On October 31st we had a wonderful tour with our private guide George. We, as a group of four friends, we had the description of the suggested tour, which was already quite complete and interesting. Finally, we have seen everything on the list and even more. We had enough Time at every location and it was easy to adjust and ton inform George when our visit was completed on one spot. With our cell phone it was easy to call or text George. Un comparison with the trafic in our own city un Quebec we were impressed by George driving un Athens where there is so much more trafic on big boulevards or in some very narrow streets. In addition to that, we have been provided with many educative informations, for example at the Acropolis or at the Olympic Stadium. We felt that our guide was very well informed, connoisseur and passionate about history and his city in général. His comments were so interesting. I was taking notes to make sure I would not forget what he was telling us. Even though english is not our first language, it was easy to understand what George was explaining. We sincerely had a wonderful day and the four of us really appreciated this expérience. Without this tour with George and Viator company it would not be possible to make a visit as complete as this one in one day! Thank you George and thank you Viator! Walk on the land in which thousands of years ago some of the largest and most important parts of the global philosophy, politics, and science were born and flourished. Navigate ancient monuments of priceless cultural and historical value and experience in person the greatness and glamour of Greek ancient times. Starting off with the Acropolis, which in Greek translates to the edge of the city, the geographically and spiritually highest point according to ancient Greeks.
The Propylaea was the monumental gateway to the Acropolis of Athens and was one of several public works commissioned by the Athenian leader Pericles in order to rebuild the Acropolis a generation after the conclusion of the Persian Wars.
On the top of this sacred hill, proudly stands the Parthenon, which is the epitome of ancient Greek architecture, where you will experience the greatness of ancient Greece captured on every piece of marble. An architectural jewel that hosts the best of what the human spirit and genius has ever conceived, an open embrace that awaits its famed sister marbles to welcome them home again.
The Erechtheion is an ancient Greek temple on the north side of the Acropolis of Athens in Greece which was dedicated to both Athena and Poseidon.
The Temple of Athena Nike is a temple on the Acropolis of Athens, dedicated to the goddesses Athena and Nike. Built around 420 BC, the temple is the earliest fully Ionic temple on the Acropolis. It has a prominent position on a steep bastion at the southwest corner of the Acropolis to the right of the entrance, the Propylaea. In contrast to the Acropolis proper, a walled sanctuary entered through the Propylaea, the Victory Sanctuary was open, entered from the Propylaea's southwest wing and from a narrow stair on the north. The sheer walls of its bastion were protected on the north, west, and south by the Nike Parapet, named for its frieze of Nikai celebrating victory and sacrificing to their patroness, Athena and Nike.
The Theatre of Dionysus is an ancient Greek theatre in Athens. It is built on the south slope of the Acropolis hill, originally part of the sanctuary of Dionysus Eleuthereus. The first orchestra terrace was constructed on the site around the mid- to late-sixth century BC, where it hosted the City Dionysia. The theatre reached its fullest extent in the fourth century BC under the epistates of Lycurgus when it would have had a capacity of up to 17,000, and was in continuous use down to the Roman period. The theatre then fell into decay in the Byzantine era and was not identified, excavated, and restored to its current condition until the nineteenth century.
The Odeon of Herodes Atticus is a stone Roman theater structure located on the southwest slope of the Acropolis of Athens. The building was completed in 161 AD and then renovated in 1950.
At the foot of the Acropolis Hill in the shadow of the imposing Parthenon lays a modern jewel that houses some of the most important ancient Greek statues and works of art, the Acropolis Museum.
The Arch of Hadrian, most commonly known in Greek as Hadrian's Gate, is a monumental gateway resembling a Roman triumphal arch. It spanned an ancient road from the center of Athens, Greece, to the complex of structures on the eastern side of the city that included the Temple of Olympian Zeus.
Between the Acropolis and the Ilisos River are the remains of the Olympian Zeus Temple (now known as the Pillars of Olympian Zeus), one of Athens’ most important and oldest shrines. The space even today gives the visitor a sense of grandeur.
