Livadeia is a town in central Greece. It is the capital of the Boeotia regional district. The area around Livadeia is mountainous, with farming activities mainly confined to the valleys. The area has traditionally been associated with the production and processing of cotton and tobacco, as well as the cultivation of cereal crops and the raising of livestock. The city is also known for having participated in the War of Troy in allegiance with Mycenae.
Hosios Loukas is a historic walled monastery situated near the town of Distomo, in Boeotia, Greece. It is one of the most important monuments of Middle Byzantine architecture and art and has been listed on UNESCO's World Heritage Sites, along with the monasteries of Nea Moni and Daphnion. The monastery of Hosios Loukas is situated at a scenic site on the slopes of Mount Helicon. It was founded in the early 10th century AD by the hermit, Venerable (Greek: Hosios) Luke of Steiris (Greek: Lukas), whose relics are kept in the monastery to this day. The main shrine of the monastery is the tomb of St. Luke, originally situated in the vault, but later placed at the juncture of the two churches. The monastery derived its wealth (including funds required for construction) from the fact that the relics of St. Luke were said to have exuded myron, a sort of perfumed oil which produced healing miracles.
Mount Parnassus is a mountain in central Greece that towers above Delphi, north of the Gulf of Corinth. Mount Parnassus offers many advantages to the population of Greece. In peace, it possesses scenic views of the countryside and features olive groves and rolling hills. The mountain is also the location of historically, archaeologically, and culturally significant places of interest (such as Delphi). Recreationally, the slopes of Parnassus provide a medium for hiking (in the three warm seasons) and are skied in winter. Its melting snows provide water to the surrounding communities, reaching out as far as Athens. The mountain is composed of limestone, and its rock contains bauxite, ore that is rich in aluminum. In war, Parnassus has been a center of resistance if need be, providing cover and refuge to partisans.
Arachova is a mountain town and a former municipality in the western part of Boeotia, Greece, originally called Karyai (also spelled Caryae). Its name is of South Slavic origin and denotes a place with walnut trees. It is a tourist destination due to its location in the mountains, its traditions, and its proximity to the town of Delphi. Arachova has a panoramic view, uphill small houses, and the cobbled streets show a picturesque architecture. The town center includes a huge and steep cliff, the Bell Tower, covered with dense ivy. At the top of the tower is a large 10m height clock. Arachova is famous for its black wine, its "brusque", the colorful textiles, carpets and rugs, handicrafts, and woodcut creations as well.
Arrival at the archaeological site of Delphi. Free time for a walk at: - sanctuaries of Apollo and Athena Pronaia - ancient stadium and theater
Delphi Archaeological Museum is one of the principal museums of Greece and one of the most visited. It is operated by the Greek Ministry of Culture. Founded in 1903, it has been rearranged several times and houses the discoveries made at the Panhellenic sanctuary of Delphi, which dates from the Late Helladic (Mycenean) period to the early Byzantine era. Organized in fourteen rooms on two levels, the museum mainly displays statues, including the famous Charioteer of Delphi, architectural elements, like the frieze of the Siphnian Treasury, and ex-votos dedicated to the sanctuary of Pythian Apollo, like the Sphinx of Naxos. The exhibition floor space is more than 2270m2, while the storage and conservation rooms (mosaics, ceramics, and metals) take up 558m2.
The Temple of Apollo, god of music, harmony, light, healing, and oracles occupied the most important and prominent position in the Delphic Panhellenic Sanctuary. The edifice with the partially restored colonnade visible today dates to the 4th century BC; it is the third temple built at the same place. The famous oracle, the Pythia, operated inside the temple, the location chosen, according to one tradition, due to a sacred chasm beneath the site emitting vapors, which were inhaled by the Pythia. Some ancient writers state that the Pythia then entered a state of delirium and uttering inarticulate cries, which were then turned into equivocal oracles by the priests. This interpretation is controversial, and has been challenged by scholars such as Joseph Fontenrose and Lisa Maurizio, who argue that the ancient sources uniformly represent the Pythia speaking intelligibly, and giving prophecies in her own voice.

We took a private day trip to Delphi from Athens. Great trip, worth every penny. Alex is a rock star! An outstanding guide and an excellent driver. He is extremely knowledgeable about Greek History and many other subjects. We had several nice pit stops to get coffee and an amazing authentic Greek lunch after Delphi. An unforgettable trip, you won’t regret it!
