Itinerary
The journey begins at the Acropolis, a monumental symbol of classical Greek civilization and a testament to the vision of Pericles, one of Athens' most influential statesmen. Pericles spearheaded an ambitious building program during Athens’ golden age, transforming the Acropolis into a showcase of unparalleled artistic and architectural achievement. Visitors pass through the ancient gates and admire the revered monuments, including the Parthenon, Erechtheion, and Temple of Athena Nike, which reflect the cultural and political advancements of Athens under his leadership. The Acropolis remains a beacon of classical thought, art, and democracy, influencing cultures worldwide.
The Parthenon, built in the 5th century BC under the leadership of Pericles, stands as a crowning achievement of classical Greek architecture. Dedicated to Athena, the goddess of wisdom and protector of Athens, the Parthenon exemplifies the artistic and cultural zenith of the golden age. Designed with remarkable precision, its proportions and sculptural details, created under the supervision of Phidias, embody the ideals of harmony and excellence. This enduring masterpiece reflects Pericles’ vision of Athens as a cultural and democratic epicenter.
The Temple of Athena Nike, situated on the southwest corner of the Acropolis, celebrates Athena as a goddess of victory. Built around 420 BC, this elegant Ionic temple played a symbolic role during the Peloponnesian War, embodying the Athenians’ hopes for success. Its graceful design captures the artistic refinement of the classical period.
The Erechtheion, an intricate structure on the north side of the Acropolis, honors both Athena and Poseidon. Known for its unique asymmetrical design and the iconic Porch of the Caryatids, this temple reflects the mythological and religious depth of ancient Athens. Constructed between 421 and 406 BC, it remains one of the most intriguing monuments on the Acropolis.
The Odeon of Herodes Atticus, built in 161 AD by the Roman benefactor Herodes Atticus, is a stunning theater on the slopes of the Acropolis. This well-preserved venue, still used for performances today, serves as a bridge between ancient Athenian traditions and modern cultural expression.
Hadrian’s Arch, a stunning Roman monument in the heart of Athens, marks the transition between the ancient city of Theseus and the new city of Emperor Hadrian. Built in 131 AD and made entirely of Pentelic marble, this iconic gateway stands as a testament to the blend of Greek and Roman heritage. As you pass by, admire the arch’s symmetrical beauty and its inscriptions honoring both Theseus and Hadrian. Set against the backdrop of the Acropolis, it remains a striking symbol of Athens’ rich history and cultural legacy.
The Temple of Olympian Zeus is an awe-inspiring structure once housing a colossal statue of Zeus, ruler of the gods. Construction began in the 6th century BC and was completed under Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century AD. This monumental temple, with its towering columns, reflects the grandeur of ancient Greek and Roman architecture.
The Panathenaic Stadium, built in 330 BC to host the Panathenaic Games, celebrated Athens’ dedication to Athena and its athletic spirit. Reconstructed in marble by Herodes Atticus and later hosting the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, the stadium remains a symbol of Athenian excellence and global unity.
The Presidential Palace, originally constructed as the Royal Palace, serves as the residence of Greece’s president. Visitors can admire its neoclassical architecture and may witness the ceremonial changing of the guard by the Evzones, dressed in traditional uniforms.
The Hellenic Parliament building, a neoclassical structure built in the 19th century, was initially designed as a royal residence. It now houses Greece’s parliament, symbolizing the country’s transition from monarchy to democracy.
Constitution Square: The vibrant heart of Athens, Syntagma Square is surrounded by historical landmarks, elegant hotels, and bustling cafes, serving as a central point of the city's modern life.
Mount Lycabettus offers panoramic views of Athens, including the Acropolis and the Aegean Sea. As the highest point in the city, it provides a serene escape to appreciate the natural and urban beauty of Athens.
The Academy of Athens stands as a masterpiece of neoclassical architecture and a symbol of knowledge, learning, and philosophy. Built in the 19th century, it was inspired by ancient Greek ideals and designed by the Danish architect Theophil Hansen. The stunning façade features intricate sculptures, including statues of Plato and Socrates, paying tribute to the city's intellectual legacy. As you pass by this iconic landmark, you’ll admire its timeless beauty and its role as a center for academic and scientific research in modern Greece, connecting the past with the present.
