An excellent day for our family of 4 adults and 4 children ranging in age from 1 to 10. We were able to modify our tour to suit the needs of the family and spend the time we wanted for each of the major sights. Highly recommended and the second time we have used the tour company. We also used them for transport from the airport and to the port. Very responsive to our emails from Australia. Our tickets to the Acropolis were also organised through them so less to organise ourselves.

Itinerary
At Acropolis where you will see the Parthenon, the temple on the top of the sacred rock devoted to Goddess Athena, the Goddess of wisdom, the Propylaea, the entrance to the sacred rock, the Temple of Wingless Victory which was devoted to Goddess Athena-Nike, the Erechtheum, the most sacred and mythical of all the temples of Athens with its famous Caryatides (female featured statues), the 5000-seat Odeon of Herodes Atticus which was carved into the rock and is still used for music festivals, the 3000-seat theater of Dionysus where the Athenians listened to the immortal works of Sophocles, Aeschylus, Euripides and Aristophanes.
The Temple of Olympian Zeus is a former colossal temple at the center of Athens. It was dedicated to "Olympian" Zeus, a name originating from his position as head of the Olympian gods. Construction began in the 6th century BC during the rule of the Athenian tyrants, who envisaged building the greatest temple in the ancient world, but it was not completed until the reign of the Roman Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century AD. During the Roman period the temple, which included 104 colossal columns, was renowned as the largest temple in Greece and housed one of the largest cult statues in the ancient world. The temple's glory was short-lived, as it fell into disuse after being pillaged during a barbarian invasion in 267 AD, just about a century after its completion. It was probably never repaired and was reduced to ruins thereafter. In the centuries after the fall of the Roman Empire, it was extensively quarried for building materials to supply building projects elsewhere in the city.
The Panathenaic Stadium or Kallimarmaro "beautiful marble" is a multi-purpose stadium in Athens, Greece. It's of the main historic attractions of Athens and it is the only stadium in the world built entirely of marble. A stadium was built on the site of a simple racecourse by the Athenian statesman Lycurgus at 330 BC, primarily for the Panathenaic Games. It was rebuilt in marble by Herodes Atticus, an Athenian Roman senator, by 144 AD and had a capacity of 50,000 seats. After the rise of Christianity in the 4th century it was largely abandoned. The stadium was excavated in 1869 and after being refurbished, it hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the first modern Olympics in 1896 and was the venue for 4 of the 9 contested sports. It was used for various purposes in the 20th century and was once again used as an Olympic venue in 2004. It is the finishing point for the annual Athens Classic Marathon. It is also the last venue in Greece from where the Olympic flame handover ceremony to the host nation takes place.
The Hellenic Parliament is the parliament of Greece, located in the Old Royal Palace, overlooking Syntagma Square in Athens. The Parliament is the supreme democratic institution that represents the citizens through an elected body of Members of Parliament.
The Presidential Guard is a ceremonial infantry unit that guards the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Presidential Mansion in Athens, Greece. The unit is distinguished as the last unit of Evzones in the Hellenic Army, and is closely associated with the traditional Evzone's uniform, which evolved from the clothes worn by the Greeks in the Greek War of Independence. The most visible item of this uniform is the fustanella, a kilt-like garment.
Departing Athens, you will have the potentiality to absorb the southern suburbs of Athens, such as Old Faliron, Alimos and Glyfada. It is an undeniable fact that these areas are considered to be the most up-scaled ones of Attica. Moreover, the traveler is given the opportunity to observe coastline of Attica full of private and public marines, shops and cafes.
A short stop for pictures will be made at Vouliagmeni Lake. The lagoon formed about 2,000 years ago. It was once a large cavern that collapsed following an earthquake. The outline of the collapsed cavern roof can be clearly discerned from a distance. The lake has quite unique environmental conditions: it is supplied with warm seawater (28-35ºCelsius) via an underground channel spreading through a network of flooded caves, so its temperature never drops below 18 °C (usually ranges around 21-24 °C), whereas a freshwater spring reduces its salinity to brackish levels (14.5-18 psu). Because of its constant warm water temperature and its rich content in hydrogen sulphide, the lake functions as a spa since the end of the 19th century.
