This tour was a highlight of our trip, largely due to our tour guide, Manos. Manos built the agenda around experiences we wanted. We had a great time with a dip in the sea and lingering quite a while at the Temple of Poseidon. Manos was generous with his time as well as his knowledge. He never rushed us, and did a fantastic job answering questions with well articulated responses. I really enjoyed the way Manos held a dialogue vice giving a simple answer. We also appreciated the way Manos ensured the level of detail was just right. 3 words to describe Manos: kind, insightful, entertaining.

What a wonderful day spent with Thomas in Athens! Coming off of a cruise ship we had only one day to visit Athens before returning home. Thomas made that one day memorable. Because we had been in Athens prior we wanted to see something new. We asked Thomas to take us to the temple of posiden and a beach. We saw many non touristy beautiful sceneries and also enjoyed the beach and ruins. Our drive was pleasant and beside scenery was filled with history, culture and friendly discussions. He learned we wanted to buy some olive oil and baklava and found just the right spots to do so even calling ahead to put aside the product for us! We had a wonderful day with Thomas feeling spoiled and pampered. We feel we have made a new friend in Athens as well! If we are ever back in the area we will definitely use his services again!
I am travelling through Greece with my 15 year old daughter. We booked a tour from Athens to Cape Sounio and the Temple of Poseidon. Nikos was an excellent guide - at the end we felt we had a new friend. He is a polymath - with multiple degrees and interests, currently completing a degree in Archeology. He was a wealth of information and presented it in a very engaging way for both myself and my daughter. We had asked to spend some time outdoors in nature and he took us to two sites which were outstandingly beautiful and significant - we would never have known about these places on our own. He was very kind to my daughter, always making sure she was comfortable and included. We can't speak highly enough - this was really a perfect day in a beautiful part of the world with a lovely person.
We spent Christmas in Athens and wanted one day outside the city. We chose the trip to Cape Sounion and Nikos because of his interest in history and archaeology. Because of the time of the year, we were not interested in a beach stop but wanted a coastal drive and lunch in a local restaurant. We also asked him to suggest anything else of interest in the area. He collected us from our hotel at 9.30 a.m. The drive to Cape Sounion was stunningly beautiful. On the way, he provided interesting information about ancient and modern Athens. He was very easy to talk to, and we enjoyed the conversation. At Sounion ,we had all the time we wanted to explore the temple precinct, soak up the atmosphere and marvel at the play of sea, distant mountains and light. Afterwards , he took us to the ancient silver mines in Lavrio. This area was new to us. Nikos gave us detailed explanations of the history of the area, the ancient mining processes and also showed us the stone theatre. Afterwards, we went to a small taverna for an excellent local. lunch . We arrived back at the hotel shortly before five. Nikos was an exceedingly pleasant and knowledgeable companion. He was thoughtful and understanding of my reduced mobility and completely fulfilled all our expectations for the day.
I decided to book this tour with John only some hours before the starting time and it was the best decision! John did his best to make it work even if he was on an other tour in the morning! Thank you so much John for the great afternoon with wonderfull places and views and so many interresting discussions and informations! I recommand this tour with John for sure and would book again with him for other tours when I will go back to Athens!
What a perfect experience. Our day trip to the Temple of Poseidon with Nikos was nothing short of magical! From the moment we left Athens, Nikos made the journey so much more than just a road trip to an archaeological site. His deep knowledge and passion for Athens and his enthusiasm for sharing the region’s beauty were absolutely infectious. He showed us stunning viewpoints and breathtaking natural landscapes. What made the experience even more special was the hidden architectural gem Nikos shared with us…a site we never would have discovered on our own. He truly went above and beyond, even taking us to an incredible lunch at a local spot. This wasn’t just a tour…it was an unforgettable adventure led by someone who clearly loves what he does. If you’re looking for a personalized and enriching experience outside of Athens, we can’t recommend Nikos highly enough!
