Cape Sounion is noted for its Temple of Poseidon, one of the major monuments of the Golden Age of Athens. Its remains are perched on the headland, surrounded on three sides by the sea.
Lake Vouliagmeni is a small brackish-water lake fed by underground currents seeping through the mass of Mount Hymettus located to the south of Vouliagmeni.

Our guide was awesome! He was hilarious, well informed, on time, a great driver. I'm often nervous in other countries booking tours bc... you never know! Can confirm, this company is not only legit, they're excellent! Definitely worth the money (which was fair and affordable!). Also, the drive to and area around the Temple of Poseidon is so beautiful! We had an extra day in Athens after our cruise and our guide for our Athens City Tour suggested this tour as well. Glykeria was on time picking us up from the cruise port and we had an amazing time driving through the country side outside of Athens ending up at Poseidon's Temple and then on to our hotel. She was very knowledgable and not only told us the history of what we were seeing, but also myths and legends that went with it. I would definitely recommend Welcome Pickups and especially Glykeria if you are in Athens.
We had one day before our cruise to see all of Athens. The full day private tour exceeded our expectations. Glykeria was amazing. I came with no plans and she immediately planned our day and recommended a great place to eat. She took us to a couple beautiful spots that we would not have known about without a locals guidance. She was very knowledgeable, sharing lots of history along with fun mythology stories. Highly recommend.
I would NOT recommend doing this from Athens. It should not even be advertised the way it is from Athens. We were only able to do the Temple - there is no way to do the itinerary advertised coming from Athens. I was not informed of this when I booked. I tried to resolve it with Viator - I thought we had a resolution, but they then refused to follow through with what we agreed on. I am thoroughly disappointed and suggest you look for a different tour if you want to actually see the itinerary advertised. That being said, this is not a reflection on our driver - he was prompt and lovely. Viator should not keep this tour advertised the way it is. Do not book it.
Ilias contacted us the day before and suggested we leave an hour later than our original booking time to get the best view. We left at 6:15 in early June and it was absolutely beautiful! The sun set around 8:40. He was on time, friendly, accommodating and eager to share his Greek culture with us. 6 out of 5 stars!

We spent the morning with Ilea’s Kanteres again before he delivered us to our cruise ship. He was fun and engaging and a talented driver. We went to the Temple of Poseidon after a beautiful drive along the Aegean coast. We stopped to see an amazing thermal lake , and the oldest theater in Greece (4000 BC). We had a 4 hour experience to Cape Sounion, driven by Ilias. He was very friendly and explained and pointed out many sights as we were driving. When we got there there was an amazing view, perfect for picture taking. We visited at around 6 before the sunset and managed to avoid the crowd coming in to watch the sunset. It was 20 euros for admission and free for children, but the view was definitely worth it! The car was pleasant and clean, we have no complaints and overall this was an amazing part of our experience in Athens, our family had so much fun!

Our guide, Ilias, was incredible. We initially hired him to get us from the airport. He mentioned that he does tours, when we mentioned going to a lake nearby he said “ why don’t I take you and we can go to Poseidon’s temple too!” We are so glad we did. Ilias is full of knowledge and is incredibly kind. He took us to get lunch on the way back into town, which was just as amazing as he is. He made our trip to Athens very memorable. I highly recommend this tour and any others with Ilias 😌
Ilias picked us up from the airport promptly and then we began our adventure. We went to the beautiful Lake Vouliagmeni and saw how the cave became a deep lake due to an earthquake. We then drove the coast and went to the Temple of Poseidon, which was amazing. We spent time going through the remains. We then went for a drive and ended up at our hotel.
Expensive experience with the company and recommend / suggest to directly contact Ilias kanteres for such kind of trip. He is very professional, friendly, knowledgeable on his country/ points of interest and easy to deal with.
Our chauffeur Glykeria was excellent. Very informative, flexible and gave us lots of useful tips for eating and drinking in Athens. The drive out to Cape Sounion was good and the site itself v interesting. Worth doing for a change of scenery from the city vibe in Athens.
My friend and I had a wonderful half day tour south of Athens to Lake Vouliagmeni and Temple of Poseidon with Ilias. He was knowledgeable, friendly and made the day a perfect experience. We had 5 hours to spare after debarking from our Med cruise and one of us had an injured leg. Glykeria organised an amazing tour for us, with great flexibility, amazing places (the Temple of Poseidon was out of this world) easily accessible, and a wonderful fish lunch in a Greek Taverna by the sea. We did this trip the day we finished a cruise. It was perfect because we didn’t have to arrange ground transfer from the port to our hotel in Athens. Our driver, Glykeria was very knowledgeable about the area, and gave us more context to what we were seeing/experiencing. My kids loved the stop at the beach and the fish market/restaurant. I loved seeing the Temple of Poseidon - the views are incredible. It was a great day and one we will remember for a long time.
We booked a full day experience with Glykeria, she tailored the trip to what we did/didn’t see yet. She was so personable and answered all our questions. She was knowledgeable about history, Greek mythology and entertained us with many stories. Her driving was also great. We did the half day trip from Athens to Cape Sounion, with Michael as our driver and it was such a pleasure. We were looking for a low key way to see some sites outside of Athens, the Temple of Poseidon, in particular. Michael gave us a nice tour of several spots along the way from Athens. We had good conversation and he told us about Greek life and living in Athens with his family. His car is comfortable and clean, he was thoughtful to provide us water, and it was a nice ride to the cape. At the end, he took us to a local restaurant and the food was excellent. Overall, it was a day well spent and we are happy we did this tour!

