Valentini showed me how to drink Greek Coffee! It's a great tour. Don't miss it. The food is from family owned establishments. Wonderful, wonderful food. And, good fun. Each place has its own personality.

Itinerary
We will stroll through the streets of Athens City Center while visiting traditional Greek street food vendors; true Athenian icons, multi-generational family businesses, and new commendable food entrepreneurs. Sample menu Sweet & Savory pies that you will never forget (i.e. Cheese Pie, Spinach Pie) Koulouri (toasted sesame bread ring) - Greece’s favourite breakfast on the run. this round-shaped bread is packed with good carbohydrates and proteins. Organic olive oil tasting. A traditionally brewed Greek coffee
Mitropoleos Square is one of the most charming squares in the historic center of Athens, located just a few minutes' walk from Syntagma Square and the Plaka district. The square is dominated by the impressive Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens (also known as the Cathedral of the Annunciation), the largest church in Athens and the seat of the Archbishop of Greece. Right next to the cathedral stands the much smaller but equally fascinating Little Metropolis (Church of Agios Eleftherios), a 12th-century Byzantine church renowned for its intricate stone carvings and architectural details. The contrast between the grandeur of the Metropolitan Cathedral and the intimate scale of the Little Metropolis beautifully illustrates the layers of Athenian history, from the Byzantine era to modern Greece. Today, Mitropoleos Square is a lively meeting point surrounded by cafés, shops, and pedestrian streets, making it an ideal place to pause while exploring central Athens.
This beautiful and vibrant square used to be the home of the city’s flower market. Only a couple flower vendors remain, as the rest have been replaced by café bars & eateries, becoming one of the hottest spots in town. Easy to reach no matter where you’re coming from, self-contained and peaceful, with no bothersome thru-traffic, the thriving square is teeming with life most hours of the day. We will enjoy a special delicacy from Crete, a pie like no other. It's called Sfakiani and is thin like crepe with soft cheese inside and honey on top! Sample Menu: Rakomelo: This famous alcoholic mixed drink is made by combining Raki (a grape flavoured brandy), with honey and warm spices like cardamom, cinnamon and local herbs.
Sample Menu: The ultimate Greek street food dessert: Loukoumades, aka “honey puffs” in the best place for 100 years. Aiolou street is a historical central paved road connecting Omonia square with Ermou street. Its name derives from the ancient Greek god of the winds, Aeolus. Constructed in 1833, Aiolou street is one of the oldest streets in Athens.
Visit the vibrant open fish and meat market of the city! Sample Menu: Souvlaki, our national street food. There are hundreds of Souvlaki places, but a handful of really good ones. We will take you for one of the most delicious, authentic and acclaimed!
Sample menu: PDO (Protected Destination of Origin) Greek cheeses, unique meats like pastourma and Tsipouro. Mecca of Athens’ spice and herb stores. Small, family-run businesses have been the lifeline of this street for decades, making it the first stop of any Athenian interested in food. PDO (Protected Destination of Origin) Greek cheeses and unique meats. Tsipouro, a popular grape-distilled spirit made pure or scented with anise. It is served as a welcome to guests, an accompaniment to meze or as the fuel for the laughter between old friends in cafes all over Greece.
Psyri or Psiri is central, trendy & unconventional! It is a colorful neoclassical neighborhood known for its artisans, specialty stores, restaurants, bars, tavernas (with or without live music), theaters, art and antique shops, as well as a small number of hotels.
Sample menu: Greek Honey tasting. 3 distinct delicious varieties. Kotzia Square is surrounded by lovely neoclassical buildings among which the old town hall. here is also a small archaeological site (where you can see the city's water supply system dating back to 2000 years ago) which has been recently brought to light following the excavations for the underground car park.
Located in the shadow of the Acropolis, the Monastiraki neighborhood is a blend of architectural styles, eras and cultures, sitting adjacent to the districts of Psyri, Plaka and Thisio. Monastiraki Square is one of the most enchanting squares in Athens, being the home to restaurants, cafes, shops, the famous flea market and plenty of ancient history. In the square, you can admire the sunken Church of Pantanassa, the only remaining part of the monastery (or rather nunnery) that existed on location during the Byzantine period and gave the area its name (Monastiraki means little monastery). But for many, Monastiraki is mostly synonymous with antiques and old treasures thanks to the flea markets and antique shops that dot the area towards Abyssinia Square.

