My wife and I had a couple of days in Athens and decided to book this tour, which was recommended by family who had taken it before. Spyros was our guide and showed up right on time at our hotel for pickup. Spyros is very knowledgeable about architecture and ancient and modern history. Throughout the day he explained the sights and historic figures in detail, and was able to answer any questions we had that we thought up along the way. He let us go at our own pace, but made sure to keep us on schedule so we could see all there was in the day. Would highly recommend this tour/company and hopefully you get Spyros as your guide!

Walk on the land in which thousands of years ago some of the largest and most important parts of the global philosophy, politics, and science were born and flourished. Navigate ancient monuments of priceless cultural and historical value and experience in person the greatness and glamour of Greek ancient times. Starting off with the Acropolis, which in Greek translates to the edge of the city, the geographically and spiritually highest point according to ancient Greeks.
The Propylaea was the monumental gateway to the Acropolis of Athens and was one of several public works commissioned by the Athenian leader Pericles in order to rebuild the Acropolis a generation after the conclusion of the Persian Wars.
On the top of this sacred hill, proudly stands the Parthenon, which is the epitome of ancient Greek architecture, where you will experience the greatness of ancient Greece captured on every piece of marble. An architectural jewel that hosts the best of what the human spirit and genius has ever conceived, an open embrace that awaits its famed sister marbles to welcome them home again.
The Erechtheion is an ancient Greek temple on the north side of the Acropolis of Athens in Greece which was dedicated to both Athena and Poseidon.
The Temple of Athena Nike is a temple on the Acropolis of Athens, dedicated to the goddesses Athena and Nike. Built around 420 BC, the temple is the earliest fully Ionic temple on the Acropolis. It has a prominent position on a steep bastion at the southwest corner of the Acropolis to the right of the entrance, the Propylaea. In contrast to the Acropolis proper, a walled sanctuary entered through the Propylaea, the Victory Sanctuary was open, entered from the Propylaea's southwest wing and from a narrow stair on the north. The sheer walls of its bastion were protected on the north, west, and south by the Nike Parapet, named for its frieze of Nikai celebrating victory and sacrificing to their patroness, Athena and Nike.
The Theater of Dionysus is an ancient Greek theatre in Athens. It is built on the south slope of the Acropolis hill, originally part of the sanctuary of Dionysus Eleuthereus. The first orchestra terrace was constructed on the site around the mid- to late-sixth century BC, where it hosted the City Dionysia. The theatre reached its fullest extent in the fourth century BC under the epistates of Lycurgus when it would have had a capacity of up to 17,000, and was in continuous use down to the Roman period. The theatre then fell into decay in the Byzantine era and was not identified, excavated, and restored to its current condition until the nineteenth century.
The Odeon of Herodes Atticus is a stone Roman theater structure located on the southwest slope of the Acropolis of Athens. The building was completed in 161 AD and then renovated in 1950.
At the foot of the Acropolis Hill in the shadow of the imposing Parthenon lays a modern jewel that houses some of the most important ancient Greek statues and works of art, the Acropolis Museum.
The Arch of Hadrian, most commonly known in Greek as Hadrian's Gate, is a monumental gateway resembling a Roman triumphal arch. It spanned an ancient road from the center of Athens, Greece, to the complex of structures on the eastern side of the city that included the Temple of Olympian Zeus.
Between the Acropolis and the Ilisos River are the remains of the Olympian Zeus Temple (now known as the Pillars of Olympian Zeus), one of Athens’ most important and oldest shrines. The space even today gives the visitor a sense of grandeur.
Continuing with the stunning Calimarmaro or as it is called today, the Panathenaic Stadium, the house of the first modern Olympic games, made of Pentelic marble in which the Olympic ideals are still reflected today.
After leaving the beautiful Calimarmaro behind us, we will drive up to Lycabettus hill where you will enjoy the beautiful panoramic view of the city and admire the combination of ancient and modern Athens from above.
