Auckland To Rotorua Via Hobbiton Small Group Tour (One Way)

Perfect experience if you are a fan of Lord of the Rings. The final visit to Te-Puia is the perfect ending for the trip. I recommend the one-way tour, and spend an extra day in Rotorua.

Really glad I got to see Hobbiton while visiting New Zealand and even better that this tour was available to do in one direction as it got me to Rotorua from Auckland.

Our tour guide Simon was so friendly and welcoming. Everything was so stress free & organised. We had the option to add on a trip to Waiotapu Thermal Wonderland, which we took. We really enjoyed our trip and I definitely recommend you book if you’re wanting to a way to get to Rotoura from Auckland. Such a calming drive with amazing views. Cannot recommend more.

Great tour! Super informative! Loved having that lil bit extra time in hobbiton compared to other tours! John our guide was fantastic, even though we weren’t booked in for the Waiotapu he was easily able to add us on and get us sorted for that extra bit, highly recommend!

What a great day it was. It began early, really early, but the drive went by fast. We were only three in our group and that was an opening for a unique experience. Timmy, our guide, was brilliant leading genuine discussions and telling stories about the area and about NZ. Just a great day. I'm very happy with the tour and can't recommend it enough.

Lovely tour. Very punctual and hospitable. Grant took care of me and others anwering any questions and prepping for all contingencies from traffic to your times while still allowing time for shopping and even a Hokey Pokey stop. He's kind, patient and extremely efficient and knowledgeable about the area and even have recommendations for other restaurants and experiences. Hobbiton to was well handled all around and a great experience especially for fans of the movies. Had a great day overall and thanks again to Grant for making it particularly special!

Just an unbelievable adventure. Such a bucket list thing to do for any Lord of The Rings fan! This is some of the most spectacular views anyone will ever see on their lives. A must do!

We had a great experience with Cheeky Kiwi Travel. Geoff was our guide and he was engaged with the group the entire time and very organized. Prior to pickup, everyone was added on whatsapp and given time updates. He also talked a lot about local things on our ride to Hobbiton. We booked with another company for the return trip from Rotorura (due to availability) and the difference was definitely noticeable! Would definitely recommend Cheeky Kiwi and their attention to detail and clear communication.

Liam was wonderful as a tour guide and driver. He is very knowledgeable and courteous, well suited for the job.

We used this tour to see Hobbiton and reposition from Auckland to our next Airbnb in Rotorua. Our guide Geoff made the drive go by fast by telling us lots of information about the sights we passed and the country in general. Hobbiton is not to be missed, especially if you’re a fan of Lord of the Rings - but really interesting for almost anyone. This was our 2nd experience with the Cheeky team - you can’t go wrong with these guys!

I highly recommend this full day trip starting w a visit to the hobbiton movie set. We were so lucky it didn't rain until the very end of the day. No need to bring your breakfast or lunch as you can get it at the shires rest cafe, a huge range of food available and not expensive. Our driver, Matt, was super knowledgeable, helpful, professional and efficient. He even showed us things to do and places to visit when we arrived at Rotorua and pointed out where i needed to catch the intercity bus. Our next stop was wai-o-tapu the thermal wonderland. You have plenty of time to do the full walk around the geothermal park and take heaps of pictures, no need to rush. The track is clearly marked but there are a lot of stairs up and down if you do tracks 2 and 3. Theres a cafe and giftshop. A great day highly recommended, in fact i recommend any cheeky kiwi tour i have done quite a few and they're all friendly and professional.

Dave was awesome! We had originally only booked Hobbiton but he recommended adding on Te Puia and totally worth it. We left our jacket on the bus and he was able to facilitate getting it back to us.

Hobbiton is one of my dreamed places to visit. Finally I visited it. These Hobbits houses and their gardens, and Hobbiton overall landscapes are better than I imagined. Visiting the inside of a Hobbit house was a huge bonus, every room of that house was fully furnished with cute furnitures and decorations. The entire 2 hours Hobbiton tour were filled with fun!