The University of Athens, part of the renowned Athenian Trilogy, stands as a masterpiece of neoclassical architecture in the heart of the city. Built in the 19th century, it reflects Greece's dedication to education, culture, and progress. With its grand facade adorned by Ionic columns and striking murals depicting scenes of knowledge and learning, the building symbolizes the nation’s rich intellectual heritage. As you pass by, admire the harmonious blend of classical elegance and historical significance that continues to inspire scholars and visitors alike.
The National Library of Greece, part of Athens’ iconic Neoclassical Trilogy, stands as a testament to the city’s rich intellectual heritage. Designed by Danish architect Theophil Hansen in the 19th century, this magnificent structure features elegant marble columns and a grand staircase that reflect its classical influence. Serving as a beacon of knowledge, the library houses a vast collection of rare manuscripts, historical documents, and literary treasures. A symbol of learning and culture, the National Library remains a must-see landmark for those seeking to explore Athens’ academic and architectural legacy.
Plaka, the oldest and most enchanting neighborhood in Athens, lies beneath the shadow of the Acropolis, offering a glimpse into the city's timeless charm. Known for its cobbled streets, neoclassical buildings, and vibrant atmosphere, this historic district beautifully blends ancient history with modern life. As you pass through Plaka, you’ll admire iconic landmarks, charming squares, and quaint alleyways filled with traditional tavernas, shops, and Byzantine churches. It’s a captivating journey through Athens’ rich heritage and culture, making Plaka a true highlight of the city.
The Ancient Agora, once a vibrant hub of public life in Athens, features notable structures such as the Temple of Hephaestus, one of the best-preserved temples of the ancient world. This site offers insight into the social, political, and religious practices of classical Athens.

Nick are driver was very flexible and adaptative to are family needs
Dimitrios was a wonderful tour guide for our trip around Athens. We chose the private tour as we were visiting in mid-July and knew it would be very hot - which it was! Dimitrios drove us to a multitude of amazing sites (including some lesser known, but equally beautiful sites) in air-conditioned comfort and was not only friendly and helpful but very knowledgeable about Athens, its culture, its people, and its history.
Very knowledge and took us to a couple extra special viewing spots.
Andreas was awesome. He took time to give us plenty of history on the sites we visited. He was on time and gave us recommendations for restaurants as well. We give him 5 stars!
Dimitrius our tour guide was beyond exceptional. Gave so much history and insight about Athens and his knowledge was very impressive. Highly recommend this guy as your tour guide!
Aris our driver was very knowledgeable and explained the history very well.
Jianis was an awesome tour guide. He helped with tickets, knew places that weren’t on the list which were amazing. He knew so much history about the different buildings and different areas of the city. I learned so much. We even found a shared love of music and enjoyed some in the car as we drove around. I feel like I made a friend and am definitely calling him when I am back in Athens. What a day!
Jiannis was amazing. Had the best day checking out the sites with him. I had some ticketing issues he helped me figure out. He was so knowledgeable and taught me more than I was planning to on Greek origins of many daily things we take for granted. He also took me to some amazing places I didn’t know about to see the city. We even found a shared love of some music and enjoyed it in the car. I would recommend his services to anyone looking for a great guide in Athens. I am definitely calling him when I come back.
Pericles did an amazing job. We saw all the cultural highlights of Athens and thoroughly enjoyed!!
Nick was our guide, knowledgeable and very kind. Excellent recommendation
Pericles is very knowledgable about Athens and Greek history. He’s good natured, chatty, flexible and informative. His driving skills are excellent. He maneuvered through very crowded, narrow streets, calmly and efficiently. The only reason it’s not 5 stars is that Pericles told us a lot about some of the sites and then sent us on our way to walk around on our own and take selfies. Wish he’d come with us (when it wasn’t a ticketed site and when he didn’t have to stay with the car), explained what we were looking at in the moment and taken a few pictures of us (as we saw other private tour guides doing). Perhaps other visitors are happy to wander off on their own, we would have appreciated his insights. Overall, we had an enjoyable and informative 4 hours in an amazing historic city.
