Meteora Thrones Private Half Day tour was incredible. We were provided with so much history of the area, taken to viewpoints that no one else was at, given suggestions to do with the rest of our time, and of course taken to three monasteries, with history along the way.

Our tour guide Christos was wonderful. He made the whole trip very personalized and comfortable. We highly recommend getting the private tour. Meteora is stunning and well worth the trip.
The tour was amazing. The connections in travel were a little short for comfort, but the guide was very helpful in making sure we made it back in time. Our private tour guide Nancy was extremely nice and knowledgeable. The stories she shared with us really showed her love of the job. She even helped us find a store to do some last minute shopping before the return trip.
This tour was one of the highlights of our holiday in Athens. My Mum (78yr) climbed over 100 steps to visit the 1st Monestery which was beautiful, the 2nd was too steep for her but the 3rd was only a short walk over a bridge so she came & saw that one also. The area was stunning & amazing to see. All 3 were beautiful & something that I have never seen before. Worth the 4hr journey to get there.
Our private tour of the Metiora site was guided by Christos. When we exited our bus from Athens at Meteor, Christos was just outside with a sign and we immediately got into his new Peugeut SUV. He took us on many tiny winding roads to tiny villages and sites of interest leading up to the monasteries, which the larger bus couldn't reach. Christos was gave an ongoing naritive of detailed information throughout. We had plenty of time at the 3 best monasteries, arriving well ahead of the large buses. (saving loading and unloading time and arriving just at the entrance) Getting into each monastery involved a long vertical treck up paths carved into and through the high rock formations that they are atop, as the monks did for centuries. At the end we had plenty of time for a hearty Greek dinner at a small family restaurant he knew. This was some of the best food, excellent tasty and tender octopus, of our entire trip. Meteora is arguably the most interesting part of upland Greece, and if you go by all means pay a bit more for the private tour -- and request Christos!
Stunning views, excellent guide with a lot of knowledge about each monastery we visited (3 out of 6). The only minus is that very long journey to get to Meteora from Athens but we can't move the mountains so we had to endure it :-) 100% recommendation of this agency and tour.
Our guide was wonderful. He showed us as much as possible in the time we had, was full of information , and got us to our bus right on time .
Excellent tour from Meteora Thrones. Chris was an amazing guide and he dropped us at a local spot for an amazing lunch. Train was cancelled due to track issues and the tour agency worked swiftly to find transport for us that fit our needs. I would highly suggest this tour. It is very unique, with the monasteries sitting high above on huge rock formations. You won’t see this in many places.
Christos was an excellent tour guide, very knowledgeable of the monasteries and the surrounding area. In our 4 hour window we were able to visit 3 of the 6 monasteries, more than enough, the rest we were satisfied with just seeing from viewpoints which Christos knew the best places for optimal viewing. Be prepared for the number of steps to visit, our first had 300 each way, 2nd had 200 each way, and last had 165 each way. The other most popular one closed on Mondays would have had significantly more. We were exhausted after the steps and the heat of the day, reaching 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Perhaps Sept would be a better time to visit according to Christos. Our private tour was so much better than the large tour buses, and we had much more info and I think we got to see more than if we had been on a large motor coach. I also suggest that if you want to do this tour from a cruise ship, consider doing from one of the ports closer to the area. We were only going to be in Athens this time visiting, our trip was 5 hours each way from Athens by train and bus, with 4 hours to visit the monasteries and surrounding UNESCO site.
Great place to visit. I would definitely recommend this tour. Well worth seeing. It was truly Amazing to see. The guide was very knowledgeable and friendly . He would offer to take pictures for everyone. He did a great job.
It was a wonderful private tour, well planned and efficiently executed. Maria was a storehouse of interesting information. We were taken to the 3 important monasteries and covered everything we wanted to see, in the limited time available. Thank you Maria and Nick and all the best. Highly recommended.
well organized tour, comfortable bus, driver and guide are professional and pleasant. Splendid experience, definitely recommend this travel agent
Excellent tour and Antonis was the best guide. He was very knowledgeable and went above and beyond our expectations.
This was a day I will remember all my life! While it was a five hour bus ride each way, the marvel and beauty of the monasteries was worth it. The sheer feat of architecture was breathtaking and the natural rock formations unparalleled. This is a must see when traveling to Greece. To miss this is like going to Arizona and not seeing the Grand Canyon!!!
I have to say that apart from the views and the amazing breathtaking monasteries, Clement and Dimitri were so nice, Clement is so knowledgeable he loves what he does, so passionate about his job, very funny, very caring about everyone excellent tour guide! Thank you for making our experience amazing and unique we love it!
This was one of the highlights of our Greece trip. Oue tour guide was Christos (sp) he met us at the train station when our train arrived. We immediately set off to tour the 3 monasteries they were absolutely breath taking. Christos took us to see all six but due to time limitations we could only see 3. He then took us to a restaurant in the center of Meteora. This was a perfect ending in Meteora. The good, bad and ugly of the tour: 1. Fantastic views of the monasteries. 2. The bad, makes for a long day, 4 plus hours on train bothe ways but well worth it. There really was no ugly. Advice would be to book 1st class on train.
The tour to Meteora was great. The clear directions-train station, schedule, tickets- were easy to follow. The only issue was the AC not working properly in the bus. It’s a must to have a bus in great working conditions during the hot weather.