Varkiza is a picturesque sea-side village in the middle of the way to Cape Sounion. The area is very popular to Athenians for short excursions due to its beaches, shops and clubs.
The Temple of Poseidon is built on top of the hill, exactly at the meeting point of the Saronic Sea with the Aegean Sea. The temple was dedicated to God Poseidon, the lord of the Sea and it was there where all the sailors offered a last sacrifice to appease God Poseidon before leaving the safety of the Saronic Golf. According to Greek mythology, the Cape Sounion was the point from which Greek King Aegeus flung himself off the cliff to his death, upon the mistaken belief that his son had died. This ancient tragic tale involves a theme that is still used in modern story-telling today.
On the way back to Athens, the visitor will enjoy the Greek traditional cuisine at a local tavern with a view to the sea.

Absolutely worth it to tour this way. Our driver Kyriakos was very knowledgeable about the history of Greece. He was friendly, courteous and most definitely delivered a wonderful experience! We would highly recommend this company and this driver to anyone.
We took this tour and also another full day tour, both couples, friends, and children, and they were AMAZING!! Kristos was absolutely awesome and was so immensely accommodating, the tour guide was the sweetest and so informative. He took us to the most amazing restaurants to eat, if we needed something quickly, it was done. I cant give enough accolades for the incredible time he ensured we had. He even made sure all of us ladies had help off the bus, which was also immaculate with plenty of room and he even had car seats ready for the kids & plenty of water. We are only going to use him when we come to Greece, which will be often, and all all of our friends, too. If you dont use this company for all of your tours, youre insane, theres no way theres a better one out there, impossible. Book them IMMEDIATELY for your trip and you will not be disappointed. Do. It.
We signed up for the "Athens Highlights & Temple of Poseidon -- Cape Sounio Full Day Private Tour" July 30, 2025. And it was EXCELLENT! The van was comfortable and air conditioned and roomy. Our Tour Guide Kyriakos was GREAT, very friendly and knowledgeable. With prior arrangements with Hellenic tours Kyriakos bought tickets in advance for our visit to the Acropolis so that we did not have to wait in line. We saw everything we wanted to see on a day tour, learned so much about the history and the great city of Athens and area. Loved the seaside trip and lunch in Cape Sounio. Temple of Poseidon was not crowded so we had time there to enjoy it, and get a coffee at the coffee bar. Highly recommended!
Ioanna was amazing. Very Knowledgeable and Kind. Evan our driver was also knowledgeable and accommodate the trip to our needs. We will highly recommend HP Tours to our friends back in USA.
June 25, 2025- an 8 hrs. tour of Athens with our driver Panos. He was driving an air conditioned Mercedes Benz Sprinter and provided cold bottled water for us whenever we need water. We were told by Frank of Hellenic Private tour to start the tour since Athens will reach close to a 100 degrees Fahrenheit by mid afternoon. We started at 9am. In the morning Panos took us first to all outside sightseeing stops like, Acropolis, Parthenon, Temple of Zeus, the Proplea, the Erechtheum, the theater of Dionysus and other sites. In every stop before we got out of the van Panos gave us a brief history of the place we were visiting with the use of photos from his IPad. Then by 1pm Panos took us to a Greek restaurant. The food was delicious and everyone enjoyed the food. From the restaurant we went to the Modern Acropolis museum. Before returning to our villa Panos continued the city tour of the Panathiniac Olympic Stadium, tomb of unknown soldiers, drive by the academy, national library and drive up Lycabettus hill to enjoy view of Athens. Our whole family was very pleased with the services of Hellenic Private Tours, our driver Panos and all the suggestions of Frank. We happily recommend them to anyone visiting Athens.
It was an experience of a life time. Our tour guide Panos was very gracious and understanding. He gave us water bottles during our entire stay and explained the areas we were exploring very well.He was on time and as we were with young children showed us a lot of grace. Panos was very knowledgeable about the areas we wanted to visit and answered our questions in detail. The tour van was excellent, clean with good air condition.Well kept and maintained. We would highly recommend H.P tours to people who wish to have a wonderful experience in Greece.