My husband and I selected to tour Cape Sounio and the Temple of Poseidon with Thomas as our guide. The pre-tour communication was just a preview of the excellent service Thomas provided. Thomas made us feel like old friends from the very start of our tour. He took us to see places he grew up visiting and hidden gems we would never have encountered on our own. Thomas is extremely knowledgeable about so many subjects and has such a passion for Greek Mythology. He instantly drew us into his world. We had so many fantastic conversations on the way to the temple and on our return. Thomas waited patiently while my husband and I explored the Temple and the surrounding area. He had provided us a write up to help guide our explorations. We had such a wonderful and informative day and woukd not hesitate to book another tour with Thomas when we return to Athens!
My husband and I were coming to Greece a day early for a prearranged vacation package and decided to splurge and for a private tour. Nikos was the perfect guide for us!!! From our initial interactions via the app, Nikos was very responsive and made great suggestions for our personalized tour. We requested Nikos picked us up from the airport to begin the tour and he was standing there waiting even though our flight was early and we only had carryon luggage! Nikos had a comfortable and clean car that he used to drive us to sites. We went to the Ancient Theater in Thorikos before continuing to the Temple of Poseidon in Sounion. We continued the day with a beach walk and visit to Lake Vouliageni. We wrapped with an incredible sea side lunch before Nikos drive us to our hotel in Athens. Nikos was full of historical and antidotal information about the sites and Greek culture. Very knowledgeable, professional, and friendly - we would definitely use Nikos again and recommend him to friends and family who visit Athens.
This was simply the best tour we have ever been on. All of that was made possible because of our guide for the afternoon, John. His easy going manner made him a breeze to talk to and his ability to “teach” without us ever feeling that he was being pedantic made learning so enjoyable. . He was a joy to spend time with. John’s knowledge of history, culture and humanity goes so far beyond Ancient Greece. By the end of the tour we truly felt like family. What an amazing experience. We will, beyond a doubt, spend time with him again. Best money spent ever!
Nikos was an exceptional tour guide for our final day in Athens. He was prompt, extremely knowledgeable, had great communication, and it was like spending the day with a good friend. He even found the perfect local beach for our family to enjoy a swim. All the locations he chose were wonderful to visit and we learned so much from him. We arrived at Cape Sounio at the perfect time to enjoy the site and then settle in for a stunning sunset. Thank you, Nikos for planning our day, sharing these incredible locations with us, and for your kindness. We highly recommend booking a tour with Nikos and Withlocals. If we are ever back in the area, we wouldn’t hesitate to book another tour with Nikos and Withlocals.
This tour was an absolute treat. We were immersed in the ways of the locals with Manos. No slick touristy jargon just authentic Greek vibes. His knowledge of his home city and of Greece overall seemed limitless. We traveled around the coast and saw gorgeous beaches and ate at two brilliant but different restaurants. An upscale place with a view to die for, and a seaside tavern with amazing fresh food. Manos was super patient with our many and varied questions about history, culture, politics, life as a local, and it was interesting comparing Greece to our home New Zealand.
John was the best tour guide we have ever had, and we have been on many tours in other countries. He was exceptionally educated, kind, informative, generous, fun and dazzled us with stories of Greek Mythology. In a perfect world, everyone who visits this beautiful country would have a chance to experience being guided by John. Thank you!!!
The views really were amazing and our guide John was terrific - he showed us lots of hidden places. The temple was a real gem . We will be back to this part Greece.
We were a group of four adults and Ioannis took us on a private tour of Sounio and Temple of Poseidon. Ioannis made our tour entertaining and interesting! He was very knowledgeable of the area and explained everything in an way easy to understand. When he was driving us back to our hotel, he took us to some interesting places and he even gave us some goodies from a Michelin star bakery. Nice touch!!! I would highly recommend taking this tour with Ioannis when visiting the Athens!
