Daphne was very knowledgeable, friendly, and patient. The tour was a great way to get an overview of the history behind the acropolis. Fantastic tour guide who I highly recommend

Itinerary
The Acropolis of Athens is an ancient citadel located on a rocky outcrop above the city of Athens and contains the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historical significance, the most famous being the Parthenon. The word acropolis is from the Greek words ἄκρον and πόλις.
The Parthenon is a former temple on the Athenian Acropolis, Greece, dedicated to the goddess Athena, whom the people of Athens considered their patroness. Construction started in 447 BC when the Delian League was at the peak of its power.
The Theatre of Dionysus is an ancient Greek theatre in Athens. It is built on the south slope of the Acropolis hill, originally part of the sanctuary of Dionysus Eleuthereus. The first orchestra terrace was constructed on the site around the mid- to late-sixth century BC, where it hosted the City Dionysia.
The Odeon of Herodes Atticus is a stone Roman theatre structure located on the southwest slope of the Acropolis of Athens, Greece. The building was completed in AD 161 and then renovated in 1950.
The Erechtheion or Temple of Athena Polias is an ancient Greek Ionic temple-telesterion on the north side of the Acropolis, Athens, which was primarily dedicated to the goddess Athena.
The Temple of Athena Nike is a temple on the Acropolis of Athens, dedicated to the goddesses Athena and Nike. Built around 420 BC, the temple is the earliest fully Ionic temple on the Acropolis.
In the shadow of the Acropolis and its ancient temples, hillside Plaka has a village feel, with narrow cobblestone streets lined with tiny shops selling jewelry, clothes and local ceramics. Sidewalk cafes and family-run tavernas stay open until late, and Cine Paris shows classic movies al fresco. Nearby, the whitewashed homes of the Anafiotika neighborhood give the small enclave a Greek-island vibe.
Bustling market featuring locally sourced seafood, meats, fruits & vegetables, plus street eats.
Lively Monastiraki is known for iconic landmarks including the ruins of Hadrian’s Library, the Ancient Agora and the rebuilt Stoa of Attalos, with a museum exhibiting Athenian artifacts. Monastiraki Flea Market is a jumble of shops selling artisanal soaps, handmade sandals and souvenir T-shirts. The surrounding streets are crammed with traditional tavernas and restaurants, many with Acropolis views