A fantastic day. Our guide, Joanna, was knowledgeable and friendly. Our driver, Evan, was efficient, safe, and always went the extra mile. We were escorted to the entrance of the Acropolis and provided clear instructions for meeting up with the van and guide. We had just the right amount of time to see the amazing ruins. Next we took a tour around the city and Joanna provided a great tour. We stopped to see the changing of the guards at the Presidential Residence. Finally, we were driven to Poseidon’s temple and stopped for lunch overlooking the sea. I highly recommend this tour, this tour company, Evan, and Joanna! .
Our guide Tasos was not only incredibly knowledgeable, but also wonderfully attentive, kind, and truly went above and beyond to make sure every moment of our day was special. From the moment the tour began, it was clear we were in the hands of someone who genuinely cared. He was patient and brought so much warmth and personality to the experience. It felt less like a tour and more like exploring with a friend who knows everything there is to know about the place. Thank you Tasos!
We had a wonderful guided tour of various spots in and around Glyfada, culminating in watching the sunset from the Temple of Poseidon! It was a stunning view. Our guide Panos was super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. He tailored the trip according to our preference and took us to several scenic spots for photos. He was also very informative and kind!
Our tour guide Panos(Frank) was the best, very patient and stayed with us for 9 hrs Brought us to a Seafood restaurant with fresh catch of the Day and was so patient with us
The vehicle is great. Restaurants selection was amazing. I suggest you request a driver willing to provide more information during trip. Our was quite. The tour guides were very very good.
We were very pleased with our 2 day private tour which also took us to Delphi. Our driver, Michael, was professional, a gentleman, polite, funny and very informative. The restaurant he chose for us was the best food we had on our entire trip. The sites were amazing! This is a first class company!
This tour was so relaxed and amazing. Jimmy was the best! He took us to a peaceful lunch on the cape right on the water. We hit some many sites in Athens and outside the city center. It was the perfect way to end our trip.
We cannot recommend this tour enough. My wife and I are on our honeymoon and had an absolutely amazing experience with Panos as our driver and Rena as our tour guide. Both were incredibly friendly and very knowledgeable. I have a minor in classics and had so much fun talking about the mythology with Rena as she took us around the sites. If you would like a licensed tour guide like Rena to join you at the sites, make sure to message the operator in advance. It’s an additional 300 euros and worth every cent. The sites are breathtaking and the van is very comfortable - it even has WiFi for the drive out to Cape Sounion. The day ended with a wonderful meal at a favorite of locals right on the Agean Sea. You will not regret booking this.
if there is a six star we would have give. 6 star. Our group 17 of us given the 6 star to our driver Christ and Tour lead. Very accommodating and on time.
We learned a lot on this tour. It was great to get an understanding about all of Attica. The Temple of Poseidon and its history is a fun place to visit. The drive back to Athens is very interesting.
The HP tour team are nothing but exceptional! Their communication is word class and the service provided exceeded expectations! This is a first class company and all their staff are incredible. The Mercedes van for the private tour was immaculate, and more importantly the driver Giannis was so very friendly and added to the day. We also booked 3 private transfers from airport/Piraeus and all were on time and exceptional ! I highly recommend this company !!
Driver and guide Azi was fantastic. Tours and service and lunch great. Highly recommend coastal drive to temple of Poseidon!!
This tour is the best way to see all the great sites in Athens and then in Souino to see the Tample of Poseidon. Pannos was our driver and he was very nice and very informative at every place we stopped. We didn’t hire a professional tour guide so Pannos would basically give us the history of whatever site we were going to next while driving there and for us that was perfect. We still got all the historical information but then were able to go explore it on our own which we loved. Athens is very hot so doing this kind of tour is the best way to see everything. Yes there was still a lot of walking especially at the acropolis but it definitely felt much more doable the way this tour is organized. Also they suggested buying your tickets in advance and thank his we did because the line to get tickets was so long and most of the time slots were all filled up. At the end of our tour, we went to this adorable restaurant that Pannos suggested and it was amazing! Obviously the restaurant cost of whatever you order isn’t part of the tour so you have to pay if you decide to go there but the prices were pretty reasonable. It was a great way to end a long day of lots of walking. Doing this tour we were able to see all the historical sites in Athens and Sounio in 1 day which was amazing. We were incredibly happy we decided to do this tour and highly recommend it!
