It was great. Got awesome sunset pics and even a rainbow. Kids enjoyed the trip. If you go in Nov, take a jacket, it gets chilly and very windy.

Itinerary
We start our tour from the center of athens and start driving through the sandy beaches and seaside villages of the idyllic Athenian Riviera. We need 1 hour and 15 to reach Cape Sounion
We continuing passing and exploring the southern part of Attica we the magnificent coastline. Meanwhile you can explore the history behind each place with our audio commentary.
Stop for photos
We Easily reach the otherwise hard-to-get-to Sounion. You’ll be dazzled by the famous landscape that surrounds the promontory of the Sounion. In the times of the ancient Greeks, this site was revered as sacred ground dedicated to the gods Poseidon and Athena.
Marvel at the Temple of Poseidon perched upon the cliff’s edge 70 meters above the sea. Walk the blessed earth of the Sounion, one of the places sung about it in Homer’s Odyssey. Stand upon the same cliff where it is said King Aegeus threw himself off. The tale is told in Greek mythology that Aegeus told his son Theseus that if he defeated the Minotaur, he should return to Athens with ships bearing white sails. Theseus forgot this request, and when Aegeus saw Theseus’ black sails, he threw himself from the Sounion in despair. Watch the famous sunset over this legendary horizon.
We start to head back to Athens again. We need 1 hour and 15 min to reach the center.

Literally like travelling to the end of the earth. Stunning views and viewing an ancient piece of history is amazing.
We were sent in with a not so well trained non fluent English guide. He messed up the entry timing and announced that the Temple Poseidon will allow visitors till 1810 instead of 1710. We barely made it and had to grovel before the ticketing staff to let us in. There were other tourists who followed the guides instruction and were not allowed entry. Not a well organized tour.
Audio guide supplied by tourist guide was very informative on Greek history which I listened to on the bus trip to Temple of Poseidon On arrival after paying fee of 20 Euros took photos of the temple and surrounding areas including Aegean Sea then went to souvenir shop and bought a couple of fridge magnets Would recommend this trip to others
The perfect little half day tour to see the sunset with an amazing view by the ocean. Our guide, Tora was so so lovely!
It was basically a bus ride to the site, not much of a tour. Headset provided was limited with tour info and so was the bus personnel taking us there. Ride was average experience if you ever driven coastal areas before, few twists and turns. Driver was smooth. The site was ok, best part are the 5 star pictures we took surrounded by the water. Sunset was nice glow of orange, we had some clouds so not as nice as probably could be when clear. Not much time slotted. Arrived at 5pm and advised to come back to bus for 540pm. Sunset was 530pm. Overall guide Alice was friendly and helpful to address questions.
This is the most disappointing Viator I ever joined. The pick up was 20 mins late and upon arrival at Poseidon temple, it was 5 o’clock already. We were advised to use the restroom first because it will be closed after sunset. After lining up for 10 mins for restroom, the sunset was almost finished. We took some beautiful sunset pictures and then tried to enter the temple, only knowing that gate was already closed. However we had to wait for the bus to come back for returning to Athens in an hour. The only cafe and souvenir shop are closed already. We just stayed in the cold and dark outside. If they can adjust the starting time accordingly to the sunset hour, the whole experience will be much different. The guide did nothing all through the tour, just to pass out the earphones and let us listen to recordings. So only join when in summer when the sunset hours is earlier and longer.
We felt cheated by this trip. The bus was dirty and dilapidated, making a horrible noise at the back all the way there and back. The audio guides didn’t work so we didn’t get the information we’d hoped for. It was lovely to see the Temple but we felt missold and cheated by the quality of the service.
Don’t forget to buy tickets to get in and download the Hellenic audio guide. Great experience, wonderful views. Enjoyed ourselves
Most of the info was audio box . The leader didn’t give much insight. So as far as guided tour just ok.
It was a little chaotic at first with tourists joining us from the hop on hop off tours. But the tour guide managed this very efficiently, we were able to leave on time and enjoy the beautiful sunset at the Temple of Poseidon. The drive by the coast was beautiful.
Wonderful experience, the beautiful drive watching the coastline and arriving to the Temple of Posidon was breathtaking! Our guide and driver we fun and competent.
Sunset over the Temple was an incredible experience. The 20€ entry fee isnt worth it, its more scenic from outside.
It was somewhat unorganized and rushed at the end. It was a sunset tour and they were trying to leave before the sun set
Good bus ride. The meeting points were easy to find. The tour guide was nice. The bus was clean. The head sets were awesome
This is a beautiful place with great view and the temple is beautiful.
Site is uneven rocks so can be slippery. Enjoyed the evening and temple. It was windy. Had to leave just before complete sun set but it was worth it .
