Loved the location of Hotel Dopliani. The tours were great. Only negative was we were crowded in the back seat on the long ride to Delphi.

We did the first 2 days in Meteora, with the 3rd 1/2 day in Delphi. The pickups were all very organized and timely. Meteora was fantastic, with the first day in a small bus with stops all over—the rocks, a monastery, a very old Byzantine church, and a sunset viewing on the rocks. Our guide was informative, funny, and very energetic. The second day was an expertly guided hike up the hills with dramatic rockscapes all the way up; culminating in a visit to the largest monastery. I stayed at the Stone Forest guesthouse in Kastraki, which was lovely—great restaurant there, too. Besides the planned activities, there was also plenty of time to explore the village on my own. My only complaint was the 3rd day didn’t leave us enough time to explore the Delphi site. We arrived there at 1:00, and had to be back for the (only) public bus to Athens at 4:00. The site is very extensive with knockout views; 3 hours wasn’t enough! I didn’t even have time for the Archaeological Museum. I would suggest that the bus leave Meteora earlier in the morning, and not bother with the Thermopylae stop on the way. With those changes the experience would be perfect.
Overall a great experience. We did the 3 day, 2 night budget hotel version, but in retrospect would have done the 2 day, non-budget option. - Bus coach up to Meteora (~4 hrs): comfortable, nice bus. Makes stop about 1.5 hours in at a charming small coastal town. - Meteora hotel (Hotel Meteoritis in Kastraki): budget option was pretty bad, there was no staff available at the hotel and therefore could not check in or leave our bags, room is sparse but at least clean. Unless you are really tight on budget, would NOT choose this option. - Meteora sunset tour (~4-5 hrs): This was excellent! One of the best guided hikes we've ever done. Minimal car riding, you are constantly getting on/off the shuttle to see things, walk around, see the monasteries. - Meteora hike (~4-5 hrs): Also good! Small group about 10 people. Our guide Kris was so friendly and knowledgeable and is from the area so is truly expert about Meteora and the surrounding areas. Easy/moderate difficulty, some parts were steep, overall shaded path, rocky. Start from ground level and hike all the way up to the biggest monastery. We wore regular sneakers, would NOT wear sandals. - Delphi tour: Self-guided tour so limited information. The sights are really cool and the museum also fascinating. Would have been better with a guide. - Bus back to Athens: this is a public coach bus. Be prepared to mingle with local Greek people and may have to stand for part of the ride until a seat opens up.
Meteora was our favorite place we visited during a two week vacation in Greece; highly recommend this tour, then, especially if you do not have a car. The tour guides were also wonderful. Be sure to read carefully everything shared with you. The Delphi day is—essentially—self guided with a driver getting you to the site (you get access to a downloadable audio tour). You will also go “in and out” of other tours so do not be concerned if you feel like an outlier (eg, we were the only ones with luggage on the first bus). The only thing I would have changed was the location of our hotel. We opted for the more expensive one which was not near town/food. Food—in general—was later than expected on day one due to both this detail and the sunset tour going from 4-9.
Excellent service provided. We did the two tours (sunset and half day) and were very happy with Chris and Henry, especially. The company is always reachable and they went with my change of plans without a problem. Highly recommended
I was afraid to do it since ive never had done a 'tour' before. But it was an amazing experience. I did it solo but it was nice meeting random people from different countries. The 2nd day hike was my favorite as it was only the guide, another solo girl and me. we did encounter anyone during the whole hike which made it more peacfule hah and the guide was so good as he was friendly and very knowledgable, i think his name was Christos. In general it was great, all the staff were nice, and our guide on the first day, Jim, was amazing, friendly, and funny. The hotel was the 'premium' one which i did not really understand why it's 'premium' but i believe because it was in the Kalabaka not in the city center. Kalabaka is a very pretty and small village so i was glad i got this hotel.
I had the best time in Meteora and Delphi thanks to the great organisation of logistics and fantastic guides by Visit Meteora. Maria was my guide for the sunset tour and even though the weather had other plans for us, I could go on listening to Maria's sharing about Meteora and the monasteries sprinkled with stories from her childhood! I love her storytelling! On the second day, we went on a hiking tour led by Christos. Perfectly paced, scenic views, and an experienced guide who definitely knew the flora and fauna of Meteora like the back of his hand. Couldn't have asked for a better hiking experience - I highly recommend this option. Day 3 was rather light, with a drop-off a Delphi and free and easy time to explore the town and archaeological museum on our own before meeting back for KTEL bus to Athens. For a tour with mostly AM/half-day activities, I do think it slightly misses the mark in terms of value / for the price paid but I suppose other tours are rather similarly priced. Wish there was a guide for Delphi as well, but I don't regret having booked this either way! Cheers!
