Fabulous food tour of Athens! Our guide, Sappho, was entertaining and informative and brought us to some of the best providers of authentic Greek food. My mouth still waters when thinking about it! Highly recommended!

Itinerary
Begin with delicious crispy Greek pies prepared in a traditional bakery from the 1920’s. Made with layers of crunchy phyllo dough and steaming leeks (or spinach, or cheese), this local treat tastes best fresh from the oven.
Over the course of the tour, taste handmade moussaka with smoky eggplant, stuffed tomatoes, mageiritsa (a traditional lamb soup), soutzoukakia (Greek Smyrna meatballs), and the dessert from the ancient Olympic Games. Visit the vibrant Athens Central Market, where fishmongers sling shiny octopus and butchers sell the freshest lamb near rows of ripe local fruit and piles of walnuts. This is the center of the market neighborhood, and the best place to see how Athenians shop.
Each dish tells a story, and your enthusiastic guide will teach you about Greek traditions and culture. The most delicious way to learn is through authentic eating, and you will experience a side of Athens few visitors get to see.

Our guide was extrememly knowledgeable of the food and history of Athens. Her educational background was on Greek and ancient history of this region. She used this knowledge to explain the regions importance of olives, oil oil, and food to Greece. Athens had a great deal to offer for any foodie.
Mary Lou was our tour guide and she did an amzing job! This tour let you dive into some tastings from different local places that gave a true experience of the Greek cuisine. Our tour guide also showed us some more of the Greece area and explained some of the culture. This was unexpected and an added bonus.
We really enjoyed this food tour with Gari as our guide. It was just the two of us so we felt well taken care of and the discussion was really interesting and fun, combining the food, history, and culture of Athens. The quality of the food was excellent. I highly recommend this tour to do on day 1 or 2.
We had a truly unforgettable experience with Greeking.me on our recent food tour in Athens. My wife and I absolutely loved it! From the very beginning, everything was organized perfectly. We visited several different places — each with its own charm and unique taste — and got to try a variety of authentic Greek dishes. I wish I could remember all the names, but each one was delicious and felt like a real taste of Greek tradition. One of the highlights was a charming local coffee shop, where we enjoyed not only fantastic Greek coffee but also a peaceful moment that made us feel like locals, not tourists. What really made the tour exceptional was our guide. She was truly amazing — friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about Greek cuisine and culture. She created a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, shared interesting stories about the food and the places we visited, and made sure we were always comfortable and engaged. Thank you, Greeking.me, for such a wonderful experience! It was a perfect mix of flavors, culture, and warm hospitality. Highly recommended to anyone visiting Greece and looking to explore the country through its food.
This food tour was a great sampling of Greek foods. Our guide Niki was fabulous! What a special day.
This was one of the best things we've done. Our guide, Gari, was wonderful - so knowledgeable about Greek food, history, mythology, architecture, culture and politics. She set the tour at our pace and answered every question thoroughly. She was also very kind and warm - a perfect welcome to Greece! We did this the second day of a 2 week trip and it set us up perfectly for what to expect for the rest of our stay. She even let us know what to expect in Mykonos, Santorini and Crete. 100% recommend!
Niki was our guide and she was fantastic. She knew everything about the food and answered all of our questions. The tasting were numerous and plentiful. We learned so much about Greek food that we didn’t know and will change the way we cook at home.
So much fun! The ladies were knowledgeable and so much fun! This was the first thing we upon coming to Greece. Couldn’t have made a better choice. They personalized the experience for us. If you are think about it just do it. Great time and getting your bearings for the area with some good company!
The food trip with Manolis was absolutely fantastic! First of all, as this is a food tasting tour, it’s important to note that the food was absolutely amazing with a wide variety of sweet and savory. Manolis is super informative and even though it was a food tour he gave us so much information about the historical monuments along the way and recommended more places to visit. He also recommended a list of food places to try on our own time. Don’t eat breakfast before this tour as the portions are great and very filling!
We met with Maria in the square. Maria was extremely welcoming and friendly and made us feel comfortable from the beginning. Our tour to the coffee shops and specialty halva dishes in a plant based diner was the best halva we have ever had. At all times Maria explained the Greek culture and the people in the area. The meat, fish markets were very interesting and our dishes tried along the way to lunch and her experiences and explanations were very helpful. Lunch in a local eatery was a highlight as it was where the locals eat and not a touristy restaurant. When we were unable remember our Ship Docking gate… Maria calmly made a call and sorted it all out and then took us to a Greek yogurt Speciality stop and then to our Taxi. Thank you Maria for making our stop in Athens the most special ever !! You were terrific
Loved this tour! Was very interesting and offered so much delicious bites we were stuffed! The guide was amazing! I would highly recommend this as a sight seeing and tasting tour!
Our foodie tour was outstanding. Niki our guide was so knowledgeable and explained the origins, cultural heritage, purpose, nutritional value and so much more about everything we ate and drank. I have been to Athens six times and have Greek heritage, so I thought I knew a lot about Greek food, but this tour taught me so much more. So, whatever your background, you will lave this tour.
We highly recommend this tour and tour provider. Tour was personalized and covered ground we would never have discovered or learned on our own.
