Staff is very attentive, polite and punctual. Too many people. I’d suggest less activities with more time at each with the guide. Not suitable for older people.

Itinerary
Day 1
1
On day one, your journey starts as you board our private, air-conditioned bus at 07:45 AM, conveniently departing from the street across the Central Railway Station of Athens (Stathmos Larisis). Sit back and enjoy a scenic bus ride through the enchanting countryside, offering picturesque glimpses of mainland Greece. Enjoy a relaxing 30-minute stop at a local store halfway along the route, perfect for refreshments and a restroom break.
At 12:45 arrive at Kalambaka, where your tour guide will be waiting for you, holding a signboard with your name and will transfer you to your hotel for some relaxation.
In the afternoon we will pick you up from your hotel for the “Amazing Meteora Sunset” tour. During this guided tour you will have the opportunity to see all six majestic monasteries and admire the interior of one of them. You will view some of Meteora’s most spectacular “hidden gems” like the ancient hermitages of Bandovas, the Byzantine church of the Assumption of Virgin Mary and the picturesque old district of Kalabaka. You will also discover the “other side” of Meteora, like the truth about why the hermits settled in these imposing caves a thousand years ago and how the monks achieved the “impossible”. Last but not least, you will enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views, capture some amazing photos and witness one of the most breathtaking sunsets you will ever see. At the end of the tour we will transfer you back to your hotel where you can relax or take a walk to explore on your own the town of Kalabaka.
Day 2
2
Next morning, you will be able to participate in a 4h tour of your choice. You can either participate in our 4h “Meteora: Morning Half Day Sightseeing and Monasteries Tour” to further explire the monasteries or our 4h “Meteora: Hiking Tour on Hidden Trails” to discover the hidden walking trails of Meteora.
The Monastery of Saint Stephen’s is located just above the city of Kalampaka and is the most accessible monastery in Meteora, as there are no steps to reach the entrance and the access is easy through a small stone bridge.
The Monastery of Great Meteoron or Transfiguration of Christ, expresses the greatness and history of the Holy Meteora, as it is the oldest and most important monastery.
The Roussanou Monastery, also known as Arsani, stands on top of an impressive vertical and steep cliff of Meteora, between the Monasteries of Saint Nicholas Anapafsas and Varlaam.
The Varlaam Monastery or Monastery of All the Saints is located on an imposing rock exactly opposite of the Great Meteoron and it is the second largest monastery.
After the tour, enjoy some free time in the town of Kalambaka before we pick you up from your hotel at 17:30 to transfer you to the bus returning to Athens. You will arrive in Athens at 22:15.

Fabulous tour. So pleased I chose to be guided. Learned so much about the history and area. Our guides were excellent and so knowledgeable. Nothing was too much trouble.
Such a wonderful experience, and I’m so glad we got Kosta’s Tsioumas as our guide. It didn’t take long for me to realize that understanding of Meteora, art, and history is second to none. There wasn’t a single question of mine that went unanswered. Thank you so much Kosta, and hope to be back soon!
Booked online with Mereoratrip.com just 3 days before trip. Everything was just great. Comfortable busses, excellent guides, very nice hotel with very good breakfast. Exceptional value for the money. Customer service is fast and can help with all needs right away. Defenetly will recommend instead of driving car if you not traveling in that direction. Happy we did this choice.
Visiting the Meteora Monasteries was a 5 Star event. The 3 Star rating is reflective of the organization which left much to be desired. We arrived at the meeting location by taxi. Several large tour buses arrived parked along both sides of a wide boulevard. There was no tour guide to direct us to which bus to board. It was necessary to check in with each driver to see if our names were on the list. Arriving in the Meteora area the bus driver dropped people at various hotels. We were 2 of the last 2 passengers to be dropped off. The driver was about to get back on the bus to leave when I had to ask which was our hotel as there were several. He looked at me like I was crazy until I showed him that none of the paperwork Viator had provided to me listed a hotel. It was only then he looked at his list to find our names and hotel. The local guides were very knowledgeable
I loved it. Definitely choose 2 days instead of 1. The hotel was lovely. Check the weather though, it was foggy, still awesome, though
Highly recommend. Long bus ride is the only negative. Hotel was 5 stars, do the hike on day two. *****
The guides were fantastic! Provided so much interesting information, very clear on timings, very inclusive of all people on the tour.
Highly recommend this company. We did the 2 day Meteora trip staying overnight in Kalambanka. I must admit we were a bit worried when we arrived at the station in Athens to go on the trip....so many buses and so many people...but the Meteora Trip bus was smaller than the others, super comfortable and a great safe driver. Hotel accommodation was great, as were the tours we did. We were hoping to do the hike but this was cancelled due to the weather...it rained all day. Because of the rain and diminished visibility our guides adapted the itinerary to ensure we got the most viewing possible. Very happy we booked with Meteora Trips and highly recommend them...also glad we did the 2 day trip as the monasteries were not as hectic in the mornings before the day trippers arrive.
