Arachova is a mountain town and a former municipality in the western part of Boeotia, Greece, originally called Karyai (also spelled Caryae). Its name is of South Slavic origin and denotes a place with walnut trees. It is a tourist destination due to its location in the mountains, its traditions, and its proximity to the town of Delphi. Arachova has a panoramic view, uphill small houses, and the cobbled streets show a picturesque architecture. The town center includes a huge and steep cliff, the Bell Tower, covered with dense ivy. At the top of the tower is a large 10m height clock. Arachova is famous for its black wine, its "brusque", the colorful textiles, carpets and rugs, handicrafts, and woodcut creations as well.
Livadeia is a town in central Greece. It is the capital of the Boeotia regional district. The area around Livadeia is mountainous, with farming activities mainly confined to the valleys. The area has traditionally been associated with the production and processing of cotton and tobacco, as well as the cultivation of cereal crops and the raising of livestock. The city is also known for having participated in the War of Troy in allegiance with Mycenae.
Mount Parnassus is a mountain in central Greece that towers above Delphi, north of the Gulf of Corinth. Mount Parnassus offers many advantages to the population of Greece. In peace, it possesses scenic views of the countryside and features olive groves and rolling hills. The mountain is also the location of historically, archaeologically, and culturally significant places of interest (such as Delphi). Recreationally, the slopes of Parnassus provide a medium for hiking (in the three warm seasons) and are skied in winter. Its melting snows provide water to the surrounding communities, reaching out as far as Athens. The mountain is composed of limestone, and its rock contains bauxite, ore that is rich in aluminum. In war, Parnassus has been a center of resistance if need be, providing cover and refuge to partisans.
Arrival at the archaeological site of Delphi after a 2,5 hours trip. Free time for a walk at: - sanctuaries of Apollo and Athena Pronaia - ancient stadium and theater
Delphi Archaeological Museum is one of the principal museums of Greece and one of the most visited. It is operated by the Greek Ministry of Culture. Founded in 1903, it has been rearranged several times and houses the discoveries made at the Panhellenic sanctuary of Delphi, which dates from the Late Helladic (Mycenean) period to the early Byzantine era. Organized in fourteen rooms on two levels, the museum mainly displays statues, including the famous Charioteer of Delphi, architectural elements, like the frieze of the Siphnian Treasury, and ex-votos dedicated to the sanctuary of Pythian Apollo, like the Sphinx of Naxos. The exhibition floor space is more than 2270m2, while the storage and conservation rooms (mosaics, ceramics, and metals) take up 558m2.
Αn intriguing architectural marvel nestled within the archaeological site of Delphi. Tholos provides us with a window into the ancient world and the rich tapestry of beliefs and traditions. The Tholos of Athena Pronaia is a circular building with a distinctive architectural design, featuring a ring of Doric columns surrounding a central chamber. Built in the 4th century BCE, this unique structure served as a sanctuary dedicated to Athena Pronaia, a variant of the goddess Athena worshipped in Delphi. Stand before the elegant columns and intricate stonework of the Tholos and imagine the awe and reverence it inspired in ancient worshippers. In the shadow of Mount Parnassus and overlooking the sacred precincts of Delphi, this sanctuary would have been a focal point for religious rituals, offerings, and oracular consultations.
The Temple of Apollo, god of music, harmony, light, healing, and oracles occupied the most important and prominent position in the Delphic Panhellenic Sanctuary. The edifice with the partially restored colonnade visible today dates to the 4th century BC; it is the third temple built at the same place. The famous oracle, the Pythia, operated inside the temple, the location chosen, according to one tradition, due to a sacred chasm beneath the site emitting vapors, which were inhaled by the Pythia. Some ancient writers state that the Pythia then entered a state of delirium and uttering inarticulate cries, which were then turned into equivocal oracles by the priests. This interpretation is controversial, and has been challenged by scholars such as Joseph Fontenrose and Lisa Maurizio, who argue that the ancient sources uniformly represent the Pythia speaking intelligibly, and giving prophecies in her own voice.

Long van ride with only a few sights of interest. Delphi itself and the lunch in downtown Delphi was fantastic!
Guide was super kind and knowledgeable. The private driver, Michael, was super accommodating and on time, and made the experience wonderful. The timing of the tour was perfect, we returned to Athens at around 4pm.
A beautiful drive with a very knowledgeable driver. The archeological site was impressive. The lunch location was spectacular and the lunch was very tasty as well. A lovely day!
Incredible! Our driver/guide Alex was great. Knowledgeable and spoke good English. I recommend this excursion and Alex.
Our driver/guide Alex was EXCELLENT! His English was very good & easy to understand. Alex is knowledgeable and was fun to talk with. He also recommended a great restaurant. I'd highly recommend him.