Wonderful guides and incredible sites! Thank you.
This 3-day tour combining Meteora and Delphi was hands down one of the best experiences of our trip! Everything was perfectly organized from start to finish, making it completely stress-free. Meteora was absolutely breathtaking. The sunset tour was magical, with incredible views as the sun set over the rock formations. The hiking tour the next day was a highlight—peaceful, scenic, and full of hidden spots you’d never find on your own. The transfer to Delphi was smooth and comfortable, and visiting such an iconic historical site added a whole new dimension to the trip. It felt like the perfect combination of nature, history, and authentic local experiences. The guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and truly passionate about what they do. Small group size made everything more personal and enjoyable. If you’re looking for a complete, well-balanced experience in Greece, this tour is an absolute must. Highly recommended!
From pickup in Athens to Meteora through drop off in Delphi this tour was excellent! The bus ride from Delphi to Athens was terrible! The bus ride from Delphi to Athens was 25 minutes late to pickup, and then stopped for more pickups, then soon after, the bus driver took a 20-30 minute break. On arrival to Athens he stopped a few times to drop off, then we arrived at Bus Terminal about 7:45 instead of scheduled estimated time of 6:30. All of this while we were sitting in assigned seats so close together I couldn’t move my feet and no fan or air conditioning. The bus ride on Visit Meteora bus from Athens to Kalambaka was roomy and pleasant! The tour vans were pleasant. The 2 different tour guides, Jim and Dmitry, were informative, pleasant, and helpful! The driver of the minivan that took one other couple from our hotel to Delphi was a good driver needed to drive windy mountains. I would not recommend this 3 day trip. I originally had 2 different tours, 2 days to Meteora and 1 day Delphi. I had wanted to spend less time on the road and thought this would be better, but now know it wasn’t.
This trip was very well organized. All the personnel including, the buss drivers and the guides all had full control of who were going where and what was going to happen next. The guide we had on day one in Meteora was very knowledgeable. Delphi It was one annoying thing about Delphi. When we bought tickets to the museum and the archeological site, we were forced to visit the museum first. This is not the fault of the tour operator, the museum only.
We are actually only due to go in May, however I wanted to highlight the excellent service of Dino Halilovic in the Reservation Department. Impeccable service!
Excellent experience, everything well organised with very nice guides. Very easy to contact the agency to ask any doubts. I recommend the sunset tour and the hiking, another way to know Meteora.
There were two big issues with this trip. The first is that the return trip is on a public bus. Basically, the driver dropped us off at Delphi with bus tickets and said bye. The company rep I reached out to on day 1 said the driver would show us around delphi but that didn't happen. The tour description did mention the delphi site was free time so that part wasn't a big deal. When booking, it was not advertised that the return trip was on a public bus, with stops and pickups along the way making the return trip much longer. Be sure to dig into the FAQs and the emails post booking because that's where/when you're informed about a public bus. The other couple with me was also expecting to be returned to Athens in the same tour bus we departed Athens in and were just as frustrated. The other issue was the driver that drove us from Meteora to Delphi was an aggressive and dangerous driver. He was staring people down as he passed them, flashing lights and speeding in very wet and rainy weather. Normall, I wouldn't care and I get he has a timeline to meet but safety should take priority in those conditions (with passengers). Nice guy, though, he did rush us at the Leonidas statue stop. He also did not speak English which made everything more confusing with the bus situation. The other people had the same concerns I did. It seems like there weren't enough people booked to justify using their own vehicles so they bought public bus tickets instead. This was compounded by farmers strikes and police blocking roads so it took us nearly 5 hours to get back to Athens from Delphi when it should have taken less than 3. That isn't the tour operator's fault but that plus the normal stops a public bus makes was rough. The initial bus would have been far more comfortable and would have had no stops (at least). If you don't mind public transport, save some money and take it both ways and just book a tour for when you arrive. That was day two. The first day was better but the trip was advertised as a max of 18 people but the bus was loaded with closer to 40. There were at least 3 different groups of people that booked different types of tours as we were separated after getting to Meteora. After the bus, we switched to a more comfortable van with a small group. We only got to visit one monastery but it was a nice tour and Meteora is incredible. My suggestion to the company would be just to be transparent about all of this. It seemed misleading in multiple ways. Many people would still book anyway but others (like that couple and I) would just look for a better fit which is fine.