The guide was great and helpful however we did not stop at the lake on the way up for a photo which was one of the main things we were looking forward to. The headphones and iPod also stopped working on and off so my husband and I had to share. Overall lots of time up top to take pictures and see the sunset
Meeting location was easy to find and Theodora, our tour guide, was delightful. Kind, funny, and very informative sharing the story of how Athens got its name. Even though the weather was chilly and rainy, the storms broke just at sunset for a lovely view as well as a rainbow. Recommend especially if this is your only opportunity to see a sunset in or near Athens.
When we booked, we checked that the transport would be accessible but it was not. My wife struggled who has reduced mobility struggled to manage the 6 steps on the Grey Line coach and the driver was no help. The guide was more helpful but only to placate the driver. The Sunset View of the Temple was a non-event with thick cloud and rain. We appreciate the weather is uncontrollable but no effort was made to soften the disappointment. We had to stay and shiver until the bitter end when the sunset was meant to happen some 2 hours after we arrived. The only highlight was the views of the Athens Riviera on the way the Sounion in the daylight.
This trip was amazing… we really enjoyed ourselves and the sunset was beautiful. The tour guide and the little shop sold delicious snacks.
I don't understand why there was a guide, because she didn't provide any additional information only some details.
Very good tour guide but the pickup was very confusing! 6 or 7 other buses were there and they needed a sign showing their bus! Other than that it was fine!
Highly recommended attraction though the weather was cloudy, we couldn’t see the sunset. The tour guide Dimitris is nice and proffessional.
NO! Do NOT book this tour. What a disappointment. First of all, it took 2 1/2 hrs to get to the temple. We waited for 40 minutes to get on the bus. There were more than 50 passengers. When I asked, I was told there was more than one bus, but they wouldn’t load it until the other bus was fully loaded l making it even longer to leave. We had to stop for someone to use the restroom which made us miss our opportunity to stop and take a picture from a distance. The tour guide told us several times we would have time to stop. We arrived at 6:35pm and had to be at the bus by 7:35pm. It took 15 min to get our ticket scanned and barely saw the sunset. Then back to the bus. A complete waste of time and money. Absolutely not worth it. Book a private tour or rent a car. I have taken many bus tours and this why by far the worst and poorly advertised. It is NOT a 75 min bus ride, it was double that amount of time.
Lovely bus ride along the coast south of Athens to Cape Sounion. The experience of the Temple of Poseidon during a beautiful sunset was a wonderful initiation to our travels in Greece. Very helpful and friendly guide.
The tour departed late, so we only spent 70 minutes at the temple rather than the advertised 2 hours. This made it very tight for time trying to get something to eat there. Eating was not allowed on the coach so it wasn't an option to grab a takeaway sandwich. The coach used was very old and uncomfortable, with worn out seats and poor legroom. I was sat near the front and was concerned by the number of warning lights and messages on the dashboard. I have given 2 stars because this is an affordable way to reach the Temple (which is beautiful and well worth visiting) if you don't have any other alternatives
This was an expensive missold tour in my opinion. Audio guide given halfway through the journey so previous commentary lost. The audio very poor quality info. Cannot rewind. Different screen setup on different handset. No good commentary that was informative at all!. The tour lady said she was not a guide and not allowed to tell much! Also my friend arrived at the selected location (historic museum) as per the instructions and I showed the lady her text to say exactly where she was. I was assured that that would be our next stop which was wrong and my friends was clearly within the vicinity of the set location. She had to run almost half a kilometre to catch the bus at tge next stop. The driver was quite rude. Thete is no clear signpost as to where the tour starts and barely a board showing different tours with different operators and not necessarily showing Grayline tours. I had to ask a driver of another bus where I was to stand ( who was another rude guy!) All on all very poor experience and not worth the money. The scenic route is nice but one could just explore this on their own with Google and not need this tour! I am surprised if they genuinely had many 4 star reviews!
Dimitris was extremely helpful and informative and our bus driver Aris got us there and back with absolutely no issues at all. The temple and views are an absolute must!
A great way to see the Temple of Poseidon from Athens. The pick up and drop off points are centrally located and convenient.
Was nice one and nice sunset. The guid was good.
The Temple of Poseidon and Cape Sounion sunset tour was a wonderful experience. The tour begins after 4 PM, which is perfect because you can enjoy your morning and do other sightseeing in Athens before heading out for the tour. Our guide, Theodora, was fantastic and provided us with lots of interesting historical information about the Temple of Poseidon and the Cape Sounion area. We had plenty of time to walk around the temple, take pictures, and enjoy the beautiful views. The sunset was absolutely incredible and made the entire experience truly memorable. This is definitely a must-do tour when visiting Athens!
The trip was very well organized. The scenery was magnificent, we received a lot of interesting nfo from our guide Dimitris. Our driver, also called Dimitris, was very competent. I also have to mention the restaurant up there, The food was very, very tasty. All in all, a succes!
the tour went smoothly, we did not see the sunset as there was clouds in the remote part. We just had nothing to do in the afternoon of our last day in Athens. The tour did not have the value that I expected. Nothing there to see except a few marble columns.
