The sunset view was amazing. It was a nice boat ride. Just a bit annoyed with young girls who could not care and blocked our view of the sunset. They were standing for a long time. The tour guide was good. Enjoyed also the music on the boat.

Itinerary
Cruise Beneath the Iconic Auckland Harbour Bridge, one of the city's most recognisable landmarks
Enjoy views of Auckland’s iconic Sky Tower as it catches the last light of the day, rising above the city skyline before gradually lighting up as Auckland transitions into night. Opened in 1997, the Sky Tower quickly became one of the city’s most recognisable landmarks, standing as a symbol of modern Auckland above the historic Waitematā Harbour below. From the water, you can take in the contrast between the city’s maritime past and its glowing contemporary skyline.
As we pass the Ports of Auckland, you’ll see the working heart of the city’s waterfront. This area has long been Auckland’s gateway to the world, where goods, people, and stories have arrived and departed across the Waitematā Harbour. Today, cargo ships, cruise liners, ferries, and harbour vessels continue that legacy, keeping Auckland connected by sea just as it has been for generations.
Cruise past the charming seaside village of Devonport, one of Auckland’s oldest coastal settlements, known for its historic villas, sandy beaches, and relaxed village feel just across the harbour from the city. With its strong maritime heritage, naval history, and beautiful waterfront, Devonport has long been connected to the life of the Waitematā Harbour. From the water, you’ll enjoy a classic view of this much-loved seaside suburb, framed by beaches, heritage homes, and volcanic landmarks.
Pass by the New Zealand Maritime Museum, where stories of exploration, migration, and seafaring life bring Auckland’s deep connection to the ocean to life.
After dark you will experience the city light up within the Viaduct Harbour.
Nestled on the edge of Auckland’s sparkling Waitematā Harbour, Westhaven Marina is one of the city’s most iconic waterfront destinations. Surrounded by masts, sea breeze, and sweeping views of the Harbour Bridge and city skyline, it is the perfect starting point for a day out on the water. From here, the harbour opens up into a world of maritime history, golden sunsets, and unforgettable cruising moments.

Nice tour. Boat was comfortable. Unfortunately it was cloudy so we were not able to get good sunset pics. The captain/narrator is soft spoken and it was sometimes difficult to hear him. Inexplicably, they play music inside the lower cabin, which makes it almost impossible to hear what the captain is saying. Nice trip other than that.
Sunset did not happen due to weather clouds and lost the taste and the intention of the travel. But very friendly staffs
Absolutely stunning, the sunset was beautiful, it was full moon behind us also and once it got dark and the city and bridge lights came on I was just in awe. The tour guides were lovely and shared a lot of interesting info about the harbour. It was quite chilly in the wind so wear some warmer clothes. Overall fantastic experience would definitely recommend for something different to do on the Viaduct.
We had a fantastic sunset cruise through the harbor, with knowledgeable guides, blankets, and optional bar and snacks
Fantastic trip even though we did not see the sunset because it was cloudy the Skipper and the crew were amazing well with taking
Such a lovely evening. Very nice staff and a beautiful and calm cruise through the harbour. Definitely recommend!
It was such an amazing value for money! Team was very friendly and enthusiastic. Additionally, I was able to capture some amazing photos.
The tour operator was wonderful and gave us great info and views!
Great tour commentary, friendly staff and an interesting history of the Auckland Harbour. The sunset views were gorgeous and I highly recommend the value for money tour.
Ari the skipper does a superb job and clearly enjoys her work. Go Ari!…………………………………………………………………………..
We were disappointed with our sunset cruise experience. We were instructed to arrive at 6:10 pm for a 6:30 pm departure, but we were still waiting for other passengers at 6:40 pm and didn’t depart until shortly after. With us arriving at the expected time of 6:10 the people to arrive at 6:40 were 30 minutes late! The skipper acknowledged the delay and said he would make up the lost time for us. However, we still arrived back early. The first boat had departed on time at 6:30 pm, yet despite our later departure, we arrived back before them. This left us feeling that we hadn’t received the experience or time on the water that we had paid for. Another major disappointment was the atmosphere on board. A group of passengers who arrived significantly late brought their own alcohol on board and were very disruptive, treating the cruise more like a party boat. Despite appearing intoxicated, they continued to be served alcohol. There were also young children on board, yet these passengers were choosing music containing explicit language and profanity. Overall, the lack of consideration for other passengers, the handling of the late departure, and the failure to maintain an appropriate atmosphere for families really impacted our experience. A sunset cruise should be enjoyable and relaxing for everyone, not dominated by disruptive, intoxicated passengers. Unfortunately, this experience fell well short of our expectations, and we would have appreciated better time management and more consideration for the safety and comfort of all passengers.