Valentini was our guide through an excellent tour through the city tasting the best Athens has to offer. She was not only educating us in the culinary treats of Greece but also explained many of the ancient roots of the food along with the history of some of the city sites. I highly recommend this tour for all visitors to Athens. I only caution that you must bring a large appetite and an open mind because you will be surprised at how much better everything will taste.
This tour was fantastic and exceeded our expectations! Valentini is a true local and even showed us the places where she does her own shopping, which made the experience feel especially personal and authentic. We sampled a wide variety of foods—from breakfast favorites to lunch dishes and desserts—and even enjoyed an olive oil tasting. Along the way, she wove in fascinating stories about the city’s history. I give this tour my highest recommendation!
An Unforgettable Food Adventure in Athens! 🇬🇷❤️ WOW! What an exceptional experience! This was, without a doubt, one of the most wonderful food adventures I have ever had! From the very beginning, Valentini made me feel as though I was exploring Athens with a dear friend or even my own sister, someone who couldn’t wait to share all her favorite places and the secrets of her city. And the FOOD! Absolutely incredible! But what made this experience truly extraordinary was that it was so much more than a food tour. It was a journey through Greek culture, traditions, and history. The stories, the explanations, the little details… I learned SO MUCH! I had actually been looking for a separate olive oil tasting experience, and imagine my delight when I discovered that one was included in our tour! What a wonderful surprise! And poor Valentini! I simply could not stop asking questions! 😂 But she knew the answer to EVERYTHING, and she shared her knowledge with such enthusiasm, warmth, and generosity that I just wanted to keep learning more. What made this tour unforgettable was Valentini herself. Her passion for Athens, her incredible knowledge, and her genuine personality transformed a food tour into something so much more personal and meaningful. I came expecting wonderful Greek food. I left with a deeper appreciation for Greece, unforgettable memories, and the feeling that I had spent the day with a wonderful friend. If you are visiting Athens, DO NOT MISS THIS EXPERIENCE! And if you are lucky enough to have Valentini as your guide, you are in for something truly special! Thank you, Valentini, for an extraordinary adventure! ❤️🇬🇷
Eva was quite knowledgeable and very personable . The food we tried was delicious. Highly recommend this experience!
We had the most amazing time on this food tour with Valentini. She was one of the best guides we’ve ever had. Not only did we get to try a variety of foods, but we also learned a lot about how to taste the food, the cultural importance of the food, the history of Athen, and about the neighborhoods of Athens as well. I cannot recommend this tour enough.
The food tour was absolutely fantastic. Our tour guide, Eva, was excellent and made it so much more than just about food. We got an oral history of Greece and Athens. And, by the way, the foods we sampled were interesting and delicious. The meat and fish market was particularly interesting. I highly recommend this tour. And I would ask for Eva if at all possible.
Eva was our guide and we cannot imagine having a better one. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the history of where we went. Her personality lends itself to friendly interactions with everywhere we stopped and certainly put us at ease. Lots of laughs, chatting and answers to inquiries during our tour. Never a dull or uneasy moment. Thank you Eva!
We absolutely loved our tour. It was an amazing experience filled with fantastic food, all of the highest quality and with the freshest ingredients. Our tour guide, Valentini was wonderful, she was very knowledgeable, clearly loves food as we do, and was incredibly warm and friendly. I can’t recommend this tour enough it will be a highlight of your stay in Athens.
We did the Greek experience tour with Katarina. She was a wonderful guide snd we learned so much from her. All of the food was amazing. We learned so much about Athens and ate delicious foods along the way. Everything we ate was delicious, I loved that all of the places we visited were locally owned. we were so full at the end so make sure to start with an empty stomach. It was a great way to see Athens and learn about the food and culture in Athens. highly recommend it
Valentina was wonderful! Very professional with a great knowledge of Greek history. We had both sweet and savory Greek food: Pies, baklava, bread with an amazing lunch of pork or chicken gyros and freshly made potato fries. We had delicious Greek coffee and a very special Greek extra virgin Olive oil tasting! Highly worth the experience… go hungry and be prepared to walk the city!!
Valentini was an excellent guide. She was charismatic, experienced, and patient. We were a large group with many children. We enjoyed everything orchestrated for us to taste and the mix of history was also wonderful.
