I not only saw parts of Athens that I would not have known to visit, but the tour guide inspired me to be more creative and to consider the elements that produce a good photograph. I learned a lot. I highly recommend this tour

Itinerary
The old neighbourhoods around Acropolis Enjoy an immersive photo tour at the neighbourhoods around Acropolis. During your strollings to the quaint alleys of Plaka and further, all the vantage shooting points will be revealed to you through an elaborate route that doesn't miss the secret gems of each neighbourhood. Upon your meeting with the photographer you receive some preliminary instructions according to your skill levels Route: A photo tour around the Acropolis; Plaka, Thiseio and Dionysiou Areopagitou street. Our photo walk starts through the historical area of Plaka where you learn how to navigate your surroundings, work with light, colour, background, influences and the challenges of the place; Neoclassical mansions and red-tiled roofs, small winding alleys, picturesque stairs, balconies blooming with bougainvillaea, and an intriguing mosaic of people. The whitewashed houses in the more relaxed Anafyotika and its island setting is one of the not-to-be-missed photo spots in the area. Reaching the more modern Thiseio and the pedestrianised Dionysiou Areopagitou street admiring the houses and the Acropolis standing majestically above you, you would have trained your eye to capture images that make an impact! Some spectacular views to the grandeur of the Parthenon await to be photographed from the opossite to Acropolis, Philopappos hill. The spot is ideal for you to learn how to take stronger landscape shots using more efficiently your camera's settings. An alternative route is Down Town with the neighbourhoods of Psiri and Keramikos. Document the bustling and arty life in Psiri and the bohemian one of the nearby Keramikos. Under the guidance of the pro you will be taught more than just taking pictures, how to expand your ability to choose compelling subjects and portray them in more meaningful ways. A camera provides the perfect excuse to go beyond simply what can be seen, to discover the authentic culture of each place. Old fashioned artisans workshops, hidden alleys, counter culture and alternative spaces, street, bars and traditional tavernas, coexist in harmony, creating a fascinating atmosphere waiting you to tell their stories through your pictures. During your strolls to the vibarnt alleys you will learn how to improve your photographs of people and capture a person's true character. Both areas offer you a wide array of street photography opportunities, a fascinating atmopshere and consist some of the most interesting faces of the non-classical Athens!

My guide showed me things about my camera I didn't know and took me to some off the path great photo spots,he spoke English very well which was great!
My photo tour of Athens with Socrates was a highlight of my trip to Greece! As a photographer I love capturing images of the places and people I encounter while abroad. Like Socrates, I have a particular interest in documentary photography and loved having the opportunity to hear his thoughts and advice regarding how I could capture such candid images. He took me to colorful and interesting parts of the city that reflected my interests which I had shared with him. It was a very unique, personalized, and encouraging experience. I felt so lucky to get to take photographs alongside such an experienced and talented photographer. He was very respectful and worked hard to meet my requests. I am very happy with the results and brought home many images from my tour I am excited to share with others! Thank you Socrates!
A unique experience. The photographer made the tour feel personal & creative. I got some new insights how to improve my photography skills.
It was an important workshop, and one thing is certain—I gained more inspiration than I expected regarding urban photography. Since I already had some experience with photography, we didn’t waste time on technical details and went straight to the part about perceiving the urban landscape and the subjects I wanted to photograph. A big thank you to Sokrates!
Walking around the city of Athens with an experienced, friendly, creative photographer like Joanna was definitely a highlight of our visit to Athens! We would highly recommend this tour. It exceeded our expectations and we have memories that will last a lifetime.
Socrates Baltagiannis, freelance photojournalist, was our guide/instructor for this photo walk. He led us through the historic neighborhoods below the Acropolis. Before our arrival,Socrates asked about my specific interests, experience levels and any specific areas of instruction in which I was interested. He was extremely helpful, patient and knowledgeable. I asked for help with composition and exposure, especially in architectural and landscape photography. He offered great suggestions and advice that helped me improve my skills. In addition to the photography aspects of our tour, we had interesting conversations about a wide range of topics. His English skills are excellent and I know he also speaks other languages. I highly recommend this experience!
Wonderful Streetphotography Workshop with Socrates Baltagiannis, exploring Athens a bit aside from the usual tourist areas. Socrates is a great photographer, a very nice person and a great teacher. I had a lot of fun and got some great photos from this morning!
Had an amazing day with Socrates. Not only did he adjust my photography technique to get the best street photography shots, but, even more, shared some of his favorite 'people places' to experience Athens from a local's perspective. His professional pointers on colors, angles, people and framing are priceless. Was able to continue shooting the rest of the day. And having him explain more history and culture was bonus. Would totally recommend!