Do not hesitate to book this company. They are professional and very responsive. We decided to book this private tour vs one from the cruise ship primarily due to price and the limitation of what we would see if we used the cruise tours. We did not have to wait for a large group to see all the sites (those can be over 40 people and a mess). Also be aware, there is a lot of walking/hiking. Make sure to let them know if there are any ADA or precautions because these sites don't all have lifts and arrangements may need to be made. Jimmy, was our guide/driver for this tour. We saw everything we wanted to see and omitted places that were not of interest to us. Traveling with children was also a huge factor in choosing a private tour. Jimmy was professional, prompt, and FULL of information. The van was spacious and clean. He literally had each stop timed to perfection. We called when we were ready to be picked up. We beat the mass crowds at the Acropolis, it was almost as if were one or two steps ahead of the large buses. We were able to watch the changing of the guards, Arch of Hadrian, Zeus's temple, and pretty much all the must see places. They will custom any tour you want. We made the trip to Temple of Poseidon. The drive was beautiful. Kids were able to take a nap as it was around 45 minutes from Athens. Jimmy was open to making any stops along the way if we saw anything that caught our eye. On the way, he was making arrangements for our lunch (preference of food, allergies, requests). My husband had one request for saganaki that was recommended by a friend. Jimmy made sure the restaurant could make it and they delivered. The restaurant was waterfront and definitely a local spot to eat. Food was fresh, delicious, and plentiful. The drive down the coast did take up a good portion of our day, but it was worth it. I would contact them directly and ask for Jimmy. He truly was fantastic, a safe driver, and his Australian accent was fabulous!
This is the best tour company in Greece! “Jimmy Australia” was our guide and he did not disappoint us one bit! He gave us information that was educational but not boring. We had a magnificent lunch right on the Aegean Sea! We will use H.P. Tours whenever we visit Greece again!!
We did 3 full day tours of Athens/Sounion, Delphi and Argolis with HPT. They also arranged our Airport transfers. Everything was well organised, punctual, entertaining and efficient. Our driver Panos was a wealth of knowledge, very helpful and gave good advice on what to see and do. He even selected the best restaurants with tasty and reasonably priced food and drinks for our meals. The private van was well maintained, kept cool and always clean. Panos was very kind and a true gentleman. Frank was also very helpful and prompt in his responses to our enquiries. I would highly recommend HPT to anybody who wants to visit Greece. They reflect the kindness, generosity and hospitality of the Greek people. I am already planning my next trip to Greece with them!
Panos was great! He is very knowledgeable and made sure we had lots of fun. He picked us at airport and provided with as much as he could to make sure we saw all the sites even if our plane was delayed.
Excellent experience. Knowledgeable and pleasant guide (Jimmy), great van and itinerary was well thought out. Highly recommend.
Hellenic tours organized all the sight seeing tours with great guides and the best driver ever, Evan! He drove a bunch of 14 crazy gighly women around without a fuss and drove with great control. All in all a memorable holiday and would love to use Hellenic tours again if we come back!!
Our family (husband, myself and 8yo daughter) just had a great full day tour with Panos around Athens and the Poseidon temple in Sounion. Panos was an excellent driver but also amazing source on Greek history and culture. We learned a lot from him, and he was great with our daughter as well. He went out of his way to show us a few extra things based on our interests (a special pistachio shop and an ice cream place for our daughter, as well as a great coffee place). It was a great way to maximise our short amount of time in Athens and see many places of interest without running around and getting hot and exhausted. We would use this company again and suggest them to others absolutely.
Wonderful tour with Michael who is an exceptional guide—very relaxed, accommodating and knowledgeable. We did the Athens half-day combined the Poseidon/Sounion tour and a customized winery tour. We hope to return to Greece in the future with family, customizing a vacation with HP Tours.
