Hard to know what to say about this. The tour itself is very enjoyable and the guide was excellent. But the organisation was a terrible experience. Booked for the day before, no one at meeting place at the instructed time. Found the owner’s number in the website..she went away to check and told me the tour was cancelled. She booked me on to the next day. Arrived 10 minutes before departure time but no one arrived. Phoned the owner again. It turned out I wasn’t on the guide’s list and he had left early because everyone had arrived. He then had to come back for me. It was a poor experience.

This was fun time. Like most food tours, you walk around Athens and sample the food as though it was a multi-course meal, with each course at a different location. Our guide, Filippos, kept everyone corralled and took us to multiple shops for gyros, Feta Cheese, and a multitude of other Greek dishes. Discussing the history of the food, how it’s made and various regional differences. We also walked through the local meat and seafood market which was interesting. A good way to spend the afternoon.
Great food tour. Plenty of authentic Greek food. You won’t be going to touristy locations. Spanakopita, yogurt, cheeses, a ‘meatball’ gyro, coffee, etc. We can barely move. Filippos was very knowledgeable and fun. Thanks, Filippos.
This is the best way to experience authentic Greek food! We tasted spanakopita, Greek donuts, and coffee among other things. We also got to walk through the meat and fish market and the flea market. Ask for Penny. She’s the best tour guide!! 10/10 would highly recommend if you’re ever in Athens.
We did not only get to know Greek food better but also talked about culture and other things.
We had an amazing food tour and completely lucked out with a private tour also! My mom and I were the only tour guests that day and we had Lef all to ourselves. Fantastic tour with a great variety of tastes representing the essence of Athens. Lef shared food insights while we also learned history and his story. It is clear the tour guides at this company have a great reputation, as we ran into other tour groups along the way and they all said Lef was the best! Highly recommend for a delightful morning or evening 💕
Excellent food tour today in Athens. Guide was fun to be with, super knowledgeable, and the food was excellent. A++ would highly recommend!!
Amazing tour guide! So much great information The food samples were outstanding
Lef was an amazing tour guide. He was friendly and offered good recommendations and history throughout the whole trip.
A wonderful discovery of every taste of Greece ! Thanks to Lef, our highly skilled and nice guide for this job. We enjoyed every moment.
The tour was led by a bilingual guide. The grilled octopus drizzled with lemon and olive oil, the pork marinated in a blend of oregano and garlic, are some classics food dishes we enjoyed. It was like a flavorful overview of this cuisine of this region.
Despite the rain deluge, we had a wonderful time on this food tour. Our guide Maria was fun and enthusiastic, and everywhere she took us was a culinary surprise. The tour is well thought-out, with a good variety of food and drink. The highlight is the mezze style meal that had too many dishes to count. I was afraid the dishes would be somewhat similar to Greek restaurants in the USA, but this was not the case. Everything was unique and different and new to me. I wish I could give this tour more than 5 stars!
We spent a lovely afternoon with our guide Lef, who showed us around Athens hidden secrets when it comes to food. Lef kept up a very nice atmosphere and energy the entire. And we did certainly not go hungry. This will be a nice memory of Athens.
The guide and food tasting experience were excellent. However the company gave us the wrong meeting place so we missed the first stop. They were unapologetic and quite unpleasant.
Lef is a personable and kind man. He has a great deal of knowledge about the history of the places we visited. I would definitely recommend this tour.
Maria was a wonderful we did the ultimate food tour great tips for food along the way for us to visit during our stay we ate like kings during the tour
The food was great and our tour guide was very knowledgeable also the wallk was very easy not long distances.
When we visited Athens in 2024, we didn't have time for this tour so I wanted to be sure we booked it this time. What an awesome experience this was! Maria was our guide and I feel incredibly lucky to have had her. She had a joyful personality with a terrific sense of humor and was incredibly kind. We learned so much about the things we tasted, the places we visited as well as about Athens and Greece history. Per other reviews, we hadn't eaten or drank anything prior to our tour which started at 9:30 am and finished around 1:30. We were so full by the end of it we aren't even having dinner this evening! Absolutely worth booking this tour and we would do it again if we could!!!
Elias was a knowledgeable, friendly guide with helpful local insight. He took us to several great spots with good variety.
Awesome experience! Highly recommend!! Our guide Lef (Lefteris) was informative, friendly, and inclusive. A definite early on in your Athens itinerary to get your bearings and take some amazing food. Efcharistó poly!!! 😁
Twelve of us did this foodie tour of Athens with Maria and she was amazing! She introduced us to Koulouri (Greek sesame bread rings), Greek pies, Greek coffee, fantastic Greek cheeses, delicious Greek food (a huge table full and more kept coming and coming to try), as well as Greek white wine and beer. We even had Greek donuts for dessert. Then Maria walked us back to our meeting point and helped communicate in Greek with our transportation so we could get back to our cruise ship. She went above and beyond to assist us, and we really enjoyed the tour with her!