While I understand that WithLocals connects you to locals, I don't know if they've vet out the locals well enough. I'm sure if I had a better host I'd have a better review, but it's unfortunate that the level of quality differs with certain locals. First off, my first booking for a tour the host cancelled on me two days before the day (after booking a month in advance) with no one else to fill in -- which altered our days in Athens. We decided to try again the next week on our last day in Athens with a different host. This host pretty much crushed the experience (see below for specific notes). I also noticed that the review rating average does not accurately depict the reviews left - for example, someone with a low review but a handful of 5 star reviews still shows up as 5 stars? That seems misleading. On to my issue of my specific host. The host was very nice and showed us cool spots BUT - was exhausting to be around. I don’t think we got the value we would have hoped given the time and cost we put into this experience. There were multiple faults with the host that made the experience tough, as detailed below. The host's driving was erratic and made our group nauseous. The host also talked a LOT even when we were trying to enjoy a quiet moment, and would interrupt us mid convo our while we ere having individual 1:1s among ourselves. Most of his comments were repetitive without getting to the point, so it was exhausting to hear him talk. At the restaurant, he tried to order for our group even though we had picky eaters in our group (and we were paying for it…) He ordered items to the server that we would not eat, and a member of my party had to ask to remove the items after. I’m not sure why he thought he knew what we were going to order because we were discussing the menu without him. The whole experience we felt rushed, as he kept telling us the times we needed to arrive at the temple — at no point were we delayed or even close to being delayed. We felt rushed at the spots along the coastline. At times he would repeat what we were about to do and deadlines and we seemed to spend more time doing that than actually exploring and seeing the cape for ourselves. We were looking forward to getting back to the hotel ASAP due to these experiences and did not enjoy our last night in Greece the way we had hoped. Unfortunately, with all of these collective issues, I'm not sure I can trust this service again since the hosts don't always seem reliable and there's no vetting that seems to happen to ensure the experience is great.
We had an incredible day with Nikos. His knowledge of the Greek history made the areas we visited come to life. The pastries were wonderful, the whole trip was great. I would highly recommend it!
Fitoumi was very knowledgeable about the area and was flexible to shape activities around our personality. Lunch in town after seeing the temple was down to earth and an authentic Greek experience. He was even able to escort us to the parliament to catch changing of the guards!
Nikos was very knowledgeable & interesting, and answered our many questions! He tailored our tour to what we needed--buying another suitcase, getting coffee, staying away from crowds, & getting us to Cape Sounion before it closed (the hike was really worth it!). We drove to Lavrio for an authentic Greek lunch, and tried new & delicious foods. Nikos had a great attitude & was patient with us. I highly recommend him!!!
Fotis was a wonderful guide! We met him at the cruise terminal in Pireaus and he took us to his hometown and we had local treats and juices at a cafe. We then went to Temple of Poseidon which had amazing views. He then took us to a lovely local beach that was our favorite beach of the trip. Fotis is very knowledgeable, we learned so much about Greek culture and ways of living from him. We would not hesitate to book with him again. Thanks Fotis!
We took a ride with Yorgos to Cape Sournio & Poseidon. Yorgos showed us many places of interest & we ended up in a local village where we had the best meal. He was well spoken, educated about the area & an overall delight. Thumbs up👍
I was with my wife and 17 year old son. Fotis was the perfect host for this half day trip. He is personable, knowledgeable and passionate about Greek history and culture. The drive and temple are great but it was the local knowledge that allowed us to have a great experience with stops at a very cool beach and an authentic taverna. Highly recommend.
At the end of our day with Fotis, he asked us what part of the day we had enjoyed the most. I thought about the stunning coast of Attica, Cape Sounion and the temple, stark white against the brilliant blue of the sky, swimming in the clarity of the Aegean sea on a hot, hot day and eating yummy food in little local tavernas while talking non stop. I decided to answer that the best part of the day had been sharing the whole experience with him. Fotis is incredibly knowledgeable about all things Greek, intelligent, easy going and wonderful company. We had the most memorable day exploring with him and are sorry that we won't be able to share more coffees and talks with him in the future. We unreservedly recommend a Withlocals trip with Fotis.
Fotis is a gem. We had an absolutely fantastic day and saw a side of the Athens area we never would have otherwise. He has terrific stories and showed us hidden gems (beach, restaurant with the best gyros) along with the gorgeous drive to the Temple of Poseidon. Highly highly recommend!