Timed perfectly for sunset photos and Auckland lights on the evening departure! Dress warmly! It can get chilly on the upper deck at sunset!
The journal was really good. You have to be at the hour but they wait a little. They speak about a little of Auckland's history
My friend and I recently took the two hour sunset tour and it was absolutely fantastic! the pace was perfect allowing plenty of time for us to enjoy the breath-taking views. Our host was incredibly knowledgeable, sharing interesting facts about all the sites which added so much value to the tour!
Great Value Sunset Cruise, Highly Recommended
I booked this trip whilst I was waiting for a friend to join me in Auckland the next day. Got lucky with the sunset and the staff were lovely partliculary Quill. Its also fantastic value for money this little ride around the harbour as night falls. Would recommend it. As others hvae mentioned defo take more layers than you think you'll need
The boat was fine. Plenty of parking at the wharf. Staff very good. The downside for our trip was the weather. Very cold and windy.
The experience was amazing, but being overcharged and then not getting assistance is disgusting Dealing with a third party booking is terrible and unfriendly
It was great even though wet. The crew was fantastic & very knowledgable. My son even though nervous at first enjoyed the trip thoroughly.
Red boat sunset cruise we did on our trip to Auckland was amazing from start to finish , the sunset was stunning and the city lights were such a treat to see the city at night in its full glory . Our amazing skipper ( Arie ) sorry if the spelling is incorrect . She is fantastic at her job and great at telling people the history of (Hog wash) the vessel we were cruising in and the information she shared about the area was very interesting … great cruise to take while in Auckland .. I highly recommend a must do . Lisa Holden
My experience was beautiful, fun & my friend and I are still fizzing from what a great trip it was. It was a great price for the length of time the cruise was. I would 100% recommend it to anyone. Great families, great idea for a date nightbut also a fab idea for friends.
It was an amazing experience with my best friend; beautiful friendly staff & the Matariki Light show was gorgeous.
Firstly, thank you to the staff who took care of us. From the get-go. You arrive to Pier Z and the staff will escort you to the boat - where you see and hear the Staff engaging with other skippers. They are super helpful, should you get lost they will ring you and help guide you down to the right pier, because it can be quite tricky. Staff: I actually forgot her name (Wahine Maori with a Moko kauae) was super duper helpful and welcoming. She is welcoming as you first arrive onto the boat and then is miraculously becomes the bartender. Onboard Bar: The drink (alcoholic and non alcoholic options) are soo good. They literally have so many options. And for snacks, they have chippies and buldak noodles which I thought I was a great idea considering it was chilly out. Blankets: It was a chilly night, but nevertheless was fabulous. Because it was chilly, they provided blankets for all on board. This little touch, made it that much more homely. Scenic views: You are able to see so many cool places, some of which don’t even look like Auckland. And along the way the the staff are educating you. This was cool. Never knew Chelsea’s Sugar was so big and old. The sunset was gorgeous. And our beautiful Maori staff member could see we were struggling to take a selfie so she took 5 very stunning photos of my partner and I in different spots. It was like our own little photographer session. Harbour Bridge: At the time of our cruise the Harbour Bridge Live Matariki show was about to start - in 4 minutes so they allowed us to hang out at the bridge so we could see the light show nice and clear. I’m not sure if this was part of the plan but it was so cool. The energy on the boat: This boat is family owned, you can feel the warm embrace of the boat. It kind of feels like you can do what you like. Vaping on the top deck was a life saver. The rules are limited, and it’s so welcoming. I would definitely recommend.
A great way to relax and see the sights along the harbor as well as the magnificent Auckland skyline.
Amazing experience, the 4.30 cruise was perfect for sunset, the trip back as the city lights became bright was perfect. Captain and crew were amazing
It was rainy and cloudy, but Red Boats operated. The boat ride was still nice, and we could see the city and bridge lights.
Great Cruise around Auckland waterfront and watch the sunset. Caleb and Aria (hopefully spelling is correct) were both fantastic. Very chill boat ride with amazing views back to the city and the light show with the music on the harbour Bridge was amazing. Totally recommended 👌
Very good. Cold but next time we'll wear our winter clothes, that would make it perfect. We love the experience
It was very fun! Just a tip if your doing it in winter bring a blanket xx other than that it was such an amazing experience x
Rug up when you go on a cooler months the view of the city is awesome The tour guide gives you a good history background of the city
There was sailing in the dark with no explanation at all. They wrote will be a guid but there wasn’t. Instead of watching the skyline we were sailing in the dark.
