Small interactive museum. It's all about the life of Maria Callas. There's pictures and videos and audio with her voice. There's some personal items from Maria that are now part of the museum. The café is cute, I grabbed a coffee and a muffin on my way out. Worth the visit!
Turning Callas into a commodity is the trend. This includes the Benaki exhibit of the ludicrous Jolie film costumes. What does her art have to do with mugs and t-shirts?
From the first steps on the white Carrara marble staircase, the black elegant elevator and the red soft carpet we knew that it would be something extraordinary. We were not disappointed!
Great small museum featuring this classic artist known for her opera repertoire. Has great interactive, clips of her performances, well done. There’s historic review of her career and family life. Interviews with coach, and the men in her life. Small cafe and shop in structure too.
What a wonderful Tribute to Opera Diva, Maria Callas. Small but very Comprehensive and Sympathetic arrangement of Maria Callas' Life. Some rooms made you imagine you were at a Performance by Maria Callas. Very moving. Lovely Cafe and also gift shop on the Ground Floor.
I found out that there's a museum of Maria Callas by running into it by walking in Monastiraki area. It takes maximum an hour to do a tour and it was super easy to buy a ticket inside (10 euros), no waiting in the lines, just bougth it on the spot and started my tour immediately - the staff is super nice! 👌 It is a very personal and interesting setting, where you can get a true feeling of who Maria was as a person and as an artist. I loved that the setting includes many multimedia part - a lot of video, audio material which makes it dynamic. You can listen to her singing her most famous parts and operas, you can listen to her interviews, read about her, see her personal things like clothes and style, and learn about her life chronologically placed...many interactive components and all well selected and shown. I didn't know much about her life, and for me this visit was a true learning experience.
Just wonderful. Like she was there in real person. Very moving too. Glad I did it today. the second floor is the best. the floor with the details of her life were very well displayed.
I didn’t know that much about opera or Maria Callas until I stumbled upon this compact, well thought out, museum near Syntagma in Central Athens. Admission is only 10 Euros and I was told to start at the third floor with a gorgeous view of the Parthenon and work my way down. One national treasure leads to another. The museum details the story of Maria Callas’ life and contributions to theater and the opera world. There are two rooms where you just can sit and be surrounded by the singing of her amazing three octave range voice. I find it incredible that a human can produce such an angelic sound for a prolonged period of time (an hour and ten minutes is your average opera length). There are displays of her costumes, letters she wrote and important people in her life, including Onassis. The irony and sadness of these incredibly talented people is that their gifts to the world come at a tremendous personal cost. Professionally she was a star, but her personal life was often a bit messy. It struck me that she was very unhappy in her relationships and her life. Maybe the happiest times for her was when she was on stage blasting out an opera or teaching and passing along her expertise to others. There is a nice gift shop and cafe on the first floor.
It's a must visit museum in Athens, especially for those who do not know about opera or Maria Callas, so it will be also an educational visit. The best thing about this museum is that it's interactive, you can listen to her recordings, read some of her notes, admire her clothes. The exposition is really impressive. You just come out of the museum with the feeling that she was an exceptional person.
It is a great museum experience for all ages!!! The second floor is a surprise as we become part of the operas in which Maria Callas performed! On the first floor we learn about her life through personal items and memorabilia of Maria Callas. It's a small museum in the center of Athens with a great view to Acropolis! You must also visit the shop and the cafe and ask for the Maria Callas' drink!!
Amazing experience. Really well made. Attention to detail. I will definitely visit again soon. It’s worth paying a visit for sure.
Visiting the Maria Callas museum is a memorable experience that no fan of the great singer should miss. It's a young museum that is still growing and it will be very interesting to see how it evolves. I will definitely visit again.
Very nice and engaging museum with the story of Maria Callas and many rooms in which to listen to her beautiful voice. Highly recommended! There are also letters written to Maria Callas, her clothes, various videos in which to listen to her performances.
The museum is inside a beautiful palace in the center of Athens The visit starts from the third floor where there is a beautiful terrace overlooking the Parthenon; the second floor is immersive audio , you enter themed rooms dedicated to his interpretations and his voice is the protagonist the first floor is the one dedicated to his life, family, loves. Very nice unmissable and exciting
My visit to the Maria Callas Museum was a touching experience, which traveled me through the unique course of the great diva of opera. The twists of her life are presented through photographs, personal objects and impressive costumes she wore in her performances. The musical background created an atmosphere of deep emotion, although the darkness of the first hall seemed somewhat frightening to me at first. Nevertheless, the museum reflects with respect and sensitivity the greatness and human side of Kalla.
A dive into the world of the Divine. Structured on 4 levels, it allows visitors to delve into lesser-known aspects of this grandiose artist’s private life and fully grasp the multiple facets of her troubled life. Interesting and exciting.