The guide and driver were very welcoming. My friend abd I had a beautiful day trip down tge coats fro Athens to see The Temple of Poseidon and Cape Sounio.
Had a lovely day out to Cape Sunio and the temple of Poseidon with Fotis our tour guide who picked us up at the apartment. From the start he was friendly and attentive and gave us a guide to his view of Greece, the local area. With stops along way including the Athens riviera to sample a warm plate of bougatsa - absolutely delicious. Stopped at a local beach then left on our own to tour the temple of Poseidon - a very impressive structure and incredible location. The trip was good and Fotis made it great.
Had an amazing experience. Fotis was so knowledgeable in history of Greek mythology and also showing us all the sites of Athens Riveria including beaches only known to locals. Going to see Temple of Poseidon definitely a must do and a private tour even more so. On the way back we had dinner at a local Greek tavern and we really got to experience as a local.
Nikos was great! We first tried to book with Nikos in 2020, then COVID happened. We are not on our honeymoon, and our trip down the coast to the Cape was wonderful. Lots of cool sights, a nice meal, and the Temple of Poseidon at sunset was one of the highlights of our trip.
We had a wonderful experience with Nikos. Our trip to the Temple of Poseidon was made so much more interesting because of his knowledge of the area. I highly recommend Nikos and this day trip.
Fotis was a highlight of our entire experience in Greece. We went with him to Cape Sounion and the Temple of Poseidon. He's a genuinely nice person that gets joy from sharing his country and his experiences with you. We'll look forward to crossing paths with Fotis again.
We spent our day with Fotis and he was amazing. You clearly feel that he loves his country and this love pairs with a huge knowledge, interesting stories, let that be about mythology, history or everyday life. He is funny, kind and has a personality that the moment you sit in his car you feel comfortable. It turned out that even our almost 15y old teenager listened to each of his story. The program is excellent, Fotis surprised us with hidden gems as well. So we highly recommend both this tour and both Fotis.
Nikos picked us up from our hotel and drove to the Temple of Poseidon in Cape Sounion. On the way to the Cape, we stopped by a quaint town for some snacks, Lake Vouliagmeni and a beach in Keratea. It was a scenic drive along the coast. Nikos is very knowledgeable and answered all our inquiries. We arrived at the Temple just in time for the sunset. After the Temple, Nikos drove us to Lavrion for dinner. Lavrion is a beautiful town that we would like to revisit if ever we come back to Greece! Overall, it was a great experience and highly recommended.
We - myself ,my wife Varsha and friend BT Rokade and Sangita had a very nice tour of Bhutan - Thimphu, Punakha and Paro spanning 8days / 7 nights .it was very nice experience and would like to thank Bishnu for his impeccable planning and execution. He used to detail out the program for the day in advance with clear instructions and used to be there on time as planned .Also the explanations about the places were very elaborate Laced with historical stories which made it very engaging . Also I need to mention. Our driver Tak who took us to all the places without any hiccups.
Fotos was the best! We spent 3 weeks in Greece and his tour was a highlight for us! The temple of Poseidon had amazing Avra / atmosphere. Getting to learn local words/sayings, seeing local restaurants/ lifestyle and getting to go to a local hidden gem beach were all a lot of fun. Super friendly person and great tour! Ciga ciga! Thanks Fotos!
Yawni was an amazing, smart, flexible & enjoyable tour guide. He makes a point to personalize your tour to fit your wishes. The most special part for us was when we stopped by with a surprise visit to his mother in laws home to meet her & his wife. We highly recommend Yawni & this tour!!!! Craig, Gwen, Jack & Laura
Although our tour was confirmed by both Viator and local guide up to one day before our excusing anthems and were charged, guide never showed up. He didn’t answer my calls nor texts. I called Viator, and they couldn’t contact him either. With only one day in port off our cruise ship, we had no alternative. It to hire a taxi to drive us to sounion. I expect a refund from Viator it it doesn’t compensate us for a missed opportunity.