Honestly boring. The only good views are the first 5 minutes as you see the city sailing away, and the last 5 minutes of the city lights on the way back. The rest of the time you are just on the water with not much to see for 2 HOURS! Wayyyyy too long. The boat is old, there is not much space, and the PA system didn't work so we had no commentary as advertised. Overall disappointing and would not recommend.
So awesome Loved it -Boat cruise was so awesome
We loved this cruise. Was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. Kids absolutely loved it. The sunset was beautiful, the pictures we captured were amazing! The captain and crew were super nice and friendly! Would definitely do this again
I’ve been on a lot of sunset cruises all over the world. This one was disappointing to say the least. The boat was old and dingy. The audio system was horrible. The view of the sunset was hampered by a bunch of cranes. If they had positioned the boat a little differently it could have been great. Last but not least, there were WAY too many people on this boat!
Great experience overall and friendly staff. Highly recommended for families. The experience was worth the money.
The skipper and first mate are first rate! You can tell they have a passion for the sea, the bridge, the bay, sunsets, big boats and small ones! It was a delightful time on the water and we had spectacular views of the skyline, the lighted bay bridge, the islands, the harbor, along with down to earth commentary by the skipper who has been at this for many years and still marvels at the things he sees every night!
It was a great experience. The crew could not have been nicer. The captain did a commentary the entire time.
Whilst showing an Aussie friend around Auckland for the weekend we thought this trip looked like a bargain. Didn’t know what to expect. But boy did we luck out! The boat had a bit of personality but we felt safe and welcome by the skipper and crew. They went out of their way to show everyone the coolest spots around the harbour and were very informative. Made sure we spent plenty of time getting the best views as the sun set behind the harbour bridge. Then enjoyed the amazing lit up city and bridge on the way back. Honestly, what an absolute treat! Go for it! It was a total highlight!
Best experience ever! So worth it. Loved the vibe and it was very reasonable price.
Lovely relaxing cruise on Auckland Harbour. Crew were very friendly, and commentary very informal and informative. Crew made the most of the sunset with ample time for plenty of photos. Very enjoyable way to spend an evening
A great way to end our 4 week tour if NZ. The weather was near perfect with a superb sunset. every aspect of the cruise was enjoyable and conductedxat a relaxed pace. The skipper gave an informed commentary - picking out a lot of historical features and landmarks as we toured the harbour. The commentary was measured and didnt dominate the cruise. We were given loads of photo opportunitues ( and advanced warning/ stopping and turning the boat) to allow everyone the chanfe to get the best pictures as we passed landmarks. The return route under the Harbour Bridge as the sun wax setting and the bridge / city lights came on was very memourable. We had time on tge boat to chat with other passengers and space to move about without it feeling too crowded. The spirit on the cruise was rekaxed and everyone appeared to be well looked after by an attentive crew . I would definitely recommend this tour for anyone wanting to see Auckland from a different vantage point.
The captain was very informative about the harbor and city. He cruised at a good pace and waited at certain places to ensure everyone was able to take plenty of beautiful pictures of the sunset and city skyline. The tour was supposed to be 1 1/2 hours but was close to 2 hours. It was a pleasant excursion.
An enjoyable harbour sunset cruise. The boat was smallish and a little dated but the activity was good overall
The Red Boat Sunset Cruise was a blast! We highly recommend it for those who want a lowkey reasonably priced experience on the water. Our skipper positioned the vessel so the we approached Harbor Bridge at sunset. Stunning memory of our visit to Auckland. The information about places along the downtown waterfront was also informative and helpful. Well done! Thank you, Marty and Betsy
Boat is old but runs OK. Seems safe. Operator waited too long for late arrivals. Inconvenience to 50 people to accommodate a few late arrivals. Damage to boat trying to dock after dark. Not much narrative about Auckland. Your money could be used better elsewhere
A very pleasant evening on the harbour. Boat was clean and comfortable. Crew were friendly and knowledgeable. Very enjoyable
Best Boat Cruise, best sunset nice and cheap friendly crew would recommend this boat cruise again in the future
Went for the Sunset Harbour cruise and both the captain and bartender were super friendly and accommodating. The views were beautiful and although it was overcast it was still definitely a worthwhile experience. the cruise was 2 hours long. and the price was very reasonable for both the experience and for the drinks available.