Fantastic trip! Delphi was incredible. I cannot recommend it enough. Dimitriso Tabone was an excellent guide. He gave us great information and was incredibly friendly. We learned so much from him. Thanks for the great experience
Alex and Nick were great! So accommodating, informative, and they planned our tour with the perfect stops. Alex, our driver, made us feel safe and comfortable in the large suv and we were able to nap on the way back. Because of this we were not exhausted when we got back to Athens :). Alex always had the car turned on and ready to go when we finished with our stop, and on top of that, WIFI in the car, and water bottles readily available. We also decided to add on a private tour guide, and Nick did a fantastic job. Having a guide really brought the history and mythology to life. From the moment we started driving from Athens he was pointing areas of significance for us to check out later and even some food recommendations. He was well spoken, easy to understand, and well versed in the stops we went to and the history of Greece in general. Please don’t hesitate booking this tour. We couldn’t be happier with our decision. 10/10 recommend
We couldn't have enjoyed our trip with Alex more. He was knowledgeable, courteous, and completely flexible to our schedule and interests. Delphi is an extraordinary site and worth the trip to see the monumental bronze Charioteer.
Costa was an amazing guide. Attentive and knowledgeable
Well paced transport to both the Delphi site and the museum, along with a stop at a beautiful monastery. But you’ll be pressured to have a meal at driver Mike’s lunch spot. The view is appealing and the food is fine, but Mike clearly has a relationship with the place and he was frank about “the way things work“, which we took as a hint that he gets a commission for bringing people there. He’s a good driver, but his personality is a bit of a handful…he will debate even small details with you. And the trip is a bit pricey for what’s provided.
Mike Iliadis was our driver. He was very good. He provided a good level of detail about the sites we visited and paced the timing well. He also answered my many questions about Greece — history, economy, traditions, politics — and patiently. He helped us adjust our plans to fit our evening schedule and traffic conditions. He did a great job of getting us a lunch reservation with a beautiful view and authentic Greek cuisine. He also knew all the places with clean bathroom stops. Highly recommend.
Loved St. Lucas monastery. It is a must see. Some of the most beautiful mosaics ever. And Delphi is amazing. Walk all the way to the top! It’s worth it. And we had lunch at the most beautiful location overlooking Corinth Gulf. And Michael was great. It was all so incredible!
We really enjoyed this well organized, private, friendly and professional tour. Spiros, our driver and tour guide was very pleasant, knowledgeable and accommodating he gave us tons of information and advice and plenty of time to make our site visits unrushed and at our own pace. Lunch was at a good local restaurant with an amazing view of the gulf of Corinth, and plenty of good local choices, with friendly staff. Delphi and St Lukas monastery are a must see. We highly recommend this private tour.
Our first two tours in our three-week Mediterranean trip was with My Athens Transfers and they were absolutely wonderful! We had many other tours, with other companies, throughout the trip, but these two tours stand out as the very best! Our first trip was the half day tour to Corinth and the Acrocorinth, which had incredible views! Stéphanos was our driver. We really enjoyed his story-telling and his passion for the history of his country. Our second trip, the next day, was to Delphi and the Monastery of Hosios Loukas. Delphi was fascinating, as expected, but the Monastery was beyond expectation. If you’re a lover of early medieval art, you must go! Our driver, Petros, was phenomenal. We learned a lot from him and he also booked us a beautiful table, with stunning views, at a great restaurant in Delphi. Both Stéphanos and Petros were kind, interesting, fun, and accommodating. We enjoyed having two informative drivers and then the chance to explore on our own. We also loved the door to door pick-up and safe return. If I ever have the privilege of returning to Greece, I will exclusively book through this company!
We had a wonderful day trip to Delphi with Petros as our driver. He was very well-organized, punctual, and drove safely throughout the journey. Petros is also a great conversationalist with a deep knowledge of Greek history—his insights really enriched our understanding of the sites we visited. One of the highlights was the lunch he arranged at a local restaurant with beautiful views—it was the perfect break during our trip and a great way to experience local cuisine. Petros is more than just a driver—he’s a true local expert who made our Delphi trip smooth, informative, and memorable. Highly recommended!
Immersive historical experiences. So glad we saw Delphi and Monastery. It’s worth the trip from Athens if you can devote the day to it.
We spent the day staring around in disbelief. How in the world are we seeing all of this in person? Our driver, Panos was prompt and courteous. He was very knowledgeable about all things Greek and would answer as many questions as we asked (and was quiet during the nap on the drive home). He made sure we knew exactly where to go and would pick us up in minutes from our request. Best of all, we were free to decide how long we wanted to stay in each location along the way. It’s a very full day, but this is the way to do it if you can.