Ilias is a great guide. 10/10 expertise and communication. Food was delicious and different than touristy places. yum
Our guide, Maria, was awesome at her job! We learned so much about Greek food and culture. I would absolutely recommend this excursion to anyone.
If you’re looking for the best food tour in Athens, look no further — this one with Maria is absolutely top-notch! From the moment we met her, Maria was warm, welcoming, and incredibly knowledgeable about Greek cuisine and culture. What really made the experience special was Maria herself. Her passion for Greek food and history shone through in every story and explanation. She made us feel like we were exploring Athens with a friend who just happened to know all the best spots. This tour was a highlight of our trip, and we left not only full, but with a much deeper appreciation for Greek culinary traditions. Highly recommend!
We had a fantastic experience with Food on Foot! Our guide, Eleftherios (Lef), was incredibly friendly, informative, and passionate about Athenian food, history, and culture. He took us to amazing local spots we’d never have found on our own—real hidden gems not even on the internet! Every bite was delicious, and the stories behind them made it all the more special. A perfect way to explore Athens like a local. Highly recommended!
Ioanna was a wonderful guide! She was very knowledgeable about the history and food culture she shared with us and her English was perfect. The tour was very well paced and the food was delicious. The progression of foods was very appropriate from breakfast through lunch. I took this tour with my 18 year old son who has Down Syndrome, and we were joined by a family of 5 with 2 young children. It was the perfect sized group and a great experience. We loved my first food tour and my son already wants to go in another one!
A great introduction to Greek food. A chance to sample a wide selection from generational artisans. An easy walking tour, although very hot. Highlights were the Greek donuts, the coffee and the cheeses. But there was so much more that was also excellent. Elias was friendly & knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
GREAT experience! We were a group of 6 which was perfect. The tour was very nice, food was amazing and very diverse, it gave us a great overview of Greek cuisine and I would highly recommend! Ioanna was amazing as a tour guide too, she was lovely and knew exactly was she was talking about! We had a really great time, it’s one of the best things we did in Athens!
Definitely go hungry to this tour. I sampled, pie, cheeses, snacks, coffee and all seemed very local hidden gems. There's a lot of walking so wear comfortable shoes and clothes.
We had a lovely afternoon with Ioanna and we are happy we booked with Athens Food on Foot. Our group size of 6 was so manageable and that did not seem the case with other groups we saw. Ioanna was a wonderful guide - she was joyful, enthusiastic, engaging and she loves food! Do not hesitate to book with this company.
I loved the Athens Ultimate Food on Foot Tour! My family did the Ultimate Food Tour which combined history, food, wine, neighborhoods, churches, and the Greek urban culture in a unique four hour tour that left my family feeling richer. Our first stop was a Greek breakfast which included a traditional Greek breakfast of yogurt, ‘koulouri’ sesame pastry. and Greek coffee. From there we visited a selection of Greek delis where we savored bites of pies, spanakopita, cheese, meats and olives, sampled olive oil, mousaka, tapas, Greek wine and much more! The food was wonderful...but our tour guide, Maria, was AWESOME. She was professional, yet bubbly, friendly and personable. She cared about us and wanted to make sure that we had a positive experience. We were celebrating my daughter's 30th birthday and Maria slipped away for a few minutes and came back with a small birthday cake, a rose and even a candle for the cake. It was such a thoughtful gesture and a pleasant surprise. Maria was also very knowledgeable about Plaka and Athens in general. She gave us recommendations on other places to visit in Athens (including rooftop bars). If we're ever in Athens again, my family will definitely do the Athens Food on Foot Tour and, of course, we will request Maria as our Tour Guide! Ps--Thanks to Anna for helping to make this experience memorable and pleasurable as well. Our group was a small size of five people. Because of this we got the one-on-one attention that we needed from Maria.
The tour guide, Philip, was very personable and informative. Everything was nicely paced. Food selections were great and delicious. We went to parts of Athens that we would not have done alone. We highly recommend this tour, and when you do ask for Philip!!
Quick review: 8 stops, 7 with food or drink. 3hrs total, very easy walking. Breakfast and lunch catered for so don’t pre-eat. Worth it! Longer: Katerina was our guide today for the Athens Food Tour, starting at Monastariki square. Easy to get to, good communication throughout and easy to find on the day. Katerina was knowledgeable, funny and made the trip very easy and interesting. Stops: Bakery for a sesame seed bun, second bakery for spinach pie and a sweet semolina/custard pie, coffee heated over hot sand, shop for honey/pistachio/nuts/olive oil/liquor tasting, meat and fish market for a visit - no tasting obviously, bakery for doughnuts with honey, cheese mongers for four cheeses and yoghurt, then final stop for mezze for around five-six dishes.
