This is a very long tour. The value is certainly there for all the driving. However, I was extremely shocked by the very large "mandatory" tip they asked for. They asked for $25USD per person. Which I don't think is an acceptable amount to make mandatory. This request immediately made me uncomfortable. Another thing I did not like was that there are kids with chameleons along the hike who offer to let you hold the animal. The guide should NOT be offering to hold them. This is bad tourism and is harmful to the animals. The kids also want money, obviously. This is also tourism that you should not be supporting. The hike to the waterfall when it is raining is really not that safe. I do not recommend it unless you have extremely good grip shoes, as you will just be sliding in the mud the whole time, which makes for a really unappealing experience. Our guide was really lovely. But perhaps the company should be paying him more if they "require" us to tip him $25USD per person.
We did a day tour with Johnny to Materuni waterfalls and Chemka hotsprings and everything was perfect. The car, food, stops, and above all our guide. Thank you for the tour, the good mood and everything you showed and taught us ! Particularly enjoyed stopping in the wild to watch the sunset over Mount Meru and the Kilimandjaro. We would definitely recommend Suricata and Johnny !
We had an amazing day! Our tour guide Jonny was the best, we shared a lot of laughs and he gave us many new information. We started the day by hiking to the Materuni Waterfall, then went to see how coffee is made, had a traditional lunch and finished with visiting the hot springs. Would recommend 10/10
The tour was very nice, waterfalls, coffee and food were very good as well as the hot springs, perfect to relax after the hike to the waterfalls. We went with the tour guide called Jonny, he was really nice, explained everything and took perfect care of everything. We totally recommend this tour!
Twalbu is very nice poeple. He was very attentive to us, waited for us, and was very friendly.
Great experience, lovely people
After a Great safari experience we decided on a day tour. We visited the large art gallery first, which was impressive. We then did a Coffee tour which took us from the fields through the entire process. Very neat and informative. The meal was delicious and the coffee very good. Karibu coffee farm was great. Johnny was our guide and he was very good. He went above and beyond. He even took us to the Maasi market to shop for local gifts. Recommend.
Interesting tour of coffee garden, whole life cycle of growth, harvest, process, ending with tasting fresh ground and roasted coffee. Included lunch which was excellent. Stopped at Art Gallery before and and the Maasi market afterwards. Johnny, our host and driver, was wonderful and accommodating.
We had an amazing one-day tour to Materuni Waterfalls and the Chemka Hot Springs, and a big part of that was thanks to Johnny. He was super attentive throughout the entire day, made sure everything went smoothly, and shared so many interesting facts about local culture and life in Tanzania, which made the experience even more special. We also had an excellent guide during the hike to Materuni Waterfalls — very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The coffee experience was wonderful and so much fun, and the Chagga local lunch was absolutely delicious. Everything was well organized, and we truly enjoyed every moment. Highly recommend this tour!
The trip was great. I really enjoyed having a cold refreshing shower inside of this great waterfall, it feels like cleaning Your soul. The coffee tour part was also very interesting so You learn how the coffee is grown and prepared and the coffee itself was so tasty I drank 5 cups :)
Fantastic experience the villagers made us feel so welcome and Irfsn the driver could not do enough for us. The hot springs was great fun and the coffee pit of this world
Mr. Jr has been super helpful. The waterfall was phenomenal, even got to see the top of Kilimanjaro emerging from the clouds. What a way to finish the trip!
Very nice day with Johnny as our guide. Came to pick us up from our hotel and drove us around the entire day! Had e very busy and lovely day
We had a day to spare before our flight that night so this tour filled in the day We loved seeing the coffee plantations and swimming in the hot springs. The blue colour of the water was absolutely beautiful Loved it and was dropped off at airport in time for our flight
We took a Materuni waterfall and Chagga tribe coffee tour. Our guide was Ilfan, who was great, kind and helpful. The hike is about 45 minutes one way, the path is rather muddy. Prepare to get wet by the waterfall! The views are amazing. The visit at the Chagga tribe village was an amazing experience. We learned how they make coffee and then had a sip. We also had a lovely local lunch at the village. We highly recommend taking this trip!
