Perfect tour, we liked it from A to Z especially our guide Innocent was really nice and he was work was really professional. We really enjoyed the trip due to him.

Itinerary
Materuni is the home of the Chagga tribe and is still an authentic tribal village. This charming place is just 15km away from Moshi Town and is the last village before the Kilimanjaro National Park. First you will visit the waterfalls, which are around a 40-minute walk away. On the way, trail can be slippery & muddy best to have good hiking boots. The views are truly breathtaking, and with some luck you will see the summit of Kilimanjaro. When you reach the waterfalls, you will see that they are more than 80 meters high. The pool at the bottom of the waterfall is an inviting place for a refreshing swim so don‘t forget your swimwear! After having enjoyed the scenery, you slowly return with your guide to Materuni village, where you will experience a traditional Chagga lunch. You also will have the opportunity to taste our local banana beer – definitely not to be missed! Tip: Chagga tribesmen are Tanzania’s finest brewers
But that’s not all. Next the coffee experience awaits you. Here you will learn how coffee is cultivated, dried, roasted and further processed. You will also be invited to help with the grinding of the coffee, which is traditionally accompanied by Chagga songs and dances - a fun way to immerse yourself in the local culture. Before you say goodbye, you can savor the coffee you made and appreciate the views of the surrounding rainforest.
After the coffee tour in Materuni your trip continues to the Kikuletwa Hot Springs. The ride to the hot springs takes about an hour and 20 minutes and leads partly over bumpy slopes Enjoy a wonderful afternoon in just the way you want, in the sun dozing, chatting with the locals at the small bar, or swimming - you determine the course. We leave the hot springs in the late afternoon (just before sunset) and return relaxed to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi. Note: have swimming wear & towels

My trip started from Arusha and it was a great experience - app. 2,5 h drive from Arusha and you reach Materuni region, then morning trekking to Materuni Waterfalls which was spectacular, full of amazing views, then coffee workshop in the village on the way back from waterfall was also a great fun. You will learn about the coffee making process and then you will have a chance to prepare it on your own with the local people. Then lunch will be provided in the same place, traditional and very tasty. After that you proceed to Chemka hot springs which are located in the hald way back from Moshi to Arusha. Hot springs are maginicent and the water so clear and fresh, great ending of the day. The water there is about 15m deep, so if you are afraid you can rent a tube for 5 USD, which work perfectly for chilling in the middle od the water. Guide was also very good and have a lot of knowledge.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We had such a great experience and I highly recommend this tour! There is quite a bit of driving involved, including some intense bumpy backroads, so I recommend taking something for motion sickness if you’re prone to getting carsick! Our guide, Benson, was wonderful! We really enjoyed chatting with him and later listening to music during the drive, which made the travel time enjoyable. Our first stop was the swimming hole, and WOW! It was absolutely gorgeous and honestly one of the prettiest places I have ever seen! We had plenty of time to change in the provided bathrooms and enjoy swimming. Just a heads-up, the bathrooms are traditional squat toilets (holes in the ground), but they were relatively clean for what they were. Next was the waterfall hike, which was definitely more challenging than we expected, mainly because the trail was muddy from the rain the day before. It ended up being a great workout, though, and the stunning views and waterfall made it completely worth it! Afterward, we headed to the coffee experience, which was SO much fun! We got to learn about and participate in the entire coffee-making process, from bean to cup. The coffee was incredibly fresh and delicious, but the best part was the people! They made the whole experience so entertaining with singing, laughter, and teaching us about their traditional coffee-making process. We absolutely loved it! We finished with a delicious traditional lunch they prepared for us, which was the perfect way to end the day. Another thing we really appreciated was that they offered to take our phones throughout the tour to capture some epic photos and videos! They knew all the best spots and angles, and we ended up with some amazing footage to remember the experience! Overall, such a fun and memorable experience with beautiful scenery, a little adventure, wonderful people, and delicious food and coffee. Highly recommend!
We were a group of 6 Australian ladies who had Benson and Innocent as our guides for the day. They were very professional and informative and both had a great sense of humour! We had a fantastic day with them both and would absolutely recommend them and the day tour to all.