Nick was absolutely amazing. He was very knowledgeable about the history of Athens. He customized the tour to our desired destinations. He was beyond courteous. He was very attentive. He patiently waited for us to tour heavily populated tourist sites. He also gave great advice to navigate the heavily populated areas. The Mercedes Sprinter was very clean, spacious, and luxurious. I strongly recommend others to trust Nick to give you the Athens tour of a lifetime. It was a phenomenal experience!
This tour was amazing. Pericles was an excellent guide! He was friendly, professional, and so knowledgeable! We saw so many sites and he shared excellent information about everything we saw and answered all our questions. He also customized the tour to meet our needs. I highly recommend this company and Pericles as a guide!
This was one of the best experiences of our trip to Greece. Our guide, Nick, not only was prompt but informative and fun!
Excellent tour with Nick. Very informative and organised.
Pericles was a great host for our trip to Athens after our cruise. He communicated very well with us before the trip and pickup was very easy. He showed us the highlights of Athens and gave us a great mix of Ancient Greece history while providing us with a better understanding of Greek history over the past few centuries. I would highly recommend if you are looking for a private half day tour of Athens.
Pericles is a fantastic person and wealth of knowledge. He modified the tour to our wishes, ensuring we saw everything of interest. We had kids with us and he catered to them, answering all the questions they had and connecting with their interests. The personal touch, the kindness, the storytelling all made this a magical way to get to know Athens and its history. Do not look for another tour. Book this one and book all local tours with Pericles.
Great experience with Periclius. We were able to see Athens in a day.
Dimitrios was an excellent tour guide. He was communicative, knowledgeable, and patient with us. The five hours we spent with with him gave us more than a glimpse of the culture and historic background of Greece, he gave us his personal experiences and answered all the many questions we had. Would highly recommend Dimitrios and this tour experience.
We had a wonderful half day with Theodore, who showed my family and I around Athens. Theo was very informative and flexible, catering to our needs throughout the day. The car was clean and comfortable and we all really enjoyed our experience!
Andreas is sooo knowledgeable about Athens and can make adjustments for special needs. We were mobility challenged at the last minute and already had plans booked. He adjusted and assisted us so kindly,I wouldn’t have guessed it was any different from our original plan. Book this vendor, you’ll be so glad you did!
Costas was very knowledgeable and personalable. He had a good sense Humor He made our journey fun safe and secure. He navigated difficult traffic situations expertly.
Great tour with Dimitrios today. He knows so much about Athens history and throws in some fun facts you would not find in a typical history book. Book this tour, you will not regret it!
We had a great time with our guide who was professional, friendly, and on time. Our vehicle was clean and well-maintained. We enjoyed each stop during the day and feel as though we saw the best of what the city had to offer.
Kostas is great! We had a wonderful time! He was very kind and informative. The van was comfortable and clean. Kostas showed us the most beautiful places in Athens and it was absolutely lovely and beautiful. His knowledge of history was also amazing.
FANTASTIC!! Our guide was friendly knowledgeable, funny and interesting. Incredible driver who managed tight narrow streets. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
This was our first time in Athens. We were in-transit on a cruise ship meaning we only had a few hours to see some high points of the city. Our guide was very sensitive to our needs, both from a time perspective and our desire for minimal walking and more photo ops. He knew exactly what to do and tailored the tour accordingly. Wish the vehicle (a Mercedes Benz sedan style taxi) had been a little more friendly to older folks as far as egress and ingress issues, but it all worked out. Our thanks again to Dimetrius for a professional job.
Giorgos, was great. He customized our tour because we wanted to see a couple of sites which weren’t on the tour. We got to the changing of the guard just in time.