Syntagma Square (Constitution Square) is the central square of Athens. The square is named after the Constitution that Otto, the first King of Greece, was obliged to grant after a popular and military uprising on 3 September 1843.[2] It is located in front of the 19th century Old Royal Palace, housing the Greek Parliament since 1934. Syntagma Square is the most important square of modern Athens from both a historical and social point of view, at the heart of commercial activity and Greek politics. The name Syntagma alone also refers to the neighbourhood surrounding the square.
Traveling thousands of years ahead, to the Hellenic Parliament building that houses the Greek Parliament in an impressive building in downtown Athens overseeing Syntagma Square, protected by the presidential guard that consists of two soldiers dressed in the traditional Greek combat uniform, standing stationary and guarding beside the tomb of the unknown soldier. The two guards perform the guard change ceremony every hour with impressive accuracy and agility.
The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a war memorial located in Syntagma Square in Athens, in front of the Old Royal Palace. It is a cenotaph dedicated to the Greek soldiers killed during war. It was sculpted between 1930 and 1932 by sculptor Fokion Rok. The tomb is guarded by the Evzones of the Presidential Guard.
The Academy of Athens is Greece's national academy and the highest research establishment in the country. It was established in 1926 and operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Education. The Academy's main building is one of the major landmarks of Athens.
The National Library of Greece is situated near the center of the city of Athens. It was designed by the Danish architect Theophil Freiherr von Hansen, as part of his famous Trilogy of neo-classical buildings including the Academy of Athens and the original building of the Athens University. It was founded by Ioannis Kapodistrias.
The University of Athens has been in continuous operation since its establishment in 1837 and is the oldest higher education institution of the modern Greek state and the first contemporary university in both the Balkan Peninsula and the Eastern Mediterranean. Today it is one of the largest universities by enrollment in Europe, with over 69,000 registered students. The University of Athens was founded on 3 May 1837 by King Otto of Greece and was named in his honour Othonian University. It was the first university in the liberated Greek state and in the surrounding area of Southeast Europe as well. It was also the second academic institution after the Ionian Academy. This fledgling university consisted of four faculties; Theology, Law, Medicine and Arts (which included applied sciences and mathematics). During its first year of operation, the institution was staffed by 33 professors, while courses were attended by 52 students and 75 non-matriculated "auditors".
The Old Parliament House at Stadiou Street in Athens housed the Greek Parliament between 1875 and 1935. It now houses the country's National Historical Museum.
The old historical neighborhood of Athens, clustered around the northern and eastern slopes of the Acropolis, and incorporating labyrinthine streets and neoclassical architecture. Plaka is built on top of the residential areas of the ancient town of Athens. It is known as the "Neighborhood of the Gods" due to its proximity to the Acropolis and its many archaeological sites.
Glyfada is a suburb in South Athens located in the Athens Riviera. It is situated in the southern parts of Athens' urban area. The area stretches from the foot of the Hymettus mountain to the Saronic Gulf. It is the largest of Athens' southern suburbs.
Voula is a southern suburb of Athens.
Vouliagmeni is a seaside suburb and former municipality 20 km south of Athens city center.
During our return to the city of Athens, we will stop at one of the most idyllic places. Vouliagmeni Lake, in the heart of the Athenian Riviera, is the hidden treasure of Attica's nature. Lake Vouliagmeni ("Sunken Lake") is a small brackish-water lake fed by underground currents seeping through the mass of Mount Hymettus located to the south of Vouliagmeni.
Varkiza, also Alianthos, is a suburb of greater Athens forming part of the municipality of Vari-Voula-Vouliagmeni in southern Attica.
Anavyssos is a town and a former municipality in East Attica.
Cape Sounion is the promontory at the southernmost tip of the Attic peninsula, 8 kilometers (5.0 mi) south of the town of Lavrio (ancient Thoricus), and 70 kilometers (43 mi) southeast of Athens. It is part of Lavreotiki municipality, East Attica. It is 59.6 km away from Athens. Cape Sounion is noted for its Temple of Poseidon, one of the major monuments of the Golden Age of Athens. Its remains are perched on the headland, surrounded on three sides by the sea.
