This was a terrific way to see the city of Athens. No crowded buses. Our driver / guide, George, was a native of Athens and knew everything about the city, its history, the best restaurants, sites etc. There was no wasted time. The day was spent commuting from one amazing location to another.

Itinerary
An ultimate city tour experience with onboard guidance & tickets of the Acropolis site from the port of Piraeus to the historical center of Athens; the birthplace of democracy and the philosophy of Socrates and Plato.
Experience Athens as a true insider! On this half-day tour, you will have the opportunity to explore and discover the city treasures of the past and of the present hassle free as your tickets to the Acropolis site are included. From Dionysiou Aeropagitou Str, walk up to the Acropolis site and see the principle buildings, such as the Propylaia, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion with the famous Caryatid Statues and the magnificent Parthenon.
Enjoy your free time in the district of Plaka - as the name itself reveals, "the old". It is the most beautiful district of the historical center, which is located nearby and ideal for shopping and tasting the local cuisine. At the ancient Greek Agora (marketplace), do your shopping as did the ancients, following in the footsteps of Socrates, before heading back to the port.
Upon arrival to Athens, enjoy one of the marvels of the historical center, the marble Panathenaic Stadium that hosted the first modern Olympics in 1896. Feel like Olympic athletes as you capture a picture of the moment.
Visualize the Roman aspect of Athens as you pass in front of The Hadrian Arch of Triumph and The Temple of Zeus. Continue to all the ancient and modern hotspots of Athens. The Syntagma Square, in the heart of the city, hosts The Greek House of Parliament. In previous centuries, this was the Royal Palace, surrounded then and still today by the National Gardens.
Jump from the past to the present with the Catholic Cathedral and the famous Athenian Trilogy on Panepistimou str. consisted of The University of Law, The Academy of Science and The National Library; the masterpieces of the so-called Neoclassical movement.
A short stop for photos in front of The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Presidential Guards is a MUST! Wait a few minutes to see the changing of the guards, truly an impressive custom.

This was a wonderful excursion. Our driver was excellent and full of information about Athens. He was prompt, very friendly and accommodating. This was a private tour with me and my husband. George is an excellent driver and we had a wonderful time. Would highly recommend this tour.
We enjoyed a private tour in Athens. Our certified tour guide Ioanna was amazing! A local that is knowledgeable and passionate! She was flexible with our itinerary and made recommendations that enabled us to see everything we had hoped to see! She kept us on track in terms of timing so that we could enjoy all the sites we had planned including a city tour, Acropolis, the new Acropolis museum and free time in Plaka where we enjoyed a light lunch before heading back to the cruise ship! I originally booked the tour without a guide but was glad that we changed it to include Ioanna as the experience was much more informative and learned a lot about the history and culture. I would highly recommend this tour and the team at The Travel Insiders that helped me with my itinerary and answered all my questions! Fantastic customer service and a pleasure to deal with.
Our tour with Ionna and driver, Alexander. Of the Acropolis, Plaka shopping area and city tour was wonderful, They met us on the dock in a luxurious and comfortable limo. The explanation of the mythology and history of Greece was fascinating. I highly recommended this tour.
Our tour guide, George Kappis, was terrific. He was extremely knowledgeable and his English was excellent. Communication before and during excursion was through WhatsApp. He was professional and personable. It was an exceptional tour!
The amazing history we heard about and viewed. Although Viator, not the tour operator, sent us to the wrong pick up location. Stressful start but the guide and driver made up for it by being so helpful and determined to find us.
Our guide Vicki was wonderful and informative. She was very attuned to our group's needs and allowed us time to sit in the shade periodically since it was so hot out. When we toured the Parthenon and Acropolis, it was over 100 degrees F out, and she was so great about making sure our group members were getting shade and rest. She provided lots of information and was responsive to our questions and inquiries for different things.
A very good and information driver who made sure we saw all the sites. However Skip-the-Lines, only means you skip the lines to purchase the tickets not enter the sites, we experienced very long lines.
Our tour guide, Ioanna, and driver, Alex went above and beyond what was expected. First the tour itself was wonderful with great information. At the Acropolis, my wife was unable to climb up and Ioanna and she sat and waited for the rest to return. Unfortunately, someone stole my wife's backpack from behind her - contained her shipboard card and her passport, among other items. Ioanna and Alex were great in getting us to police station and to U S. Embassy to obtain an emergency passport - at least 2 additional hours for each of them. Such kindness and helpfulness.
Awesome experience! Our driver and guide was George and I honestly don’t think we could have gotten a better tour!! George was extremely knowledgeable and extremely accommodating to the sites we wanted to stop and see. Highly recommended!!
Having a personal guide to show us the city was the best thing we could've done! Our guide, George, had a modern Mercedes all electric car. It was great to be able to keep our bags with him as we just finished a cruise. Can't rate this trip high enough.
Our tour guide, George, was terrific! My disappointment results from the fact that the tickets provided by the tour operator did not work to get us in to the Acropolis. We stood in line for over half an hour to get in... it turns out the "skip the line" access is only to skip the line to buy tickets, not to skip the actual line to get in, which was not worth the extra cost because we could have "skipped the line" ourselves by buying tickets online... which is what we ended up doing since the tickets they gave us did not work. It took about 40 frustrating minutes trying to figure out all out though, standing in the hot sun, which was that much less time we had to see the actual place, so we hurried through it. Loved George... but not the tour operator experience.
