I arrived at the Grand Hyatt Athens very late at night after a long day of travelling. The hotel itself is very nice, with a beautiful rooftop, and the restaurant staff were extremely friendly, welcoming and attentive. However, my first impression of the arrival experience was not the best. The hotel is very large, with many rooms and floors, and as it was my first time staying there and I arrived so late after a long journey, I would have really appreciated it if a member of the reception team had offered to show me to my room or at least provided clearer directions. It would have been a small gesture, but one that would have made the arrival feel much more welcoming and personal, especially for a hotel of this standard.

Really disappointed in this hotel. It is definitely in need of a renovation. Rooms were shabby and cleanliness was not bad but not great either. Furniture was stained and headboard vinyl was all ripped up. Lobby furniture was stained too. Check in line was super slow. We came back to the hotel around 2 pm after an excursion only to find our room still had not been cleaned for the day. We were so tired we opted not to have it cleaned so we could rest. I was very disappointed in my stay here. Breakfast was pretty good. Hotel is Definitely not up to Grand Hyatt standards
This hotel is a major mixed bag. The positives: Room was spacious, comfortable bedding, very nice spa/indoor pool/steam room/sauna, amazing views of the Acropolis from the rooftop pool and bar (having a drink there at night was the highlight of my stay) The negatives: The location is very sketchy. It is surrounded by three huge strip clubs with prolific signage. I would not recommend it for children. It’s not in the heart of the city, so you need a 5-10 minute taxi or shuttle to get to the main attractions. The food offerings in the concierge lounge were terrible, and there was trash all over the floor. I propped up my feet on a coffee table because of the trash (mostly nuts). I was promptly asked my a member of the staff to remove my feet from the coffee table. Elevators very often had long wait times, so don’t order an Uber/taxi that’s 1-2 min away as it might take 5 minutes to get down to the main floor. By far the worst problem is the check-in. It was HORRIBLE. I would estimate I waited 30 minutes in line to find out my room was not ready and that I would have to go back through the same line later. I heard many other guests complaining about it and have seen this comment in many other reviews. The front desk was chaotic every time I entered and exited the hotel. I feel sorry for the staff, because they were very nice. This is a management issue. There is absolutely no excuse for management to allow the hotel to be woefully understaffed and for its processes to be so inefficient. Start by cross-training staff to assist with check-in! Plan to spend a long time in line. Or stay somewhere else.
Perfectly fine but these days there’s a category of international hotel that is posh but bland - you could be anywhere in the world with the same glass and wood features. It ticked all the boxes for a one night stay, and staff were fine - although it was weird that neither a woman on the front desk nor the concierge had heard of the restaurant literally next door - but I think for tourist sites (why we were there) it wasn’t that convenient, although there was a bus stop nearby. Breakfast was a decent buffet, and the roof top pool was a fun feature. Not bad but would I choose to stay here again next time I’m in Athens or recommend it to a friend? No, if I was staying to explore the city in greater depth.
We spent 4 very beautiful days in this nice hotel. I would highlight the staff as the most positive things. The staff at the reception, housekeeping, bar, and breakfast do an amazing job. Although everyone does an amazing job we would single out Maria from the restaurant/bar on the 8th floor, Stavroula from Front desk and Mr. Nectarius from breakfast. Amazing people. Breakfast with a view of the Acropolis and the sea leaves you breathless. Swimming pools are, of course, something without which it would be difficult to survive a hot summer day in Athens. Beautiful pools. We will definitely come again