The ancient Greek temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion, built during 444–440 BC, is one of the major monuments of the Golden Age of Athens. A Doric temple, overlooks the sea at the end of Cape Sounion, at a height of almost 60 meters (200 ft).
If the option "With Traditional Greek Food" is selected, we make a stop at a seaside tavern near the coastal city of Anavyssos to enjoy authentic Greek cuisine and traditional foods.

This all day tour was great! Our guide Spyros was very knowledgeable and friendly. We had the company pre-buy the entry tickets which made sure we had the correct time slots. Beautiful sites and even grabbed a great lunch at a restaurant Spyros recommended on the beach. My parents did the same tour a year before and told u we needed to do it. Glad we listened!
We had a fantastic day touring Athens with Dimitris! He was punctual, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable. His vehicle was spotless and very comfortable, making the day even more enjoyable. Dimitris shared fascinating information throughout the tour while still giving us plenty of time to explore on our own. He was flexible, accommodating, and never made us feel rushed. In fact, our tour ended up lasting a couple of hours longer than planned, and he was more than happy to continue without any issues. His friendly personality and local expertise made for a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend Dimitris to anyone visiting Athens and looking for a memorable, personalized tour.
Michael was on time to pick us up and was a wonderful driver with excellent knowledge of the area and history.
We only had one day in Athens, so we booked this tour in hopes of seeing as much as possible in a limited time. It exceeded our expectations! Our driver, Michael, was amazing. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the city and he gave us a rundown on each of the sites we were visiting in between stops. He was also flexible and we adjusted our schedule throughout the day based on what we really wanted to see and how much time we spent at each stop.
From start to finish our tour was incredible! Alex not only caught that our flight had changed and let us know so we wouldn’t miss the tour, but provided incredible skills throughout the day. He was professional, knowledgeable, funny and an excellent driver. We got to see things we didn’t even plan on seeing, with a history lesson added in! We had the best day - did not feel rushed at all visiting any of the sights and really enjoyed learning about the region. Bonus was that Alex timed everything perfectly so we were ahead of the crowds at the most popular places. Perfect day!
John was great Informed , knowledgeable patient and flexible. Very people friendly Highest recommendation
We had an absolutely fantastic day on this full-day tour. The itinerary was well planned, covering all the highlights without ever feeling rushed. Each stop gave us plenty of time to explore, take photos, and really enjoy the experience. What made the day truly special, though, was our driver, Alex. From the moment we were picked up, he was warm, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable about the region. He shared fascinating insights along the way, making the journey between stops just as enjoyable as the destinations themselves. His driving was smooth and safe, and he went above and beyond to make sure everyone in the group was comfortable and happy. Alex’s enthusiasm and genuine care made the tour feel personal and memorable. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide and driver. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting – and if you’re lucky enough to have Alex as your driver, you’re in for a wonderful experience!
Yiannis our guide was fabulous. He was really knowledgeable and informative and a pleasure to spend time with. I would recommend this Tours to anyone visiting Athens!!!!
Alex was very informative and always showed us when and what needed to do. The restaurant he arranged for lunch was good. They were extremely friendly and service was quite quick. Would definitely recommend him for any future travellers.
We were scheduled for a 11am tour but due to the taxi strike in Athens our taxi driver canceled the airport pickup to hotel transport. I contacted Viator and asked if they could pick us up at the airport and they were able to accommodate us. We had a full day private tour with Nick P and started our tour earlier. He stores our luggage and was a perfect gentlemen. He gave us a complete tour of Athens and arranged a late lunch at a nice family seaside seafood restaurant with beautiful ocean views. We were exhausted from the overnight flight by then end of the tour but were so pleased of our first day in Athens
It was very enjoyable and relaxing. Nick was a great tour guide, incredibly accommodating and knowledgeable.
We had George as our tour guide- it was incredible- the day was perfect. He was an amazing guide and had so much history and facts on every site. I cannot recommend this tour and George enough!
