This was the most amazing tour of Athens!! Vicky was such a sweet and knowledgeable guide at the Acropolis/Parthenon. She showed and told us things you could never know without her expertise. Andreas took it from there and drove us all the way to the beaches and Poseidon’s temple. He was very knowledgeable, friendly, and professional.

Our meeting spot provides an ideal perspective from which to view the surrounding wall of the Acropolis built by the earlier Mycenean civilisation and to provide you with an introduction to the History of the Acropolis, its importance and role in the life of ancient Greece, and an overview of the temples & amazing monuments you are about to see. VEHICLE OPTION: If choosing this option your driver will be at your Cruise ship disembarkation point, Hotel Reception or other Athens Address (please provide this after booking)
THE ACROPOLIS AND ALL ITS TEMPLES AND MONUMENTS. Our day starts with the Acropolis, focus of life in Ancient Athens & surrounded by its amazing cyclopean' wall, ' built by the Myceneans thousands of years ago. The Acropolis is home to the Parthenon, but also many other amazing monuments. You will first enter through the giant ‘Propylaia’ behind which once stood a gold encrusted statue of the Goddess Athena. You will also see the Temple of Athena Nike (or 'Viktory') from 420 BC before other important sites such as the mythical Erechtheion, unique in its construction with its iconic statues of the Caryatids, and the World’s oldest Theatre of Dionysus from the 6th Century BC, which would have seen the very first performances of ancient plays by Sophocles and Euripides among others. The impressive & fully renovated Roman theater, Herodius Atticus, completed in AD 161, also in the site, was dedicated to the wife of a rich benefactor and still hosts a vibrant public summer program.
THE PARTHENON. Considered widely as a masterpiece of science, engineering and culture, the Parthenon was dedicated to the goddess Athena and would have originally housed her impressive statue. Its decorative sculptures are considered some of the high points of classical Greek art, some of which can be seen in the nearby Museum.
ACROPOLIS MUSEUM. A state of the Art Museum carfully built over excavations that revealed historical layers from Roman houses to byzantine churches. Passing the Museum, your guide will pass by these remains which brings to life the history literally beneath your feet during the tour
TEMPLE OF OLYMPIAN ZEUS. This Colossal temple at the center of Athens was dedicated to the God Zeus, head of the Olympian gods. Construction began in the 6th century BC and the temple was home to a richly adorned statue, one of the seven wonders of the Ancient World.
ARCH OF HADRIAN. Classic Triumphal Arch built by the Ancient Athenians for the Roman Emperor Hadrian & seen together with the Temple of Zeus in the same location
THE PANATHENAIC STADIUM. Also called 'Kallimarmaro' stadium is one of the highlights of Athens where the classic Marathon ends & the only stadium in the world built entirely of marble
ZAPPION HALL. This iconic landmark site in the National Gardens and was originally built as the very first Olympic Village at the start of the Modern Olympic Games. It has a fascinating history throuth the development of modern Athens & also once served as a tram hub in the 19th century.
NATIONAL GARDENS OF ATHENS. Originally laid out as a Royal Gardens in the 19th century this green and shady oasis connects many of the citys highlights and inside its meandering paths are many small delights from fountains, libraries, ancient ruins and even a zoo.
CHANGING OF THE GUARDS & TOMB OF THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER. Guarded by the impressive evzones, you can take photos with them (one at a time) and if the tour happens to hit this spot on the hour, then you will also see the impressive changeover ceremony.
GREEK PARLIAMENT. Center of Government and once a Royal Palace with importance in the recent history of modern Greece and dominating the spot above the main square of Athens.
SYNTAGMA SQUARE. Main square of Athens housing the Hellenic Parliament building & focus of much of Athenian life & Politics. We had an amazing all day tour to the Acropolis and Temple of Posideon with private tour guides and lunch. It was an amazing day! Our driver Petros took us to a couple other areas and even had us stop to grab a coffee before our long drive out to the Temple. Great information, easy to work with, lunch was so good and fresh. 10/10 recommend!! Hot tip : have them pre purchase your tickets, it made the whole day flow much easier
It was an exceptional day. Andreas our driver was knowledgeable, accommodating, and made the trip extremely pleasant. The car was first class, and the trip itself was extremely informative. It was a great experience. We would certainly recommend it if you r=are traveling to Greece.
