It was such a wonderful and memorable experience. We had the chance to bake delicious Greek pastries, enjoy some beautiful traditional dishes, and really feel the warmth of Greek hospitality. Everything was fresh, authentic, and full of flavor, but what made the experience even more special was Christina. She was absolutely amazing — welcoming, kind, passionate, and very knowledgeable. She made the whole experience feel personal, relaxed, and truly enjoyable. It was more than just food; it was a beautiful cultural and culinary experience. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to enjoy authentic Greek flavors, learn something new, and spend a lovely time in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Itinerary
Step into Christina’s welcoming kitchen in Athens and discover the centuries-old tradition of Greek pie-making, recognized by UNESCO as part of the Mediterranean diet. This cooking class specializes in phyllo, the delicate, paper-thin dough at the heart of Greece’s beloved savory pies. Begin with a traditional Greek coffee, then enjoy a hands-on lesson in making spanakopita, a quintessential Greek dish. Christina will guide you through every step, starting from scratch with just flour and water. You’ll use seasonal ingredients like wild spinach, local greens, and Greek cheeses to craft your filling. At Christina’s dining table, you’ll roll your dough into thin sheets, learning how to layer it into a light, flaky crust. You’ll leave with printed recipes to recreate the experience at home. The cooking lasts about two hours, followed by a shared meal featuring the spanakopita you made - alongside seasonal dishes Christina has prepared. Enjoy it with Tsipouro, wine, and a delicious dessert. Optional: Join Christina for a 1-hour walking market tour to visit her favorite cheesemonger, deli, and bakery. Learn about traditional Greek ingredients before heading back to cook together.

Christina was such an incredible host and teacher. We were welcomed into her wonderful apartment and she took her time to get to know us, and also told us about herself and her neighborhood. We visited several shops, including a vegetable grocer, cheese monger, a bakery, and a winery where we sampled our new favorite wine, retzina! This cooking lesson took place on the birthday of one of our kids, who is very interested in pursuing culinary arts. Christina was so natural, delegating tasks for cutting up vegetables to be used in salads, the spanikopita, and finally, the preparation of the filo dough. This is such a painstaking process, and Christina was the perfect guide, patient with all of us, and so warm. We all ate together, a delicious meal of chicken, cooked perfectly in the oven with eggplant and zucchini, salads, including rusk served with tomatoes and olives, and of course, the spanikopita. We finished it all off with spoon sweet of bergamot. We left as friends, eager to stay connected and to practice Christina's excellent recipes once we return home. We highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Greece who is eager to have a real, intimate lesson on how to cook some of the best food in the world. Christina, efcharisto poli! Have a wonderful summer!
Christina is undoubtedly a very talented chef. One of the best spinach pies I've ever eaten. It was really fun to participate in the preparation.
Great experience! The hostess was very warm and made us feel welcome, like we were friends cooking together. The lesson was fun and we all participated in every step. I liked how we ensured the perfect crust for the phyllo, by slicing the pie for moisture to escape, but sprinkling the top with water as well. I will try it at home to impress my friends, especially Greeks who I don't think had a perfect spanakopita in a while. The meal Christina prepared was also beautiful. Overall highly recommended.
Christina was an amazing host! The lesson had all the steps with every detail on the technique. She was very friendly and answered to all the questions. I actually learned how to make spanakopita and put it to the test with the recipe she gave us. It came out really great! loved the meal, the atmosphere, the jokes, the alcohol, everything! Cheers, Christina!
A truly original experience. Coming from Italy, I value traditional cuisine and a welcoming culture. I couldn’t find a better experience than the one offered by Christina. A great host with deep knowledge of and passion for Greek cuisine, opens her house to share this ever lasting tradition of Greek phyllo with the world. Thank you 🙏
One super valuable experience, cause under Christina's guidance we learnt and participated in opening "fullo" for greek pita, an art that will most probably vanish. Christina took care of us with good music, friends, and traditional treats such as dolmadakia, giouvetsi/spetzofai, an amazing anchovy mint salad, and many more. She also didnt miss to teach us traditions from all over Greece, pita related ofc. Thank you very much for your effort, it really made my day.
Great experience. Much better than what I expected. Cristina is a very nice person, very patient, and a great teacher. I can only recommend it! It was really worth it.
Had the most amazing day. Christina the phyllo-dough teacher is professional, witty, smart and kind. Speaks english very well. She knows her history and gave us a tour at the central market in Athens before the cooking class began. Would definitely recommend.
Oh my God! This was by far the most fun I have had in Athens. Christina taught my husband and I (and 3 others in our group) how to prepare authentic Greek phyllo dough from scratch in her kitchen. She will teach you to make the ubiquitous flaky Greek dough - starting with flour and water! - and together you will prepare a traditional pie. She will teach you, step by step, how to make the pie filling using seasonal ingredients like wild spinach and other greens and a variety of fresh cheeses (you might mix the filling in the sink since it is her biggest receptacle!). You mix the dough, learn to roll it into paper-thin sheets on her dining table, and layer the pie with the filling. She will show you how to carefully lay the delicate sheets of phyllo in the pan, which results in a light, crispy pie.
I want to give this 10/5 stars! Christina took us into her lovely Athens home and treated us like family. By the end we had made the best spanakopita I've had in Greece, shared stories, and had an authentic Athenian experience. Christina is also a tour guide so she will have many recommendations and answers to your questions about the city. I cannot recommend this enough, seriously.
