George was an amazing guide. I could listen to him for days. So kind and willing to help and drive us around.

Itinerary
Thermopylae is a place in Greece where a narrow coastal passage existed in antiquity. It derives its name from its hot sulphur springs. In Greek mythology the Hot Gates is one of the entrances to Hades. Thermopylae is the site of a battle between the Greek forces and the invading Persian forces, commemorated by Simonides of Ceos in the famous epitaph, "Go tell the Spartans, stranger passing by, That here obedient to their laws we lie." Thermopylae is the only land route large enough to bear any significant traffic between Lokris and Thessaly. To go from north to south along the east coast of the Balkan peninsula requires use of the pass, and so Thermopylae has been the site of several battles.
The Battle of Thermopylae was fought between an alliance of Ancient Greek city-states, led by King Leonidas I of Sparta, and the Achaemenid Empire of Xerxes I. It was fought in 480 BC over the course of three days, during the second Persian invasion of Greece. The battle took place simultaneously with the naval battle at Artemisium. It occurred at the narrow coastal pass of Thermopylae ("The Hot Gates") in August or September 480 BC. The Persian invasion was a delayed response to the defeat of the first Persian invasion of Greece, which had been ended by the Athenian victory at the Battle of Marathon in 490 BC. By 480 BC, Xerxes had amassed a massive army and navy and set out to conquer all of Greece. The Athenian politician and general Themistocles had proposed that the allied Greeks block the advance of the Persian army at the pass of Thermopylae, while simultaneously blocking the Persian navy at the Straits of Artemisium.
Leonidas was a king of the Greek city-state of Sparta, and the 17th of the Agiad line, a dynasty which claimed descent from the mythological demigod Heracles and Cadmus. Leonidas was son of King Anaxandridas II. He succeeded his half-brother King Cleomenes I to the throne in c. 489 BC. Leonidas had a notable participation in the Second Persian War, where he led the allied Greek forces to a last stand at the Battle of Thermopylae (480 BC) while attempting to defend the pass from the invading Persian army; he died at the battle and entered myth as the leader of the 300 Spartans. While the Greeks lost this battle, they were able to expel the Persian invaders in the following year.
Next to the monument of Leonidas, in the historic Thermopylae, lies the innovative museum of the Lamia Municipality, dedicated to the 480 BC battle that changed the course of Greek history.
Free time for a walk at: - sanctuaries of Apollo and Athena Pronaia - ancient stadium and theater
An intriguing architectural marvel nestled within the archaeological site of Delphi. Tholos provides us with a window into the ancient world and the rich tapestry of beliefs and traditions. The Tholos of Athena Pronaia is a circular building with a distinctive architectural design, featuring a ring of Doric columns surrounding a central chamber. Built in the 4th century BCE, this unique structure served as a sanctuary dedicated to Athena Pronaia, a variant of the goddess Athena worshipped in Delphi.
Delphi Archaeological Museum is one of the principal museums of Greece and one of the most visited. It is operated by the Greek Ministry of Culture. Founded in 1903, it has been rearranged several times and houses the discoveries made at the Panhellenic sanctuary of Delphi, which dates from the Late Helladic (Mycenean) period to the early Byzantine era. Organized in fourteen rooms on two levels, the museum mainly displays statues, including the famous Charioteer of Delphi, architectural elements, like the frieze of the Siphnian Treasury, and ex-votos dedicated to the sanctuary of Pythian Apollo, like the Sphinx of Naxos. The exhibition floor space is more than 2270m2, while the storage and conservation rooms (mosaics, ceramics, and metals) take up 558m2.
The Temple of Apollo, god of music, harmony, light, healing, and oracles occupied the most important and prominent position in the Delphic Panhellenic Sanctuary. The edifice with the partially restored colonnade visible today dates to the 4th century BC; it is the third temple built at the same place. The famous oracle, the Pythia, operated inside the temple, the location chosen, according to one tradition, due to a sacred chasm beneath the site emitting vapors, which were inhaled by the Pythia. Some ancient writers state that the Pythia then entered a state of delirium and uttering inarticulate cries, which were then turned into equivocal oracles by the priests. This interpretation is controversial, and has been challenged by scholars such as Joseph Fontenrose and Lisa Maurizio, who argue that the ancient sources uniformly represent the Pythia speaking intelligibly, and giving prophecies in her own voice.