Valentini was an AMAZING tour guide. She showed us every wonderful neighborhood, introduced us to shop owners we mentioned wanting to visit, and was incredibly knowledgeable about the food tour as well as the history of Greece. We took many tours on our trip but this was the one I would say you absolutely should not miss.
What a fantastic food tour. We went to several places but never felt like it was too much or too little. Eva taught us about each bite and the history of the recipes as well as how locals cook these staple items. Eva made this tour everything we hoped it could be - walking, history, culture, understanding and food as part culture. We had high expectations for this tour based on reviews and those were exceeded by the places we visited, but mostly because of Eva. She has that extra something special that makes it feel like you are learning about each neighborhood and food with a friend. Will be recommending this tour to anyone we know going to Athens!
We took a food tour with Valentini in August of 2026. We had a wonderful time and visited venues that we would not have found on our own; we learnt so much about culture and history and food! Valentini has a passion for great quality food, and she knows where to find the best and most authentic vendors. I really appreciated how woderfully balanced the tour was. I felt engaged, entertained, but also relaxed. Walking and sitting and sampling food (with access to facilities) was tailored to our needs and abilities, so we never felt tired. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Athens.
Cannot recommend this tour enough. It was our favorite during a two week trip to Greece, and maybe our favorite ever. You will not only learn about the food (also receive detailed information shared later via email), you also hear about the traditions, history, etc. Katarina was an absolute pleasure to be with and was proactive about a food allergy, including bringing alternative options at every stop. A must do!!
Vanna (Val) gave a FANTASTIC 5 Star tour. It was not only an incredible food tour but also a tour through Greek history, culture and architecture! For me the highlights included tastings of halva in a store selling all natural Halva (and other products) in many different flavors; seeing and learning how authentic Greek coffee is made, Olive oil tasting and explanation about the types of olive oil and of course souvlaki at the best soulvlaki restaurant in Athens (Really!) complete with an explanation of the history of souvlaki and how it is prepared. I highly recommend this tour!!!... Kenny
We arrived to Athens at 11:30 AM after an overnight flight. This food tour was the best activity to kick off our two night stay. Our hotel room was not ready and this was the perfect way to spend the afternoon tasting delicious Greek food and learning about the culture. Highly recommend Valentini as a guide, she was wonderful.
Vana was a wonderful guide and not only gave us good information about the food we ate but historical significance as well. The food was all delicious and we would recommend this tour for anyone.
We had such a wonderful enjoyable late afternoon food tour with Valentini. She was so knowledgeable, and in addition to tasting local fare she provided us with the history of Athens. We loved our tour and Valentini was superb! Cant wait to go back to Athens!
Valentino was so much fun to tour with. She was very knowledgeable and shared personal stories too. We have a great day.
Wow, what a great tour! Vana was a great guide!! She took the time to tell great stories and explain the history of the area. The food choices were amazing 🤩. I would highly recommend this tour.
Valentino was exceptionally personable and knew where the best of the best food was
We could not have had a better, more knowledgeable and friendly host for the food tour! Katarina was just and shared her love of Greek food and her country! We thoroughly enjoyed every minute!
Vanna (our guide) and this tour are AMAZING. We (group of 8 Canadian women 40-70 yo) spent the day walking the most popular districts, learning history with exceptional delivery and ate the BEST variety of Greek food from savoury to sweet. This was our first day (and time) to Greece, and what a great way to introduce oneself to the life, food and culture. Vanna introduced her world to us with clarity, professionalism and every once of character and charisma. Our trip will be unforgettable because of this tour. Only a fool would decide to not book this tour.
The whole experience was fantastic, from start to finish, Valentini lead us through the back streets to traditional eateries, sampling so many local tastes. With her enthusiasm and passion, she made the whole experience fabulous. Would highly recommend.
We booked this Athen Bites tour from Rhonda Zorman of Enjoy Life Vacations in the USA and what a find this was! And Valentina, just perfect for us! Valentina from Athen Bites was terrific, an absolute gem! This was one of the highlights welcoming us back to Athens after many years she guided us through a 1/2 day food journey through the streets and locale eateries blending incredible flavors with the authenticity of Greek food and culture. It felt like for us, like a knowledgeable friend guiding us around rather than being led by a tour guide. We never once felt rushed or overwhelmed everything flowed naturally. Valentina was enthusiastic, engaging, and very open to questions and conversation which really made this experience even more memorable. If you’re looking for a genuine taste of Athens this is not to be missed.