Alex our driver and guide was fantastic, super helpful and very attentive. He met us at the cruise port right on time, answered all questions, even the silly ones and was so eager to share his knowledge of Athens, the sights and history. We saw so many sights, beat the bulk of the lines at the Acropolis and Acropolis Museum and then had a lovely and super tasty lunch at a little coastal restaurant near Poseidon's Temple. If you want to make the most of a day in Athens, this tour will make that happen.
We had one full day to see all the important sites in Athens and this was the way to go! Andreas was professional, interesting, educated, and we got a real sense of day to day life in Athens, not to mention a good historical perspective. He drove safely in a beautiful comfortable car, stopped for lunch at a place he spent his youth near, and was prompt and responsive to any other questions or times we wanted to stop for a viewpoint. I misunderstood the quality and dollar amount "stipend" that lunch included, I would have tried more things on the menu. Also it appeared that this was a place that a bus tour could and did stop, and we would have appreciated and paid for something more private and upscale. Nevertheless, it was a great sunny day and wonderful way to see Athens. Good communication before the excursion also, which always helps. Would recommend!
Alex was an excellent guide and driver for our day in Athens. He was courteous, knowledgeable and made our experience in Athens memorable.
Alex was a fun and knowledgeable guide. I am so glad we booked this tour. We learned and saw so much.
Pedros was one of the nest tourguides we have ever had. We saw a great deal. He was personable, knowledgeble, a a joyto spend a day with
This was a great way to see Athens, and our driver, Alex was very friendly and knowledgeable. He gave us great history before each stop. Betty was the private guide at the Acropolis and she was fantastic!! But the drive to Sounion was too much. 4.5 hours extra in the car just to see Poseidon didn’t seem necessary, after doing it. That’s no one’s fault. , but it was a lot of boring time driving home with nothing to see.
Great way to see Athens highlights in a day. Alex was our driver and provided great history and facts as we approached each site. Betty was our private guide at the Acropolis and Museum, and was also incredibly knowledgeable, had wonderful graphics with her and kept us moving around the crowds. I highly recommend going first thing in the morning to avoid the larger cruise ship crowds, if you’re able (we had a 7:30am pickup for the 8am opening and it was perfect). We enjoyed the changing of the guard and other stops around Athens, the headed down the coast for lunch in Sounion and visiting the Temple of Poseidon. It was stunning! Just be prepared for 4+ hours in the car, round trip, if you add this on. It was a gorgeous day for it though.
Andreus was very knowledgeable and we were so thankful we started with the Temple of Poseidon and did the Acropolis last. He truly knows Athens and it made for a great day!
Excellent sights and tour guide was knowledgeable, fun, informative and absolutely made the day very enjoyable for all
From our driver to Lisa our private guide, the day was perfectly paced and a wealth of information! Perfect private tour! Company was responsive to emails and answered all questions!
Great experience. Very personalized. The guide was very knowledgeable. He was able to flex the schedule to avoid the crowds.
Petros was the absolute best guide. My husband is an architect and Athens has been his dream trip. We celebrated our 25th anniversary and Petros was able to somehow squeeze everything into one day without us feeling rushed. He recommended the best lunch for us and it ended up being our favorite meal of the entire trip. We can’t wait to come back again someday and we will definitely be back asking for Petros to guide us around.
This was a wonderful tour! Our favorite of our entire trip! Very friendly and knowledgeable guides. Thank you!!
Wonderful experience. Above and beyond our expectations. Highly recommend this experience to view Athens with limited time. Our guide made this a memorable experience and answered all our questions and beyond.
Alex our guide was very knowledgeable and informative. We saw a lot in one day but were never rushed.