We had a wonderful time in Meteora! Our guides were extremely flexible with how we wanted to spend our day even helping us shorten the day by 30 min and finding a quick place to grab food before getting on the train. It is a truly beautiful area! Must do! And a must do with Meteora Thrones!
The views were amazing and well worth the long train trip to get out there. We visited 3 monasteries and learned the history and culture behind them. Our guide Maria was excellent, meeting us from the train on time and explaining about the monasteries and areas in general. We had a group of 11 and everyone had a great experience. We were very lucky with the weather as expected rain held off till the end of the trip. This was certainly a day we will remember as a highlight of our visit to Greece.
Amazing & mythical place. The gods choose Greece for some reason 🙂 And the men choose Meteora for speaking with God.
The trip was very good organized. Train trio was replaced by bus from Athens but all went fine. We had a very nice weather and thus enjoyed unbelievably wonderful views. Driver Dimitri was driving us safely around the monasteries and guide Tim was explaining us about Meteora. The travel from Athens was long, but still it was really worth to do it to see this amazing place on the earth.
Loved our experience. Great guide and driver. I wish we had planned to stay longer in Kalambaka. We spent a bit to long on a train for a single day to and from Athens and wish we stayed overnight. Gorgeous area!
The place is excellent incredible views Time perfect for the activities Elena, the guide Is EXCELLENT, she knows very much about this place, good speaking in Spanish and English too.
We booked this trip at the last minute and could not have been happier. Arrangements were made for our transportation to and from Athens via the train. Be aware that one-way train ride is four hours so it’s a minimum of eight hours on the train. We were met at the Kalabaca train station by our driver and our guide and had our private vehicle for the afternoon to visit the area. We were able to have a guided tour in one of the monasteries and then also able to visit two other monasteries of the six that are in the area. Our driver and guide Took us to beautiful Vistapoint to take pictures and were sure to allow us time to grab a snack before we board the train at 6:22 PM. It was a long day however really worth it if you’d like to see this area of Greece is well worth the time.
Amazing! This was a super long day of travel but we’ll worth it, and splurge on the private driver. After being on a train for 4 hours it was delightful to have our own driver, made a quick stop at a little cafe (clean bathroom) then headed up to the monasteries. Learned a lot and got to go inside 4 of the 6 monasteries as we went through them quickly. (Apparently there’s always one closed each day). Enjoyed the private driver so we were able to go at our own pace and walk through between bus loads of people. Had a relaxed meal at a local restaurant before heading back to the train. Highly recommend, haven’t see anything like this elsewhere. Men were allowed in with shorts that covered their knees, women were offered wraps if they weren’t wearing modest skirts or shoulders were bare (sometimes just depends at who is selling tickets.) I wore a calf length dress with shoulders covered and was allowed entry. The sights are amazing, go see Meteora, it’s well worth it! Figure out metro ahead of time when you get back to Athens, taxis charging 3X the amount they were earlier in the day.
Enjoyed seeing the sights at Meteora. Our private car/guide/driver was excellent and well worth the price. First class train seat was lovely, but the return train arrived after 12 AM in Athens due to rail problems.
Amazing adventure! Train depart around 8am morning from Athens, it’s around 4 hours journey. There is small snack and coffee shop in a train. After we arrived in Kalambaka around 12 our lovely tour guide Ria was waiting for us. The car we did sightseeing was with ac, very comfortable. She had also water for us. As we decided not to take a break before sightseeing we went straight into Kastraki village to start the sightseeing. Ria was extremely polite, she told us absolutely everything and more than we could ever learn about place, history, monasteries and monks. She had a great knowledge, good positive vibe and patients to make us millions of pictures. Private tour was more convenient for us we didn’t have to wait for others, if we wanted to stop for pictures we did. We took our time in visiting monasteries without any time/ other people pressure. After all Ria has took us for lunch in a lovely traditional restaurant because we eat local when we travel. And around 6 pm we departed back to Athens. Make sure u book your trip ahead, might be not available last moment. Also way back is little bit tiring, train had some traffic delays so I took us more than 5 hours so I would recommend (if you have time) to stay a night in Kalambaka and go back next day. The level of hiking to monasteries is moderate, but if you do it slowly and have water with you, it will be okay.
Dimitris was our private guide for the afternoon. He was very knowledgeable and professional. We could not have asked for a better experience. Even had umbrellas when a torrential rain came and dropped us to a local Taverna for dinner before returning us to the train station. Very reliable tour company.
This private tour was amazing! Our private driver in meteora was Sakis. He was full of life and stories of the history of the area. He was born and raised there and it was evident he loves this region! Unfortunately we did not get to experience the train ride as our booking was on Greece, Labor Day and the trains were not running. The tour company arranged travel on a private bus for all the guests that day. I recommend scheduling on a day when the trains are running - as I think the experience is like better on the train. We would highly recommend this tour!
Interesting tour unfortunately the stop at the obligatory refreshment points do not leave much choice and especially the purpose at the refreshment near the meteor site and of very low quality for the rest guides exceptional coach and site.
Great place but it is done in one day instead of 2.... In 2 days it was redundant and we had a lot of expectations... otherwise I recommend but in one day!
Although the journey to Kalambaka station by train from Athens is long and makes several stops, we arrive with enough time to eat and then visit 3 monasteries. It was the top two and then the one just crossing a short bridge. Very nice inside, and the views are not even said. Our guide Kurt was very friendly and gave us good explanations. Recommended!