Meteora portion of trip was good although admittedly it did feel like the price was high for what we got (it was 230/pp without hotel while a day trip to meteora is currently 59/pp). Transfer to Delphi was another story and why my rating was so low. The two of us were transfered with another couple in a 5 seater car so it was a tight squeeze. Unlike the rest of the trip, the driver spoke very little English so the stop in Thermoplye was pointless beyond a bathroom trip as nothing was explained. Additionally, despite the listing saying we would be told where in Delphi we could leave our items, the place they wanted was closed (extremely unprofessional for them not to check ahead of time if its something they say they will do) so we were dropped off with our luggage at the delphi site with no info on what to do with our things. The driver just smiled politely when i asked what to do with our things and left. In the rain. I emailed the office for visit meteora and got a nonchalant response about how yeah sometimes things are closed at this time of year and I could lug my stuff back to town 10 minutes in the rain and ask around at certain restaurants to see if they could watch my things... additionally the bus stop the non english speaking driver pointed us to was the wrong direction and if we had not asked others we might have missed our bus.
So glad we booked this trip. The Visit Meteora team where exceptional in setting out the itinerary, seamless pick ups and drop offs in very comfortable vehicles, great accommodation (Stone Forest in Kastraki) brilliant Meteora guides (Vangelis and Andreas were really engaging, humorous and knowledgeable), remarkable views which our guides stopped at and fascinating to explore the monasteries. Great to stop off at Thermopylae en route to Delphi: somewhere we’ve wanted to visit for years and absolutely loved it. It inspired a couple of poems: Meteora Ancient sediment fractured and eroded Shifting millennia of columns decoded Alien elephants suspended in air Pedestals of wonder whispering prayer Olympian torches thrust into the ground Tipped by roofs’ red glow crowns Sandstone arms reaching to the sky At the fringes of Elysian’s quiet reply Titans petrified by Zeus Home to spiritual recluse Once each eyrie had a nest Six remain to stand the test To achieve the impossible against all odds Above common ground closer to god Wedded to their ceaseless vocation At the hem of heaven’s lofty location …….. Delphi Zeus sent two eagles from Mount Olympus Flew until they crossed above the omphalos Grandmother earth’s sacred navel Gaia’s centre and Delphi’s cradle Apollo’s dolphin form to discard He slew the ancient serpent guard The vapours from its rotting form Filled the Pythian Oracle to inform A sanctuary drew polis and pilgrims from afar Treasuries, offerings, wisdom from a rising star Unity through diplomacy, festivals and games Oh that our world could share these aims
Good length of the tour for these 2 area from Athens. The sunset tour and morning Monastery tour are well organized & we were lucky to visit Monastery of Varlaam and Monastery of the Holy Trinity. We have enough free time and be able to take photos during the visit. We are not staying at the village very near to Kastraki and still able to find good retreatant for dinner. Delfi visit also gives us enough time for both Heritage site and museum.
We did 3 Days Tour from Athens to Meteora and Delphi and absolutely loved it. The process was seamless because Visit Meteora had planned it all out for us. We really enjoyed all the beautiful and fascinating sites and we learned a lot about the history of the area. Our guides were very knowledgeable and made the trip a lot of fun.
Top Notch. The bus from Athens was easy to find and left exactly on time. We did the trip that allowed us two days in Meteora. The first day the bus dropped us at our accommodation, Stone Forest (also 5 stars) to settle in and then the bus picked us up for a tour of some monasteries and a sunset pic. Our tour guide is from the area and was extremely knowledgeable. The next morning the bus picked us up and we met a different guide, also from the area for the hike up to the monastery. The hike was on a beautiful trail, only a couple of steeper, very short inclines. Most of the hike was easy, and we stopped often to learn for our guide )who also was a great photographer). I think all abilities would be fine on the hike, as much of it is actually a walk. It was cool to see the monasteries from below and to see some of the hermit caves. After we reached the largest monastery and toured we caught a bus back to the hotel. Honestly, the third day was a little long. We left at 0850 and drove a ways to Thermopylae which is basically a truck stop, not worthwhile. We then drove on to Delphi. It is a cool little town. We had lunch and toured the museum and the ruins. We were there three hours which seemed a little too long for me because of the long bus ride back to Athens. Because of traffic coming into Athens we didn’t reach the bus station until 2030. A really long day. Bottom line Meteora is one of the best places I have and this company does it right. 100% recommend!!