Great tour with our guide Kimon. Very informative, fun, and educational visit. Thank you Kimon! Acropolis is a busy place and it is very helpful to have someone to help you navigate through this amazing archeological wonder.
We booked this tour through our travel agent, and had an AMAZING experience! Dimos K. was our guide. As a native Athenian with a Master's degree in History, he was knowledgeable, personable, and had a lovely sense of humor. In addition to the information he shared, he also knew the perfect angles for stunning photography, the hidden walkways of Anafiotika, and introduced us to our first freddo cuppacinos! Dimos is a gem, and he set the pace for a fantastic holiday!
Alexia was friendly, interesting and knowledgeable… not to mention a great photographer! Alexia made sure to stop and talk in shaded areas and that we stayed well hydrated in the heat. 10 out of 10!
Maria was a pleasant and extremely knowledgeable tour guide. We learned so much about Greek history, archeology and mythology, as well as the birth of democracy. My only criticism would be that I was expecting the tour to be a little more food-focused than it ended up being. We only had souvlaki and bougatsa, which were both delicious, but expected more food related stops as part of this tour.
Maria was FABULOUS as our guide. She met us at our hotel and catered our walking tour to what we wished to see! We saw the highlights around town and loved the Acropolis. She was very knowledgeable about the history and taught us a lot. We loved sitting outside at the quaint coffee shop, and tasting some authentic greek foods in the square. Highly recommend this tour with Maria as your guide.
What an amazing tour! Our tour guides - Stella for the acropolis and Sophia for the food tour - were so nice and very knowledgeable. We highly reccomend Athens Walking Tours, especially is you don’t have too much time in Athens. Stella taught us so much about Greek history and the Acropolis. Sophia took us to amazing markets, restaurants and a family owned dilstillery with great liqueurs. 5 stars!!
Dorian Theodora was wonderful! She was so incredibly knowledgeable about the Acropolis and related Greek Mythology. The day continued through Plaka, where Dorina told us so much about the Greek neighborhoods and current Greek life. The food was authentic and truly delicious. We accidentally ran into her the next day at the Acropolis Museum, where she again could not have been friendlier and more helpful. We recommend her 1000%. Couldn’t be happier!
Tour guide was very knowledgeable about the Acropolis and Parthenon, and Athens generally. We learned quite a bit. She also gave us great recommendations for lunch, dinner and a place to buy a few last gifts we were having trouble finding! We are very pleased.
It was a very informative and relaxing tour. Our tour guide was very much accommodating to what food, shops, and stops we wanted to make during our time together. Definitely worth the time and money to have a local show us Acropolis.
Myself, my wife and two daughters were so fortunate to have Stelios as our private tour guide! He was so energetic and provided history with so much enthusiasm. As we walked to the Acropolis, Stelios would provide interesting facts as we passed through the neighborhoods approaching the Acropolis. We spent a good portion at each major stop
Our guide, Vicki, was excellent. She handled a last minute issue professionally, imparted just the right amount of knowledge so not to overwhelm us, and planned delicious and ample food tastings. We enjoyed the entire Acropolis and food tasting tour!
We loved our excursion with Artemis! She helped us navigate the Metro, gave us a very good explanation of the Acropolis, and introduced us to favourite Greek food and drink. It was wonderful to have a native of Athens show us around and answer our questions. The personal attention of a private tour is well worth the expense.
My husband and I took this tour in May when Greece first reopened. We have done many private tours and this has to be one of our all time favorites! I was a little skeptical due to the lack of recent reviews but took a chance because I figured a lot of it was because of Covid. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and had some props/renderings to make the Acropolis come alive. Then, she took us to some local food spots and had us try local dishes but ones that we wouldn’t have known about without her (not just Greek salad and baklava). The food was the best we had on our trip and we were stuffed by the end. A wonderful tour that anyone should book who is visiting Athens and wants a mix of history and great food. Highly highly recommend!
From start to finish, everyone at Athens Walks was extremely helpful and informative. Kostas was very helpful in deciding which your to take, and what would be most suitable for our family of all ages (7 - 67). Miss Efi was the absolute best! She was very knowledgeable, being a teacher herself, and very patient with my 7 year old as we climbed the Acropolis. On our food tour, we stopped for loukamades, and souvlaki from local fixtures. Don’t hesitate to take a tour from Athens Walks, and ask for Miss Efi!
For our first time in Athens we booked this tour because it had the tour plus some time in the neighborhoods close by with a local who knew the foods and places to try. Maria, our tour guide, was an extremely knowledgeable host about both the history of the Acropolis and the area. Very friendly with lots of helpful tips about where to shop and not and why. She picked out a great place for coffee and dessert and a great lunch spot too. You learn so much more than trying to read the plaques or a book about the place. Also very good at taking the important family photos.
Perfect day tour! First of all, we were handed cold water right away and were told by the owner that since it was so hot, the tour would be totally customizable and if we couldn’t all (11 people, 4 adults and 7 kids) handle the heat well enough to finish part of the tour, we would be partially refunded. Our tour guide, Maria, was very kind and knowledgeable. She led us around the Acropolis and the town at a pace that was suitable for us and found shade for us to stand in while she spoke. She was very accommodating, and when the kids decided they would rather have ice cream than the second sampling of food (our tour included food samplings), she took them to her favorite ice cream shop and bought them that instead while the adults ate at the designated restaurant. This particular tour was 1/2 day, included food, and was the perfect amount of time, walking, and eating. I highly recommend this company and Maria, although we met some other guides from this company and they seemed just as knowledgeable and friendly as she.
The tour is well thought out and very informative, you will visit the key locations in the Acropolis and a selection of great food outlets afterwards. Very good value, and our guide Anna was excellent.
Rosa did a great job yesterday morning giving my son and me a private tour of the Acropolis site and then to take us around to sample Greek food for lunch. She had an exceptional command of the history and readily got on board with our desire for pictures to document the event. Well worth the cost.
What a great way to see the Acropolis and learn all of the history of the site. Efie was very personable and provided many wonderful insights on the tour! We really enjoyed the food tour of Plaka at the end of the tour and ended up enjoying some wonderful food at some hidden gems!
First, I have to say that working with Kostas was very easy. I started researching tours in every port for the cruise we were on 8 months in advance. I wasn’t sure how many people in our group of 9 would want to join us for the day, but in the end, possibly in part because the price per person was so affordable, the whole crew decided to go on this custom, private tour. We booked transfer service too – a nice big air-conditioned van for the 30min drive both ways. As Kostas and I pieced the tour together via email, part Acropolis and part food tour, I kept trying to find ways to add other elements and spend more of the 10 hours we had in port, but he was right in that by the end of our 4.5 hours, most of us were ready to get back to the ship. I should’ve listened to his suggestion of visiting the museum at the Acropolis as I think a decent number in our group would’ve been interested in seeing it, but when booking, I wasn’t sure how many people were going to be into the historical aspect beyond the obligatory visit to the Acropolis. It was busy and hot, as expected, but our guide Stelios did a great job of keeping us in the shade when possible and telling us the story of the Acropolis and ancient Athens. He was very knowledgeable and passionate about the material, and I found myself wanting to know more about his personal/family story, but he kept everything very professional. He seemed reserved in the beginning, but slowly loosened up and even cracked a few jokes, maybe once he realized that we were not a very reserved group. One minor possible upgrade would be suggestions for good photo spots. I always appreciate when guides offer to get a group shot (even though Stelios was always willing when asked) or suggest optimal points (“If you want that iconic shot, it’s over here” or “Everyone takes this picture, but this is even more interesting.”). A few minutes of free time here and there would’ve been good too. The second part of the tour was tastings, and I appreciated how accommodating they were with dietary restrictions. Stelios really just wanted to make sure everyone was happy. A little heads up would’ve been good in terms of how much food there would be. Many of us had filled up on pita and loukoumades, so the huge wraps were hard to tackle, especially outdoors in the heat. I didn’t do it justice.
We loved our tour with Stelios! What an unexpected treat! Stelio’s was phenomenal. He was very passionate and knowledgeable in Greek history. Not only did he teach us so much about the area but did so in a way to keep all of our attention- even our our two teen daughters in 90 degree humid heat. The food was delish! We highly recommend this tour, especially if you’re lucky enough to get Stelio’s as your guide!
Yiota was an excellent guide, very knowledgeable and informative. Food tour was delicious, and included items that we would not normally have tried. Highly recommend!
We were very happy with our tour guide, Demetrius. He was knowledgeable, fun, easy to talk with, and willing to answer all of our questions. We highly recommend this tour!
Rosa did a wonderful job of educating us on the history of the Acropolis and much, much more. The food, also, was delicious. Highly recommended.
This was a highlight of our visit to Athens. Dorella was a knowledgable and charming guide and the food was delicious! We visited restaurants, coffee shop, deli, central market and more! We saw many places we would not have gone to except for this tour with our delightful local guide.
Our tour guide Rosa was a teacher who enjoys discussing Greek history. Exploring the Acropolis with a guide is informative especially if you are somewhat versed in Greek history and mythology. We weren’t but the tour was still worthwhile and we were able to better appreciate what we were seeing. The food portion was terrific and we tasted spanikopita and gyros at authentic restaurants. We went back to both during our stay in Athens and weren’t disappointed. The tastings were in the last hour or so of the tour, so have a light breakfast before.
Our tour was amazing! Our guide was extremely friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about the city and the Acropolis. We loved every minute of the tour and having a private tour was extra special for our honeymoon. The food tour portion in Plaka was also fantastic. We were a bit stuffed because we didn't know that we'd get to try such large portions of so many items, but all the food was definitely worth it. I also fell in love with Greek coffee! So delicious. We would highly recommend this company and tour.