Had a bit of a scare this morning as the pickup was late by 30min past original time. Despite this, I’d still rate the experience excellent. The team was responsive and emphatic, so it all worked out in the end. The tour experience was great, our guide Ben was friendly and attentive, with incredible knowledge of the history, nature, flora & fauna and legends around Rotorua, which made the road trip that much more enjoyable. Hobbiton was such a highlight to see the movie comes to life IRL, the town felt alive and real, and the interior of the Hobbit holes were extremely detailed, exquisite. Would recommend!

Auckland to Hobbiton tour was brilliant. Our tour guide, Mr. John was absolutely fantastic and as the company name goes, was very “Cheeky”. We had a wonderful time. Absolutely amazing tour! When they say tour, they meant tour starting from the pick up at your accomodations. Got to know not only about the Hobbiton movie set but also a little unexpected tour of NZ/Auckland itself! The ride there was not boring at all and thanks to our guide.. got to say this has to be the best tour ever

What a fantastic experience! loved being able to transfer with my luggage from Auckland to Rotorua and include such an iconic experience at Hobbiton! our driver guide picked a great rest stop on our way for breakfast allowing for the perfect amount of time to order food enjoy eating it and to use the washroom. our guide was very knowledgeable along the whole trip and provided very clear instructions as to where and when to be so we didn't miss our Hobbiton entrance. our group had only 8 people in the vehicle which allowed for plenty of space to stretch out for the drive. the vehicle also included USB ports to charge devices. Hobbiton was such a surprise and blew me away! this is a must stop to experience while in New Zealand! We had so much fun! Dave was such a great guide. Always looking out for us to find the best way to experience the journey. He kept giving us tips on where to sit for the best views, or where to take the best photos. Weather was on our side, so we had a beautiful journey to Hobbiton, and we got to learn a lot about the history and culture of the area. Thanks Dave!

Our one way tour from Auckland to Rotorua was an incredible experience. Our pickup at our hotel was timely and our guide, Simon, was incredibly informative and supported everyone’s needs. Our stop at Hobbiton was an amazing movie set tour. Our small group was kept on pace to make time for the rest of our stops. There was some road work we waited for on the way to Rotorua, but Simon was patient and found ways to make up time throughout the day. We enjoyed seeing the geysers and kiwis at Te Pau.

The tour was more than what I expected. The driver and guide Simon was pretty nice, kind, helpful and had a great communication with everyone.

Wow what an amazing way to start our holiday … very early start but that suited us as we started to adjust our body clock. Ale the guide was friendly, musing and extremely knowledgeable, with a coffee stop on the way, so the trip to Hobbiton passed quickly. The tour was absolutely amazing and the weather was kind to. We were the only ones on our tour doing the one way trip. so Ale dropped everyone else off at Te Puia, then helped us to organise our own visit for tomorrow, sadly not the evening experience as all fully booked, and then showed us other options we had before dropping us safely to our hotel… over and above service!! Highly recommended

We had such a lovely day on the Cheeky Kiwi tour! Our tour guide Alfredo was great and very knowledgable about New Zealand. Van was very new and super comfortable, they even gave us snacks on the journey which were much appreciated. Loved Hobbiton and got dropped off at our accom in Rotorua. Overall a great day!

The whole experience with Cheeky Kiwi is wonderful. They proactively contacted me to confirm the pick up time and place. Matt picked me up at exactly the time specified, the coach is very comfortable. He briefed us every detail making sure everyone enjoys the trip. I reached Rotorua around noon leaving lots of time to explore the town on my own. Seeing the Hobbiton is so magical and the 2 hour guided tour just too short! Doing it one-way is convenient to get to Rotorua without driving. Definitely recommend this tour to everyone.

Hobbiton was a good tour.Cheeky Tour person was just ok. A late pickup, blended tour groups, and some confusion is the reason for the rating.

Joseph was handling our shuttle and he was extremely helpful and punctual. He gave us relevant info about landmarks, and went out of his way to make it as convenient for passengers as possible. Handling a group of people with mixed destinations can't be easy yet it felt very easy and convenient. Props to him and to Cheeky Kiwi travel to make to it all possible. Would highly recommend

Had an amazing time. Our Guide was very friendly and entertained us the whole drive with informations and fun facts. Water, Chips and a muesli bar were provided. We even had time to eat something after our hike at wai o taupo.

Our driver/guide, Simon, was great! Excellent job! He definitely made the trip a lot more enjoyable! What a great trip!
