passing by in our way to hobbiton and back. The whole experience was very smooth and it was a very friendly atmosphere. The attractions were all I was hoping for, the WAITOMO caves were a unique experience, something you can’t miss.

From the magical scenery of Hobbiton to the spectacular glowworms illuminating the caves, this was a day filled with memories we will treasure!

Got to Hobbiton early and beat most of the crowds. Our guide went out of his way to point out the sights, explain the history on the way and make sure we got the most out of our experience while on the Hobbiton tour. The glow worm caves were magical, and definitely worth including as well.

We had a great time on the Hobbiton and Waitomo Glow Worm Cave tour, my friend and I took the tour with Adil as our guide. He did a fantastic job making the drives to each tour entertaining with stories about New Zealand history, as well as descriptions of points of interest we were passing by. He was exactly what I was hoping for as a guide, and shared tips for how to best enjoy each tour. We had a great time, I highly recommend the tour, especially with Adil!

We had a wonderful day with Clint. He was very knowledgeable about the tour and surrounding area. The visit to Hobbiton village was magical, just amazing! The glow worms at Waitomo caves were spectacular, never seen that before. A fair amount of driving was involved but it was nice to see so much of the countryside.

This was truly the perfect New Zealand day. Warren was an absolutely fantastic tour guide. He picked us up bright and early, full of energy and enthusiasm from the very start. His genuine passion for New Zealand, its fascinating history, culture, and incredible natural wonders was infectious and made the entire day so much more memorable. Hobbiton was an absolute treat — truly magical and such a special experience, especially for us LOTR nerds — and the Waitomo Caves were simply breathtaking. Fantastic experience overall. Highly, highly recommend!

If you love LOTR or anything to do with Hobbits- this tour was amazing. The tour guides were very knowledgeable and friendly, the drive up was beautiful and our driver Dave was amazing and kept us entertained plus was about to speak to the group with history and cool facts/history of New Zealand. I would definitely recommend this trip if you’re visiting.

The movie set and the glowworm caves were both amazing and the rolling hills landscape with sheep everywhere during our drive was breathtaking. Incredible experience, beautiful views that the entire family enjoyed. We have kids aged from 10-15 and all had a great time. The guide, Adil, was very informative throughout the drive and provided the history of New Zealand and made the trip especially memorable.

Fun day seeing Hobbiton and the Glow Worm Caves

The entire experience of our tour was excellent. Jon was our guide and he was friendly, fun, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. The ride down was comfortable with rest breaks built in and complimentary water and snacks. The tours were organized, with clear directions on time and locations to meet. We didn’t have to lift a finger, everything was handled for us and we were able to enjoy the beauty of Hobbiton and the Glowworm caves without any trouble. We only had two days in New Zealand and I’m very glad we did this tour. It was a chance to see the sights, the country, and some small towns along the way. I highly recommend for anyone visiting and interested in seeing more of New Zealand outside of Auckland! Be sure to ask for Jon!

This was my second time doing this exact tour - two years apart. It’s a very long day with lots of driving (12 hour day) but it’s SO WORTH IT. Hobbiton is AMAZING and so was the Waitomo Cave experience. Adil was our driver and we were all so happy that he gave us such a wonderful commentary along the way about New Zealand. He was super knowledgeable about all things New Zealand and was always able to point things of interest out to us along the way. We ALL appreciated that! He even squeezed in a little “surprise” stop along the way at the end of our day that was a special memory we will never forget. 😊

Great organisation friendly staff well set out

Our driver Jon was fantastic. He was friendly, engaging, but also intuitive in giving the group time to rest during the drive. Jon relayed interesting and informative facts about New Zealand and provided humor and knowledge. Our Hobbiton tour guide Annie was knowledgeable and also engaging. Our Hobbiton visit was an absolute highlight and I'd recommend this tour to both film/book buffs as well as those that have limited knowledge of the series. The Waitomo caves was also a great experience and overall, I would highly recommend this tour package to anyone thinking of visiting Hobbiton and the Waitomo glow worm caves.

The ride and commentary related to the tour was skilfully provided by Raymond. I personally appreciated his smart driving, finding ways to optimise the overall road trip. The two main sites we visited were nicely combined on a day trip with reasonable breaks, so at the end I did not feel exhausted. My favourite was by far the Hobbiton experience, being also a movie fan; it felt like I was immersed in the real Middle Earth world, not too touristic or staged as I initially imagined. The actual site tour was very well-done! Overall a positive small group tour experience!