My sister and I celebrated birthday milestones with a trip to Athens and a cruise to see the Greek Islands. While in Athens, we secured a trip to Cape Sounio and Temple of Poseidon. Our guide, John, was very thoughtful, extremely knowledgeable, and well spoken (helping us pronounce many Greek words). He took additional steps to show us so much more of his country than we had any reason to expect (local coffee shops, tasting local baked goods, and additional stops not originally planned). If you want a extraordinary trip, spend the day with John.
Nikos is an amazing guide, extremely punctual and perfect for a cruise stop. This was one of the highlights of our vacation! Thank you!
Great day trip. Nikos is an excellent guide. Lots of historical information and beautiful scenery. Definitely recommend it.
This was the most fun we had during our four day visit to Athens. Fotis was an amazing guide! This is a wonderful opportunity to get out of the city and explore the beautiful landscapes. Fotis was very personable and made sure our needs were met throughout our journey. We were introduced to local spots and cuisine. I would love to have another day with Fotis! This is a must do!
We had an excellent trip with Antonis. He was so enthusiastic about his city and the Athenian riviera, taking us to some of his favourite locations on the coast. It was great to get out of the city and to see some of the beautiful coastline which was really impressive. It was also great to see the temple of Poseidon, even though it was a holiday and so we couldn't access it, we had a great view of it. Would definitely recommend this tour, made even better by Antonis who was a really knowledgeable and friendly guide.
We had an amazing journey with Fotis as our guide. He took us along the Athens Riviera to the Temple of Poseidon and the views were incredible. We had coffee and a snack at the beginning of our trip and later stopped at a local seaside cafe for a delicious lunch. He shared a lot of information along the way, not just about the history of the places we visited but also about Hellenic culture, tradition and lifestyle. It was a real view into life in Greece.
Antonis, the tour guide, is very knowledgeable and welcomong and loves his work. This tour is must to get a greater appreciation of what Greece has to offer, particuiarly if you are only on a short trip. The tour provides great perspective on Greece's natural beauty and coastline. He showed some great spots on the way to Cape Sounio, including where local Athenians like to spend their free time. He also provided great advise for a spot where to have a seafood lunch which he himself frequents with his family and friends. The only thing to keep in mind is that he has small vehicle.
Our tour was great and we learned a lot from Fotis. He was super nice and showed us great local spots. He gave us plenty of time to enjoy all the stops throughout our tour. As well as take pictures of us for us. Felt very safe with Fotis as it was just me and my daughter. Totally recommend.
Our guide Fotis did a wonderful job of teaching us about the culture and history of Greece. Excellent excursion in every way. It was a day we will never forget!
Very pleasant tour guide. Beautiful drive along the coast. A little disappointed by the small car we were in.
This tour was fabulous, I recommend it to anyone who wants to see the Temple of Poseidon and the Greece bank on the shores of the Aegean sea. Very good experience without haste and Foti our guide was very kind and friendly, he gave us a lot of information and we shared good moments during the trip, and the Greek breakfast he provided us was delicious. A cordial greeting to Foti and I hope to keep in touch with us. From Toronto, Canada. Oct 21, 2021 Ricardo and Ana
It was a very pleasant drive to the beach and Poseidon's temple. Really awesome to see. We were a bit let down by the description of the day trip and the expectations that it created which were not met. We expected to have some food and also walk around a little city. Instead, we went from 2 pm to 8 pm without eating which we were planning on that so we were very hungry by the end. It seemed like we drove pretty slow to take up time on the way there. Outside of that, it was a great experience and the host was awesome.
YArgos was an amazing guide! Friendly knowledgeable and brought us to the most amazing hidden beaches!!
Fotis could not have been more welcoming and at the end of the day we felt we has caught up with an old friend. We drove along the coast quickly leaving behind the bustle of Athens made a coffee stop in Vouliagmeni, before heading onto the spectacular Temple of Poseidon. We then returned stopping for a relaxing lunch at a location right by the sea, before finally returning to be dropped off back at our Athens home
Cosy and very local way to visit the monument of Poseidon. Antonis also made sure to show us some very beautiful hidden location only locals would know. Very relaxing experience. We certainly enjoyed.