Valentina was the BEST guide. She knows the area and GREAT food. We got history while tasting the best Athens had to offer. This was our food tour and would do it again in a heart beat especially with Valentina!!!
Valentini was an excellent guide. We wished we had done this tour at the begining of our trip. So many good things to eat. Do not eat before going on this tour.
We had the most amazing day with Valentini at the start of March! You could tell she was genuinely excited to share information about both the food and the history of Athens. She was very easy going and upbeat. Loved her photography work! Lol. All of the stops were excellent, and my only regret is that we did this on our last day in Greece!! Thank Valentini for making it a memorable day. :-)
An absolutely amazing tour! I was initially skeptical—having never done a food tour before, and the price seemed a bit high—but it was worth every single penny. It’s not just about the delicious and plentiful food (though that alone would be enough!). It’s the incredible stories, the thoughtful connections between each stop, the relaxed pace, the atmosphere, and the carefully selected venues. You can tell this itinerary was crafted with care and attention to every detail. A special shoutout to our guide, Valentini—she’s a truly genuine and kind-hearted person, full of knowledge, passion, and positive energy. Her mission was clearly to make sure everyone had a great time, and she absolutely succeeded. Highly recommend this delicious, educational, and fun tour. A must-do when in Athens!
Excellent tour and Valentini was great. I am late in posting a review, but found all the photos that Valentini took of our family and had to post. She made the day fun and informative and took us off the beaten path for some local finds. The souvlaki was delish and the dairy tasting was unexpected. Highly recommend.
Vana guided us through a wonderful selection of local eateries, each offering delicious and authentic Greek dishes. The tour was perfectly paced, allowing us to truly savor every bite without feeling rushed. Her storytelling and warm personality brought each stop to life, making the experience even more memorable. We walked away not only full, but with a deeper appreciation for Greek culture and culinary traditions. We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Athens—it's a fantastic way to discover the city's rich food scene and immerse yourself in its vibrant culture. 100/10
Thank you to Valentini our tour guide on the Athens Bites Tours! Valentini went above and beyond to provide my husband and myself with the best possible food tour of Athens. She brought us to places that we would have walked right by if we were exploring on our own, like Harry's Kitchen! We experienced tasting new foods and being enriched by Greek culture at its finest with a true professional. Thank you for your kindness, knowledge and company that day! We really enjoyed touring with you! Valentini is a true gem and an asset to your company.
Loved everything about this experience! The food, the history, the drinks, the laughs! It was just unforgettable! Huge shout out to Valentini, our guide, for being such a good host! She knows all the hidden spots and all the history and will surprise you and move you in every hidden, unexpected detour! It helped me fall in love with Athens again! Highly recommended, totally unmissable!!!
We did the tour with a group of friends during the Christmas period and even though we all grew up in Athens, we uncovered some hidden gems in the historical centre of the city. The overall planning and organisation was impeccable and made the tour an unforgettable experience with lots of great food, deserts (and some cheeky drinks to wash everything down). Such a great thing to do in Athens, we all loved it!
Even as a local, Athens Bites Tours was a great experience. It reminded me how rich and interesting Greek food culture really is. The tour took us to hidden spots around Athens that, despite being locals, we didn’t even know, with truly authentic flavors. Everything was relaxed, well-organized, and done with real love for Greek food. I would absolutely recommend it to both locals and visitors who want to experience Greek food in a more meaningful way and connect with our tradition.
Strolling around Athens with Valentini was an amazing experience for us. Even though we live in Athens, we had the chance to discover hidden gems and taste a variety of delicious treats since all the food stops have been selected very carefully. Also, during our walk Valentini shared interesting stories about Athens, the places we visited and the food. Valentini’s passion for Athens, food and culture made this tour unforgettable!
This was hands down the best tour I’ve ever taken. Our guide was phenomenal, and the food was absolutely impeccable. We even went back to several of the spots she introduced us to and used her tips throughout the rest of our stay. I highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to explore the local cuisine, get oriented with the city, or simply have a great time.