We take a trip to a European city for around 12 friends each year, and typically arrange a heritage or foodie walking tour. This was a combination, and undoubtedly the best we've experienced across maybe 20 years. Mini was an excellent guide, and we stopped at seven different locations to sample substantial quantities of local specialities and opportunities to speak with the owners. Everything was top quality and provided a great insight into Greek cuisine. When you read the communication from Greeking.me it tells you not to have a large breakfast - make sure you follow their advice
We had a fabulous time with Eugenia as our foodie guide on this tour! I especially appreciated the stories she told about the food we tasted as we strolled through various Athens neighborhoods. My favorite tastings were the Greek coffee, koulouri, loukoumades, Greek pies, cheeses, and Greek yoghurt with honey. Unfortunately, moussaka was not on the tasting menu. Would love to have that included in future food tours. I also liked that we visited small, family-owned businesses and got to know their story about their shops as well. Supporting small businesses is very important to me. Eugenia was very attentive and made sure we comfortable at all times, especially at the Central Market. All in all, my husband and I truly enjoyed the food tour and the conversations we had with Eugenia about life and food. This is a must-do tour if you really want to experience the heart of Athens through its people, food and culture.
The foodie walking tour was so great - we thoroughly enjoyed it. Penelope was wonderful and shared interesting facts and stories with us. She was so kind to the kids, which made it a happy morning for all of us, we were even surprised at all the new things they tried. We loved walking to all the spots and meeting all the people and places where local Athenians shop. The highlight of our trip to Athens
We had a terrific private food tour. Our guide was charming and interesting. We loved all the food and enjoyed the conversations we shared with our guide during the tour. The time flew by. There was a nice mix of walking and sitting while enjoying the food . We never felt rushed and loved the interaction of our guide with the owners at each of the stops. She had bits of personal information about each which we thoroughly enjoyed. Five years ago we had a great food tour in Athens with Greekingme. We think this one might be even better.
The food tour with Greeking me was the highlight of our visit to Athens. Our guide, Penelope, took us to 8 stops which were all amazing. We tasted everything from Koulouri to vegetarian moussaka. Don't miss this tour if you go to Athens.! Marcia H
Our guide, Max, was entertaining, knowledgeable, and also very responsive to our preferences. If I could do it all over, the only think I would do differently is to make this the first tour of a visit to Athens-- it would have helped us throughout our visit. ALhtough the primary focus was food, we also felt on this tour that we really got a good "taste" about the city of Athens. While we enjoyed our private tours of the attractions, this walking tour helped to "connect the dots". I've always believed that a food tour is the best way to get to know a city and culture, and this should be an indispensible part of anyone's itenerary. Also, by FAR, our best dinner in Greece was at a place that Max recommended. I'd also point out that, when he heard we hand't yet seen the changing of the Guard, he altered teh end of the tour to lead us there, with instructions on getting back to our hotel.
This tour was one of the highlights of my trip to Greece. Max, our tour guide was phenomenal! His knowledge, warm personality and ability to make us all feel so welcomed - was extraordinary. He took us to great restaurants and the food was amazing! Greeking-Me is lucky to have Max on their staff as he is truly a gifted guide! Thank you for a wonderful evening!
Eleni, our private guide, spoke perfect English and took us from a food cart for traditional koulouri or sesame, round, snack bread to lunch at Ipeiros in the fish agora where celebrity chefs have eaten. For good reason. The food was delicious. I highly recommend this tour with Eleni. She paced the tour well and was lovely to us and our sons, ages 15 and 11. It was worth every euro.
We booked a private food tour with greeking.me and had Penelope as our guide. She was absolutely outstanding. She was extremely professional and knowledgeable... not only about the food we were eating but also about the history of Greece and Athens itself. It was so nice to haven open dialogue to get a really in depth view of the city and its culture - Penelope made you feel like you were roaming the streets with a friend. While we knew were going to eat, make sure you come hungry! You definitely get your money's worth in food. We tried a variety of items: thessaloniki, spanakopita, REAL feta and Greek yogurt, olives and loukoumades. We also stopped by a local deli and sampled an amazing charcuterie board, as well as, eating at a small restaurant in the heart of the meat market to sample some traditional local dishes. At the end of our day, Penelope took us to a restaurant for some Greek coffee that has an amazing view of Acropolis. A perfect end to an amazing day! Keep in mind that this is a walking tour and while we did a good amount of walking, it was definitely nice to walk off some of the food between our stops. Would definitely do again and will recommend to others.
My friends and I absolutely loved the food tour! We had amazing food, a great historical tour in the city, and a wonderful guide! We recommend it 100%!
Our foodie tour was a great way to start our Athens vacation. Penelope, our guide was excellent. She's warm and engaging. She was soooo good to our boys. We learned so much Greek history from her. The shops we visited and the food we ate were all locals' favorites. The tour went longer than expected just because we were having so much fun with each other. Thank you, Penelope!!
We try to do a tour like this in most of the places we travel to and find it is a wonderful way to experience the food and culture with a local guide. In Athens our guide, Eleni, was exceptional. She was knowledgeable about history, food and politics and shared it all with us as we wandered through some places we would never have discovered on our own. We tried many foods we never discovered on a previous trip to Greece, including the spicy pastrami, loukoumades, the cheese soaked in olive oil, and my favorite - kafteri dip. The size of the group was perfect - 10 people including Eleni. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who is curious about Greek food and willing to walk, talk, laugh, learn and eat for 4 hours.
My wife and 2 of our best friends booked the Private Athens for foodies tour. Our guide Tiama was the perfect host and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. There was more than enough food that we were unable to finish everything at each stop (and I am a big eater), there was variety of food/drinks and a willingness to accommodate any culinary requests (i.e. vegetarian). The private tour for the four of us was 300 euro and went for close to 3 hours, the walking pace was comfortable and the conversation easy. Note: Nobody needed a meal after this tour!
Had a perfect day with Eleni , our tour guide on a private food tour in Athens . She was so knowledgeable and accommodating to our interests and walking pace. The amount of stops and food choices was overwhelming- much more than we expected. In fact we couldn't finish all of the samples at the last stop and deferred the steak sampling as we were too full. Even got to see interesting Graffiti art . Highly recommend this tour . Was a highlight of our visit to Athens.