The whole day was fantastic. Spiros, our guide was amazing — knowledgeable and fun. I would recommend MyAthensTransfers without hesitation and hope to use them again.
Perfect! Our driver Fotis did a great job informing us along our journey. Lots of great recommendations as well. Could not have been better. Highly recommended!
We absolutely loved our day with Notis, thank you! We learned so much about Greek history, culture, and cuisine. His recommendation for lunch was excellent! There are quite a few steps at the temple and not that many railings. Something to keep in mind if someone in your party has mobility issues. It sprinkled on and off making the steps/paths slippery. Tennis shoes or hiking shoes with grip are a must. Such a fantastic day with breathtaking views, once in a lifetime experiences, the olive grove and learning about traditional harvesting was unbelievable.
The monastery was one of the most peaceful and charming places we have ever visited. And Delphi itself is steeped in history. Our driver/guide was excellent - knowledgeable and flexible. We thoroughly enjoyed the day.
I’m am so happy I booked this trip to Delphi! Our driver was so knowledgeable and kind. We saw so many beautiful places and arrived there seamlessly. We were not stuck with a large crowd ever and it felt like we could move and flow at our own speed. Our driver made sure we had water and coffee the whole time and was an endless well of knowledge! He also took us to a beautiful restaurant to eat in Delphi and then we got to walk around the little town on the way out with stunning views and cobblestone streets. It was the perfect start to our trip!
We had Costa. He was personable and full of information. He made the tour stress free. It was like having a tour by a family member from Greece. Going through the City of Delphi after the Monastery, Delphi and the museum was the icing on the cake. I highly recommend Costa. We travel a lot and he is the best driver that we have ever had. Tony and Denise Highshaw
The driver Spyros was so professional and personable, he made the trip very stress free. His English is great and his attitude ensures you have a good time. The tour was leisurely, and you were able to tour at whatever speed was comfortable for you. The sites are of course amazing. We partook of the included lunch. The restaurant had incredible views and delicious Greek food. All in all a great day.
Fotis was an amazing. He was on time, polite, and very courteous. He was extremely knowledgeable about Greece and its history. I would highly recommend.
Unforgettable day! 3 sons ages 17,20,22 and myself from USA all loved this experience! We loved leaving the driving to our excellent guide Panos. Great conversation including lots of facts and information on the areas we visited as well as insight and fun facts about current-day Greek life. The lunch spot is beautiful- food was amazing and the small town we visited on the way back was charming. Book this trip- worth every penny! Ask for Panos as your guide!
Our trip was incredible! We really wanted to see the ruins at Delphi but weren’t sure how best to access it, and we’re so glad we booked this tour. The monastery wasn’t on our radar at first but it was well worth the stop. Our driver Anthony was the best!! A wonderful and safe driver (even in rush hour Athens traffic!) who was also informative, professional, timely, and so sweet. He provided great context and historical information throughout the drive, and at the sites. Our day was seamless and very well thought out thanks to him! Would fully recommend this tour and especially Anthony!
The Monestary was beautiful and very peaceful. We loved walking around there. I was surprised how large it was. Visiting Delphi was also beautiful. We had a great weather day with a great view. George was our tour guide and he was always very accommodating and great to work with.
Our driver Panos and our guide George were just top notch. We were treated royally. We couldn’t have asked for better, more informative guides than these two. Easy to understand, full of Greek knowledge and friendly. What a great combination! The tour showed us the Greek countryside and villages that are common in this part of Greece. Seeing goat-herders, numerous olive trees and farms growing corn and other vegetables was enlightening too. A visit to an ancient Monastery and Church were inspiring. Getting away from the hectic city life gave us a different view entirely of Greece. Walking through the ski town and seeing snow at the top of the mountains was incredible. We enjoyed our delicious lunch in a family run cafe complete with an amazing view. This tour was both informative and relaxing due to our fabulous guides. Thank you George and Panos!!!
A fabulous day out in the mountains! Our driver, Panos and guide George were informative and entertaining. The monastery, Temple of Apollo, and museum were fabulous. Lunch was included in a wonderful Cafe with a view. We ordered whatever we wanted. A stroll through a small picturesque village was a perfect ending. A great escape to country life in Greece.
What a great day! Our guides were knowledgeable and great fun! They were accommodating and kind. Highly recommend.
Wonderful day with George. All day was perfect, stunning views and many stops for photos.George was very informative and gave us a lot of information about the places we visited and Greek history. He also recommended us an excellent local restaurant with a great view.We had a great day.We are recommending this tour to everyone.