It is a 5 hours drive from Athens; really long way; but worth it. The company, Meteroa Boutique Travel was well organised and everything was on time and very efficient. The local and Athens buses were comfortable. One complaint, which ruined my trip and I truly hope they improve is: the driver on the way back (Sunday, 7 September) had non-stop personal conversations on his mobile phone, I seriously mean non-stop! I’m not exaggerating or saying this lightly. His one conversation lasted 45 minutes and within a minute, he dialled the next number and continued with another very lengthy call. My head was pounding from his constant talking and it continued all the way back to Athens. It was pure hell! Plus he had the radio playing horrific music. It is also nerve-wrecking being in a bus when the driver is focused on personal calls. We were tired and wanting to rest and travel back in peace. Please dear Meteora Travel, ask your drivers to limit personal calls when driving a bus full of tourists.
Fabulous tour from start to finish! Bus trip was smooth and comfortable. Hotel comfortable and friendly. The highlight was our tour guide, Katerina, who really shared her knowledge and the essence of the incredible Meteora with us. The sunset tour was gorgeous and throughout the whole two days we were awed by the experience! Thankyou! A lifetime memory.
The guide was local and knowledgeable about the area. This hike was our favorite activity in Meteora.
The good: amazing views and good local tour guides. The bad: Way too much downtime!!! We booked the overnight tour and the first day we had 3 hours to explore the town before our sunset tour. That was more than enough to see the town. The following day, we did a morning tour that finished around 12:30 but our return bus ride back to Athens was not until 5:30. 5 hours with nothing to do - what a waste of time. When the return bus finally arrived, it was completely full of people who were on a previous tour. So, we had the last 2 seats on a very large bus. I guess we should be lucky to have 2 seats together albeit in the rear of the bus. Very misleading as we were not in any way prepared or notified of this because we booked “a small group tour”. Do not book this overnight trip with “MeteoraTrip”.
Very well organized Tour.. Glad that I chose the 2 days. Hotel was very nice..Tourguide for both days also very knowledged . Everything worked very smooth and relaxing.
It was very nice 2 days and 1 night trip. Since it’s including sunset tour and morning hiking, when we got to town. Hotel allowed to check in early so that we could relax before the sunset tour. Sunset tour was very nice although we could get in only one Monastry tour stop by all 5 Monastries. Next morning, hiking tour was very nice to see hidden monastries. Only thing is after morning tour we had to wait for return bus till 5:30 which was too long. It would be. Ice if we had a choice to return earlier. Over all it was very nice trip.
Very good organizing, very nice and professional team. We enjoyed specifically the first day of the tour, since we couldn’t climb the stairs on the second day.
We had an incredible experience with MeteoraTrip Tours on our Athens to Meteora trip on the 24th & 25th of February 2025. From start to finish, everything was perfectly organized, making for a seamless and truly memorable journey. A special mention goes to our driver George, who navigated the roads with absolute professionalism, ensuring a smooth and comfortable ride. The coach was very comfortable, making the long journey enjoyable and relaxing. And we cannot praise Katerina enough—her deep knowledge, engaging storytelling, and wonderful sense of humor made the tour even more special. She kept us informed throughout with fascinating insights, and her outstanding English made everything so easy to follow. Our overnight stay in Kalabaka was equally enjoyable, with a lovely night at Hotel Kostas, which provided great comfort after a day of exploring. The views were absolutely stunning, and the entire experience felt immersive and enriching. If you’re planning a trip to Meteora, we highly recommend MeteoraTrip Tours—their expertise and passion for this unique place truly shine through. Thank you, George and Katerina, for making our visit unforgettable! From Toula, Michael, Frank, and Lynn
Feeling that you were touching the sky! An experience that you would want to repeat. Should consider an overnight as opposed to the one day tour.
While the local guides were lovely, and Meteora is amazing, there were many logistical problems with this trip which many people on the trip were complaining about. We knew the trip departed at 8am, which was hard with jet lag… but when we arrived in Meteora at 12:00 we were then forced to wait in the hotel lobby with our luggage (or else leave it unattended) until 14:00. This was extremely painful, sitting in uncomfortable chairs when we just wanted to nap or otherwise have something to do. Next, the two tours were not coordinated… so there was significant overlap between the two days. Third, when the tours finished on the second day, there was another 5 hours waiting in the town (after check-out, again with our luggage in the hotel lobby) before the bus left. So we didn’t get back to Athens until nearly 23:00, and all the restaurants were closed. Fourth, the bus trips themselves involved many unnecessary stops. In a mere 4 hours of driving, there was 2 stops totaling 1 hour of waiting. Finally… we got food poisoning from the rest stops on the return trip, which we only chose to eat at because the return schedule left us unable to make a dinner reservation in Athens (from the TripAdvisor itinerary it seemed we’d be back at a reasonable hour, which was not the case).
Right from the pick up in Athens the trip was well organized. On arrival in Meteroa we were taken to our Hotel given an itinerary which explained pick up times. Our guide Katarina was very knowledgeable on the area and explained everything well. The next day we chose the hike and Katarina was our guide again. We were taken to places and ruins that you don't see on the bus. Thank you for a great 2 days. Will recommend to any friends coming this way.