I was looking for a creative way to celebrate my birthday, and a friend suggested a food tour with Athens Bites—it turned out to be one of the best decisions I could have made. I booked a private tour for 10 people, and it was truly an unforgettable experience from start to finish. Everything was thoughtfully tailored to our needs: the timing, the duration, and even our dietary restrictions were handled with care and flexibility. Each stop on the tour was perfectly chosen, offering exceptional bites that showcased the very best of Athens’ food scene. What really elevated the experience, though, was our guide, Valentini. She is the sweetest, warmest person and brought so much energy, knowledge, and genuine passion to the tour. She made everyone feel welcome and turned the afternoon into something truly special. If you’re looking for a unique, fun, and memorable way to celebrate a special occasion—or simply want to experience Athens through its food—I couldn’t recommend Athens Bites more highly. It was an absolute blast and a birthday celebration I’ll remember for a long time.
We chose to book this food tour for clients visiting from abroad, and it proved to be the perfect way to introduce them to Athens, its culture, and its food in just four hours. From the very beginning, the experience was well organized, engaging, and welcoming. The tour offered a wonderful overview of Greek cuisine while also providing meaningful insight into local traditions, daily life, and the history behind the food. The pacing was excellent—never rushed, yet covering a great variety of tastes and neighborhoods. It felt like a genuine cultural introduction rather than just a tasting tour. We would highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for an authentic, enjoyable, and memorable introduction to Athens.
Vana was the perfect host, warm, friendly, lively and full of nice stories. The food was really excellent, the pies, the souvlaki, the ice-cream and the loukoumades were a standout for us. Weve got some really good insights to the history of Athens and the food. Loved the pace and the balance of everything. Every detail was very well thought. Couldn't recommend more
We love travelling and every time we visit a new destination we book a food tour. This year we had friends visiting from abroad and decided to treat them with a food tour in our home city and it was a smashing hit. We loved every minute, all the places we visited were top in their class. We ate, we walked, we talked, we laughed and heard great stories around the food and the city. We did not want the experience to end. Thank you ATHENS BITES and our amazing guide Vana for an extraordinary experience that we will never forget!!!
I organised a food tour for colleagues visiting from abroad for our annual meeting, and the entire experience was exceptional. Communication was flawless from the very beginning—clear, timely and professional. The tour matched our brief perfectly; it was exactly what we were hoping for and more. This food tour was recommended by a friend who had organised the same for his company. I was a bit skeptical at first, not knowing what to expect, but he was so enthusiastic about how successful it had been—and how everyone preferred it to simply going to another restaurant—that I decided to give it a try. I’m so glad I did. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide. Knowledgeable, engaging and genuinely passionate, she brought every stop and every story to life. The food was absolutely delicious and of excellent quality, showcasing some truly memorable local flavours. Everyone loved the tour and kept talking about it for days afterwards. We are already planning the next one for our department’s team outing. Even as locals we are excited to rediscover our hometown, its hidden gems and the stories less told. Bravo Athens Bites — highly recommended!
Look no further. This is an excellent tour This was a fantastic tour that exceeded our expectations! The food at each stop was delicious and of truly excellent quality. The website promises the best places for the best bites, and it delivers 110%. The stories about the city and its cuisine were engaging and perfectly balanced, and the pacing of the tour allowed plenty of time to enjoy each stop, take it all in, and build anticipation for what came next. Eva was an exceptional guide. Her warm, kind, and passionate personality elevated the entire experience. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Athens!
This was absolutely fantastic. Full on worth the time and cost. Full on worth the walking and up to 4 hours. This is a tour of maximum 8 persons for those looking for an authentic Greek foodie experience with accompanying history behind the dishes tasted . Great day with a very knowledgeable guide, with a great mix of items to sample. LOVED IT!
The food tour with Katarina was one of the highlights of my vacation. We went to seven different places and the tastings were extremely generous portions! Not only did I learn about different foods from the vendors who make them, but Katarina is a wealth of knowledge about Greek history. She was able to explain the history of certain foods and how they came to Athens. This is a don’t miss experience.
We were so fortunate to do the 4 hour food tour with Katerina as our host and guide. KATERINA was a delight and made the experience most memorable taking us to local venues we would never have encountered and chosen on our own. HIGHLY recommend!
Amazing experience . Honestly, my wife and daughter wanted to do this more as I am in the food business. I was so wrong in she was an agent thank you very much.
Our group of five had an incredible experience today on our food tour! Valentini was so fun and extremely knowledgeable about the city, the food, the Greek history, the architecture - everything! She has our highest recommendation!