Our guide was great and we had a wonderful time. After many days of safari, getting out to a hike was great. And the coffee making and local foods lunch was nice as well. Highlight was definitely the swimming at the springs. We swam around, floated on the rented tubes, and jumped off the swing a few times. Only reason I rated it a 4/5 is because of how much driving there is. It was expected and stated in the experience description, we were just tired of drives after many safari days. Overall a great experience though and happy we did it
Benson our guide was knowledgeable and had the answer to every question. The coffee making was an insightful experience and it was great to support the local Community. The price was good for what we experienced. It was a long day with a lot of driving which varies depending on where you’re staying. I felt safe with Benson’s driving.
Had a really nice time on this excursion. The way to the waterfalls was very wet and muddy so to be prepared for that. The boys at the coffee tour were so much fun and the food they made for us was some of the best on our trip. The hot springs aren't hot, it like lukewarm water but they are so so pretty. I had a really good time. Be warned you go off road a lot so it gets really bumpy if you get motion sickness make sure to bring something to help
the hike to the waterfall is really good. I suggest doing it early morning before it gets hot during the summer times. the coffee making process is too touristy but nice and fun experience along the way. However, I don't think hot springs worth to visit if it requires long drive from/to the accommodation or next stop.
This tool was like no other. You have to experience it for yourself to understand the magnitude of how beautiful it is.
I had a great time with my tour guide innocent. As a solo traveller I felt very comfortable and safe. I would greatly recommended this trip as the waterfalls was stunning and the coffee plantation was super fun. 10/10!
This was such a wonderful experience and my tour guide was Musa. I had the most amazing experience with him. He showed me everywhere that was listed on the itinerary and he was so patient and fully present. It was like hanging out with an old friend. I enjoyed our conversations on the long drives which made it so worth it. I went solo and felt completely safe. It felt like a private experience, and I totally enjoyed the Mataruni village and seeing the beautiful and magnificent waterfall and just enjoying and exploring the village and also I did the coffee tour. I learned how to make the coffee and I tried the coffee and it was just a beautiful beautiful day and after that we went to the Hot Springs and that was also amazing as well so this experience was definitely a 10 out of 10 experience and I highly recommend booking with this company and I highly recommend my tour guide Musa.
One of the most scenic corners of Tanzania. Do not miss!
We had an unforgettable time on this tour, and a huge part of that was thanks to our guide, Benson! From start to finish, he was exceptionally helpful, friendly, and attentive. He is incredibly knowledgeable about the local culture and history, and he patiently and thoroughly answered every single question we threw his way throughout the day. Swimming at the springs was an absolute highlight—so refreshing, beautiful, and tons of fun. On top of that, we were lucky enough to catch amazing views of Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance, which made the whole trip feel even more magical. Everything was smooth, well-organized, and genuinely enjoyable. Highly recommended!
Had a great two days with Safari soles before a wedding and Safari. The communication with our Safari organiser Hawa Thomas was off the chart before we booked and helped with every question so jumped at the chance to do a little sight seeing which she moved about at our needs. Our two day guide “Honest” was great. He did his best with the road conditions ( up by the waterfall you think it’s and tank test track) and always had a calming word or fact to keep the trip enjoyable. He kept the pace of the hike just right and would stop to tell you some information on the surroundings if he suspected a rest was needed. The waterfall was spectacular and the pool very cold only for the brave or stupid .Honest never rushed anything even on the long first day. Coffee tour wasn’t what we expected but was a good laugh and very safe ( food was lovely, so much of it we felt guilty leaving it) . The coffee we made was actually nice. They do a little selling at the end but it was fair and not hard sell like the stalls. No need for the haggle dance. Hot springs was a lovely pool oasis. We turned up at the same time as a Kenyan school day trip so a little crowded. My daughters did like joining them on the rope swing jumping into the main pool. There is quiet pool that’s deeper and has the nibbling fish ( tickles nothing more) that you can start at and drift to the main. The changing facilities are minimal. They maybe fine when there isn’t a school party. 2 nd day was at Duluti lake and a lovely nature tour in a gondola we did expect canoes but eldest daughter was a little under the weather so didn’t question it. Lots of birds- 3 types of King Fishers, weavers, ducks , egrets, kites etc. a troop of monkeys and monitor lizards. Had a packed lunch and then headed home. Down sides - you do have a long drive from Arusha but that can’t be helped. We did stop at a tourist stall before the waterfall so be ready with your haggling. We weren’t ready but we all learn. I really do endorse safari soles for their staff who make sure all your worry’s are answered. We did a lot of looking about and found so many chat bot or automated replies from other operators ( they be great once you get past that level) .