This was an outstanding tour. Our driver Costas was very accommodating and knowledgeable. His communication with us during the tour stops was on target and his photography skills made our photo “ops” memorable!
Our guide was knowledgeable kind and enthusiastic we could have asked for a better driver and guide very compassionate
We had a great tour of Athens. We were met early by George our driver/ guide. He spoke excellent English. He gave great commentary throughout and got us to the sites at exactly the right time. There was a problem at the Parthenon in they wouldn’t accept our tickets( they had stopped virtual queues and express pass) George was able to contact the office and sort it out. For a time it was confusing but it all worked out. George gave us some free time in the old town and then took us to our hotel at the airport. It was my first experience using Viator and I’ve already booked my next tour. Great reliable service and for two female seniors it felt very safe.
We enjoyed this private tour. The key is to be there early like they requested to. We liked that we skipped the long lines and the crowds because we were early. We were a little bit late getting off our cruise ship. Our tour guide was rushing thru the tour, leaving us a little time to take pictures
Despina was great and they met us right at the port. Lots of cold water and a wonderful air conditioned van. The guide was fantastic! Highly recommend!
We recently did this shore excursion to Athens and the Acropolis. Our tour guide was excellent and very knowledgeable. The Acropolis is extremely busy but fascinating and the drive around the city was great.
We had a last minute cancellation on our flight from Athens to Rome and had to take an earlier flight than expected. Our tour guide was amazing and picked us up early from the Cruise Port and we were able to see the most important sites before we had to leave. He was amazing and full of information. When we go back to Greece we will look him up and use him again.
Of course the Acropolis and ruins were amazing but our guide made them come to life. Hearing the history behind each temple and statues made our trip complete. Absolutely schedule this tour and our guide Nikolous!!!
Despina met us right in front of our cruise ship right on time. She was very friendly and knowledgeable, telling us about Athens as we drove. She had confirmed with me in advance as well, very professional. We were taken straight to Acropolis and met our guide, Maria. Maria is a government sanctioned tour guide for the Acropolis. She is very knowledgeable and had nice visual aids to go along with what she was talking about. However, our group included 5 children ages 10-15. Maria launches into a monologue and pretty much doesn’t stop for 2+ hours. It really got to be a bit too much and too long, particularly in the sun. Also, it’s a lot of Greek mythology, which I’m far less interested in vs actual Greek/Roman history and modern Greek heritage. It was very hot (and crowded) and the kids were languishing. We all were. Maria is great, but not that great at “reading the room”. Or maybe she is compelled by the government to say everything (and then totally repeat it several times). We stopped for a lunch and some shopping in Plaka. I would have preferred less Acropolis and more Athens, to be honest. The bus is very nice and the driver was wonderful as well. It’s a good way to see Athens but it’s A LOT of the Acropolis. Not sure I recommend this tour for families with kids younger than ours, definitely recommend for adults interested in full history of Acropolis.
We had a great experience in Athens. We were picked up on time in a very nice vehicle at the port for the five of us. Our tour guide (we think here name was Helen) made sure to get us to the Acropolis early to avoid the heat and crowds and gave us really great information about the site. She was friendly and warm and patient with my two teen daughters. After we were taken to a nice area where we had a wonderful lunch. If you are worried about Athens being crowded, I highly recommend this tour.
Great way to see the highlights of Athens during a cruise ship stop. Elena our guide was fabulous- knowledgeable and professional. The driver was outstanding as well in some crazy Athens traffic. Plenty of time to explore Plaka and have lunch. This is a small group tour so you probably will be with others and if they are late, so are you
This was a stop on a cruise, so time was limited. It takes awhile to get around by car, it's very crowded. Our guide was very nice. Walked to the top to see the ruins. It's a long walk to the top, but worth it. We opted to just drive by the changing of the guard and not stop for the +15 minutes it takes. The last stop was the farmers market type area. We opted to sit and have a snack while our friends shopped. We had the local beer and wine, both were good and fried feta with honey which was outstanding!
Tony was waiting for us at the port and he did a great job of getting us to the Acropolis before the crowds and heat set in. He also showed us all the great tourist attractions without major crowds and in good locations. He then took us to a great spot for lunch. I would definitely recommend this tour.
Great way to see the highlights of Athens, mainly Acropolis and Plaka. This was a shore excursion, and the guide was on time waiting for us and our group. We were transported in a private air conditioned van. Although the traffic in Athens was crazy, we reached our destination with ample time to see the main attractions. Our guide was very informative about the history of Athens as well. Overall, this was a great way to see the highlights of Athens in about 5 hours.
We used Travel Insiders for this tour for eight persons and I cannot say enough about how professional they were. The Guides which we used in three ports were amazing and very passionate and informing about the sites and their amazing country. Despina the General Manager handled all of the bookings and was great to work with. We paid half of what the ship wanted and saw more. info@the-travel-insiders.com
We booked tours with Travel Insiders for our 3 ports of call off our cruise ship. Despina met us at our first stop in Athens, and introduced us to our tour guide Maria. We had an excellent tour in Athens, going first to the Acropolis to beat the crowds and the heat. Elana met us in Santorini, and introduced us to our tour guide Eliza, who showed us around Oia and took us to a wonderful wine tasting, and the black sand beach. Both sisters met us in Katakolon, where Elana served as our tour guide thru Olympia. All tours were very well coordinated with excellent communication beforehand. I’d highly recommend any tours with this group!