Continuing with the stunning Calimarmaro or as it is called today, the Panathenaic Stadium, the house of the first modern Olympic games, made of Pentelic marble in which the Olympic ideals are still reflected today.
After leaving the beautiful Calimarmaro behind us, we will drive up to Lycabettus hill where you will enjoy the beautiful panoramic view of the city and admire the combination of ancient and modern Athens from above.
Syntagma Square (Constitution Square) is the central square of Athens. The square is named after the Constitution that Otto, the first King of Greece, was obliged to grant after a popular and military uprising on 3 September 1843.[2] It is located in front of the 19th century Old Royal Palace, housing the Greek Parliament since 1934. Syntagma Square is the most important square of modern Athens from both a historical and social point of view, at the heart of commercial activity and Greek politics. The name Syntagma alone also refers to the neighbourhood surrounding the square.
Traveling thousands of years ahead, to the Hellenic Parliament building that houses the Greek Parliament in an impressive building in downtown Athens overseeing Syntagma Square, protected by the presidential guard that consists of two soldiers dressed in the traditional Greek combat uniform, standing stationary and guarding beside the tomb of the unknown soldier. The two guards perform the guard change ceremony every hour with impressive accuracy and agility.
The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a war memorial located in Syntagma Square in Athens, in front of the Old Royal Palace. It is a cenotaph dedicated to the Greek soldiers killed during war. It was sculpted between 1930 and 1932 by sculptor Fokion Rok. The tomb is guarded by the Evzones of the Presidential Guard.
The Academy of Athens is Greece's national academy and the highest research establishment in the country. It was established in 1926 and operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Education. The Academy's main building is one of the major landmarks of Athens.
The National Library of Greece is situated near the center of the city of Athens. It was designed by the Danish architect Theophil Freiherr von Hansen, as part of his famous Trilogy of neo-classical buildings including the Academy of Athens and the original building of the Athens University. It was founded by Ioannis Kapodistrias.
The University of Athens has been in continuous operation since its establishment in 1837 and is the oldest higher education institution of the modern Greek state and the first contemporary university in both the Balkan Peninsula and the Eastern Mediterranean. Today it is one of the largest universities by enrollment in Europe, with over 69,000 registered students. The University of Athens was founded on 3 May 1837 by King Otto of Greece and was named in his honour Othonian University. It was the first university in the liberated Greek state and in the surrounding area of Southeast Europe as well. It was also the second academic institution after the Ionian Academy. This fledgling university consisted of four faculties; Theology, Law, Medicine and Arts (which included applied sciences and mathematics). During its first year of operation, the institution was staffed by 33 professors, while courses were attended by 52 students and 75 non-matriculated "auditors".
The Old Parliament House at Stadiou Street in Athens housed the Greek Parliament between 1875 and 1935. It now houses the country's National Historical Museum.
The National Archaeological Museum in Athens houses some of the most important artifacts from a variety of archaeological locations around Greece from prehistory to late antiquity. It is considered one of the greatest museums in the world and contains the richest collection of artifacts from Greek antiquity worldwide.
Free time for lunch at a traditional Greek tavern with your friends and family or shopping.
The ancient Agora of Athens is the best-known example of an ancient Greek agora, located to the northwest of the Acropolis and bounded on the south by the hill of the Areopagus and on the west by the hill known as the Agoraios Kolonos, also called Market Hill. The Agora's initial use was for a commercial, assembly, or residential gathering place and is considered the birthplace of democracy, philosophy and free speech.
A small museum where you can see findings from Ancient Athenians' daily life.
The Temple of Hephaestus or Hephaisteion is a well-preserved Greek temple as it remains standing largely intact. It is a Doric peripteral temple and is located at the northwest side of the Agora of Athens, on top of the Agoraios Kolonos hill. From the 7th century until 1834, it served as the Greek Orthodox church of Saint George Akamates.
The old historical neighborhood of Athens, clustered around the northern and eastern slopes of the Acropolis, and incorporating labyrinthine streets and neoclassical architecture. Plaka is built on top of the residential areas of the ancient town of Athens. It is known as the "Neighborhood of the Gods" due to its proximity to the Acropolis and its many archaeological sites.