We did a trip with our driver George and it was amazing! Plenty of fun facts, great locations, and soooo much fun. Would highly recommend :))
Great excursion. Our guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about ancient history and culture. It was fun, too.
We had a fantastic day exploring Athens. Our guide met the needs of our children and recommended a great spot for lunch. We enjoyed learning so much about the history of Greece and the Greek language. It was an excellent trip.
Notis was a wonderful guide and safe, caring driver. Very resourceful and knowledgeable especially in regards to significant Ancient Greek monuments and landmarks. A real gentleman, very polite and respectful, patient and full of enthusiasm for sharing his knowledge and love of Greek culture past and present. Always had a smile on his face and always was cheerful. Notis thank you for making my tour to Cape of Sounia very very enjoyable.
We had the best time only because of the exceptional service Kostas gave us!! He was outstanding, 100% the best of the best. I highly recommend him as everyone’s driver!!!!!
Our full day tour of Athens and Cape Sounio was excellent and well planned. Mr. Spiros knew the best sights and provided thoughtful commentary. We would not have been able to visit all the sights without his local expertise. Comfort, hospitality, and good timing made the day very enjoyable. We highly recommend this tour.
Vasilis was nice and friendly. Had him for the full day going to the top sites in Athens. We were there a short limited time and was nice to be able to see what we could.
Even in our short amount of time in Athens we were able to see and learn so much! Our tour guide Panos was amazing and super funny! He was a great driver and we got to see everything we were hoping to see because of him. Stop right here, you’ve found your perfect tour. The private option is the best because you can see as much or as little as you’d like, it’s your pace. He also recommended a super delicious restaurant for us to try. I had an amazing time because of Panos!
We had an excellent day with George as our guide! Our time at the Acropolis was not rushed at all, after we took nearly 2 hours to explore everything (he originally estimated 1.25-1.5 hours). He was a patient and skilled driver among some heavy traffic with the public transportation sector going on strike the day of our tour. George was extremely knowledgeable of Greek/European history and was able to help weave together everything we were seeing throughout the day within its historical context. He told us personal anecdotes about his life and the culture of Greece, and he also recommended a great spot along the coast for lunch, where we stopped to have a delicious meal with a view. After a week and a half in Greece, with 4 previous tour experiences that were all in groups, it was really nice to have a private transport and guide like George for our stay in Athens.
We enjoyed bout day tour with Takis. He gave us the important details of each sight we visited and waited patiently for us. We accidentally paid double ticket for the new museum but Takis refunded us the money in cash with no problem. He also took us to a great place for lunch. We fully recommend this tour with Takis! Thank you for everything! Mia & Niels
We had an excellent Athens and Cape Sounio trip with Vasilis. Vasilis is very accommodating driver and provided us with water, WiFi and phone charge; excellent air conditioned van with a lot of space. He is prompt and was by our hotel at the scheduled time and is very careful driver. Vasilis showed main Athens highlights and recommended nice Greek restaurant for a dinner. We would go with Vasilis again.
Takis was a wonderful guide with helpful information. Car was comfortable. Trip was very flexible. Go to the Acropolis first to avoid crowds. Buy entry tickets on line before you go.
This was definitely a well planned out tour. We were able to take our time and see all the amazing views and architecture all around us. Takis was so sweet and personable and gave us a fun history lesson about all the sites and about his sweet dog Dexter. Would definitely recommend Takis as our tour guide again when we come back to Athens, Thank you again Takis. :)
Tom was a fantastic driver and a great laugh. Got a metal playlist including Arch enemy, Amon Amarth, soilwork etc. Top that off with a fantastic sunset at the temple of Posidon it was fantastic evening with a beautiful dinner to end the evening.
Tom was great ! Made the tour very informative ! Also told some funny jokes ! If I ever come again I would not want anyone but Tom to be our tour guide !
We loved this tour! We were able to see many of the attractions we wanted to see, plus some that we wouldn’t have even discovered without a driver. Our driver Dimitri was excellent and made the day very enjoyable! We also loved the drive to Cape Sounio. A very enjoyable way to tour the seaside!