Great experience; our guide Innocent from Safari Soles was very good and knowledgeable, a good driver too over some rugged roads. Coffee demonstration and lunch was interesting and tasty. Highly recommend this experience.
10/10 would recommend! Benson is an amazing guide and driver, he is very knowledgeable about the area and Tanzania in general and conversations with him were really engaging. Got to learn a lot! The activity is a full day activity, very satisfying. The hike to the waterfall is pretty easy and the views at the waterfall are to die for! I could easily stay at the waterfalls an entire day. The whole activity is really well organized, ending with a swim at Kikuletwa which was much much needed and so refreshing. Oh, and the Kilimanjaro beer too 😅🤌🏽
Great day trip for my honeymoon! Guide was good. Waterfall was beautiful, lunch and coffee experience was cool and interactive, and hot springs were refreshing.
We had an amazing day on the Kilimanjaro Coffee Tour, followed by the waterfalls and hot springs tour. Everything was well organized, and we learned a bit about local coffee production while enjoying some beautiful scenery. A special thank you to our guide, Benson, who made the experience even better. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and always happy to answer our questions. His enthusiasm and local insights really added to the tour. We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area. A perfect combination of culture, nature, and relaxation!
We had a great experience at Materuni waterfall and Chemka hot springs with Benson! He was very knowledgeable, shared great stories throughout the day, and was overall very friendly and easy to get along with. Would recommend this excursion with Benson to all my friends.
What an amazing day! The hike to the waterfall wasn’t too hard. A little incline on the way back but totally doable. It does get slippery so wear sturdy shoes. I booked this through Safari Soles and my guide Innocent was fantastic! I didn’t bring a towel for the hot springs and he made sure to stop by a shop and even negotiated on my behalf to get a low price. He made me feel very comfortable as a solo female traveler. If you are looking to book this I would suggest requesting Innocent as your driver. He knows a lot about the area!
We did the Materuni Waterfall day trip through Safari Soles with Innocent as our guide, and we'd absolutely recommend it. The day included a coffee tour of a local plantation, where we saw the whole process from bean harvesting to roasting to drinking the coffee, plus a great lunch. The hike itself was beautiful, culminating at the waterfall. Innocent was phenomenal as our guide. He's local to Arusha, extremely knowledgeable about the flora and fauna (he’d make a great safari guide!), knew the trail really well, including the best spots for photos, and where to step to keep your footing and clearly had great relationships with people in the area, making introductions as we went. If you're looking for a fun, well-guided day trip out of Arusha, this is a great option that I can’t recommend enough.
This combined day trip to the Materuni Waterfalls, local coffee farm, and Kikuletwa Hot Springs was the absolute highlight of my time in the Kilimanjaro region. Everything from the smooth organization to the friendly guides made it a seamless and enriching experience. Tour Highlights Materuni Waterfalls Hike: A scenic, lush 45-minute walk through local coffee and banana farms on the slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro. The waterfall at the end is massive and breathtaking (and the water is wonderfully refreshing if you are brave enough for a swim)! Interactive Coffee Tour: The local Chagga community members shared an amazing, hands-on coffee demonstration. We sang, danced, roasted, and ground our own beans before enjoying the freshest cup of coffee imaginable. Kikuletwa Hot Springs: Driving out to this crystal-clear, turquoise oasis was the ultimate way to relax after the hike. Floating under the giant fig trees and letting the tiny fish give us a natural pedicure was pure bliss. Tips for Future Travelers: Wear sturdy, closed-toe walking shoes or light hiking boots because the trail to the waterfall can get muddy. Bring a swimsuit and a towel for the hot springs, plus a change of dry clothes. Juneid the driver and guide was professional, punctual, and full of fascinating local knowledge. Highly recommend booking this tour for a perfect mix of adventure and local culture!
It was a great experience with the family we all enjoyed and had fun. Its a long hike and it was very muddy and slippery when we went, but our guid Benson was so amazing and helped us along the path.
Mustafa was wonderful! He told us a lot about sites on the way, he was friendly and he really made it fun for our 12 yo laughing and joking with him and making him included all the time. The itinerary was great but Mustafa really made the day. The hike to the waterfall was perfect, just the right amount of rigor, and we had a lot of fun with the coffee farm people. Again, Mustafa was there at every turn and even carried one of our backpacks uphill. The hot springs were busy and atmosphere very jovial. We weren’t sure what to expect, but the crowd was entertaining. We had a great day in Arusha!