We thoroughly enjoyed this tour of Athens! Our driver and tour guide, Petros, was well-informed not only on every sight, but also gave us substantial background of Greek history and historical figures. Our lunch spot by the water was one of our favorite meals of the trip. We learned so much on this day!
We had a great experience on our private tour of Athens. Having a dedicated guide really elevated the visit. Their insights added a lot of context during our time at the museum and the archaeological sites. The Parthenon is absolutely a must-see when in Greece, and it was great to explore it with someone who could explain the history in depth. Pickup and drop-off were smooth and well-organized, which made the day easy and enjoyable. Adding Cape Sounion to the itinerary is a must! The coastal drive is stunning, and seeing the Temple of Poseidon at sunset was a real highlight. A well-paced and informative day overall.
Driver Vesilios and guide, Eva were amazing. 5 star tour. Had the best day seeing all of the sites in Athens. Would highly recommend this tour. My parents are on a trip with my 14 year old and said this is one of the best experiences they have ever had.
Andreas was an incredible guide. We saw everything we expected to see and more. He was very accommodating to our needs, stopping for a to-go lunch which we ate in the car on the way to Sounion , to taking us up to a taxi/shared ride drop off point to make the assent to the Acropolis easier. We stayed in touch during our tours of various sites on WhatsApp and let him know when we were ready to be picked up. Simply outstanding service! I highly recommend him.
Cape Sounion was beautiful! Loved the gorgeous ocean views. Our driver Andreas was on time and knowledgeable. Loved the Acropolis! Athens was a lot of fun.
I booked this tour as a part of my husband's birthday trip to Greece. Our guide and driver was friendly and we always felt safe. After picking us up from our hotel, we started at the Acropolis. Next, we went to Hadrian's Gate, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Panthenaic Stadium, and the Governor's Mansion. We saw the Changing of the Guards ceremony there as it was less busy. Then, we traveled to the Temple of Poseidon. The views are incredible and I recommend you add this portion to the tour. We stopped to eat on the way back to Athens. We ended the tour at the Acropolis Museum. We said farewell as this point as I knew my husband would want to spend a long time at the museum. It was a great overview of the sights and we are so happy we took this tour.
Our guide and driver Andreas was delightful, so knowledgeable and enthusiastic to share the very best of Athens. He summarized and organized Greek history in useful chunks, giving us a solid foundation for the other activities of our trip. We saw so much, learned so much - with so much fun. Well worth the time and cost. Thank you Andreas and Biator.
Ellis our driver was excellent! Very knowledgeable and interesting! We loved the experience…………………..
We had a wonderful time on our tour (with two teenagers 13 and 16). Petros was a fantastic guide. He was a walking guidebook and we also had an opportunity to chat about every day life in Greece. We never felt rushed at any of the sites and had our best day in Athens.
A wonderful day spent with a knowledgeable friendly guide. Thank you, Andreas for sharing your love of Athens and its amazing history. We saw so much and appreciated every minute of it. Highly recommend.
Andreas showed us a great time. Safe driver. Had our tickets ready and escorted us to a great restaurant. Long but productive day. Saw all the sights and got great photos. Never rushed at all.
Andreas showed us a great time. Safe driver and had an efficient route to get us as many stops as possible. Got lots of good photos and he had our tickets ready and waiting
We were unable to complete this tour with Viator. For some reason, we had registered with another Viator provider and I did not realize we had two reservations. They were both made under Viator and I thought they were the same. I found this to be very confusing and we could not take two separate tours at the same time. I believe your company should have been able to see there were two reservations almost at the same time and could have contacted us. The trip was wonderful and our driver George who gave us the essential Athens tour was amazing, knowledgeable and fun. Beautiful experience. Sincerely, Lynn Sale
The knowledge and history imparted by our driver Andreas were fantastic. However, we felt that for the price paid, we spent an inordinate amount of time driving and guide should have accompanied us throughout sites.
We were had the opportunity to spend a day which was well planned and included all of the necessary stops in Athens and Sounion. Our driver was very knowledgeable and was well versed in every aspect of the places we visited. We did not feel rushed at any stop nor were we taken to any place that wasn't of interest. Our driver was very friendly, spoke good English and was helpful in every aspect. Great Job!