Spyros was amazing and My Athens Transfers was helpful and responsive with everything we needed. We had to adjust the itinerary slightly and it was no problem at all. Highly recommend, tremendous value for money.
We had a wonderful experience on our private tour of Delphi and Thermopylae! 🇬🇷 George, our tour guide, was amazing, knowledgeable, and very friendly. He made the history of Greece come alive and shared so much interesting information along the way. We loved exploring these incredible historical sites and learning more about Greek culture and history. The traditional Greek food was also a wonderful addition to the experience! Everything made for a memorable day, and we highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Athens. Thank you, George, for making our day so special!
George our driver was amazing made us feel very welcome and really couldn’t do enough for us. His communication when it came to picking us up was perfect. Seemed whenever we needed him he was there very, very accommodating (give that man a pay rise). We took our dad, who since he was a child always wanted to go to Thermopylae and Delphi so this was a dream come true for him. It was a breathtaking trip the views were incredible, and to finish what was a perfect day we had a meal at a traditional Greek restaurant at Delphi. George was on hand again to drive us back to Athens, he’s very knowledgeable about all the areas and really was the cherry on top of the cake. What a perfect day, thank you George
We had a fantastic experience on our private tour from Athens to Thermopylae and Delphi with Panos as our driver. He was punctual, knowledgeable, and great to talk to, sharing plenty of interesting information while also knowing when to let us relax and catch a nap. He was always just a text away when we were ready to leave Delphi or Arachova, where we stopped for lunch. He also gave us options throughout the day and was completely flexible with our preferences. It honestly felt like having our own private chauffeur. We couldn’t have asked for a better driver and guide. Highly recommend this tour, especially with Panos!
We had an amazing day seeing the museum and ruins at Delphi, the Leonidas statue at Thermopylae, and the beautiful picturesque ski town of Archova. Panos was great and spent the time to explain the sites to us during the drive. I especially liked that we were given no time limit at each stop. When we asked what time to meet back up with him after we stopped at each location, he said whenever we were done. The restaurant for lunch was so good and the view from the table was stunning! And my friend that has a dairy allergy had no issues finding options on their menu. We were a bit underwhelmed by the center that was dedicated to Leonidas, but that's certainly not this tour's fault. Overall we were very happy with our experience and would definitely recommend.

Had an awesome trip, Notis was our expert in all greek knowledge he was a great chauffeur telling all the history before and after our trips got the best table in the house for our restaurant. Overall amazing seeing Delphi and Thermoplyae and Notis was the best man for it. Thank you NOTIS!
An excellent day, Dimitris was a fantastic guide and a very nice man, made us feel at home and welcome on the trip.would definitely recommend him to anyone who would like to take a trip around Greece, Made a good friend today, and will never forget it, thanks Dimitris 👍
This was such a fantastic day visiting Thermopylae and Delphi. The sites are just amazing, Spyro was incredibly knowledgeable and overall great driver! We really enjoyed our day and Spyro was a big part of why. Cannot recommend enough.
The tour was very interesting. Costa had so much energy and was so knowledgeable about the area and all things Greek. We really enjoyed spending the day with him. The archaeological site at Delphi was so interesting. It was well worth the trip out there!
My tour guide was amazing. He was friendly, knowledgeable and flexible. I would highly recommend this excursion. He even opened the door for my wife and walked up to my hotel to get me when I told him I was unfamiliar with Athens streets.
I wish every day of our trip was as good as the tour day given by Giannis. He made my wife and me very welcome and answered all kinds of questions about the tour and Greece in general. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone. There was great value for the cost of the tour and would be the first thing I would do again on the entire trip.
We were so delighted to find an early morning tour up to Delphi and be able to arrange seeing both Delphi & do Athens on the same day! What a day it was! The company was wonderful to schedule with and excellent at helping me figure the timing etc. our guide was so kind and helpful too! And our stop for lunch in Delphi was over the top!!!’ Thank you
Alex was phenomenal and the ultimate professional. He was a wealth of knowledge and made myself and friend feel very comfortable. Everything was fabulous and classy.