Visiting Meteora was an incredible experience. We did the 3 day tour to Meteora and Delphi. The first night we choose the Sunset Tour. It was very informative and the sunset was breathtaking. The next morning we did a guided hike. Our guide, Evan, was fantastic. Again, we learned a lot about the region and were able to see sights that can only be reached on foot. We opted for a "budget" hotel. The Alsos House was clean and comfortable. The staff was gracious, breakfast was plentiful and a beautiful patio provide space for us to spend time with friends and enjoy the scenery. The trip to Delphi was a bit disappointing. We were provided transportation to Delphi, but visited the museum and site on our own. It was crowded and with no guide, you miss a lot. We were provided with a voucher for the public bus back to Athens. That experience was fine, but a separate guided tour to Delphi may have been a better option. But I would definitely visit Meteora and Kalambaka using Meteora Travel again!
The tour guides and drivers for all of our booked trips were brilliant! This was so well organised and communication throughout was brilliant. Our original plan was to self drive but we were unable to in the end so booked this tour. The Visit Meteora team were so flexible in allowing us to keep our own hotel bookings and ammending pick up and drop off times for us. The tours themselves were brilliant. Lots of information was shared by the guides about the monasteries, rock formations and local towns. They took us to all the best photo spots and went above and beyond as our own personal photographers to make sure we got the best photos! The monasteries are beautiful and the guide gave us plenty of time to explore them and take photos. The climb and the heat was a bit tough at times but they had plenty of water for everyone. Delphi was another highlight of our trip and I would highly recommend that people book the Delphi trip. Overall the team were amazing and worked so hard to make sure everyone's trip was perfect! Thank you for an unforgettable 3 days Visit Meteora!
This is a very hands off company! You must be comfortable with little information and the ability to catch PUBLIC transportation with your luggage and possible kids in tow. You will begin like you are on a tour, in a tour bus, you will be dropped off at your hotel - the driver will have no information on your itinerary, if you have questions you must call the travel company. You will have a lot of free time - you will be responsible for figuring out the area and transportation. The hotel we were put in was nice, however the staff was extremely rude and this is the only place in Greece on our whole trip that we had awful food- the meat served to us at dinner was burnt to a crisp and tough. The highlight: The tour of Meteora and the local guides were amazing!!! Our third day on this tour was to see Delphi. Our driver arrived, we had ALL of our luggage outside waiting- he told us to get in the car he had our bags- they were all right there together- no other parties in site- just our luggage- he left two bags outside and drive away- we didn’t know until we are being dropped off a random hotel in Delphi that will store our luggage for the day- not in a secure location and this will be about a mile to the PUBLIC bus station. Thank goodness I had asked our driver to show us the bus station before he left and a near by restaurant owner took mercy on us and let us store our luggage in his store room right near the bus station- this was with no help from the tour company . So now it is up to us to figure out how to get our luggage- it will be going to Athens and it is our responsibility to figure out how to meet the bus- we didn’t have a rental car and two kids in tow- Visit Meteora offered NO solutions- I contacted our private driver from a few days ago and he met the bus driver and got our luggage. Visit Meteora told me they would reimburse me 30€ for his time- that didn’t happen. If you are wanting a well planned experience from a tour company that communicates and pampers you, this is NOT it. Their excuse that they have so many tour options, which is why the drivers and hotel staff aren’t able to help you , is unacceptable to me. I travel a lot and enjoy booking tours, this tour will make me really look at the reviews and make sure it’s an actual tour from beginning to end. This was during the off-season, I can only imagine how much more stressful it would have been at full capacity. Maybe, this company will at least give me the meager 30€ they said and maybe Viator will really look at this experience.
Meteora hike was so fun! Our guide is so knowledgeable and helpful! Rocks are so pretty to see and hiking was so well planned!
This was a terrific trip/tour. Very well organized and managed. For this destination the 3-day trip is a must. I highly recommend it, because It cannot/should not be done as a single day trip. The Hotel Kaikis where we were put was excellent and very comfortable. With the 3-day trip there is ample time to rest, eat, shop and enjoy the town of Kalabaka.
