During this unique experience, participants will immerse themselves in the art of marble carving in the heart of Athens. They will learn about the history of marble and stone craftsmanship in ancient Greece, explore the MarbleArt collection, and create their own marble sculpture using traditional hand tools. Guided by experts, they will be taught how to use these tools to engrave personal symbols onto marble, following techniques dating back to antiquity. This hands-on workshop combines creative expression, historical insight, and practical sculpting skills. At the end of the activity, each participant will take their unique creation home as a keepsake. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to take a guided walk through Athens’ historic center, where they can discover and photograph iconic sculptures, fully engaging with Greek culture in a welcoming and inspiring environment.
Highly recommend adding the marble carving class to your Athens itinerary. The instructor is so sweet, and also a professor at the local university. He is encouraging, and allows, attendees to carve in their own personal style without imposing his own perspectives. As travellers abroad, we often get caught up trying to see and capture all we can, moving from monument to monument without fully grasping how it was they came to be. Demetrius’s class is now on my must-do recommendation list for anyone visiting Athens, whether travelling solo, with friends or with loved ones. There’s something so unique about getting to step into this craft yourself, connecting the present to the past in a way that lets you get creative, reflect and tap directly into the history and artistry so deeply revered in Greece. Spending a few hours alongside Demetrius making our own marble creations was one of the highlights of my family’s trip. Not only because of the experience itself, but because of the care, knowledge and professionalism Demetrius brought to it. We left with beautiful keepsakes from our time in Greece, a deeper appreciation for the art form and memories we’ll carry with us long after the trip. We’re forever thankful for the experience.
Very unique and interesting workshop. The instructor really helped you explore marble carving as an art and get into a creative mind set. Welearned about the history of marble carving and got very clear demonstrations for proper technique so that we protected our wrists. Well worth the cost, I'm super pleased with this unique souvenir from my trip to Greece!
This has most certainly been an unforgettable part of our trip in Athens. The instructor and his co-instructor clearly have a lot of experience in this field in the way they explain the marble carving process and demonstrations, as well as the instructor's help with coming up with what to carve onto our marble slab by having us reflect on other marble carvings. It was so much fun, we used genuine tools for marble carving, and we got to interact with and make friends with other people in the workshop too. I would highly recommend this class, whether you are artsy or not. I sure am not, but still had a wonderful time :) that, and you obviously get to bring your unique carving home with you. That in of itself already is worth the workshop as you never know how much a piece of art on a marble slab would cost out there nowadays.

Absolutely amazing experience. The class was so much more than a simple marble sculpting class. It felt like a real introduction to art itself. The instructor was incredibly knowledgeable, passionate and took time to explain the history, theory, and meaning behind marble sculpting before guiding us through the hands-on process. What I loved most was that we were encouraged to create our own design rather than just copy something. The instructor was genuinely passionate about helping everyone bring their ideas to life. Working with marble was challenging but incredibly fun, and the atmosphere made it fun and approachable even for beginners. One of the highlights of my trip and something I’ll remember for a very long time. Highly recommend to anyone interested in art, creativity, or trying something truly unique.
My girlfriend and I had an amazing time doing this. The host was knowledgeable and accommodating, and his assistant Daphne was absolutely amazing. Even though my carving wasn't very good she was relentlessly encouraging and provided lots of help asking with a good dose of humour. We never felt rushed through the process despite the fact that we ran past the scheduled end time. This was our favourite activity from our 5 days in Athens and I would highly encourage anyone who wants to try something uniquely Greek to consider this.

This was a nice exposure to marble carving/sculpting. The host and assistants were friendly and knowledgeable. They made everyone successful. We found the act of sculpting and chiseling to be relaxing.

A must do experience while in Athens! The host was very knowledgeable and gave us history as well as a creative exercise to help us tap into our artist mind. Christina was so sweet and an excellent artist. She helped us create our sketches for our marble and was very hands on and encouraging through the whole experience. So grateful I gave this a try and now I have a one-of-a-kind souvenir to commemorate my time in Athens ! 10/10 would recommend
Fantastic evening spent learning how to carve in marble in a sculptor’s studio. Learnt about the history of the craft then designed and started carving my own marble head to bring home. Very kind and patient tutor.

I really enjoyed this sculpture workshop. The instructor was extremely clear in his explanations, breaking down the technique step by step in a way that was easy to follow, even for beginners. His enthusiasm was contagious and created a creative, inspiring atmosphere throughout the workshop. Highly recommended!

I'm not artistic and have never carved marble before... so was thrilled to have learnt more about marble carving and to have been able to produce something half decent! The instructors were lovely and super helpful, this is a real hands on experience. We were taking quite a long time (due to inexperience) and they were so patient and let us finish our pieces. It's an usual activity, which is why it was so good to do it. We did it at the start of a two week holiday travelling around the ancient sites of Greece, and my word did it give us an appreciation for all the marbles we saw on our travels after that. The piece is ready to take home after the class, just be mindful of how heavy the piece of marble you choose to carve is if you are travelling around afterwards and have to carry it everywhere!
It was a very educational and guided experience. They were very thorough in explaining the history of marble carving, the tools and materials used. Asked questions that got us thinking, showed us inspiration and an example video. They were very kind, helpful, and attentive. It was a great experience, I enjoyed myself so much.
The best part of our trip in Athens (and this is coming from an Archaeologist). We had a wonderful, fun and fascinating experience with Dimitrius. Who has decades of experience, it was an honor to learn from him. We learnt about marble, and how to carve it, and mostly about the connection between working with your hands, expressing yourself and emotional healing. Highly recommended!

This was a great hidden gem! Spent part of the time looking at examples of projects, art discussion, history of carving among the Greek islands, and then crafting your own piece. Instructors were helpful and creative. Plenty of marble supplies and tools. We loved it, though only one of us is traditionally crafty. Would highly recommend!
We booked this experience looking for something unique and meaningful. We are so glad we did this experience before we visited the Acropolis. It gave us a whole new appreciation for the incredible art presented there. Just carving a simple slab is nothing compared to the tons and tons of marble carved to create these amazing monuments. The instructors were absolutely incredible. They were so knowledgeable, friendly, and encouraging. Even though we were complete beginners with no experience, they assured us our art was perfect. Highly, highly recommend this experience if you are looking to learn something new and appreciate Ancient Greek culture.

From start to finish, the experience was incredibly enriching, hands-on, and deeply inspiring. The instructors were not only experts in their craft but also incredibly kind, patient, and creative. They struck the perfect balance between teaching technique and encouraging personal expression. You could really feel their passion—for marble, for history, and for helping others connect with it. What I didn’t expect was just how meditative and fulfilling the process would be. Working with authentic tools and real marble gave us such a deep appreciation for ancient artisans and the incredible effort behind the masterpieces in Athens. It’s one thing to admire Greek sculpture—it’s another to feel the marble in your own hands. By the end, my teens and I had created something we were truly proud of, and more importantly, walked away with a whole new perspective on Greek art and culture. My 13 year old said it was his favorite thing we did in Athens. This workshop goes beyond tourism—it’s a connection to heritage, creativity, and craftsmanship. Highly, highly recommend to anyone curious, creative, or just wanting to experience Athens in a totally memorable way!

This was a great experience! The staff is amazing and very helpful. We were able to make our own design then carve it in our own marble piece.
I booked it as an anniversary experience to enjoy a nice evening with my girlfriend, and I must say I didn't quite know what to expect, but I was completely convinced and satisfied with the course. The guides were nice and competent, spoke good English, and created a great atmosphere. They also gave us as much time as we needed to carve our symbol. 10/10 would do again.