Don’t just go to the Acrópole , Athens is very rich under different aspects / the history , the food and there is a lot to see and do
This excursion was well worth the bus ride! You could choose from three pick up points, so very convenient. At the meeting time, there was a guide there to ensure you were in the right place and easily scanned the tickets. On the ride, we were given audio sets to listen to information as you went, which was tied in to GPS so you didn’t need to push any button to follow along. At the site, we had free time, which was more than enough to explore and get some great sunset photos! The ride back was a bit chaotic to start as everyone is leaving at the same time, but the guide (Dimitris) and driver (Manos) were pros at keeping everyone informed and organized. Drop off was as easy as pick up. Highly recommend!
We thoroughly enjoyed the trip. It was a little chaotic at the start as we waited for the coaches but once we set off we enjoyed every minute. The sun shone obligingly and we took lots of photos. The berries and nuts ice cream was delicious! The drive in both directions was very beautiful and we were back in Athens for a late dinner. Definitely recommend😁
A trip for a twilight viewing at Sounion, booked with Viator, operated by Sights of Athens, where nothing went right … the promised (on the website) double decker bus with open upstairs seating was not as promised but a single decker bus ... 45 minute delay in leaving Athens with the bus arriving significantly late, then a lengthy and disorganised pick up at a second spot and with French speaking passengers having to be offloaded at the last moment … wifi on the bus didn’t work … very cold on the bus with overhead air vents that were broken and could not be shut off ... no guide commentary, just given a self-playing device, with drivel commentary and largely meaningless information, barely audible through trashy, useless earpieces … noisy kids two or three rows behind us, not sure what happened but punches and facial slaps were thrown between the row behind us and the row behind them, with police called ... but for my firm intervention, the driver was going to speak to the police on a handheld mobile whilst driving at full speed on a windy road (and when I looked away, he did anyway) .. off the bus, surrounded by smokers ... not permitted to eat on the bus BUT on a positive note the guide on the bus, Theodora, more an administrator than a guide, whom I would guess is a university student, had a sweet personality and a lovely smile, spoke excellent English and was sincere in her many apologies and so much better use could have been made of her AND regardless of those matters, the view at sunset is awesome
This was an amazing sunset - truly spectacular. We purchased the all inclusive version of this tour so it included admission to Poseidon's Temple. We were truly lucky as the night we went it was both a perfect sunset and there was a full moon. The reason I gave this tour 4 stars is because I was upset we had to leave right after the sunset and not get to capture photos of the full moon. I understand we paid for a sunset tour but it would have been extraordinary to photograph the full moon. Our tour guide / bus driver wanted to beat the traffic - which we did so we left right after sunset. I got what I paid for but I still left disappointed.
Overall the experience was wonderful, staff and driver were great! Unfortunately, there were some very noisy passengers for the entire ride back. No fault to the tour company but it would have been helpful for someone from the staff to say something.
Great end to an Athens day. If you’re tired from walking all day, you’ll be on a bus for an hour to an hour and 15 minutes. Take a nap and enjoy. You have plenty of time to grab food at their restaurant. Enjoy the scenery walk to the temple for sunset. Takes photos then walk back to the bus for another nap on your way back.
Great experience. Bus was comfortable and clean
Great Experience with the sunset through the Temple Amazing. The Coach Drive was very comfortable and Aircon, Highly recommended
Very well organized and great experience. The guide was very helpful and the Audio guide was good to have while traveling too. Sunset is amazing which makes the location a highlight.
Take water and walking shoes. You will be climbing through rocky uphill path. The view is amazing. Had a great time with the kids
It was a nice drive, and the sunset was so worth the trip. Alice was a very nice tour guide. We got to pass by different beach areas on the drive. The main course was the golden hour.
Had a terrible experience with the tour. Waited at the Plaka meeting point and asked the bus driver if this was the Poseidon tour and he rudely told us to wait on the corner. Thinking this wasn’t our bus, the bus leaves and we just wait. Called customer service and find out the buses already left. On top of that no refunds. Need better customer service and the guide needs to announce for last call.
Great experience with Alexandra and her toor guidelines. We're only disappointed from the traffic in way back and waiting time.
The audio guide was a bit iffy but the tour host was great and the bus was comfy. The temple itself is beautiful and worth seeing around sunset (though depending on timing you may not actually see the sun hit the horizon). Overall glad we went, though the drive back doesn’t have the same appeal as the drive out.
The Temple of Poseidon is a gem. If you're visiting Athens or holidaying in this part of Greece, the temple is a must see. Unlike in Athens, it's really quiet and unspoilt. But the best bit are the views across the Aegeon. Definitely Instagram worthy 😆. The cafe serves lovely ice cream too!