This experience was amazing. My husband and I are traveling Greece for our honeymoon and booked this adventure. We loved it! The hotel they arranged, boutique Holy Spirit, was perfect. We ended up eating all our meals at the attached restaurant, Gardenia Taverna because after our first lunch we couldn’t imagine anything else could be better. The sunset tour was incredible. Our guide, Apostolos, was so passionate about teaching us all about Meteora and the neighboring towns. We learned so much and had a beautiful experience with amazing views and many stops to get the full experience of the monastic beginnings of Meteora. The next day Vasilis took us on a tour of three Monasteries. Each different and each beautiful. Again we learned so much and had an amazing time. The third day back to Athens through Thermopolyes and Delphi was also wonderful. We had a private driver with two other guests and had a great experience throughout. We cannot recommend this company and your enough. The two nights were not enough, we didn’t want to leave! But definitely stay at least one or two nights to really get the experience.
The view is amazing and the staff of the company is very nice and professional. The hotel we stayed for two nights is very new and we have all meal there.
Efficient comfortable option to connect Delphi amd Meteora without hiring a car (the public bus connections are currently poorly timed and slow). Our driver Dimitri told us stories and stopped for photos, which made for an enjoyable journey - it was like travelling with a Greek friend!
The tour guides in Meteora itself were excellent and would highly recommend those bus tours as a standalone item. But the overall package deal was very disappointing value. The booking implies they will handle everything end to end, but actually they are totally hands off with the bus elements to and from Athens and Delphi. I was late for the bus by a few minutes and for the price I paid for a "package deal" would expect for them to wait for all guests to arrive. But when I called to tell them I would be a few minutes late I was told they didn't even have the direct contact of the driver, the bus left without me and I had to pay for train on my own to meet up with group in Meteora. They did not offer any reimbursement. Similarly for the return leg to Delphi they just drop you off and you have to deal with public bus back to Athens on your own. Also, the "3 star hotel" accommodation is more like 1 star... Overall I would definitely book the Meteora bus tour on its own. But if I dealt with my own transport and hotel bookings separately I could have had exactly the same experience for a much cheaper price. For something at this price point and something positioned as an all-in package deal it did not feel like an integrated hands-on service experience.
Wonderful! Initially I wasn't sure about signing up for the 3 day Meteora and Delphi 3 day tour. After spending time on a family holiday in Crete I had sent my husband and daughter back home as I had more time off work. It was a chunk of money to spend out of my holiday budget, but was worth every penny. After arriving from Athens into Kalambaka and being dropped off at Hotel Kaikis (really friendly staff) I had enough time for an impromptu visit to the Natural history and mushroom museum. This is an old school museum with lots of stuffed animals, but it was excellently done with grouping representative of the local ecology. Worth checking out the videos of the local birds of prey. Upstairs are models of all the mushrooms found locally, again grouped by ecosystem. Also includes info about uses and mythology. Really enjoyable and a good set up for the hiking option I chose for day 2 of the tour. I got back in time for the sunset tour. We were in a small group which was good. The sunset tour included far more than I'd expected, with views of most of the monasteries, a history of the use of the unique geology by hermits leading eventually to the monasteries, a visit to one monastery, and an old church partially built out of a preexisting temple of Apollo (fascinating). The monasteries provide a wrap around skirt if it is needed (no charge). Sunset was partially obscured by a cloud, but the colours were lovely. Apostoles our tour guide was very knowledgeable, funny, and patient with me getting far too excited and wanting to ask all the questions in one go. Ares was our driver and I thought is was very nice that the god of battles took time out of his busy schedule to get us around safely. And I saw a tortoise! The next day in a different small group we had our hiking tour. I was a bit worried that my fitness wouldn't be good enough, but for the most part the walking was not too challenging although the temperature was on my side in April. The steps down later in the walk was the worst bit for me. Ares the driver got us to our location and Evan was our tour guide. He was very friendly and he was very knowledgeable about the geology and nature of the area. We saw many different orchids (April seems to be a good time for flowers). We also saw wild boar wallow (the stuffed boar in the museum was a good reference). This was a highlight. The area is truly beautiful and this is a great way to see it. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. We also saw the inside of another monastery. After being dropped off in Kalambaka I had lunch with one of my fellow trekkers and then back to my hotel for a well deserved rest that afternoon. The next day it was time for my transfer to Delphi via Thermopylae. Imagine my surprise when it was just me and my lovely driver Stolos. We chatted about families, life in Greece, and the botany and wildlife of the area. All whole driving through some of the most stunning mountain scenery I have ever seen. The trip was worth it just for this. Stolos told me there is a mushroom festival in September which is a great reason for me to plan a repeat trip! At Delphi I was given my instructions to get the KTel bus. I went to the museum, saw the main site and the temple of Athena at the bottom. I rushed a bit, but in reality I had plenty of time. The ruins and museum were beautiful, but I have to say the mountains are still my highlight of the day. Getting the bus was easy and it didn't take long to get back to Athens. Apologies to everyone's name that I've got wrong.
