Auckland : Waitomo Spellbound Glow Worm Twin Caves Private Tour

DO THIS GLOW WORM TOUR.!!!!! Andrew and I went on the 2 caves tour on Wednesday. Doug was our guide. We absolutely had a fabulous experience because of him. His knowledge was exceptional and the whole tour exceeded our expectations so much. This is a great family business that looks after the environment. Love the smaller groups too. In March, we went on a tour to the Waitomo Caves with David, and he did everything to make the trip memorable and comfortable. On the drive over, he entertained us with interesting stories of history and science. The van was comfortable, and our tour group was composed of a few couples and solo travelers. They had water in case any of us didn't pack any for the day trip. We also stopped at a bakery that was great. For the actual caves, a different guide took us through, but the experience was simply incredible. We had a short easy hike to the caves, and we went to the glowworm cave first, which was out of this world. I especially enjoyed the boat portion and that the guide was strict about the no cell phones/lights portion, which felt so special and immersive. In the second cave, we learned about moas and wetas, which are very interesting. On the way back, David took us to the Fat Kiwi, which was a delicious lunch spot. We sat at a big table, and our group had a great time getting to know each other. As a driver and tour guide, David made us feel safe and well cared for during the tour. I would highly recommend visiting such an incredible spot with this tour company!

We had a delightful day with Wayne! He was patient and friendly with all on board. The tour was an amazing experience that we thoroughly enjoyed.

This tour was absolutely fantastic! Aaron and Shane were our 2 guides for the day and they were both brilliant! They were so friendly and knowledgeable and shared so much interesting information with the group. The journey to Waitomo and back from Auckland was long, but certainly not boring. There were comfort breaks along the way and Aaron pointed out lots of landmarks. The other guests on the tour were also great to chat to. The caves themselves were spectacular! The glowworms absolutely covered the ceiling and walls of the cave. It was like being in Avatar world. The short boat ride was mesmerising and Shane was more than happy to take and share photos. I loved that there was a section where photography was not allowed, as this really made the group fully immerse themselves and appreciate the nature and the amazing surroundings. The second cave was also super interesting with some incredible formations. Overall a fantastic day out. I recommend the tour to anyone who doesn't have a car and is based in Auckland, who wants to experience something truly beautiful and unique

Had a magical time at the glowworm caves. Its a unique natural phenomenon and should be on every visitors itinerary. The drive from Auckland was scenic. Our tour guide Doug was both fun and informative at the same time. The limestone caves and stalactite formations were beautiful. We visited 2 caves with a break for tea and biscuits. . I would highly recommend this tour with Expedigo Tours for a wonderful experience.

Great tour but a 2 hr drive coming and going

A fantastic experience all round. My tour operator david was a fantastic character, you could tell he was incredibly passionate about new zealand and it was heartening to hear someone speak with such honesty, really enjoyed spending the time with him. And the actual tour of the glowworm caves was an excellent experience with a very knowledgable guide called ross, who was well invested in the local area and proud of it too which really speaks to the passion surrounding the experience. Well worth the visit, a great days trip offering the very best of what new zealand has to offer.

We went with another couple and had a great time, the glow worms was an amazing experience and well worth the drive (it's a long 3 hour drive). The drive through the countryside also gave us a wonderful look of New Zealand. The glow worm tour guide & driver were informative & interesting. Glad we took the tour!

This was our last excursion of a 5 week trip and we were really surprised at how wonderful it was. We had done another excursion with glowworms, but also kayaked on that excursion and it was fun, but this with the small group and wonderful guides was absolutely magical. It was a long drive to get to it, but well worth it and our driver Dean was terrific, the size of the group made it very comfortable and we stopped along the way at a little cafe that was great as well. Overall this was one of our favorite experiences of our trip. Thank you, this deserves 10 stars.

We had an early start to the day and yes it is a long drive, but the experience was worth it. David our guide kept the energy flowing with his knowledge of the area and Hop our cave guide was so very knowledgeable as well. I have wanted to see the hlow worms for years and I am grateful we took the time to go to this particular cave.

Our driver Aaron was very attentive and kind, knew lots of info along the way… so made the trip go quickly!! The caves were absolutely stunning and I’d highly recommend this tour to anyone who’d like to witness the glow worms and caves! Pete, our host was also very knowledgeable and we really had the best time!

Outstanding trip! Easy drive and both our driver Matt and cave guide Hop (sorry can't remember his full Mãori name) were awesome. One of those things that you really can't see too many places.

If I could, I would give this tour 6 stars. Our driver, Dene, was very courteous and professional and filled us in on a lot of local knowledge. He had a great sense of humor and provided a nice break of about 45 minutes before and after the cave tours to stretch and grab a bite to eat. The landscape in the Waitomo region is spectacular. Our cave tour guide, Hop, was equally great. He took us on a 1 hour tour in the Spellbound cave, teaching us all about the life cycle of the glow worms and providing plenty of time to take spectacular shots of the insects. He also provided drinks and snacks and took pictures for you. The other cave was also very fascinating, as you got to see the bones of a 12,000 + year old Moa. What a spectacular 10 hour day!

Lovely drive, great information along the way, easy pick up and drop off system. As a solo-traveling female, I felt safe and in good hands. I definitely would book another adventure again with Expedigo.

This this was a fascinating adventure from beginning to end. Our tour guide DAVID was extremely knowledgeable and accommodating. Our guide through the caves was so informative. I would highly recommend this adventure. It is worth every penny.

I had a blast on this tour! Special kudos to our driver and guide David, who had a full van yet still managed to make each of us feel special and well-cared for. The glow worms are simply incredible and unlike anything I’ve seen anywhere else. The guides explained the phenomena at length and took great care that we didn’t trip in the dark, wet caves. They took awesome photos for us, which was really appreciated! Thank you so much David and the Expedigo team!!!

Truly a memorizing experience. Pick up was smooth and we appreciated having Jaime do all the fretting about getting us there and back with convenient stops. The caves were magical. Ross at Spellbound was a true guide through the glowworms and cave formations and conveyed his family's connection to the land. I loved learning all the details of the site and his banter. Worth the time in the van and all day venture from Auckland.