Petros our driver was great and flexible with the time.He was answering all the questions and gave us the best tips.We definitely recommend Petros and my Athens transfer
Petros was our travelguide in our trip to Sounio. I want to thank "my athens transfer"for our experience. He was very polite and friendly and helpful. I recommend him for your tour.
Petros Karras was an excellent driver, very friendly and through out the trip, he was showing us the city, sharing curiosities about Greece and made the trip so short with the help of his conversation. If I go back to Athens, I will again book with Athens Transfers.
George went above and beyond! No other way to describe this tour other than worth it.! He made sure my son and I have the best experience and get the most out of this full day tour.. Pick up from our hotel was on time, even though we stayed farther down Athens City. We got back to the hotel at a decent time as well. We had loads of fun going to different archeological sites and museums. George overall did a splendid and phenomenal job. He is very knowledgeable, and he answered all my questions about the area. From the Olympic stadium, to the city of Athens where we stopped to see the change of the guards at the tomb of unknown soldiers, then viewed the temple of Olympus, showed us where the national garden, pointed a famous bakery in the city that had a long line, to the acropolis and acropolis museum then we stopped by a taverna by the sea and had a beautiful view during our lunch. The proceeded to the Lake of Vouliagmeni where he explained the history of it, then head our way to Cape Sounio and view the Temple of Poseidon. As soon as we were done he start to head back and realized I left my card at the souvenir shop. Gorge without hesitation turned around so I can find and get my card. Gladly it was still at the shop. Anyway, our last stop was an old forgotten theater in a town where silver mining used to be a thing. All throughout the drive Gorge pointed out sooo many things and places and just endless stories of the antiquity of Greece. It feel like my son and I immersed ourselves back to the ancient times. Thank you for this amazing and wonderful experience Gorge. This one is top notched.!!! A MUST BOOK TRIP.. -Rhanee
The all day Athens was a great way to start my birthday vacation trip. The tour was truly amazing, George our guide is exceptionally knowledgeable, very kind and courteous. The van was very comfortable and air was perfect nice and cool on a very hot day! The lunch at 4 Brothers was totally above what I expected right next to the sea and incredible food! Definitely worth the trip, lots of walking and climbing stairs. Breathtaking views were worth it. Loved, loved loved this Athens tour.
Our driver and guide George was fantastic!! He made our trip so memorable! The drive was so comfortable and always offered us water at each stop. He was very knowledgeable of the history of Athens and each area he took us to. He also let us spend as much time as we wanted when viewing each site. Our favorite part of the tour was when he took us along the Athens Rivera coast towards Cape Sounion. We stopped at a beach and had about an hour and a half to swim and enjoy the area. The water was so clear and the view was breathtaking!! He took us to an amazing local tavern along the coast. It couldn’t of been more perfect. On our way back to the hotel he even let us stop by Lake Vouliagmeni to get some pics. Highly recommend doing this private tour! It’s worth EVERY penny!!
Jorge was an incredible driver, he explained everything and was very kind. He took us to eat at an amazing restaurant by the sea, he had a lot of patience with each stop and made sure to replace the time we were in traffic. I highly recommend the tour, even more if you go with Jorge
Our driver was the Best. Because of the marathon that day in Athens, some roads were restricted, but our driver took us to all the "Must see" places in an itinerary that saved wait time at the venues. Cape Sounio was an added bonus.
We went in the day by car and arrived at the entrance they asked us 20 € to take a walk of 100 meters and to see a dozen columns above a rock. Wasted money. You can still see it from the outside. Besides the columns there is nothing. The same sea view can be admired from a bar that is there before the entrance. In Athens much larger and more beautiful sites are free. AVOID
We were in Athens for a day after island hopping and we saw a lot. Fotis drove us past many sights in the city. He also has a lot to say. Tell him what you want and he will make it happen. After Athens we drove all the way along the coast to Cape Sounion. We enjoyed it!