We had a wonderful half day tour with Costa. His communication prior to collecting us from the port was excellent & he made our day in Athens really special. He was super knowledgeable, with lots of interesting tales, anecdotes and background information. He looked after us really well, adapted to our requests and never made us feel rushed. I would highly let recommend the tour & Costa!
The driver was very friendly and very informative about the history of Athens.
Excellent tour operator driver, more knowledgeable about the site and kindness and more patience and caring much …rare human kind really impressive in his character and work
This day is unforgettable. George was such a knowledgeable tour guide and a safe driver. Gave us a history of the sites before each stop. The tickets were purchased before hand by the tour guide so we did not have to wait in any lines. A true pleasure to have spent the day with George. Thank you!
We had a wonderful tour - our guide, Dimitri Tabone- was excellent. He was knowledgeable, personable and he went above and beyond to ensure that we had a great experience in Athens and saw as much as possible.
We had the easiest day tour in Athens with Costa. Most of our group were seniors, and he was very accommodating and flexible with our schedule. We were able to see everything at our own pace- the Acropolis, the Acropolis Museum, lunch and shopping at Monastiraki, stops at the Olympic Stadium, Parliament, even dropped by a church. They even pre-paid for our Acropolis and museum tickets at no additional cost. Definitely recommend booking with My Athens Transfers and Costa!
We had a great experience touring Athens in the comfort of a spacious modern van for our group of 8. Bill communicated with us to ensure we knew when he would pick us up and then was flexible with us as he adapted our plans due to rain and the specific needs of our group. It was an exceptional day!

A wonderful time with Spyros. He was very knowledgeable and entertaining. His lunch recommention was spot on. We diffententy recommend this tour. It's a lot in one day. But you see ALL the sights of Athens.
Fantastic 9 hour Athens experience with Costa! We booked this tour through Viator for our first full day in Athens. We appreciated the pre tour communications via text which offered the opportunity to pre purchase tickets to the attractions. This is a great service which saves lots of time and aggravation. The tickets are purchased for timed entry so the guide can plan out the day accordingly. The tour company provides this service at no additional costs. Be prepared to pay the driver in cash. We chose 3 attractions: Acropolis, Acropolis Museum and the Agora. Our guide/driver picked us up in Mercedes van promptly at 9am. All of the attractions were phenomenal. We hit the Acropolis first at 9am. I recommend going early before it gets too packed. We spent about 90 minutes touring the temples and grounds. We texted Costa on our way down. He picked us up at the meeting point. Costa is an expert in Greek history and he gave us a tremendous narrative about 4000 years of history throughout the trip. Our next stop was the Acropolis Museum. It was great visiting this attraction after touring the Acropolis. The museum is about 10 years old and us we'll layer out. After the Museum, Costa took us to Agora. He showed us a great restaurant near the entrance where we we had a nice lunch. We enjoyed the the Agora grounds. Costa picked us up and he timed it perfectly to see the changing of the guards at the Parliment. Then costa took us to Lycabettus Hill. This is a must see attraction. Be prepared to walk up steep paths and stairs. The view from the to is tremendous. On the way back we stopped at the Olympic stadium and then Costa drove us through Plaka which is an interesting shopping district. We walked through the next day as well as Anasiotika which Costa recommended. We were dropped off at 6pm after a long fun filled day. Costa is a fantastic guide, very personable and knowledgeable and an excellent driver. We could have never experienced such an extensive array of attractions on our own in a single day. I highly recommend this tour. It's well worth the cost. You will be lucky to get Costa as your guide!

It was a great day and Nikos was fantastic and very informative!
We had a superb experience from booking to end-of-tour. The company communicated regularly with me, getting pickup and dropoff information. The pickup at the Piraeus/Athens Cruise port was seamless. Despite heavy Athens traffic all day, our fantastic host/guide Michael filled in the gaps with information prior to each stop on our tour. We saw all the best Athens sites in our 8-hour tour. My highest recommendation on this tour, our guide Michael, and the company we worked with!
