My favourite part of Athens. Such a beautiful place. So amazing to walk around the site and see what life used to be like over there. 10/10, especially at 8am when there was barely any other people there. Felt like we had the whole place to ourselves.

Itinerary
The ancient Agora in Athens was the center of political, social, religious and commercial activities. In Greek, the word “agora” means “a gathering place” or “market place”. As the name says, it had actually been for centuries a place where merchants and sellers sold goods to those who gathered in this place. Not only did the ancient Agora serve as a gathering place where people traded goods, it was also used as a site in which people exchanged news, gossips, discussed the latest political matters, and even criticized the government. This was also the place where prominent Greek philosophers such as Socrates, Aristotle, and Plato exchanged thoughts and ideas. The area of the ancient Agora includes some of the most important monuments of Athens such as the Temple of Hephaistos, the Altar of The Twelve Gods, the Apollon Patroos, the Church of the Holy Apostles and more.

Got to the gate and was refused entry on the tickets paid to and provided by Trip Advisor . Best to book by official website. Very disappointed.
The low score is a reflection on the audio guide, and not the Ancient Agora and Temple which are absolutely fascinating. It is a really interesting site and gives a real feel of life in ancient Greece. However, our experience of the audio guide was not great, and I would , in hindsight, have preferred to pay the entrance fee at the gate and wandered around myself as there is so much information displayed at the site. I did not feel the audio guide gave me anything extra, and both myself and my husband had minor technical difficulties - for example if I skipped back to re-read something, then moved to the next feature, the audio would be stuck at the previous feature. I had to exit the app and go back a few times before I gave up with it around a third of the way through. I also felt there should be more directions to next point of interest as the map does not always give an idea of distance and I couldnt find two or three stops.
Mid pricing, about 1 hr. Very calming and little people there. There was little inside the temple, and it was very repetitive as well. Staff were nice as well.
No, we wasn't able to obtain audio & wasn't able enjoy ourselves because we didn't know what we were looking at
Our experience was frustrating! The meeting point was incorrect, the ticket sent to us was wrong and for a different tour, then the ticket office at the Ancient Agora informed me that I did not need a ticket for my 15 year old son. The tour operator and Viator were not able to get me a refund for his ticket. Also, it would’ve been extremely helpful to know that we had a 1 hour time window to enter. We unnecessarily rushed to get there right at 1 pm.
The “tickets” were not accepted at the entrance and we were not allowed in. $90 down the drain. Also the meeting place listed was wrong as this site has construction all around and it’s a good thing we wanted to be early because it took nearly half an hour to walk around to the back side to get to the ticket place. RUDE people. Waste of my time. All other tours were wonderful … this one was a bad memory and a waste of time and money. AVOID
The site is definitely worth visiting. The audio guide was ok. The computer generated voice mis pronounced so many words that it was easier to read the description than listen to it
Spent some time in the Ancient Agora yesterday afternoon, loved it. Plenty to see! Peaceful, no queues, lots of trees amongst the ruins and artifacts. Temple is more complete than the Parthenon. Pity the little church is closed for repairs as it is meant to be fabulous, but the museum is excellent. Not too big to get around or cause loss of interest, but lots of variety and explanations, and looks beautiful. A "must see" in Athens.
The agora is cool, but you can see it from outside the gates. Unless you are very interested in each specific thing, I probably wouldn’t suggest. Also, the address was wrong due to construction, so we had to walk around to find it.
Incredible experience but you don’t need to get the tickets from here. Go direct to the website or purchase on the front gate. Can save some money. No tour guide needed. Huge site, lots of work. Be comfortable and prepare for hot dry sun.
A great tour! Very informative and definitely the best way to see the Acropolis. We had some older folks in our group and our guide, John, was amazing at making sure everyone was doing well with the steep climb in the heat. Definitely a hike, there are stairs but they are pretty slippery from the amount of foot traffic, people with mobility issues should be extra cautious. But truly the best part of our trip so far, highly recommend!
The temple is a very impressive building and there are great views of the Acropolis. The ancient agora is a vast area to explore with many interesting features to see. The museum has a large amount of exhibits and from there upper level there are fantastic views of the agora and temple beyond.
The app used for the self guided tour was unhelpful in matching geo location to what the audio was reading. The meeting point was a closed entrance and many other entrances were closed which meant that we arrived later than planned. The audio is very robotic so in the end I abandoned the app due to the numerous difficulties with the app. Recommend to search for a tour guide of area rather than self guided due to difficulties.
Christina was by far the best she was so thorough with explaining all the facts and significance of the monuments and the Ancient Greek mythology. I am a history lover so I had some background knowledge but I learned so much from Christina because she really takes her time explaining everything. I would highly recommend taking this tour and shout out to Christina she is amazing at her job.
This isn't the fault of the provider of this audio tour, but the main entrance to this historical area is closed and there's a new one. However, Google Maps doesn't know this, so we spent almost an hour walking around the perimeter trying to find the way to get in. When we finally did, we had to manually find the audio entries every time (there's really no easy-to-see path through this area) and whatever geo-targeting they say they are doing to align the location of the person with the audio portion of the tour doesn't work. We eventually gave up and this was pretty much a waste of money.
This tour was exceptional! The coastline views and sunset at the temple were beautiful! George took us to the most amazing restaurant for dinner…. The 4 Brothers!! 😍 Wonderfully fresh and tastefully prepared Greek dishes! You won’t be disappointed!
App based tour with ticket included. The entry ticket worked bout the tour would not download. Unfortunate.
The provided address for this attraction was in Greek, the location was very difficult to find & when we finally got there the ticket was not valid. We did not get to do this excursion, I’m sure it was great…but I wouldn’t know!
The tickets were a bit confusing because we were originally sent a barcode which I printed and saved on my phone, but there's an extra attachment with QR codes to download, but we didn't know that until the man at the gate said the ticket was incorrect. We had to find wifi to contact the company and go back through emails do that. Once inside though, it was great - the audio was very informative.
The Agora and the Temple are must see. The self guided tour was worthless. It never was always stuck, restarting, and the geo locator worked very seldomly.
Must see! It was a good thing we got our tickets in advance because there was a long line to get in.
The Ancient Agora is lovely to walk through and the Temple of Hephaestus is one of the best preserved Temples dating back to 415 BCE
A place to visit absolutely of the well-kept ruins especially the temple inside them there is a museum that you visit with the same ticket the route is easy although a little tiring
Very good experience! We highly recommend this guide! The explanations are clear and precise.
Only purchase and payment were simple. From the moment we were on the site and needed the audio guide it was all very complicated: Download another application, key Tours, enter the code received x mail (but I bought the tickets x 4 people and the codes received were disposable- not all could have connected. Those who eventually succeeded (2 out of 4 people only) found that we had received the audio guide for a different experience than we had gained. A disaster On the app now the images related to the ride no longer appear and therefore I can not prove that I received the wrong tour. Never again!!!!
