Itinerary
The Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Order of Friars Minor Conventual in Assisi, a town in the Umbria region in central Italy, where Saint Francis was born and died
This bright and spacious basilica consists of a single four-bay nave with cross-vaulted ceiling bordered with patterns of crosses and leaves, a transept and a polygonal apse. The four ribbed vaults are decorated alternately with golden stars on a blue background and paintings.
The Temple of Minerva is an ancient Roman building. It currently houses a church, Santa Maria sopra Minerva, built in 1539 and renovated in Baroque style in the 17th century. The temple was built in the 1st century by will of Gnaeus Caesius and Titus Caesius Priscus, who were two of the city's quattuorviri and also financed the construction.
Erected in 1615 on the remains of a building believed to be the home of St. Francis. The building’s architecture design is from the Renaissance period. The façade, built of brick, is divided by four pillars supporting a Doric entablature, with attic gable, above which rises a hemispherical dome.
The Basilica of Saint Clare is a church dedicated to and contains the remains of Saint Clare of Assisi, a follower of Saint Francis of Assisi and founder of the Order of Poor Ladies, known today as the Order of Saint Clare.
It's located 4km away from the center of Assisi. The white building nestles in a quiet lane surrounded by mountains. This is the hermitage of the Carceri where St. Francis and his followers were praying and meditating. "Eremo" means hermitage in Italian
San Damiano is a church with a monastery near Assisi, Italy. Built in the 12th century, it was the first monastery of the Order of Saint Clare, where Saint Clare built her community.
Built on a grandiose scale, the Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli is the seventh largest Christian church. Its magnificence may be at odds with the simplicity preached by St Francis himself but the flocks of pilgrims coming to visit the primitive Porziuncola chapel and the Cappella del Transito called for a building that was able to accomodate the faithful.

This was an excellent day tour, highlighting the life of Saint Francis around Assisi, from his initial days, through his teaching and to his death. While the sites within Assisi were amazing, those outside the town were maybe even more impressive, because they reflected his deeper personality. The Hermitage was particularly moving. Our guide Michaele was knowledgeable, and he took care to tailor the tour to our own interests. AA++ day.
We had a great experience on the all day tour. Great way to see and learn about this beautiful city. Our tour guide - Marica- was amazing. She brought history alive - especially St Francis and St Clare .we recommend without hesitation.
We loved learning about St. Francis and St. Clare and seeing the beautiful city, art, and countryside. Our tour guide, Mikelle, was so knowledgeable and insightful. This was our best Italian excursion.
Marika was absolutely outstanding. We appreciated her knowledge of Saint Francis and the region. She was such a delight to be with all day. I would highly recommend the private tour.
Very informative and the guide was extremely knowledgeable. The trip involves a lot of walking and hills but I didn't feel rushed
Outstanding. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and responded to all our interests and questions. The private driver made things very convenient and easy. The guide made adjustments that suited the daily schedule of various places.
The entire trip was so deeply touching. It was a journey through Saint Francis's life and conversion. It also included a side trip to visit Blessed Carlos Acutis. My wife and I are believers with and affinity for Saint Francis. This was the main focus of our trip to Italy. Our wonderful guide, Alexandra made this so much more impactful. In addition, her knowledge of local customs, culture, and history contributed greatly to our wonderful experience in Assisi. It added much depth and understanding. We felt so welcomed. I might also add that she made our tour fun!
We had a lovely day visiting sites associated with St Francis and St Clair. Our guide was very knowledgeable, patient and kind. I highly recommend this tour
All I can say is wow! Awesome tour and guide. Very informative with full knowledge of the entire area. Exceeded our expectations!
We hIred a private tour guide for my wife and me. Experience was excellent. So much religious history there. You won't be disappointed.
Our tour guide provided a lively and passionate tour filled with history, legends, and genuine passion for the subject matter...Francis and Clare.
Our guide, Michele Tomassoni was well informed, sensitive to our needs and good company. He knew all the art and architecture, but more importantly he has a personal appreciation for the life and spirit of St. Francis. We signed up for the full day tour, the morning at the major basilicas and other sites in the town of Assisi and the afternoon at the key sites in the life of St. Francis outside the town, something we would not have wanted to miss. We had only one day in Assisi and could never have done this much on our own. There are less expensive options, but we chose a full day private tour for 300 euro and it was well worth it. We saved an additional 100 euro by providing our own transportation to the sites outside the town, since we had a rental car. I am sure they have many good guides, but if you can get Michele you will not be disappointed.
Wonderful visit divided into two half days. on 31 afternoon the Basilica of the Saint and the next morning S. Maria degli Angeli, Porziuncola, S. Rufino and walk along Assisi to the Basilica of the Spoliazione with a visit to the burial of Carlo Acutis. Our guide was Mrs. Myriam whom I thank sincerely for expertise, preparation and affability
Penultimate religious visit on a meditation tour: to think of this place in 1200, its "bed", its visions: for a believer it is to draw closer to his faith.
Must-see, the Porziuncola, Santa Chiara, the Basilica of San Francesco, the woods of San Francesco, we shot little because it was raining and we entered late, next time I hope to do it all but maybe in spring summer. Assisi is all beautiful there is nothing to say, the houses, the cleanliness of the city, while the character of the people....🤔 not really nice.
Very happy of the magnificent day, our guide Giovanna, very well prepared, accompanied us to the beautiful Assisi (from the wonderful places of San Francesco and Santa Chiara in the historic center, and then reach the Hermitage of the prisons and Santa Maria degli Angeli), with a detailed story both historical and religious, with professionalism and sympathy that has won over, not only us adults, but also fascinated our children of 13 and 9 years. Thanks to the agency and their availability.
WONDERFUL day to discover Assisi and St. Francis .. under the sign of calm, nature and wonderful frescoes .. we will be a place really to visit and make your own... the added value was certainly having a charismatic and nice guide prepared as Michael who gave a lot of information and explanations on everything .. AVAILABLE 100% .. THANK YOU REALLY HEART ..
In May 2019, we had a full-day guided tour in Assisi with Alessandra Pettinelli. From the very beginning, her vivid way of communicating Assisi and his story in an entertaining way took us. We were particularly impressed by the combination of professional knowledge with vivid communication. The entire day, which Ms. Pettinelli designed with a lot of commitment and passion, was a great experience. A heartfelt thank you and an unconditional recommendation on our part .