Was a very nice experience to see the Materuni Waterfall and Hot Springs. Especially the waterfall was incredible. Pure power of nature. The weather was rainy, so the hiking to the Materuni was slippery and a little challenge, but it was worth it (hiking shoes and rain jacket are helpful). Hot springs were nice as well. Even in May the water was enjoyable and warm enough to have a little swimming. At least we want to recommend our Tour Guide and driver Ilfan from Suricata Safaris. A very kind and friendly person. Also he had a great knowledge about the Materuni and the people living there. So overall it was a nice adventure trip we can recommend.
Wow! Our guide Ilfan took us on such a special tour to the waterfall and hot Springs. We loved being amidst the mountains and trekking down to the Falls. They were stunning and the adventure was fun. We were so impressed by the meal provided by the Materuni locals, with most dishes made from banana. It was such a lovely experience ! We had lots of fun with the coffee process and coffee party, those guys know how to vibe. We finished the day at the most stunning pools at Chemka hot Springs with pristine crystal clear water and gorgeous jungle trees. Ilfan was so wonderful the whole day making sure we had a great experience and got lots of photos. Highly recommend !
Ilfan was great quide✨ Love the waterfalls and spring. Also it was fun to make coffee! Nice way to spend a day, highly recommented this tour😊
I thought the hike to the Materuni Falls was splendid. If you are looking for a daily activity around Arusha/Moshi and don’t feel like doing anything too strenuous, this activity is perfect. If the weather allows, you’ll get some great snapshots of the snowed out Kilimanjaro peak. The hike itself is beautiful through jungle landscapes and the waterfall is gorgeous. Highly recommend brining a towel and a swim suit, if you dare to dive into the cold waters. That feels particularly good after a solid “African massage” drive to get to the Materuni Village. The coffee farm experiences is cool and a nice way to end the trip. You’ll hear about how they prepare the coffee at the villages, a little bit about the Chaga tribe and listen to some ritual songs. The coffee was pretty tasty! The Chemka Waterfalls was perhaps the greatest of surprises. After a long drive through a super dry region of Arusha you get to the coolest hot springs ever. Great scenario and super fun environment. Saw a large and colorful lizard which contributed to the experience. Using the swing for a jump into the water is a must! Our guide for the day organized by Suricata was Obby, and he was great. Fantastic experience with him. Would recommend for anyone having an extra day around Arusha!
I had a really good day with Ilfan and Emmanuel! It was very well organised and the pick up was on time. They were very knowledgeable about the Chagga people and the plants in the area and I learnt some extra words in Swahili. The waterfall was great and the walk there was scenic, through the forest. It was 4.5km in total (there and back again). The lunch was delicious and the coffee making was fun! I definitely recommend them.
Our guides Ilfan and Emmanuel were super informative and easy-going! They made the experience. The hike is beautiful in general, taking you by the local village and then you get to the gorgeous Materuni falls where you can swim. Afterwards, we did the coffee tour where we took part in the grinding, processing, and roasting the coffee we drank. Lunch was also great, and we made a new kitty friend
Great day trip with Emmanuel! He showed us the waterfall and then we went with him and Ilfan to the coffee making tour. Definitely a good way to spend few hours if you’re able to take the trip from Arusha
Great experience our guide ilfan was very polite organized and open he explained a lot during the trip which was really interesting and helpful suricata is a best company
We did the day trip to materuni with ilfan wehad guided walk to the waterfall followed by coffee tour and fabulous lunch in the löcal village ilfan is a best guide
Very nice trip to wonderfull Materuni waterfall included coffee tour and home made lunch made by chimbo family all that finished in amazing hot springs all guided by Ilfan - ideal person to take you through.