Our guide, Andreas, was phenomenal! He knew his way around and got us to key locations in the best order to beat crowds. He was knowledgeable and personable and customized our tour to match interests of our group. I highly recommended this tour to anyone who has a day in Athens!
Excellent tour that takes you to all of the important places around Athens. Andreas was a fantastic guide - very knowledgeable about the city and it’s history, in addition to being super friendly. I would recommend this tour to anyone who has just 1 or 2 days to see as much of Athens and surrounding areas as possible.
If you want to do Athens in one day, this is your best bet. Pedro was friendly, funny, organized, accommodating, clear on the why, and provided just enough details for us to navigate and understand each site and yet could visit at our own pace. The drive down to Cape Sounion was breathtaking. Highly recommend it!
Our driver was the best!!! Very informative, professional and friendly! We highly recommend and request our driver! Saw so much and had a great time!!
Andreas was awesome for the day taking us all around all the sites and trying to miss some of the larger crowds. We hit most of the sites and he showed us some other things around Athens after we had enough walking for the day. He recommended a fabulous baklava place that he personally enjoyed and it was great.
Our tour guide was wonderful. He was knowledgeable and his English was good. He answered all our questions and took his time with us.
Wonderful time today visiting sites with Petro. He was so knowledgeable explaining the sites and conversing with us about the culture and local way of life. He took great care of us and made sure we enjoyed everything all day long. Very courteous and prompt. If we toured again would absolutely call on him.
I have mobility issues and I loved how I was treated by the workers during my visit to the Partenón. I felt emotional and grateful that these temples are being protected for the enjoyment of new generations. Our guide was very good in explaining facts and legends about the places we visited. Thank you for this unforgettable experience.
Our driver and guide were dynamite! I highly recommend the separate guide to take you through the Acropolis, museum and city! She added so much more than if we’d done it ourselves! Our driver was fantastic too! A great way to cover a lot of Athens in a day! Highly recommend!
Our driver and tour guide were great! Very insightful and gave us a great day of exploring Athens—all its history and mythology! Fun for all ages!
Andreas made our trip spectacular! He always had cold waters for us & really spent the time giving us a colorful & thorough account of Greek history! We couldn’t have been happier with our experience!
Great tour, we got to see and wander around so many beautiful and historic sites. It was a very warm day Andreas was proactive directing us in ways that tended to keep us cooler and hydrated. The temple of Poseidon was a stand out site and it was not crowded and the views were outstanding. I would highly recommend this tour as an excellent way to see a lot and the skip the line service is highly recommended. Also, Andreas was great, very knowledgeable and excellent to have as a guide.
We had a private tour for 6 and the day was just perfect! Petros was our driver guide and he was perfect! He knew history and explained it in a way that made it easy to understand. He himself was well travelled and could add much perspective to the differences between Greece and American culture. He was a kind funny man and was a walking book of knowledge on everything from ancient to modern times. The tour is a great combination as you get to see Athens and then get out of the city to see the coastline down to the Temple of Poseidon. We had a great lunch at a small taverna in one of the small fishing towns along the way. You won’t go wrong with Warm Penguin as your tour company and Petros as your driver guide!
This is a fantastic tour for any family visiting Athens. We had Yannis as our driver and Vicky as our guide. Everything was perfect and I will recommend this tour to all our friends and family. Please get all the upgrades; mercedes van, lunch by the sea, etc.
Skip the Cape Sounion and focus on the Athen’s highlights. It took 3 hours away from us and then the guide was trying to rush to get us through everything. She got frustrated as we were a little slower taking pictures and exploring. Wish we had those additional 3 hours in Athens.
We were on a time constraint due to the departure time of our cruise ship, and our guide was very accommodating! He adjusted our itinerary so we could see all the highlights we were looking forward to most. He was very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. 10/10 would book again!
The tour was wonderful! Our tour guide Petros was amazing!! Very knowledgeable and just an all around great person to talk to. Great way to see all the sights!