Our tour guide was amazing! She was so friendly and knowledgeable! She added a personal touch to our tour and we got to experience so much more than if we'd wandered alone!

I did a great private walking tour of the Acropolis and Plaka area with Mariza this past weekend - I haven't done the food tasting tour but would love to when I come back. I would highly recommend this tour. Mariza was a great guide - incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and a provided a fantastic welcome to Athens, including the city and its history. Mariza made every effort to make sure the tour was exactly as I wanted it, although I was happy to follow her lead and suggestions which turned out to be spot on. We had a fascinating walk through Plaka and I got to see a number of things that I undoubtedly would have missed on my own. In addition, throughout the tour Mariza offered fascinating insights into the things we saw, the history, current day issues, etc. The tour is very well organised and covers the main, most significant aspects and is perfect if you want to see/cover the main historic areas in 4-5 hours. After Plaka we continued up the Acropolis and I had a great time exploring and learning the history from Mariza. The windy, rainy weather was just an afterthought given how interesting the tour was. And Mariza came prepared - she even brought a rain poncho/jacket for me and was very concerned the whole time to make sure I wasn't too wet, cold, etc. It was very nice to have such a thoughtful, expert guide. After a good amount of time on the Acropolis we came down and surveyed a number of the other most significant ancient sites, some from a distance and some as we walked down. The tour really gives a great sense of the city and the highlights, and definitely is a good launching pad if you have some extra time to explore some of the other ancient sites further afterwards. We then continued into the Acropolis Museum and Mariza provided a fascinating, insightful tour and commentary throughout. She was very engaging and kept me fully interested the whole time. Although the tour lasted several hours, the time flew by and I was sorry when it was over. I never would have experienced the museum so fully without Mariza's tour. I highly recommend this tour to anyone coming to Athens looking for an expert, insightful tour with a personal touch. It is definitely great value for money if you are looking for a private tour. I look forward to my next trip to Athens and will definitely look to book another tour with Athens Walks.

This was a highlight of our trip to Athens and furthermore to Greece. We are all about having an authentic experience, something that doesn't feel touristy but rather a more local experience and that is exactly what Marina gave us! It was a private tour with just us 2 and she is full of an immense amount of knowledge about the Acropolis, the city and she took us to her local spots for the food tour portion so we got a completely authentic experience. She was also so kind and patient, taking pictures of us and knew all the good spots to do so. I can't recommend this tour enough! If we go back we will specifically look up other tours she does as she was that amazing! Thank you Marina- we'll be back!

Dr. Rainer Sassmann.
June 20 Athens: we arrive in Piraeus at 8.00 and find our driver Dimitri waiting for us, very kind. Booked by email in February, all arranged with Athens walk (Piraeus center 70€ round trip) we meet with our guide Giorgio, archaeologist and graduate in art history, speaks perfectly in Italian. He takes us to the Acropolis where he illustrates the monuments with lots of historical details ancient and modern. Giorgio is a fantastic guide, ironic and witty, a well of information, there also discovers Greek aromatic plants and answers all our curiosities. After the Acropolis he takes us through the streets of Athens to the plaka and parliament to see the changing of the guard. We eat at Barbadimos in the square sintagma. we eat very well and good price. very nice and friendly waiters.