If you have a spare day in Arusha, I highly recommend going on a day trip to the Materuni waterfall and the Chemka hotspings with Suricata Safaris. We combined the trip with a coffee tour in Materuni where the local coffee producers showed us the process from plant to your own cup of coffee. Special thanks to our wonderful guide Ilfan for showing us around!
We did the day trip to Materuni and Chemka hotsprings with John Jr and Ilfen Azu. We had a guided walk to the waterfalls followed by coffee making/drinking and a fabulous lunch in the local village. Followed by a relaxing and fun time at the hotsprings. We would 100% recommend this trip.
It was really nice 1-day tour - we saw Materuni waterfalls (you’ll need 1 hour trekking to reach the waterfall), we visited the Materuni village and see the whole process of coffee production - really enjoyed! Also we have a lunch with local food: banana soup, meat, rice, fruits for dessert - everything was delicious:) And finally we visited Chemka hot springs - was perfect after long way :) Thanks to our guides - John Jr and Mister T - good company is always nice :)
Great experience! Our guide, Mister T, was very polite, organized and open. He explained a lot during the trip which was really interesting and helpful!
We had a amazing day with our guide mister T. The hike to the waterfall is with great views and the water is refreshing! Hot springs are amazing
Mr T, our guide, was great! He Knew a lot of things about the the plants we came across etc. And the trip was amazing! Nice swim in the hotsprings and near the beautiful Waterfall and not to forget, great coffee and lunch! Would highly recommend!
The waterfalls were really beautiful. There were not many tourists, so it was just us and nature which I really loved. After the waterfalls, we had a whole explanation about how coffee is made and it was very interesting to do the process yourself. Lunch was delicious with typical Tanzanian food. Everybody was really friendly and we were lucky with our guide mister T. He gave some interesting facts along the way. Thanks a lot for the experience!
Very good and clear explanation from our guide Mister T. The walk to the waterfalls is not that hard, the view is spectacular. Afterwords, the process of coffee making was very interesting & we enjoyed very much our own handmade coffee. The closing lunch was a lot & very delicious. Only good recommendation!
Wonderful and highly recommended day trip from Arusha. Mr T was our guide. He took us for a hike to the falls. On the way, he showed us banana, avocado, coffee frees and others. He was very patient as we are not fast walkers. The coffee tour was very nice and the lunch was delicious. Our last stop of the day was the hot springs, a beautiful watering hole sourced by mountain Kilimanjaro. It was a long drive but a Great way to see the life outside Arusha. Lovely day and highly recommended.
We were collected from the airport by our guide, the very patient Mr T, who had to wait for us for longer due to delays. Along the way, he explained the sights, taught us new words in Swahili and luckily, we had enough visibility to spot the mighty Kilimanjaro peak. We were driven to lush, green Materuni, where we took a hike up to the dramatic waterfall. If rain is forecast, be sure to wear waterproof hiking boots. We then had a delicious, traditional meal - banana beer is recommended! - and watched happy locals in their tradition of singing and dancing while they grind beans and make coffee from scratch. This was a wonderful introduction to enchanting Tanzania, guided by the attentive Mr T.
This was our first day in Tanzania and it was epic. We went straight from the airport on this tour and it was such an amazing day out. The waterfall is stunning and it's a nice hike after the travel. Lunch is delicious and loved the coffee making session in a local village afterwards. Great wholesome day out. Mr T is a fantastic guide, learned lots and even picked up a few words of Swahili. Definitely recommend!
A fantastic trip to explore another part of this amazing country! Beautiful waterfall, the best coffee, and all expertly guided by Mr. T. The stop at Chemka Hot Springs and meeting all the wonderful people from Tanzania made it even more special. 5 stars!"
Amazing day trip! The waterfalls were beautiful, the coffee tour was great fun and the springs a real surprise! Highly recommend adding after a safari trip
Perfect day trip only couple of hours from Arusha! Waterfall was beautiful and the hike to it rather easy. Lunch was delicious too. My favorite part was the coffee making..it was really good coffez. I would recomend.