We had a “wonderful” time with Pericles tracing Paul’s journey through the ancient city of Corinth! As a person who loves history, this was a very educational tour. Pericles is very knowledgeable of history so I had an amazing time learning!
Pericles was AMAZING!! Extremely knowledgeable about the history of Paul and Corinthian - he gave us so much detail that it was clear he knew his history! Loved the personalized attention and service - would HIGHLY recommend this tour!!
We had a great time on this tour Dimitrios was a great tour guide. He took us to see all the main sites plus a few extra sites. This tour is definitely worth it, because on your own it would take several days to see what we got to experience.
Demetrius was amazing he was very knowledgeable and could answer all our questions. He let us do a few extra events because we had e tea time, he never rushed us when we were site seeing
Dimi was an excellent and knowledgeable tour guide. He shared his passion for Greece and a wealth of historical and cultural knowledge with us. He was prompt and friendly when he picked us up at the airport and got us to our cruise port on time. We especially liked the highlights of places he loves on Athens in addition to the planned tour.
Tour was amazing. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable so glad that we did a private tour as opposed to a group we were able to stay longer if needed and/or move along more quickly………… Extremely personalized!
Kyriakos was a wonderful driver and guide, and it was a perfect private excursion from our cruise ship. He was flexible with the extreme heat and archeological site closings and limited tickets and found work arounds in the shade and AC. Would highly recommend.!!
Excellent tour. Was able to quickly see all the major sights and take lots of pictures from various vantage points all over the city. Pericles, our driver, was very knowledgeable and was able to maximize our time to see everything we could. His Mercedes was extremely comfortable. Highly recommend especially if it’s hot outside to prevent having to walk everywhere.
Pericles brought us to all of the historical sights described in the tour description and he shared his thorough knowledge that only a native can do. We enjoyed a wonderful day with Pericles and look forward to riding with him again in the future!
Amazing tour with an amazing tour guide! Pericles is knowledgable about Greek History and his tour was informative and entertaining. I highly recommend him for any of his many tour options!
The best was to see Athens was with Makis!! He had so much history to impart and had many personal anicdotes to make to experience so much more pleasurable! He took to places we wouldn’t have seen without his guidance. We just had such a great time! Thank you
Makis was wonderful. A good driver in this crazy traffic city. He knew history; he was pleasant; he had water for us; he had very good tips for us. He respected our time schedule.
Markis was in time and could not have been sweeter. He was very knowledgeable about Athens. He was good at getting us to where we needed to be and keeping us on time. We could not have asked for a better tour guide!
Great way to see Athens in four hours: from the comfort of a private car and with an excellent driver behind the wheel. Dimitrios explained the Athens history and gave us an easy to understand explanation for what we were seeing. He was entertaining and welcoming. We also had a ticket snafu but Dimitrios went out of his way to help us work around the situation. You will be in good hands if you book this tour.
Dimitrios was a fantastic tour guide, you could tell he was very proud of his city of Athens and he was very knowledgeable about the city’s history. He took us to all the highlight landmarks of Athens and gave us as much time to soak up the culture and landmarks as we wanted. Thanks Dimitrios for a wonderful and rememberable day!
What a pleasure to be toured around Athens. Pericles is so knowledgeable about history and all the monuments of the city. His Mercedes was smooth and comfortable. A very enjoyable day.
Car is a Mercedes wagon taxi which was very roomy and enough luggage room for 4 carryons and 1 checked bag. Our driver/ guide Dimitrios was very punctual and familiar with the points of interests that we collaborated very well on time spent and checked in to cruise ship terminal. Very good tour choice in Athens before boarding the ship.
Our driver Dimitrios is very punctual and informative throughout the tour. He knows exactly where to drop us off and pick up is best. We collaborate very well on time spent in each point of interest and made it on time for our cruise check in.
What an amazing tour! Pericles was a great host, good driver, and a very knowledgeable man. We visited most of the main sites of Athens, and we learnt such a lot. Pericles loves his job and is such a friendly man. We can’t wait to come to Athens again and do the Corinth tour!