What an amazing day. This was so easy to book and flexible to adjust. As with my other tours, days and transfers with My Athens Transfers, Natasa, with whom I have dealt with setting all these things up has just done an fantastic job. Now I see not only as she organized well, but she is choosing people who make each event work perfectly. And today was no different because she assigned us an absolutely top-notch driver for our Delphi tour. Dimitri Tabone made the day absolutely wonderful. He got in touch with me the night before to let me know what time and where he would meet us. Then he was early and when we started he told us from the beginning what to expect in terms of time but also allowed it to be flexible to fit our needs along the way. He was delightful. He answered questions and though not specifically a tour guide for the site, was able to tell us about Greece, the country, the people and all the places in between while we drove. His English is phenomenal which made the day even better. He's just a wonderful person to spend the day with. The day could not have gone better. It was one of our highlights that we had looked forward to in coming to Greece. When you have a highlight, Sometimes it doesn't turn out well, or as well as you expect. But today was even better than we could have expected. Thank you to Dimitri for making this Day one to remember.
Our driver Alex was friendly and knowledgeable. We would highly recommend him. The steps to the theater and Stadium were challenging! Wear good shoes!
Worth the time of you have it to spare. Great time with wonderful views. Friendly (long) rides but they paid off.
Dimitri was right on time for our pickup. He was very friendly and inquired about our families. He also told us about himself and his family. He was a great source of information about our excursion and what to expect when we arrived. He was a great guide informing us about his country. Dimitri brought us to a nice lunch spot with great food. We appreciated his driving on this long trip through mountains with heavy rains and fog. We always felt safe. We really enjoyed Dimitri and would highly recommend him and his company.
The driver (Panos) was excellent and personable. He accommodates my timelines and my interests. Note that the driver is kot allowed to conduct a tour inside of Delphi, but there is a free app that provides an audio tour. So bring your smartphone and earbuds.
My Athens Transfer has gone above and beyond with our stay in Greece for our group of 11. They were able to let us pay by credit card for each couple for each day which was a great relief for our group. It just made it so much easier and we didn’t have to keep getting euros out or carry around large sums. The drivers have been helpful and always on time, sometimes early. The certified tour guide they hired for us for the day tour in Athens was so wonderful!!! I would definitely recommend this tour company especially coming from the USA.
The driver was excellent - personable and informative. He was very flexible, accommodating all of my timelines and needs. Note that the tour of Delphi is not included. There is an app you can download that provides a marriages tour, so bring your smartphone and earbuds.
We had a wonderful full day private tour visiting Ancient Delphi with My Athens Transfers. Including on-time pickup, a comfortable Mercedes Coach, early arrival at Delphi - which I heartily recommend because of tour crowds, a delicious Greek meal at an intimate family-run restaurant, and timely return to our hotel, our guide Costas managed our trip with excellence, professionalism, and the best of Greek hospitality. Our wide ranging conversation with him about the history of Delphi, Greek culture and the country side we were traveling through was throughly enjoyable and made the miles pass swiftly. With so much more to see, we look forward to returning to Greece to visit Mycenae with this tour company and Costas next!
Overall, a good value for the money. Michael, our driver, was very prompt, courteous, informative and fun. He allowed us sufficient to enjoy Delphi and made an excellent lunch recommendation - he made the reservation for us and we had an excellent table with an amazing view. All in all, an excellent day.
We had a wonderful time! Panos made the entire experience very relaxed and enjoyable. We were able to explore Arachova and Delphi at our own pace and both were beautiful places.
We drove from Athens to Delphi with Michael, the ride was very comfortable, we were provided with water. He pointed all important spots on our way along with their significance and answered many of our questions. A brief stop in Arachova was also very nice with cute little shops and streets. The tavern he took us to had fresh authentic Greek food which was amazing.
We had a wonderful time! Panos made everything easy and we were able to explore Arachova and Delphi at our own pace.
Great experience and highly recommend! Also dress with layers as the mountains can be cool, but the hike up Delphi can get hot We had Alex and he was great!
Our full-day trip was absolutely wonderful! George was a fantastic guide—knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about Greek history and culture. He made the journey fascinating and enjoyable, sharing wonderful insights along the way. The ancient ruins at Delphi was amazing. Walking among the remarkable ruins and taking in the breathtaking mountain scenery was an unforgettable experience. We also enjoyed a delicious lunch at a delightful family-owned taverna, adding a lovely taste of authentic Greek hospitality to the day. George made the experience truly memorable, and we highly recommend this tour!
So much better than riding on a bus. Went early when it wasn’t so hot and crowded. Beat the buses. Loved location for lunch
Giannis picked us up at the hotel on time. He was extremely polite, friendly and easy to talk with. On our trip to and from Delphi he shared tons of historical knowledge and gave us pointers on what we were going to see. He was a delight. Delphi is beautiful, and full of fun artifacts. Our lunch (included with our trip) was beyond expectation, and the view stunning. A great day!