Even though there was a mixup in timing on our part, Christina very gratiously took us in and proceeded to teach some old timers her very successful method for producing phyllo dough. Her hospitality exceeded our expectations and when we left it was like leaving an old friend.
Christina was a gracious host, and wonderful culinary teacher who we had the pleasure of spending some time with on our trip to Greece. We made a delicious classic spinach pie together, phyllo and all, and she was kind enough to include cooking saganaki with us after we mentioned we were curious about making it. She also prepped some side dishes we could enjoy with the main dished which were very tasty as well. What I'll remember most is the welcoming environment she creates, and her thoughtful conversation, and her cat too :)
Super friendly it felt like I was visiting a friend house more than a class , it was simple and fun and very delicious 😋
Christina is the master of phyllo! She takes some flour, a little bit of water, some olive oil, does a little bit of magic, and voila! there you've got it, a tasty traditional greek spinach pie! Extra bonus: lots of fun throughout the process, from a caring instructor! Thank you, Christina!
Some people are simply the best. Best teacher ever, making everything look so simple. Thanks Christina!!! :*
My friend and I had the opportunity to take a cooking class with Christina while in Athens and really enjoyed it! Christina was a wonderful host who welcomed us with greek coffee (and a little traditional fun future reading in the coffee) and then taught us how to make a traditional phyllo pastry pie with spinach and feta cheese! It was hands on and we both got to have a try in rolling out the pastry super thin! It was great to have someone so informative as Christina guiding us through it as we learned so much, not just about the pie baking, but greek traditions and history in general. She's so easy to be around and we had great conversations and many laughs. She had prepared a whole delicious meal while we were waiting for the pie to bake, which turned out absolutely delicious! (We had the leftovers for breakfast the next morning ;) ). It was a beautiful experience and we both can absolutely recommend Christina to anyone looking for a fun and interesting greek cooking experience! Thanks so much Christina, until next time! :)
Christina was a good teacher, great english and baking skills—it was a fun time! She followed up with a recipe that she emailed. I would do it (with a different traditional recipe) again.
My wife and I were convinced that Phyllo was something made by magical elves because human hands could create it (well at least not ours). Christina changed all that! We had a wonderful evening at her home talking, laughing, and making spanikopita! It was our first traveling spoon experience but it is only the beginning. We loved it! Thank you Christina for making it a fantastic evening.
We were excited for our first Traveling Spoon experience and it did not disappoint! Christina's apartment is easy to find and she is great at communicating through email and answering any questions. There were four of us and she took time to get to know us before starting the lesson. Aprons and water was provided as she started her lesson. We all had a task to do throughout the lesson while making the phyllo and the filling. She was nice and walked us through all the steps. We would highly recommend this experience!
Christina was a pleasure to spend time with. We learned the traditional way to make spinach pie, and were served a wonderful traditional meal. Seeing how a regular Athenian lives was a bonus! Would recommend to anyone !!! Thank you for the experience
We had a wonderful time learning from and visiting with Christina. She graciously welcomed us into her home and made us feel comfortable trying something we’ve never cooked before. This cooking experience with Christina made our time in Athens extra special and we highly recommend it. We can’t wait to impress our friends back home with a delicious phyllo pie!
We are in a habit to learn a new skill every county we travel to. And Athens was no deferent, after searching the local directory we have found Christina Drangana A professional chef with extraordinary passion for phyllo dough. We were very happy to find her as we like the local spanakopita very match. The minute we meet Christina It felt like we are a long time fiends, she is so welcoming and We have some refreshment and a very nice talk about Greece, Athens and the best places to visit in Athens. Next we started with the preparations, it was hand on and we loved it, Christina shared her skills with us and soon we started to roll the phyllo dough ourselves. Christina guide us thru the process, and we end up making a grate spanakopita moist full with green speech and feta cheese. We set to the table enjoy our spanakopita and continue our grate time with Christina Going back home we took with us some of the spanakopita. The next time we are in Athens we will take one of Christina’s food tours. Thank you Christina for the grate time and for the phyllo dough skill, now we make spanakopita for our family and Frind thank to you. Do yourself a favor and meet Christina she will change the way you look at Athens. Thank you Christina we will meet again soon.
Christina is not only an experienced professional chef, but also a very heartwarming and friendly host. As a cooking teacher, she patiently taught me how to make phyllo dough step by step, and told me every single tip for making a good Spanakopita. As a host, she made me feel like at home and with my best friend. She selflessly shared everything that she knows about Athens and Greek culture. You can definitely feel her love for Greece and tell her passions for food. I would be happy to recommend Christina's class as I've gained much more from her than just a cooking recipe.
Christina is such an amazing teacher and host. The spanakopita we made was delicious!! I never thought about making my own phyllo ever, so it was such a fun experience. In addition, Christina brought my partner and I to all the local shops (cheese shop, wine shop, bakery) where we bought things like feta and vegetables and bread for the recipe and for lunch. As a host, she was not only able to talk about food, but also about Greek culture, history and politics -- in case you have questions on it. Christina worked in the restaurant industry years back and is studying to be an official tour guide in Athens - which takes about 2 years, so she really knows her stuff. Cooking and eating with her was such a pleasure - sort of like cooking and eating with a very knowledgeable friend. It was an experience I would not forget and I would recommend her class to anyone.