Tour was very organized; our guides Apostolis and Cristos were very knowledgeable and communicated very well, and driver Ares was punctual and friendly.
We arrived at the train station to catch our bus (as trains are currently not operating). BE AWARE: The bus was standing on the opposite side of the road from the mentioned cafe on the description. Nonetheless- we got on the buss in time! XD Now, this is a LONG busride- approximately 4h and 30m. Still, I was occupied with the views because Central Greece is stunning! (You'll also get a break 2 hours in to stretch your legs, have a quick snack or use the bathroom). Unfortunately, about 3h and 30m in- the bus broke down while heading up to the mountains. This was resolved rather quickly and the busdrivers remained professional throughout the incident. Still, it took up a bit of time. When we arrived in Kalambaka, we got some time (30m) to grab some lunch. After that, we headed to our minibusses and drove up to the mountains (Meteora). Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about Meteora's history and origins, and was very helpful in answering everyone's questions. Heading up to the monestaries- OMG. Breathtaking views, stunning interior and fascinating artifacts all for our eyes to see. We got to see 2 monasteries that day (day 1 of the trip)- the monasteries of Varlaam and St. Stephen. Amazing! Is it weird that I found some unexplained peace there? XD I recommend checking out the gift shop in St. Stephen as I found them to have the best selection. Some of the monasteries were closed that day, but we got to take some pictures from their exteriors as well as visiting the Sunset Rock for some enchanting fotos of the views. On day 2, we got to see 2 more monasteries- the monastery of Rousanou and Holy Trinity. Both are big climbs to say the least! Well worth the views, though. Tip: take pictures! Lots of them! We also revisited monastery Varlaam (free of charge!), which I found to be among my favorites along with St. Stephen. On day 3 we left Kalambaka and headed onto Delphi, but first we had a quick stop at Thermopylae to look at the Leonidas monument, which defintely crossed off some of our groups' bucket lists! Moving on to Delphi. The archeological sites did not disappoint, but there are a lot of people there even off-season, so bear that in mind! What we found the most interesting in Delphi was the museum. There were a lot more artifacts inside than I imagined, and overall they gave me a better impression on how Delphi was in its era. After grabbing some lunch, we headed to our bus to Athens, and therefore concluded our 3 day trip. What an experience!
This trip was definitely a highlight of our time in Europe. We visited not long after flooding in this part of Greece. I was worried we might not be able to get to Meteora due to the floods, but Visit Meteora Travel had everything covered to make sure we were able to see everything on this tour. The tour guides were friendly, knowledgeable with prompt pick ups and excellent tips for enjoying the monasteries. Our favourite day was when we did the hike to the hidden monastery. Very few tourists, fabulous scenery, excellent tour guide - it was a special day. Delphi didn't disappoint either. Whilst it was very hot, we had plenty of time to see the ruins and spend time in the excellent museum, have a great lunch before catching the bus back to Athens. It all went according to plan and was a fabulous 3 days!
Meteora is amazing , I feel so grateful to Visit Meteora on ground company and in particular our guide Katerina . She imparted so much knowledge to us and her passion for her home town and her personal experience with a cave monk have been the highlight of my travels ( I have been away 7 weeks ) Don’t miss this trip of a lifetime
George and his entire staff at Visit Meteora made our special couple’s trip to the Meteora area such a special one. We needed to change things around at the last minute and George made this happen in a smooth and efficient way, making everything so easy for us. A shout out to Evan, thanks for making the long drive so interesting and enjoyable. Everyone at the company was terrific, thank you Visit Meteora.
20 stars out of 10 - we had an amazing experience, as the team at Visit Meteora Travel went utterly out of their way to help us poor (in reality “lucky”) stranded tourists get to Meteora from Athens when historic (and tragic) flooding hit the region and prevented us from getting there by train. What started out as an annoying inconvenience was met by the gravity of how bad things were, and yet we and a few others were picked up by an amazing, super lovely company driver/unexpected tour guide/travel companion (Evan) in collaboration with one of the co-owners (George) for our small Odyssey to Meteora, which ultimately took us multiple days to arrive and skirt around the flooding. for us to make life simple. We even ended up travelling back with the amazing George out of the region, who gave us his insight into regions and the fascinating history of Greece while we were all on the road. What could have simply been a classic 3-day tour experience was ultimately something we’ll remember for years, and we’d love to come back to the region because we’ve never had such an amazing experience from a tour anywhere in the world! We wish the team all the best, and hope that the region recovers quickly and never has to go through such anguish again. All the absolute best from NZ!