We used MyAthensTransfers for this tour and for airport pick up and drop off for our group. Each time, our driver was on time and professional. The day tour was informative. Delphi was awesome. The spot we went for lunch was beautiful and great. I will say that Thermopylae was really underwhelming. It consists of two statues. This has nothing to do with the tour, but just a spot that was kinda lost to history.
Our driver was excellent, it was a lot of driving in one day and really great to have someone to drive us in a spacious, clean and comfortable vehicle. For 4 of us, the price was only a little more than going on a coach tour, so this felt very good value for money and our driver arranged a table in a wonderful restaurant with epic views for us. It was a highlight of our holiday and the best food we ate in Greece! We did two private tours and two airport transfers with this company and the service & drivers were exceptional. Highly recommend!!
Wow! What a great day! We have been on a lot of tours but this one was truly memorable. We wanted to see Thermopylae and Delphi while on this trip. But what made the trip was our guide, Notis. This tour requires a long car trip together there. The time passed quickly and enjoyably with us just chatting with Notis. Learning about Greek culture, history and other topics. It was like visiting with friends over coffee. Thermopylae has changed over the years but the museum had a great 3-D 12 minute film that answered most questions. The memorial was touching as the story of bravery and loyalty is a great one. Delphi was different. The museum there has the result of many years of excavation, making the site very real. The actual site requires a lot of uphill walking but many spots were awesome. Real History. To recap, Notis is my new Greek friend. I need to ask where else ha can take us. We will gladly go with him again.
Such a great day trip. It is a long day from Athens but worth the drive if interested in the history of the battle and Delphi. Temple of Apollo was the draw. The museum was basically empty and the 3D show was neat. Our driver was amazing and got us there fast and made the trip better. It was hot so be prepared with plenty of water and wear decent shoes up the trek to see the temple, theater and stadium. The Delphi Museum was wonderful and packed with such interesting points but as we were so overheated and tired from the archeological site, we did not take the time the museum deserved. It would have been helpful and more interesting to have a guide inside the archeological site as we did not so just read the various signs.
We had an amazing trip! Everything was really nice. We have visited Thermopylae and Delphi Museum and Arheological Site. On our way back we stop for a lunch which was amazing. Dimitris Tabone was realy helpful and kind. He was asking always if we are ok, if we need a break, he explain to us some things about Delphi. We strongly recommend this trip and this driver.
We had a great tour. Our guide, Notis, was very knowledgeable and informative. His timing was perfect as he knew the itinerary well. He was always ready and waiting for us when we were finished with a destination. I would highly recommend this tour! His vehicle was also comfortable and pristine.
We had an amazing time on this tour. Mike (Menelaus) was the best driver/guide. Mike reached out the night before to introduce himself and confirm pick-up time. The day of the tour, we wanted to skip one stop on the itinerary and instead stop at a shop on the way to purchase honey - Mike was very accommodating. He was a wealth of information, easy to chat with, and provided us with many recommendations for restaurants in Athens. He even thought our daughter might like to attend an outdoor movie near where we were staying, and looking up the information for us. If you are lucky enough to have Mike as your driver/guide, you will not be disappointed.
Our driver Panos was excellent, friendly and professional making the long drive enjoyable by keeping us informed about the places we visited. We would highly recommend this trip to Delphi and the Spartan 300 monument and place where the battle took place, not a lot to see there but still interesting. Lovely lunch in Delphi at a beautiful restaurant. Thank you Panos.
Firstly, I would like to say a hude thank you to Mike our driver. Mike was very friendly and really knowledgeable about the history of thermopylae, Delphi, Athens and most places we drove by. He also recommended us a beautiful restaurant with an incredible view in Delphi. There drive up through the mountains was amazing. We would highly recommend this trip. Car was comfortable spacious with air con. Yet again, thanks Mike for a great day out, you really went above and beyond thank you. Rob and Rachel
If you've ever been to Athens, you know driving can be wild. This tour gave us the opportunity to see sites away from the city, without the stress of trying to get there on our own. Panos our driver was was engaging and informative. He told us so much history, and pointed out notable sites along the way. We left early in the morning and arrived at Thermopylae before any other tourists, which was a pleasant surprise. Delphi is a must see. It could be challenging for some, but having the flexibility with the schedule kept the worry of "missing a bus" or not going fast enough, at bay. Our driver recommended an outstanding local taverna for lunch. Arachova was a delightful surprise. The vibe of the town is very unique, and it is incredibly picturesque. We recommend this tour 100%.