The pickup at the Athens port was seamless. We've used Viator for dozens of tours and this tour was one of the best values for our money that we've ever done. Our driver/host Michael was a joy to be with! His knowledge of Athens was superb, and his English was outstanding! We couldn't have asked for a better guide for the day. We hit all of the Athens highlights in 8 hours, and despite unusually heavy traffic, Michael kept us on track and told us interesting stories as we approached each site. We loved the day so much we used the company for our transportation from our Athens hotel to the airport. I highly recommend this tour!
What a wonderful day we had on the Best of Athens private day tour ,Spyros is a wonderful guide and took us to places we would never have known existed, such great value in a clean comfortable Mercedes people mover thank you again Spyros 👍
My sister and I visited Europe / Athens for the first time and only had one full day to explore. We had the most amazing time with Michael all day - he was knowledgeable and personable and answered all of our questions. This tour was a perfect way to explore Athens with limited time and would highly recommend! The locations in the itinerary are perfect!
We had an EXCELLENT guide and a great time. I have passed the business card along to another group already!!!
Simply put, Nick was fantastic. He was organized, informative and flexible. He made sure our tour of Athens was both comprehensive and logical. He had a wealth of information to offer, and we were most appreciative of his efforts.
Me and my boys thoroughly enjoyed our day with Notis!! He is very knowledgeable and loves his country! Professional and has great conversations.
Costa was fantastic! We had a wonderful day with him in Athens.

Dimitris Tabone was Excellent. He was knowledgable and friendly. We enjoyed every stop in our tour. He helped us choose a wonderful Greek restaurant for lunch and never made us feel rushed. We felt like we made a Trusted New Friend!!! I recommend this private tour with Dimitris for a seemless Athens experience. Thank you

We had great expernce with our driver Costa, everything was perfect and Costa kept us well informed and provided recommendations and guidance. Will be booking again in future visits. Highly recommend
This tour began well before I was picked up. The team were so helpful beforehand and even gave me the option to be picked up from my hotel (wasn't on the list) and helped me purchase tickets. The main event was my guide Menelaos. He was efficient, knowledgeable and made this solo adventurer feel like she was with her friend. This is one of the best tours I've done and we were able to fit so much in! Including a delicious lunch. Seeing such historical sites was one thing but getting the download from Menelaos made it feel more impactful instead of wandering with the crowds aimlessly. Highly recommend.

Spyros is a wonderful tour guide. He tailored our tour to the timeframe and the spots that we wanted to see. He picked us up at the port right in front the ship, had water for us because it was so hot and directed us to an authentic tasty lunch spot. I recommend Spyros and this tour.
10/10 would recommend. Very thorough tour of all the major sites to see in Athens. Our tour guide catered to our wishes and spent time where we decided was most important. He gave us great recommendations for local food options for lunch and even helped us make a dinner reservation. He was super knowledgeable teaching us new information as we drove around. He even stopped at the grocery store to help us buy a food item we were interested in! The car is air conditioned and comes with water which you will need.
George was wonderful!!! Not only was he very knowledgeable about all the places we visited, he was just a pleasure to spend the day with. We could not have asked for a better guide. I would definitely Book with him again if we ever have the chance to return for a visit!
We had the BEST experience with George, he was very knowledgeable and extremely flexible with our itinerary and needs, and very professional. The car was spotless and the timing was impeccable! I will 100% recommend all my friends and family to book with them! We will be back with George! (This is George)
Having visited Greece before, I can honestly say this was one of the best tours I have ever taken. I brought my family with me because I wanted them to experience as much of Athens as possible in just one day, and sometimes that can be difficult to accomplish. However, this tour exceeded all of our expectations. The luxury van was spacious and extremely comfortable. We were a group of 10, and the vehicle accommodated up to 13 passengers, giving everyone plenty of room throughout the day. Our driver was outstanding—professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely caring. He made sure we visited every stop on the itinerary without skipping a single one, despite the number of places we covered. What really made the difference was his attention to detail. At each location, he explained where to go, the best viewpoints, and where to take the most memorable photos. Since it was a private tour, we were able to move at our own pace without feeling rushed. Communication was excellent throughout the day, with clear instructions on pickup locations to avoid delays and smart timing at each attraction to help us avoid the heaviest crowds. If you want to explore Athens efficiently and comfortably in a single day, I highly recommend this tour. It was an amazing experience for our entire family and one that we will remember for years to come. A special thank you to our driver, Nikoc, (Nick) who made this experience exceptional. His professionalism, knowledge, communication, and attention to detail were a big part of why this tour was so enjoyable. If you have the opportunity to tour Athens with Nikoc, you will be in great hands.