Well organised, informative, loved the Morning Walk the most! Guides were well informed, managed the tours well so that even in very busy peak season we were never herded with the crowds.
Recently we returned from a three week vacation in Greece. It was a wonderful experience, and a big reason for that success was the assistance we received from Visit Meteora. This firm offered us two marvelous half-day tours of the historic area, including the fascinating monasteries that attract so many visitors. The tour bus picked us up at our hotel, and took us to the destination, where we had plenty of time to explore the site. At one point the tour leader observed that we might have difficulty keeping up, and after dropping off the group, took us to an alternate more-accessible monastery that was outstanding. In addition, because I was not able to drive in Greece, Visit Meteora helped us find transport to most of the cities on our itinerary. Prior to our departure from the USA, I had numerous discussions via email with the managers there making various arrangements that contributed so much to the success of our family vacation. When a sudden railroad strike left us stranded in Athens, Visit Meteora provided us a driver who picked us up there and took us to our destination in Meteora. We are so grateful for the services provided us by this firm, and look forward to joining them again on our next trip to Greece.
My friends and I had the Best of time visiting the Meteora on July 3 to 5 ! From the first time we contacted you long before COVID, the services you provided was always first class. We had to cancel due to COVID, you gave us a credit that we used only this year and all went exactly as first planned ! We waited 3 years to do our trip but it was all worth it ! I would recommand your agency with no hesitation! Jim and Evan were great! Regards from Canada 🇨🇦 Josée, André, Luc, Isabelle, Josée, Patrick, Marc and Cathy July 3 to 5 2023
Wonderful region, kind people, relaxing trip . Delicious food in the small town of meteora. Third day(transfer to Delphi and back to Athens is a long day of travel.
This package was a brilliant way to experience Meteora and Delphi as it could be a challenging area to coordinate transport. Instructions were very clear, accommodation great and every pick up was very comfortable, on time and safe. Highly recommend Visit Meteora - they have nailed the co-ordination and manage the balance of taking the stress out of organising and creating a self guided experience without being part of a large group. Loved it! If you are fit enough - try the hike - it was a highlight.
Do Not book the Meteora Delphi tour package! Although parts were positive (the tour guide and bus at meteora for example were lovely) we had an extremely frustrating experience. First, be forewarned that this is NOT a tour package. Rather it is a set of isolated tickets. In Delphi there is no tour. You are dropped off downtown and on your own until it’s time for the public bus. Get Your Guide (the operator. A different name but perhaps a subcontract deal?) was disorganized and hard to reach. For example, they gave us three different departure times in our email. When I followed up it took 30 min of very confusing run around to get an answer. In Delphi we were dropped off and told we could leave our luggage in an unattended unlocked room downtown. They said this is standard (?). Unfortunately, the hike to l and in Delphi were many miles. I had two children with me and a back problem that made it hard to carry luggage for a long distance. Finally Delphi is not particularly self-explanatory. One would think a tour would include a tour! No. The single meteora tours are fine. AVOID THIS PACKAGE
We had no info about itinerary once we arrived at train station. We found our names and were told to get on this bus but suddenly our names were called to get off the bus to go to our hotels where we were dropped off. No one could provide any information? We booked the tour separately and figured we would be at the same hotel but were not. Took a while to find someone to check me in and he finally provided some into but was still in the dark about the full 3 day tour. Would have been nice to receive some info on how all this was going to work time wise. The guides and tour were good...
We like this company very well. Communications were clear, responsive and straightforward upfront. Travel arrangements were timely with good, friendly, knowledgeable drivers. We customized our trip for pick up from our Athens Hotel and direct taxi from Delphi to our hotel in Cape Sounion for a reasonable price. They provided our choice of hotel from their list, which is Archontiko Mesohori. We loved this family-run B&B in every way, the apartments, the location amidst the rocks, the breakfast and the family. VisitMeteora tours were very well organized, the tour guides excellent, the stops fun and appropriate. Timing for each stop good. Moderate level of physical fitness required. Altogether, despite some rainy weather, we thoroughly enjoyed our 3 days 2 nights tour in every way. Thank you.