It was a great trip. Giannis, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable and gave us so much information during the entire drive. Extremely polite, professional and punctual.
Delphi is not a quick trip, but we are glad we Travelled there. We had a great driver (Patmos) who made our day a great learning experience. Communication was good & pick up as planned. He was very accommodating, and knowledgeable about the area (Athens to Delphi), Greek history & mythology & more. Stopped in a cute village for coffee & bakery, as we chose to have lunch after Delphi. We started at the site, rather than the museum, but didnt know there was an app that could be downloaded in the museum, that would have provided some guidance to what we were seeing. Signage on the site, however, was helpful. Enjoyed the walk through the ruins. Afterwards Patmos drove us to an open air restaurant where we enjoyed a Greek lunch before heading back. Ride back was smooth & weather perfect. Recommend
A comfortable day tour to Delphi. Our driver and guide was Giannis who was a terrific driver and very knowledgeable guide. After visiting Delphi he took us to a magnificent restaurant for lunch with an outstanding view
Giannis was punctual, friendly and very knowledgeable. We enjoyed the comfort of his clean vehicle He was a very good driver and we felt safe
Chris. Our host for the tour was very well informed and thoughtful for our needs. My son also enjoyed the experience.
Gianni, our driver, was an encyclopedia of knowledge about Greece and about our destination, Delphi, in particular. It was a delicious bit of luxury to have our own driver, to arrive at the site early enough to beat the crowds, to move at our own pace and to be driven skillfully back to Athens while we chatted and dozed. The lunch that was selected for us was excellent, with a spectacular view. A perfect day !
Our driver Vasilis was awesome! Highly recomend.
Costas was great! The trip went very smoothly and we got to see some incredible sites! 10/10
Alex was the best tour guide ! His knowledge of the history of Greece was top notch. He was very personable and very cordial. The knowledge of the history was not rehearsed but rather coming from deep interest in Greece's culture and history! Superb!
Excellent trip to Delphi with Yiannis. He found an excellent restaurant for our lunch, and provided historical background for everything we were seeing. Long drive, but a good day.
Costas, our driver from myAthensTransfers was really good, knowledgeable and sense of humor. Both places we stopped for coffee or meal ( great view below Delphi) were excellent. Long drive but worth it. We hired guide inside museum and sites....and felt it was money well spent. Hard to see things and get a good grasp without. MyAthensTransfers gave me guide names, and we chose Georgina, for Euro 150.
Truly enjoyed this Delphi tour! Giannis was a fantastic driver - he arrived early, helped with our bags, provided so much insightful information about Delphi and Greece, and was accommodating and flexible with our plans. Book this tour, you won’t regret it!
We had a terrific time. George (the driver and guide) was fantastic — gave us all the information we needed and treated us all very kindly. Delphi is unmatched. And the restaurant George booked was perfect.
This was one of the most fantastic things I’ve ever done!!! From the moment Alex picked us up tell the time he dropped us off we felt so comfortable. He did a fantastic job sharing the history with us and helping us get the most of our tour of Delphi! I have to also so the lunch was amazing - the Chicken with mushrooms was the most flavorful meal I’ve had in my life and I’m 58 years old!!! I highly recommend this tour and Alex!!!
This is the best way to see Delphi on a day trip from Athens. Our driver Vasili was on time, professional, and his knowledge of Greece and Delphi made the ride both interesting and informative. The provided lunch was outstanding, and the view from our table and the good were both unbelievable.
Our transportation for the day, driven by Notis, was very informative about Greece, Athens, and Delphi, as we learned a great deal through our conversation about all three topics.
Costa was fantastic! He was incredibly knowledgeable about Greek mythology, ancient history, and modern-day Greece. He shared information in such an engaging way, making everything interesting and enjoyable. We learned so much! Logistically, he was also great with coordinating pickups and drop-offs—everything was smooth and well organized. His combination of knowledge, professionalism, reliability, and warmth really added to the experience. Thank you, Costa!
Excellent experience. The guide was knowledgeabl and polite.
The day started out our tour guide Demitri was excellent !! During our ride to Demetri shared volumes of information and spoke English very well. After our visit to Delphi archaeological site and museum which was very interesting and the Greek Mythology stories that Demetri shared during our ride was helpful in understanding the significance of Apollo and Delphi. We enjoyed a perfect lunch at a local Taverna. The lunch was wonderful along with a spectacular view.! Demitri was a great driver and communicator. Thanks for a spectacular tour!

Wonderful time driving to/from Delphi and exploring the temples, amphitheater, museum, grounds, with a lovely stop in Arachova. Our terrific driver Notis regaled us with tales of Greek myths and history. The grounds were hot and good walking shoes are helpful. The museum was nicely air conditioned.