Alex was amazing! He was so knowledgeable and a great conversationalist. Loved the tour as we got see great sights on our own time. Highly recommend.
Alex was fantastic! Super knowledgeable and friendly. We enjoyed the great conversations and the ability to be flexible in how we wanted to spend our days.
A tour we will always remember. Great time, much to see, and great food. Dimitris made it a wonderful trip for our family. Much appreciated
We had a wonderful day visiting Thermoplyae, Delphi and Arachova with Alex today. The restaurant he brought us to for lunch had one of the prettiest views. He was kind enough to suggest alternative places to take pictures instead of walking through town as my husband had recent knee surgery. Thank you Alex for a great tour!
Our driver Alex was very kind and helpful throughout the whole tour, gave excellent tips and even helped us to reserve a restaurant for lunch at Delphi - the restaurant has an amazing view and the food was very nice.
Delphi/Pythos was fantastic, and (at least for me) very worth the long round trip ride. The archaeological site and the museum are one ticket, so you can pick how you want to split your time. Note: you can see *almost* everything fairly easy, but if you want to go all the way to the top to see the Pythian Games stadium, be prepared for a lot of steps, irregular steps, sloped steps, dirt ramps instead of steps, and a descent that is just as difficult. By the time you get above the theater and see the temple from a high vantage, be honest with yourself about how you feel - all that's past there is the stadium and it's about another 15-20 minutes up. Thermopylae is pretty bare; go if you are a big fan of history or military battles, there's mostly just a plaque and a statue - the pass itself has eroded away flat and the sea has receded, so it can be tricky to see the strategic importance of the site. Lunch and a walk in the villages was great. The driver made arrangements at a great local taverna that used very local ingredients to make a lot of great traditional Greek dishes. There were a lot of great scenic views along the way too. Hills, valleys, mountains in the distance, the gulf, and just a lot of natural landscapes you won't see in Athens. The driver was very friendly, knowledgeable, and responded well to unexpected external challenges. He knew a lot about the sites, but also just the area in general, and other sites and attractions that weren't on this tour that I still might like to see.
Nick was a great driver and his Mercedes van had very comfortable seating for 12. Going with Nick allowed us to get a little ahead of the massive tour bus crowds. Delphi was amazing. Nick booked our group into a lovely restaurant for lunch after Delphi - authentic Greek country food & stunning views from its elevated spot down to the coastline. There isn’t much to see at Thermopylae (which we already knew and wanted to go anyway). Be aware the museum closes early on Fridays so we missed that. Overall, Nick took good care of our group and it was a memorable day. Also be aware that with Athens traffic and the rain, the tour took just over 11 hours rather than 9-10.
It was really great to visit theromphili and Delphi, the driver Dimitris was really good and informative, though a bit slow for our liking, still an amazing trip though
Excellent experience, very interesting trip and perfect care and explanations from Panos! Recommended!
It was an excellent day trip. Exactly what we were hoping for. Our driver, Michael, was courteous, helpful and knowledgeable. I highly recommend the tour for anyone interested in Greek history, mythology, and landscapes.
We had an amazing tour and driver. Spiros navigated the hills from Thermopylae to Delphi and beyond like a pro, and provided valuable insights. He has a great sense of humor and feel for when to start a conversation or let us zone out on the long drive. We originally did a half day trip to Mycenea and were so impressed we immediately booked the full day trip to Delphi. Well worth it, and can't wait to come back and try other trips. Communication with Aris to arrange the driver and pickup point beforehand was perfect as well.
George was amazing! Very knowledgeable and personable. This might be the best tour we’ve taken and George recommended a fantastic family restaurant with a gorgeous view in Delphi. Would recommend this tour to anyone!
Our Tour guide Padres was very accommodating and understood what we wanted out of the experience. His understanding of the history and his English made it unforgettable.
