Nikos was the best guide! We tasted a variety of wonderful foods and he was a wealth of information about the history of Athens and its neighborhoods. He also went out of his way to answer our questions and advise us regarding our continued travels in Greece. We also really enjoyed meeting fellow travelers on his tour. A delightful evening!!

This tour was the history of Greece through its food and culture. Absolutely amazing tour guide (Simos Trasanis) who brought it all to life for us as we wandered through parts of Athens we would never have seen otherwise. The foods at each of the stops were amazing and the stories made the whole experience unforgettable. I would do it again next time I'm in Athens and would recommend for anyone!!

My wife and I spent 5 hours with Simos, from Alternative Athen, enjoying the sights, smells and tastes of a dynamic Athens. We visited 5 different neighborhoods, sampled great food, and were treated to encyclopedic knowledge about the capital of Greece. It was a terrific experience, well worth the price we paid for the tour. Simos was personable, as well as knowledgeable, and made Athens come alive for us. It was a high point in our Athens stay.

We are two couples from United States. We booked this private tour at the last minute and are thrilled that we did. It was an exceptional experience and well worth the money. Our tour guide Simos was exceptional. Extremely knowledgeable and also self-aware. He let us direct the pace and he allowed us to explore our interest based on his recommendations. In Athens, we had a great tour with Elissavet, who took us walking through several neighborhoods, shared cultural and historical info, and hit great food stops. She was easy going, flexible, and so kind to email me later with recipes for some of our favorite foods we had that day, and her recs for restaurants were spot on.

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour with Andreas! It was a small group- only my family of four and another couple- which was a fantastic size. We loved how Andreas gave us a history lesson on the food and culture as we went to each stop. The food was fantastic- I especially enjoyed the olive oil tasting and the “family style” feast at the taverna but every stop was great! We also enjoyed getting to see a little bit of each of the different neighborhoods instead of just the touristy areas. We would highly recommend this tour- but come hungry- you get a lot of food!!

This was such a great way to experience the delicious cuisine with a local. Food was amazing. Andreas, our tour guide, was phenomenal. And the walk was not bad at all. I would absolutely do this again.

Elena was our guide and she was amazing!! We had 4 member of our group who are over 80. On a hot Athens day the walking was probably too much for them. Elena made modifications, was VERY understanding about us being slow and was very kind. The food was delicious. We would definitely recommend, but it was more walking than expected for elderly parents.

This was such an amazing tour. Our tour guide Simos was so sweet, knowledgeable, and the places we toured with him were so good. He gave us the Greek history of each place we visited and explained what we were eating and where it originated from. He also gave us the history of places we were passing by. This tour was definitely worth the money and I’m still full hours later.

It was a great way to start our visit in the decorated and glittering Athens in the days before Christmas. An intimate tour of two women with the charming guide Hlena. We met in the morning in a central location and our first stop was a very sweet, bakery. We passed through different placess and tasted authentic Greek food. We visited the meat market and the amazing fish market. Helena is full of knowledge and attentive to questions and wishes. During the tour we were also exposed to the connection between food & culture and we received many tips for interesting places in Athens that we should visit to complete our culinary and cultura experience of the city. This was a a fantastic tour - Andrea was extremely knowledgeable and showed us a side of Athens that we did not expect to see but feel honoured to have been shown.

Absolutely amazing Andreas was fantastic, we learnt a lot about the Greek culture and food. I recommend this tour. When we started the tour I was very sceptical but as we went along I knew it was the best decision and I'm glad I did go.

This was the second time we did a tour with Andreas (first time was in 2018) and he did a phenomenal job. He is extremely knowledgeable about the area and took us to so many great local places to try different food, some amazing olive oil and honey and gave us a chance to learn about the various neighborhoods. We brought friends with us this time and everyone in the group loved the tour.

We had a private walking tour with Elena to see the city neighborhoods and try samples of Greek food. We enjoyed our day very much. Elena was very knowledgeable about all the neighborhoods and was fun to talk with. She took us to restaurants we would never have discovered on our own and to neighborhoods we would not have found. It was very much worth doing.

Nikos, our guide, was simply fantastic! He welcome us at the meeting point and from that moment we felt that we were part of the history of Athens! In between meaningful bites from bespoke places, neighborhood gems and family owned establishments I cannot think of a better way to eat and drink like a local. I was traveling to Athens on a family trip with my mother, sister, and my partner. To celebrate his birthday, we booked a private version of the City Streets and Great Eats tour. It was incredible! We were lucky enough to have Andreas as our guide. Because it was a private tour and we were staying right in the heart of the Plaka, he met us at our hotel. It could not have been more convenient. We then had five hours of walking, seeing, learning, laughing, eating, and drinking. It was the highlight of our time in Athens. We all learned so much, discovered areas to return to for the rest of the week, and got a feel for the city. Andreas was a kind, gracious, and knowledgeable guide, the best we had in our two weeks in Greece. I absolutely recommend this company, this tour, and of course, our guide Andreas. Thank you!!

This was such a terrific way to both experience the city of Athens and sample a variety of Greek cuisine. I have traveled to Athens before, yet I had never had much of the food we sampled prior to this tour. Our tour guide was local and took us to several spots she has been going to her whole life. Many of the shops would have been difficult to experience just walking around Athens on my own. One of our stops was a neighborhood restaurant "off the beaten path" of the main touristy areas. We got to sample an array of many traditional Greek dishes. Just an amazing experience that I couldn't have had without taking this tour.

Incredible tour! I feel so much more knowledgeable about Athens and her neighborhoods! Our tour guide Mary Kate was so friendly and took us to many historical spots unknown to us. Note: we had one meal during the tour at 3 hours in so I suggest eating before hand. We stopped for a coffee and an olive oil and honey tasting before we sat down to have our traditional home cooked meal. Everything was so tasty!

Lovely tour with such a charming and knowledgable guide, Maria Ekaterina. Gives you an idea of the Greek gastronomic heritage, as well as of their nowdays eating habits. Places visited are well-chosen and worth going back to after the tour.

After an initial issue with findinf our tour guide, everything was superb. Our tour guide, Angelica, was so wonderful. She is so knowledgeable and gave us so much insight into what we were seeing and how things used to be back during that time. On the food portion she selected the most wonderful items for us to try through the out the city. She had so much insight into Athens and it was a priceless experience for my wife & I. If we ever did a tour like this again we would definitely want Angelica - she's amazing. A lot of walking involved but you learn so much. Highly recommended.