Perfect experience! the driver was so good and friendly and the owner helped us very much. It was a perfect day
Me and my boyfriend had a great time on this tor. Athens was experiencing a heat wave so this was definitely the most comfortable and efficient way to see Athen's sites. The guide was very nice and answered all questions. The van was extremely clean and comfortable!
My husband and I had the most amazing time with our tour guide Jimmy! He was so knowledgeable and fun!
The experience we had with Hellenic Private Tours was amazing. They were aware of sudden influx of people and contacted us the day before to change the itinerary which I truly feel made the experience a lot better. Frank was prompt and the vehicle was beautiful. He was very knowledgeable of city and its amazing history. He was full of fun and entertaining stories that kept our entire group entertained. By the time the tour ended we felt like he was part of the family. We look forward to booking more trip with them the next time we come to Greece.
Perfect communication, perfect drivers, nice and new car. Received nice recommendations for restaurants. Thank you.
Our private full day tour was outstanding and the highlight of our 10 day trip to Greece! Super knowledgeable guide who gave us local insight during our tour and her recommendations helped us make the most out of the rest of our trip. No better way to do Athens and Cape Sounion than in the comfort of a air conditioned luxury van navigating the area with ease. I highly recommend adding on the Cape Sounion part of the trip- it is beautiful and refreshing to get outside of Athens to the spectacular Athenian Riviera.
My girlfriends and I recently had the pleasure of enjoying this tour with Joanna and Kostas. Not only were they amenable to all our of our requests, but they were happy to do it! We visited the Acropolis, ate a fabulousl Greek lunch at a restaurant Joanna suggested, saw the changing of the guards, shopped in the Plakka, drove an hour along the coast and ended our day watching the sunset from the Poseidon Temple ruins...it was a magical day that none of us will ever forget and we can't say enough about the wonderful service they provided to us on the first day of our Grecian vacation. We spent the rest of our vacation on Santorini, but our time in Athens was absolutely magical. Thank you both so much!
This is an overdue review.. hp tours is great very accomodating and efficient customer service. They were always on time and prompt picking us up for the transfers. David was our driver guide for the day tour, nice guy and friendly. We had a great time with David, informative and wr felt comfortable given that we were travelling with a 4yo. Definitely recommend HP tours to anybody looking to book transfers or tours. PS the owner Frank is a nice guy too.
Joanna and Micheal were the best addition to our tours. They took us around Athens, Sounion, and Ancient Corinth. Joanna was a great tour guide explaining the history and current events of where we were visiting. Micheal was great energy, drove us around safely throughout the tours and airport drop off. My husband and I wouldnt have been able to see all we did in 3 days without HP Tours, Joanna and Michael. They really made our time in Athens very enjoyable.
We rarely hire tour companies without full due diligence. This was the first time we picked HP tours solely based on recommendation of a Greek coworker and I can say that HP Tours totally fell in line with what my coworker had told about them. We were picked up by Themis and Ioanna from the airport. They were both friendly, kept our 11 and 9 old kids totally engaged, and most importantly flexible to our needs. Athens was the last leg of our 13 day journey and we didn’t want a very hectic schedule and HP Tours totally accommodated our every request. Ioanna gave an excellent overview of Athens and Greek mythology on our way from airport to Acropolis. We then finished multiple attractions in Athens through the day. Themis and Ioanna took us to this excellent local restaurant where we really enjoyed the food. Later in the evening we drove to Sunion fora tour of Poseidon temple. Along the way we stopped at multiple spots including an ice cream shop along the sea. After the sunset we drove back and we were dropped at the hotel in Athens. Because of Themis and Ioanna we felt like locals the next day in Athens. Overall Frank is always responsive to questions. There was probably never an instance where he didn’t respond with few hours either while planning or during the trip. I highly recommend HP Tours if you were going to visit Athens.
It was our first visit to Greece and we are so happy that we chose HP Tours. These people are total professionals. Every pickup was prompt and their guide and driver were very competent. We specifically enjoyed our time with Kostas who was with us for the 3 days. He is a terrific driver and person. We felt totally secure in his care. Many thanks to Frank and George for their efficient service and prompt communications. For all of you planning to visit Greece, look no further. I checked 5-6 agencies before booking with them. They are totally worth it and highly recommended.