We only had one full day in Athens and wanted to see as much as possible - this tour was how to do it. Our guide, Panos, was wonderfully professional and friendly. He shared his city and its history with us as we visited all the important ancient and more modern sights of central Athens. Make sure you get you tickets for the Acropolis early and go in the morning before it gets too hot! This a a day to remember and ask for Panos!
We only had one full day in Athens and wanted to see all the important sites. Panos was our guide and he was amazing from the very first second. We were picked up in the lobby of our hotel and he expertly guided us throughout the city - was so nice to be with someone so knowledgeable of the traffic and to get around! We saw everything - we were never rushed and had a great day! Thanks for such a memorable time in Athens!
This was a busy day that never felt hurried. Our group was able to see many amazing sites in the city without worrying about traffic, parking, routes, in most cases tickets and even had lunch planned out for us. Overall a great experiences with Kostas (sp?)!
Very informative and accommodating. I would take this tour again. Our guide was amazing and very nice.

This full-day private tour with My Athens Transfers was absolutely remarkable!!! Our driver and guide Nick was the highlight of the entire experience…knowledgeable, engaging, and genuinely fun to spend the day with. He brought every stop to life, from the Acropolis and the Ancient Agora to Mt. Lycabettus and the Panathenaic Stadium, with historical insights and stories you just won’t get on a standard tour. Mike, our guide , was sooo great! He asked questions to learn what we wanted to see , what order ( his excellent questions) He learned about our requirements and expectations and he was great with that, making sure that he checked the right boxes. We had a great day with him! ( I left a previous review that said his ranking was a little lower which was an error on my part! He was all great!)
Mike was very knowledgeable and had good insights. He was also very personable.
Dimitris is the guide to ask for in Athens!!😊He speaks English very well and also Greek. Very friendly with good information about the area and not boring. He’s flexible with suggestions of different places to see. Took us to an authentic Greek restaurant for lunch which was included in price. Best tour guide we had on our trip. Ask for him and you’ll be glad you did.
We were tired and we're considering not going to the acropolis.. Our driver talked us into going on versus doing a drive-by. Thank God he did. What an opportunity we would've missed. We had a wonderful time. We didn't do the Agora museum but we did do the ruins. Pretty cool but not the Acropolis! Loved the old town! So artsy and cool. Lunch was amazing, authentic, fun!
Great guide, very knowledgeable and was flexible with adjusting the schedule to meet the expectations of the group. Took us to a great lunch spot. And then later to a local bakery close to our hotel. Great job Dimitri.
We learned a lot about Athens and the gods of ancient Greece from our tour guide, Cosco. We also visited a lot, if not all, of the sites/ruins in the city. Cosco made the tour fun and exciting and he was knowledgeable of the the gods and the role they played in Ancient Greece, as well as the transformation of religious beliefs to Christianity. We loved the tour. Coscos treated us with respect, dignity, and kindness and helped me with my mobility issues throughout the tour. He was great.
Alex is exceptional - we spent a fantastic day in Athens! We highly recommend taking this tour to experience the most enjoyable and informative visit exploring the city. Looking forward to returning to Athens and reserving our next tour with Alex!

Fantastic tour for families. We highly recommend this itinerary that can be adapted to your interests and abilities. Our tour guides George and George were incredibly kind, patient and knowledgeable. They answered all our questions and offered great historical background and context on Athens and Greece. Above all, our tour guides were patient and kind toward a family member with limited mobility. We enjoyed the tour so much that we book another tour during our trip.
We enjoyed the day in Athens very much. Our driver, George, was so nice and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this tour.
