Hobbiton & Waitomo Caves Day Tour With Lunch From Auckland

This tour was amazing. Grant, our guide was knowledgeable and made the experience unforgettable.. We always knew what was coming up, how long we had and where to meet next. He gave us a tremendous amount of history and safety was always Paramount. His driving was excellent and our experience at the Hobbiton movie set and the glowworms were magical. I would highly recommend this tour company, the guides are top notch, the motorcoach is comfortable and has Wi-Fi and charging outlets. Seriously a cider or ale at the Green Dragon Inn… touring a . 8 scale hobbit house…and the new trolls were priceless

This was very fun trip to Hobbiton and the Waimoto Caves. Our guide, Trent, was excellent. Pickup and drop off at our hotel was very convenient. I will certainly look for more tours with Trent and Cheeky Kiwi. Thanks for the great experience. The trip was a full day excursion, leaving Auckland around 6am and returning to the hotel around 7pm. Trent provided well timed rest stops along the journey in a comfortable Mercedes van. This particular tour included lunch with a menu that accommodates most diets. If you are a fan of Middle Earth and have a full day I’d highly recommend this combo tour with Trent and Cheeky Kiwi.

We had a wonderful day with our guide, Trent. He was extremely attentive and helpful throughout the entire experience, very punctual, and the transportation was excellent. Trent has an impressive knowledge of New Zealand, its culture, history, and attractions. We visited the Hobbiton Movie Set and the Waitomo Caves, and his knowledge and explanations made the whole experience even more enjoyable. We highly recommend Trent and Cheeky Kiwi Travel and would definitely choose them again!

We take a lot of sightseeing tours, and this was one of the very best! Yes, Hobbiton and the Waitomo caves were amazing and worth the experience by themselves. But our tour guide, Liam, was absolutely fantastic! He was born and raised in New Zealand, and used the long drive times to share with us the history and culture of New Zealand and its people. It was such a great opportunity to learn so much about a place we’d never been, and Liam is a true expert. He made the drive fun and educational, and he even stopped so we could sample some ice cream he recommended. He also took us on a short nature hike in the forest at Waitomo to teach us about the native trees and plants. This experience would have been fun regardless. Hobbiton and Waitomo were both amazing. But what made the experience truly memorable was Liam and all that we learned from him! Thanks Cheeky Kiwi and Liam for such a great day!

The tour was definitely worth the price we paid for, and the lunch included was much better than we expected. Our tour guide Trent was awesome, he arrived early to pick us up and took good care of everyone. He’s friendly and provide us with heaps of information along the way. The Hobbiton movie set is a must visit and we were really happy overall.

Dave was an excellent driver guide. Very knowledgeable, friendly and kind. He always had a smile on his face. The guide at Hobbiton was also great, no rush so we had enough time to enjoy the sights. He had a fine sense of humor, and was knowledgeable and obviously a fan of the LOTR. Wish we had more time at Waitomo, but the guide was funny and well informed, and it was still a good experience. The excursion both to the Hobbiton and the Waitomo Glowworm Caves was very interesting, a real success! We enjoyed the whole day, and Grant, our driver, made it even more interesting with his positive attitude and great knowledge of NZ.

While a 5:45 am pick up was very early, seeing Hobbiton and the Waitomo Glowworm Caves made it totally worth it. Matt was an excellent guide - he pointed out interesting sites and had good stories. He handled pick up at about 6 hotels (?) after our pick up (there were people in the van when we were picked up) smooth and relatively painless. Hobbiton was a real treat - especially for a LOTR/Hobbit fan (me) however, my husband enjoyed it too. The glowworms were special - definitely something I will remember forever.

Viator and the company gave such great help and advice every step of the booking. The tour company were excellent, on time, tour leader Grant was helpful, kind, just the right amount of chatty and informative and the locations were amazing. Hobbiton was absolutely a highlight of our trip, the most magical and yet professionally run place imaginable. Even in the rain, with golf umbrellas provided! The caves were likewise magic. Be aware that there is a decent amount of walking and negotiating smallish hills, rough ground and steps. I'm a bit lacking in mobility but it is so worth it to push past it, and staff are very supportive! Highly recommend all aspects of the booking.