Amazing experience specially for the preparation of the coffee in front of the warterfall So nice people we met during this day ! I recommend this experience without doubt with Suricata and our guide Mr T.
We just did the trip to Materuni waterfall and Chemka hotspring and it was a amazing experience. Our guide Mister T was awesome, he shared with us a lot of knowledge and was really nice and friendly (special bravo for his vidéo and photography talent)! We will forever remember the coffe fabrication with typical singing, the soinsof the waterfall and swimming pool water of the hot spring. Thanks again suricata for this spécial day ! 🤩
We had a great day with Mr. T! We saw the amazing waterfall and enjoyed a special coffee experience. Very recommended 👍🏻
I would highly recommend this tour! We had half day free before catching our flight in the late afternoon, and this tour fit perfectly. Everything is perfectly organized, you get to do a short and easy hike to the waterfall, see the mount Kilimangiaro, and see how they grow and prepare coffee. Lunch was very good too. Mr. T (our guide) made everything simple, fun and interesting. Asante sana for everything 🙏
I had an amazing day out with Suricata. As a student solo traveler on a budget, they were really understanding and helpful in arranging everything for me with a great affordable price which suited me. I do really appreciate their support, and the good service of Ally (manger at Suricata). Couldn’t forget about Kevo as well. He was my driver. A really nice guy, cool, friendly, helpful, easy going and always smiley! Already missed him! Would highly recommend!
This tour is so fun and amazing!! Really appreciate how Mr T and John Jr helped as throughout the tour! They showed and explained to us about the different plants along the way to the waterfall. They helped us take really pretty photos and videos too! The waterfall is really gorgeous! And the coffee tour is so fun!! The people in the village will teach you the process from collecting beans to making coffee! The coffee makes from the beans they grow there (it’s organic too!) is one of the best coffee I ever drink!! Not to mention, the lunch we had at the end of the tour is so interesting and delicious!
We did the Materuni waterfall hike + coffee tour and I had the best experience. Mr T was my driver/photographer, along with Mr John JR and they made the whole thing a 10/10 experience. From getting the best angles at Materuni, to knowing when to film me doing activities at the coffee tour! They sang and gave facts about the different plants we see during the hike and just made the whole experience fun and memorable.
Had an amazing trip with Mr T and Mr John or jr - they were great company throughout and looked after us very well. The walk was well worth it - views were stunning and the waterfalls provided the Wow factor at the end of it. Great meeting Justin snr and Justin Jnr and the rest of the village Chuga tribe as they showed us how to make coffee - we drank what we made (exceptional, so had to buy some to take home). Food was amazing too and we couldn’t help but get caught up in the songs they sang as they worked. Great day out from start to finish. Thank you!
I did the Materuni waterfall hike + coffee tour, then I visited Serval Wildlife (instead of the Springs visit), and I had the best day!! Mr T was my driver/photographer and he made the whole thing a 10/10 experience. From getting the best angles at Materuni, to knowing when to film me doing activities at the coffee tour, and then getting me to Serval on time before my flight. Mr T also was the person who told me I could visit Serval Wildlife, since their website barely has details (they make it look like it’s accommodation only, you can do a day visit for $120USD as of Aug. 24).
The Materuni waterfall is beautiful and the trek to it is also just as stunning. I am quite unfit but still managed to do it. Just explain to your guide you want to go slower and it’s no problem. Wear hiking boots or trainers with good grip as some areas are slippery. Afterwards was an interesting session on how they prepare coffee. You get to also meet the Chaga tribe, who are very welcoming, I actually preferred to the Masai tribe experience as this feels more authentic. They were very nice hosts. They make you the most tastiest Tanzanian meal and I recommend you try the banana beer or liquor. Finally you get taken to Chemka hot springs where you can enjoy the natural warm water with the local people. A worthwhile experience.