Costas was very good. Kept us informed and made the drive enjoyable. A lot of fun facts about Greek history I never knew. The places in delphi cost 20 euros per adult but were very cool. We left around 7am and got back around 5-6
We felt so lucky to have Michael as our driver. In addition to his professionalism as a driver, he shared his perspectives on life in Greece and also gave us great recommendations. (Including a fantastic tavern in Delphi for lunch) Thanks, Michael!
We had a great trip. Before the trip, they communicated clearly with us about where to park our car, pickup point, pickup time etc. Nicholas was a great driver! If you had any questions, or felt like you needed to stop somewhere you could just ask him. He also had cooled water with him in the car which was also very nice. He also drove very smoothly so we didn’t worry for a second. He also made reservations for an amazing restaurant at the village next to Delphi, which had great food and an even better view! We were very happy with Nick as our driver! Thermopylae was also very impressive (especially is you understand the history). Delphi was one of the largest sites we’ve been to and definitely one of the most beautiful. Delphi is a little bit of a hike from top to bottom, but definitely worth it. We also really loved the Delphi museum, which had a beautiful mixed collection (a few shields and helmets, mostly sculptures). All and all, this was our favourite day here in Greece!j
Tremendous experience and worth the money in every way! Thanks for amazing memories and the highlight of my vacation!
We had an amazing family day in Delphi. Thank you for assisting us create this travel experience and memories from our visit to this historic site. We would like to thank our driver, George, for his insights. Based on his recommendation, we had a delicious lunch at a family run restaurant, that used local ingredients in its meals. Thank you My Athens Transfers.
This was an amazing trip. It combined the historic with incredible countryside views and the prettiest of ski resort towns in a single day. The restaurant selected for lunch was stunning both from the food and the views from the rear terrace, we felt like we were eating on a cliff surrounded by the most spectacular scenery imaginable! Our guide Alex was so kind, knowledgable and helpful it made our trip even better.
Thermoplyae was interesting and we did learn about the battle of the 300 Spartans, from here we moved on to Delphi which was incredible, it is a bit of a walk and just when you think you have seen it all you turn a corner and there is more, well worth the climb to the top to see the stadium. From here to the museum which held many interesting artifacts. We then visited a local restaurant recommended and booked for us by our driver Costa, a walk around the town and back to the car for the return journey to Athens. Costa was an absolute pleasure to have as our driver, he was helpful and knowledgeable answering all our questions along the way.
We had a wonderful time with Costa. He was so entertaining and knowledgeable. The drive seems to go unnoticed, because of the information. I would highly recommend asking for on your next tour.
Our driver/guide was Alex. He picked us up on time and we headed out on a long day of touring. Alex had water which was great. He showed the sites of Athens as we headed north towards Thermopyles. I had researched it and knew there was not much there and that was correct. The land has changed so much. The statue and memorial was there but under construction so we could not get close. We visited the small visitor center and saw the video which was worth it. So unless you are really to history and want a picture, Thermopyles is a long drive. Now Delphi I think is a must. Alex got us there and on the way shared with us some of the history of Delphi. It is very mountainous which I did not expect. Alex recommended a very nice lunch place that we enjoyed. Highly recommend Alex and the tour.
We had a wonderful day touring this beautiful country with George. He was very knowledgeable of the areas we visited and was able to answer any questions we had about the history of. The food at the little restaurant was fresh, authentic and delicious.
Costa was a wonderful driver full of great information about everywhere we went. Delphi is absolutely amazing….and big! Be ready for a lot of steps and ramps. It is worth it to go all the way to the top. Thermopylae was underwhelming. If you are tight on time skip it. But was nice to say we were there and the movie at the visitor’s Center was educational. Overall an amazing experience.
I can’t put into words how breathtaking the view is from the Temple of Apollo and the lunch we had afterword. It was unfortunate The Statue of Leonids was left underwhelming ,but the area is still one to feel. Our tour guide Notis was very interactive and incredibly informative throughout the long drive. He kept you engaged with history and even the modern day climate of Greece. He kept us laughing and made the drive feel shorter than what it was. You’re lucky if you get him as your tour guide. Overall, I would highly recommend this tour based on our experience.