Professional and knowledgable guide that answered all of our questions! This is the third tour we got with this company and the service level is excellent! Highly recommended!
Gregory was amazing. Very intelligent and friendly young man. Excellent driver as well. Definitely the best driver we’ve had/seen in Europe. He was ready and waiting for us outside of our hotel lobby in a pristinely clean Mercedes van. My wife napped on the smooth 3ish hour ride to Delphi while I had a nice conversation with Gregory. On the way back I couldn’t resist a little siesta myself. Overall terrific service and experience. Would definitely go on another tour with this company and would gladly request Gregory again.
Tom was a superb driver and guide! He has a great sense of humor and wit. Our journey to Delphi is now a memorable experience. Thank you, Tom!
Had a wonderful time. The ruins were great! The driver, Tom was very professional and made sure I was comfortable and happy.
George was our driver/host for the day, he spoke English very well and it was a pleasure to travel with him. He drove calmly and measured, making for a very pleasant day. George stopped at a few stops along the way to allow us to take pictures or to describe a bit of history. He organised lunch for us at a wonderful restaurant (most Mains under 10 euro) with a reserved table to soak in the awesome view (picture). We were able to see everything at our own pace, which is the advantage of going privately. Definitely recommend using Athens Transfers. oh and Delphi is a must see...
George provided excellent service, we are so glad we went to Delphi with him. He made everything easy and gave us great information.
Delphi was amazing! Yiannis our driver was very kind and helpful. The views along the way were beautiful, lunch was delicious, and Delphi itself although we were hot and sweating - we would do it again in a heartbeat!
Smooth, comfortable ride to Delphi. George is a nice, handsome person, who has a lot of details to tell and he made the day perfect for us.
We enjoyed our day with George K, who picked us up in a Mercedes van with all of the comforts needed for the 2:15 drive to Delphi from Athens. George is fluent in English, making for good conversation along the way. We chose not to use a guide, instead simply enjoying the beautiful scenery of Delphi and its historic sites, as well as the lovely town of Arachova. After seeing the Delphi ruins, we stopped for lunch in town (Cafe Dion) before going to Arachova. We were able to see everything at our own pace, which is the advantage of going privately. Yes, yes you can do the drive yourself, but we elected to save ourselves the stress....it was a good decision and we thoroughly enjoyed our day. December is a GREAT time to visit Athens and Delphi. Weather in the 50s and 60s F and sunny skies and, best of all, no crowds!
The visit to Delphi was a very important part of the trip. Our driver was very helpful and even got us a snack for the journey. I am so grateful that I chose this trip and travelled to Delphi on it.
Very nice trip and a great driver. Didn’t force us to keep to time which I like. He also gave us time to visit a nearby town to have lunch which is something we can’t get from a normal tour bus. This was a little pricey, but better than expected and to avoid the heafty tour buses, well worth it.
We had the most wonderful day trip to Delphi with our driver, Rafael. He picked us up at our hotel promptly at 8:00 a.m., and despite heavy rush hour traffic in Athens, we arrived at Delphi well before the tour bus crowds. He told us to take as long as we needed at the site and museum, so we did not feel rushed, and he had cold bottles of water waiting for us when we returned to the car. We stopped in Arachova for lunch, and again we were completely unhurried. Rafael was extremely courteous and professional, and provided interesting information about the local area as he drove. This private taxi service is absolutely worth the additional money it costs versus a group tour, and I would recommend this day trip to anyone. Everything about it was excellent.
We, a family of 3 took a full day private tour to Delfi. It's super worth it as you get to go on your own pace with had a really good driver with us who even made a quick stop for water and at a pharmacy. Nikos was friendly, nice and shared some history along as we passed thru Athens to Delfi. We left early at 8:30am to beat the tour bus crowds as it looks like they all arrive at the same time more or less and it gets crowded over at the site. We even stop by at Arachova and our driver Nikos was kind to take some pics for us. Views were amazing. I thought Yosemite National park views were good. These were awesome. We are glad we took a private tour. Overall a great experience. I would recommend. It's worth it.
Our driver Aris was prompt and friendly and drove a very comfortable Mercedes. He answered all our questions and suggested a great local taverna in Delphi away from the tour bus crowds. A great day out.
Guide- Menelaus (Mike) very good. Excellent.
Excellent Service, the guide super professional, polite and helpful, excellent!!! Highly recommended, knew everything you asked and very kindly answered your doubts, excellent person!!!