With several tours to choose from, this one jumped out at us and we could not have been happier! It was excellent. And it’s a small business- not a faceless large tour company. Support a local providing a high quality experience! You will love it!
Maria was a fun and knowleadgeable guide and took us to some interesting hidden gems popular with local residents that make the most delicious food! I loved the tour and would definitely recommend it I wouldnt donit in the summer season though as its too hot.
Kostantinos was a fantastic guide and host. Great food and great background to the dishes and what food means in Greece. So much food! Thank you!
Lefteris was a great guide; the food was amazing, and learning more about the neighborhoods of Athens was very interesting. We would recommend this tour to anyone looking to sample Athenian food
Great, got to see places and experience things that I would never have done on my own. The guide was fantastic as well. I would truly recommend this.
Fantastic tour. Informative yummy Kate took us to markets (my favourite in any city). We explored many streets that we returned to during out stay in athens to try again. Highly recommend this tour
This was a fantastic small group experience! If you would like a real taste of Athens (actually many tastes) we would highly recommend. Lefteris, our guide, was knowledgeable, personable and really enjoyed his time showing us around. He tossed in Hellenic and Athenian history as well as some details about his own life here. And, he did it all in the rain with a smile! Made our day.
We had a fantastic time on our food tour. A really relaxing and fun experience, and a great way to learn about the history of the city and the food. Our guide went above and beyond to make sure we all had a great time and tried everything we wanted to taste in Athens. He was excellent at making conversation and sharing his knowledge and experience. A variety of stops and foods to try. I recommend coming hungry!
Even with the Holiday impacting some of the originally scheduled stops our tour guide Christos did an amazing job introducing us to some favorite foods of Athens and giving us history and cultural references along the way. The tour by Athens Food on Foot was better than expected and with our group of 5 (ages 25-84) along with a few others was able to encourage participation by our guide’s enthusiasm, professionalism and kindness. So much food we couldn’t even eat it all! We would love to come back and try additional food tours again with this company especially if we can get Christos to show us around. What a great experience and very recommended!
Great value for the money! We were definitely well-fed by the end of the tour. The variety of tastings we experienced was delightfully authentic and culturally-rich. Our guide was Kate - a fun, friendly Greek woman who made us feel like. locals by the time we were finished. Kate was also knowledgeable and professional, and easy to understand. Hubby and I highly recommend!
We heard about the Food on Foot tours through the Greece Travel Secrets Facebook group. We booked the Classic Food Tasting Tour for two in June. Our guide was Kostas, and he had the most contagious energy. After we met the small group of fellow tourists, we started exploring the city. We tried a wide variety of food and went to multiple establishments, including a Greek family-style sit-down restaurant with many dishes to try, a cheese shop, Little Kook for a pretzel thing, a sit-down restaurant for meat pies, a Greek coffee shop, a donut place, etc. Kostas made the most of our time with information about each place and menu, as well as telling interesting stories along the way. The tour was at 1:45pm so we used it as our lunch and just had a lite dinner afterwards because we were so stuffed! We recommend this tour if you want a great guided break from sightseeing and a full belly!
I would highly recommend this tour. We are not big tour folks and kept them to a minimum. But this one was worth it because we learned a lot. In fact, it was the highlight of our Athens stay. Our guide, Kate, worked hard to be friendly and knowledgeable and to add value to our experience. We ate a lot! But each item was explained and of interest. She explained regional differences and farming differences. We got to try authentic Greek coffee, too. The tour was a good value for the money as well.
We had a great time on the Athens Food on Foot morning tour. Kate was fabulous! We loved tasting, and learning more about, the traditional food (and coffee) of Athens. The lunch was delicious and we were so full afterwards! We took the tour on our first day in Athens and it was a great introduction to the area too!
We had the greatest guide Kostas for our Food on foot -walking tour. With his warm hospitality Kostas made us feel like his friends. Also all the foods we tasted were very tasty and we learned a lot, not only about the food but also about Greece and Grecians.
We really enjoyed this tour. Saw many parts of Athens and the stops were wonderful. Our guide, Kostas, knew all of our names. He made the tour fun. We met a family from Australia and enjoyed talking with them. The filo pastry pies were so good. The meal at the end was authentic and the restaurant owner was so proud. Thanks for a great tour.
What a great way to get to experience the wonderful food available in Athens while learning more about the culture, food preparation and expertise that goes into the making of the food. We would highly recommend this tour and our tour guide Kate. She was terrific.
The highlight of our trip to Athens was the food walking tour with our guide Kostas. He absolutely made the experience so enjoyable with his energy and passion for food. The food stops were delicious, getting to taste such traditional, authentic and delicious Greek food. We were so full! I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to see the city and taste the best of what Athens has to offer. We are so grateful to Kostas for making it a food tour to remember. Thank you.