Fun trip nice experience I'm glad we had pit stops on the way very long drives ,driver was very informative and fun to get along with the caves are a great experience and Hobbiton was fun

I was very impressed with John and his informative information and his humor. All of the stops were well planned out and exceeded my expectations. Now for the downside of the transportation. The van was definitely not well organized as in seating. The last two rows in the back were unbearable in sitting. 2nd from the back had a leg clearance of just 7.5 inches or 19cm. The very back seat had only 6.5 inches or 16.5cm using my phone length as a guide. All other rows were around 10 inches or 25.5cm. Last two rows are definitely not enough of leg clearance to sit and I found myself and the others in the back sitting side sadle the entire driving trip of at least 4 hours total time. I'm 5'11" (180cm) and it just didn't work. The other couple struggled much more with her legs being held up with her arms a lot of the time. I kept both my legs over the seat side and leg stayed numb most of the time. My recommendations are to arrange seating with people under 4'6" 138cm to sit in the rear two rows.

Hobbiton was a great experience and am amazed on how well maintained it is. The tour guide was knowledgeable and well trained to show us around and everyone in the tour is patient waiting for people to take photos before moving to the next stop. While Waitomo cave can be skipped and it’s definitely overrated where you can’t take photos inside the cave and the boat ride was a joke to me as it’s basically the guide moving the boat inside the cave and we can only take photos towards the end which was not as easy given it’s dark

It was a good day out. Hobbitown as expected. The caves were a little disappointing as they’re not as glowy as you think.

Absolutely enjoyed Hobbiton. Guide Danilo was knowledgable and entertaining. I didnt know what to expect but was very pleased with the walking tour. I was really looking forward to the Waitomo Caves but was very disappointed. Guide was informative but the underground boat ride to see the glowworms wasn’t a boat ride. We flowed for a short while, drifted back, got pulled forward and then flowed back to the entry point. Glowworms were difficult to see due to the woven holes of light overhead. A big thing was made about needing silence but other groups could be heard thruout the tour. Definitely what i expected. My original order said that a kiwi style lunch was included. But we had to pay for our own. I was disappointed in that. Driver was hard to hear - not sure if it was because we were in the back of the bus. On the plus side, he drove us safely to & from our destination.

Our tour guide John was friendly, funny, knowledgeable, and made sure everyone was safe and had a great experience. Hobbiton was fantastic, and the Waitomo Caves were beautiful! It was also great to learn about New Zealand and Auckland on the drive. Highly recommend!

Extremely well-planned and well managed trip. Grant was our tour guide and he was friendly and professional. The trip ran like clock work and we enjoyed every moment… the two main attractions were amazing b it even the little stops were nice. Ideal way to spend a day and learn a lot about the Auckland area and NZ in general. Great job, Grant!

Grant was a wonderful guide . We had a very disagreeable woman on our tour and did nothing but complain the whole time . He handled her with respect and grace . We throughly enjoyed the Hobbiton Village and also the glow worm cave . Again kudos to Grant !

John our guide was the best - friendly, engaging, informative, helpful and very knowledgeable. Went to the extra effort of ensuring everyone got individual and group photos. Hobbiton was much more engaging than we thought & glow worm caves were fascinating. Very highly recommended.

John was the best tour guide! From the moment I was collected to the time I was dropped back to the hotel I felt so at ease with the whole group and had the most amazing day! The information about the areas we were travelling to was so nice and Hobbiton was incredible! As were the caves with the glow worms. There were a few surprises here and there and the cafe we had lunch in was very quaint and the food was delicious. I highly recommended this tour for everyone but especially if you’re travelling solo, I could not have asked for a better experience and cannot recommend Cheeky Kiwi enough

This was a whole day event with Hotel pick-up at 7:30 am and drop=off around 8 pm. Drive to Hobbiton is beautiful and our tour guide keep us amused with funny stories and facts. If you are Lord of Rings fan this is a must tour. Spent about 3 hours including a nice lunch. Waitomo Caves tour is unique with all the Glow worms and their lifestyle. Will highly recommend if you are in Auckland.

Great for fans of LOTR but the real gem is the Wai-tomo cave tour. The tours were shorter than i’d like but there’s only so much time as it was a long ride from Auckland. Thankfully, our tour guide/driver Jill was highly experienced on the road and got us through safely and in time for the tours despite the heavy downpour.

Fantastic trip to the caves and Hobbiton in the company of our witty and knowledgable driver Lance, who’s stories and brief and rather suspect history of New Zealand made the journey pleasant and seem shorter. Thoroughly recommend!

Trent explained clearly. Because we left so early, we asked everyone if they needed snacks or water before lunch. We also asked everyone if they brought an umbrella because of the occasional drizzle! The itinerary was smooth, and they also inquired about lunch options in advance, so they could eat as soon as they arrived at the restaurant. Habi Village is very beautiful, and the firefly cave is also very special! When you are about to leave the firefly cave, you can take pictures. You can set up the camera beforehand to avoid being flustered.