We had the most fantastic trip ever. Our photo Socrates was the best and we never would have seen Greece like we did without him. I highly recommend this tour and Socrates. This was the best vacation we have ever taken. BRAVO !!!!
A "local" photographer guide is essential in every photography tour- they know some more other tidbits not found in books. The reason why we went with this tour. Socrates , our guide got us into the "other" nooks and crannies of Athens- areas we would have not gone into otherwise. Socrates is very accommodating, knowledgeable, and protective- shooing potential local "accosters". We truly appreciated your time Socrates! Although we did not get to all the "other" interesting photo-worthy sites during the tour we got more practical information on how to get there on our own. Thank you- Tom (& Adora tagging along)
We could not have been more pleased with our 9 day photographer tour that included Athens, and the islands of Mykonos, Delos, and Tinos. Maria’s warm, thoughtful design and coordination of agenda and logistics, combined with the extraordinary skill and knowledge of photographer Nikos Kokkas made for unforgettable experience for my wife Sally and myself. The information and insights into the history, culture and food as we traveled about provided a richness that impacted every interaction. Under Nikos’s tutelage, our photographer’s eye evolved by the day and our understanding of what makes a “great picture” grew exponentially. We could not imagine a better introduction to the country of Greece and are grateful for the time we spend together. Yamas Maria & Nikos…. Jonathan Golding Gloucester, Massachusetts
It was interesting getting the chance to explore the downtown area from a different perspective and have the time to further my photography skills with a local photographer. It was well worth the time to do this tour.
A great way to see less well known parts of Athens. Photographer guide was fantastic, very knowledgeable and offered lots of technical information and guidance.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, then perhaps the advice Nikos gave to me on our journey through Athens will be worth a thousand better photos. Little did I know my guide would arrive, not only a humbling stack of credentials, but also a warm heart, insight to my particular areas for improvement, and the talent of deep articulation to help me. Nikos gave me many things in our 4 hours, not the least of which was his honesty. I was thrilled to come away with a few good photographs, but by far the most valuable part of my trip was the wisdom of my guide. I would happily pay 10-20 times the price for this experience. Thank you @nikoskokkas for making me a better photographer and helping me connect a little to your beautiful city. Rob Adams @2shadowed
This photo tour was amazing! We're two photography amateurs always searching for off-the-beaten-path places to capture and our guide helped us do exactly that in Athens. After a few hours with this talented guide, we learned so much about photography and how to truly capture the bustle of a cosmopolitan city like Athens. He took us to so many places we definitely wouldn't have found on our own. We're very happy we came across this tour with someone so experienced. We had the most enjoyable time with him. We'll definitely do this again next time we're in Athens!
Athens September 2020 I was pretty surprised and excited by my photo tour in Athens with Menelaos. I was thinking about taking some pictures of the city while walking around in a break from a short business trip in Athens, when I decided to do it next to a pro. It turned out to be one of a kind experience. Menelaos really helped me broaden my perception in photography and shared a lot of good tips and techniques in just a few hours photo tour. Plus? I discovered places that I wouldn’t have found by myself. Such good luck to come across these tours and pros!
Greece Photo Workshops linked me up with Menelaos for a very memorable, enjoyable and insightful few hours exploring photography in Athens. The tour was felt adapted to my interests (ie. not a cut and paste experience) and it was very rewarding to spend time talking and practicing photography with such an impressive professional photo-journalist. I learnt a lot in just a few hours and came away from the experience with a new enthusiasm and new ideas about how to develop and improve my photography in the future. Menelaos is great company too and really provided a highlight to my first visit to Athens. I would highly recommend the tour, especially if you are looking to take your photography to a new level.
My daughter and I had an amazing experience on our Athens photo tour with Nikos. He has an immense knowledge about photography and all aspects of it. My teenage daughter learned so much and had a blast doing it! She has a strong interest in street photography (which Nikos is an expert in) and really helped her come out of her shell. We’re are so impressed with our photos and can’t wait to share them with our friends and family back home! I highly recommend this experience.
A 1 on 1 private session in the streets of Athens. Photographer was knowledgeable, personable and accommodating
Athens can be a challenging city, but Menelaos was the perfect photography guide and companion. As a somewhat experienced analogue photographer I booked a private tour and was very pleasantly surprised. The refinement of my technical skills--my achilles heel--was very welcome and extremely useful. Confidence way up. Thanks, Menelaos. Highly recommended.
Well organised workshop.I highly recommend the private workshop.. Nikos is so talented and Maria is a great host.