Absolutely no regrets about dedicating nearly 1/3 of our time in Greece to Meteora with this tour. We were a bit nervous about the metro in Athens, given some of the comments in reviews, but it was super easy. Our actual times for departing were not as early as indicated by the information posted here, which was another bonus. Other logistics were also great. For example, the train was easy to understand and pleasant. (However, the hotel was passable. Wouldn't have picked it if it were up to me, and I won't stay there again.) The tours were absolutely stunning and unforgettable. I can't say enough good things about our tour and our tour guide. We definitely want to come back to Greece, and this tour is a key motivator. We'd like to return to Kalambaka -- the food tasted like it'd just been picked from the vine. We definitely want to spend more time in and around Delphi. And we'd like to return to Meteora, maybe in the winter.
This trip was absolutely amazing. The people were friendly, Meteora and Delphi amazing, and the organisation was stellar. The whole trip felt easy and stress free despite the reliance on public transport. Genuinely, I'd recommend it to anyone.
Was extremely pleased with the coordination of the whole trip, from train tickets, pick ups to and from the train and our exceptional taxi driver who provided such wonderful knowledge to Delphi and our knowledgeable tour guides , Katorina and Nikolo , and drivers to the monasteries. Our hotels were exceptional. Really loved the stay at our quaint hotel Archontiko Mesohori , outside the town of Kalamabaka. Could sit outside and see the Meteora cliffs. The four day, three night tour was exceptional !!
Beautiful views, Great experience My trip was 4 days actually, I paid Max amount to get a fully escorted Guided experience, But I am been totally ripped off ????? Great trip, I thought I was in a fully guided group tour , but many time I am left to fend for myself getting incredibly lost in train station in Delphi ( I exited the wrong station, station was NOT labeled even in Greek), no one from the company assured me My return bus will run from Delphi to Athens. I paid €600 for a DIY experience??? I could have fine this myself and book me a 2 day tour on Meteora. 1st day was Excellent, the guide did excellent explanations, 2nd day the guide hardly explained anything, I am pretty much on my own. Delphi I was pick up by someone, but rest of tour in Delphi was “ Self Guided” then I was given a bus ticket to take myself back to Athens with no guarantee it will run and I was told if bus doesn’t run I have to pay the company extra to get back to Athens On top of the €600 I already paid. Don’t waste your money, buy a guide book and plan your own trip😕
Everything about the tour was amazing and very well organized: - The train ride from Athens to Kalambaka was smooth, train was on time and very nice - Since I was visiting in December, Visit meteora suggested I joined another tour instead of the sunset tour. They were waiting for me at the train station when I arrived in Kalambaka. I visited 3 monasteries and our guide, Maria, was excellent, very informative and funny - The hotel was nice, breakfast was great - The hiking tour was amazing, Chris also was a very nice guide and I had a great time discovering Meteora on foot - Taxi driver from the hotel to the train station was again very nice and helpful, went in with me to ask if the train was on time - Train from Kalambaka to Levidia was again smooth, I had to change trains but it was all very clear - Taxi driver from Levadia to Delphi was amazing, he gave me a lot of information about the surroundings, the archeological site, how to get to the bus after the Delphi visit, etc… - Visit to Delphi archeological site was beautiful, plenty of time to visit everything and had a great lunch at the cafe where I could store my luggage - Bus from Delphi back to Athens was the only thing that was not perfect: it took almost 4 hours instead of 2 and the bus was quite full, very hot and made a lot of stops along the way All in all a very good experience, highly recommended, and a big thank you to Visit Meteora for the spotless organizations and all the amazing and very nice people I met along the way!
I took the 3 day rail tour to Meteora & Delphi. Visit Meteora's travel services and coordination was one of the best I have seen during my fairly extensive travels. They though of every detail. They kept you informed at every point thru the journey via email or thorugh their drivers. All the tour guides and drivers spoke excellent English. A special thank you to Costas, our hike tour guide who was excellent. Despite the continous rain, he made it a memorable hike. There were times the path was muddy/slippery/rocky and he held my arm through the rough spots with expertise. I would highly recommend this tour company. Book it and don't think twice. You will enjoy your Meteora excursion, no matter which tour you book, Personally, I enjoyed having two days (2 nights) ... to me the same day train travel would have felt rushed. Having Delphi stop on the return was lovely too.
We are so happy we did this tour. It was put together remarkably well. We felt very well taken care of. The hikes were magnificent and the guides were so knowledgeable. The company was very professional and the customer service was impeccable. We highly recommend this tour.