I am not exaggerating when I say that booking John (Giannis) for an airport transfer turned out to be the single best decision of my month-long trip to Greece. During that first short ride, John distinguished himself as such a smart, thoughtful, courteous, professional driver and tour guide that I booked him the next week for a private tour of the Temple of Poseidon during a long layover in Athens. During that trip, John shared his love and knowledge of Athens as well as his home town of Corfu, which inspired me to book a spontaneous trip there. John is a treasure trove of all things Greek - mythology, history, music, culture, local destinations off the beaten track, and fantastic recommendations for local food. He gave me so many tips for places to see in Athens and Corfu that he truly did make me fall in love with his country. And just on the driving front, he’s punctual, a great communicator, keeps lots of cold water in his immaculate car to keep you refreshed, offers WiFi and chargers during the ride, and has the most contagious, joyful laugh you will ever hear. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

Our driver, John was great! He picked us up at the airport when we first arrived in Athens. He suggested for our return trip, since we were going to spend the night at a hotel near the airport, to book the half day trip to Cape Sounion. He picked us up at our hotel and took us to Cape Sounion with some stops along the way. He was very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. He made our last day in Greece very enjoyable. We ended the excursion at a taverna and he even called ahead to make sure that we would be able to get a table since it was Saturday afternoon. After this he dropped us off at our hotel near the airport.
Glykeria was a great driver and informative. She told us plenty of Greek history and recommendations for shopping and eating places. Very considerate and also even provided alcohol sanitizer and wet tissue when we entered the taxi.

Antonis drove us to Cape Sounion passing by the beautiful coast. He has a personal attachment to the places visited and this made the experience all the mightier. The Temple of Poseidon was impressive and the sunset stunning even though there were many clouds. On our way back he brought us to a lovely seafood restaurant, where we hade an outstanding dinner. Manos, our driver, was great! He picked us up from our accommodation and was very informative along the scenic drive to Cape Sounion. Manos even had water and snacks for us in the car for the journey which was a lovely touch. He rang the ticket office when we arrived to make sure what time it closed so we would not miss visiting the Temple of Poseidon. We loved the trip and highly recommend it. Having Mano as our driver was a bonus!

What a wonderful day! We had a "free day" in Athens while waiting for our main Greek tour start, and we spent it by hiring a "private tour" (really a cab driver who was a native Athenian). We took this tour as a way of getting to the Temple of Poseidon without having to catch a tour bus, but got so much more than that. After picking us up at our hotel, our driver took us up Lycabettus Hill for one of the best view in Athens, and then out to the Temple of Poseidon while hitting different stops - the marinas are crazy with all the yachts! After we toured the temple (admission is separate!), we had a quick swim in the ocean and a really enjoyable fresh seafood lunch. Our cab driver was so interesting we invited him to accompany us to the meal, and we learned from his very different perspective on Greek life, culture, and the meaning of life - the center of the universe is Greece, and olive oil is the miracle cure to everything. Eating with a "real" Athenian at a good seafood restaurant helped us order things we might not have otherwise. We did treat him to the meal, but it was very affordable and like eating with a new friend. We hit all of the stops listed on the itinerary, and it ended up being one of our best days in Greece! The trip cost about $190 US - the price is somewhat misleading because the "advertised" price is divided out among more people. We only had two, so it was about $95 per person, but it was definitely worth it since it was highly personalized, we really loved our driver, and it was great not feeling like part of the tour group herd. Highly recommended if you have a free day and want to see the Temple of Poseidon (without the crowd!). It might have been a lot more pricey than the group bus trip, but you get what you pay for.

This tour was one of the highlights of our holiday. Definitely a must see. Bring your cameras and get ready for the most beautiful sunset. Our tour guide was very prompt, professional and great to talk to. He also explain so much of the history to us and what we were visiting. It was a very beautiful experience for our whole family.
What a perfect decision it was to spend a day in the capable hands of Kimon and Welcome Pickups. We knew we wanted to see the coast of Greece and The Temple of Poseidon but we weren't sure what else to do. Best decision we ever made was to let our driver Kimon show us what he thought we ought to see. We ate fresh grilled fresh on the beach at a small taverna; saw Chaos, a mysterious, cavernous hole up close; ate the best Gelato in the Athen sunshine; visited a small port city on the Aegean; traveled through olive groves and hidden gems in Athens. We have memories that will bring smiles to our hearts forever.
This was a very worthwhile excursion to see a different part of Athens and its surroundings. We had an excellent taxi driver, who acted largely as a friend as he took us through some really interesting parts of the "riviera" and the Temple of Poseidon. Exactly on time, with a very clean and comfortable car. A "must do".