It was amazing. Beautiful visit and the monasteries were just incredible. Loved it! The tour was perfect and the guides and fever very professional
Amazing trip. Bill (not their Greek name) was a fantastic tour guide that I would highly recommend. Very good experience.
Throughly reccomend. The place is amazingly. Definitely do the hike. You get the best view of the monestrties. Our guide was great. She had great English.
Amazing experience. The organization was great since the tickets send by email to the itinerary explanation. Tours and guides were great on the explanations given. The hotel was fine. A little old for a 4 stars but the room had great views of the mountains. I stayed at kalambak but i believe saying at kastraki would have been even better as it is smaller and more beautiful. I truly recommend this trip.
The tour was excellent! We viewed the monasteries afar and within with awe, observing the devout dedication with which the monks and nuns pursue their faith. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and willing to answer the many questions we had. His insight into the history of the monasteries and geographical phenomena that led to the formation of the rocks, coupled with the story about the Monastery of the Holy Trinity and its connection to an 80s James Bond film truly brought the experience to life. Absolutely recommended!
Hike on the second day was excellent. Christos from Meteora Trip guided our small group. He was the best guide one can wish for: very nice, attentive, deeply knowledgeable about the history and geology of this place. He did a great job making the group feel at ease. I'd recommend this hike! The other half days was mainly.on the bus and visiting a monastery. It was good too, but the hike was definitely the highlight for me.
Really good 2 day overnight rail trip from Athens! On the first day, as we were the only people on the sunset tour that day, my wife and I had our own "private tour". Bill was our guide/driver and he spoke very knowledgeably about the monasteries and the history of the area. He was patient, considerate and spoke excellent English. He also recommended a restaurant in the town for our evening meal which was really good. The second day, the weather was not so great but again Bill made the tour really interesting and we visited the monasteries which we had not seen on the previous day. The trip ran very smoothly and I would definitely recommend Meteoratrip.com to anyone wishing to see the fabulous landscape and monasteries of Meteora.
Everything was on time and well organized. The Hotel Famissa Kosta we stayed at was excellent with a balcony view of the rocks. Staff was great. The mini vans were comfortable. The sunset tour was magnificent and the morning tour as well. The tour guides and drivers were considerate and full of knowledge and easy to understand. They stopped at many viewpoints for pictures as well as at the Monasteries. The village itself is charming with good places to eat. Overall, even better than expected and expectations were high. The walks into the Monasteries were reasonable for most people but difficult if your mobility is impaired. Lots of stairs, up and downhill. The pace set by the tour guides was perfect. Amazing place and highly recommended.
It was amazing trip, very well organized, many thanks to our guide Vasilis and driver Costa. We saw a beautiful landscape, sunset, historical sites... We really enjoyed our trip. Highly recommended!!!!
It was amazing seeing the magnificent Meteora! Tour was even better with Bill being a wonderful guide. (Not) born in Meteora but raised there, he is very knowledgeable about the history, explaining each site in details. He is definitely passionate about sharing the stories with us tourist. Oh, and he takes nice pictures too! That IS the type of guide you want! Thank you, Bill! :) From: Edy and Shi Ling (Singapore)
We had an amazing experience on this tour! It far exceeded my expectations. We learned so much about the monasteries and how they came to be and the guides went out of their way to answer any questions we had and to make us feel very welcome.
This was an amazing trip! We saw so many historical and breath taking land marks while riding in an air conditioned bus. Our tour guide Vassili and driver Kosta were friendly, spoke English, and very knowledgeable. I never typically write reviews. Although, this is something I will never forget and would love for others to experience!
Fantastic tour and service!!! Since the first email, they took care about everything, information, continue updates, whatsapp line, really impressed. The tour was very good, the hotel for the night stay was amazing. I’d do it again.
Highly recommend. Everything was great. Hotel was clean and nice. Company staff are very helpful. Tour guides are fun and knowledgeable!
This tour was fantastic... The drivers were on time, the tour guide was absolutely so good .. Knowledgeable and funny ..Jim on the Sunset tour was the best!!! The hotel we were put up in was great... Cannot say enough good things about this tour . A must do! Roseanna Boyer U.S.A.
Perfect tour Professional, guide and company The hotel is also perfect with great and delicious breakfast
The tours was excellent. Very good guides and drivers. Always on time for pickups. The hotell was very good. It would have been nice to have an itinerary in advance to know the full schedule for the days.
Great experience, even at the beginning of the tour there was some confusion on our part and theirs, and they took care of fixing it. We felt very comfortable and grateful, we visited and made many stops to see the monasteries from different angles. The guides are well-informed and pleasant. I learned and enjoyed a lot. We did the 2-day tour, it is definitely worth it! I recommend it to everyone who is interested; with Meteoratrip, you only need to worry about enjoying!
Great experience, very rewarding. And extraordinary. It's impressive and worth it. Guides the 2 interesting days
I had a great experience with this tour and organization. They are incredibly professional, friendly and work in a very neat way. Everything was well organized, they were on time and gave clear information. The tour itself was fantastic; I saw so many beautiful places. Moreover, the overnight stay in a 4-star hotel with breakfast was really a plus. For the price you pay, this is absolutely worth it. I can definitely recommend this tour!