We really had a good experience. Benson our guide was wonderful, knowledgeable and a good photographer when we needed him to be.
Was such a good jam packed day. The tour organised to pick me up from my hotel (despite it not being on the list) and drop me off also. We started off with the hike to the waterfall which was stunning. We went early am and missed the crowds which was also great. We then stopped at the coffee farm on the way back. The boys there were so fun and was a very well communicated educational experience. With yummy coffee!! And the lunch was delicious. We then drove to the hot springs which were amazing!! Such a beautiful experience. My guide Edwin was the best, he made it such a fun experience and looked after me well. Made sure I had enough food and water. Was overall a great experience.
It was a well-organized one-day tour with Safari Soles Tours tour operator. Our guide was Benson, who picked us up at the hotel, arrived on time, was kind and helpful throughout the whole day. We walked up to Materuni Waterfalls, these were really nice, after that the coffee tour was very interesting and we were provided with a good lunch also. The last event was to have a bath in Kikuletwa Hot Springs, it was a great time to have a rest a bit in the beautiful lakes. I can recommend the tour for everybody.
It was a wonderful day. We explored, learned and so so many things. Innocent and Benson have been the best guides!
Edwin from Safari Soles was an exceptional guide and truly made our experience memorable. He was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and attentive throughout the entire tour. He guided us beautifully to the waterfall, took the time to answer all of our questions, and shared his knowledge in a way that made the experience even more enjoyable. Beyond his professionalism, Edwin was wonderful company and brought such a positive energy to the day. He is aspiring to become a safari driver, and I genuinely believe he is well on his way. With his passion, curiosity, and dedication, he will make an excellent safari driver in the future. He is already a fantastic tour guide, and we highly recommend him to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, friendly, and memorable experience with Safari Soles. Btw we did a guided tour to the waterfalls along with a local village visit where we were given a Coffee Tour. The village is located on the way to the waterfall so it’s all in the same area.
I had such a lovely time with my guide Innocent (inno), or Mr Nissan man as he is known. We started with the hike to the waterfalls which was lovely and peaceful, I loved that we went early, then came back for the coffee experience which was incredible. Coffee is sooo good. Inno took so many pics for me which made it even better. The lunch was so yummy at this nice hut also, banana soup is delicious, along with all the other tasty local food. Innocent then drove me to the hot springs and I had a lovely time swimming and interacting with other tourists, while he waited patiently. Innocent was very knowledgeable of the area and shared lots of information, which was lovely. I would totally recommend innocent for your guide, he is also very funny and nothing was too much effort. Thanks legend.
Amazing experience, the food, the hiking, the coffee ritual. Ahsante for everything!!!
We've had a delightful day with our guide Eddie. He was very nice from the beginning, he was on time for the pick up, and we have also learnt a lot about the culture. I would highly recommend this activity.
This day trip was a fun experience and included a hike, interactive coffee making demonstration, coffee tasting and lunch. You will want to take some coffee (organically grown) home with you. I took my elderly father, not realizing the hike would be a bit much for him; however, the guide was helpful and patient as he needed to walk carefully and slowly over the rough terrain. This would be a fun family day trip for those wanting to experience a tribal village and support their coffee enterprise.
I did this experience as the final day of my 8 day safari itinerary and it was a wonderful way to wrap up my trip. All of this was arranged through Safari Soles, the team there is amazing. Adelina did a fantastic job designing the activities and stays for my trip. She was able to answer all of my questions quickly and clearly. My guide for this Experience was named Innocent. He did an amazing job getting me around and communicating clearly with me in order to arrange pickup. Innocent has a fantastic personality and was also knowledgeable about the area and activities we were doing. Where he really did a good job was making me feel comfortable and safe throughout the day. He was extremely trustworthy and well equipped to handle all of the roads on this journey. I had a fantastic day with him and hope to see him one day on a future safari as a guide.
My Driver / Guide (Beny) was so amazing. He spoke and understood English very well. He told me all about the different tribe's / regions. I'm a solo traveler this trip and it was just me and the guilde. The hike was easy but if it was to rain 🌧️ (it didn't on my trip) it would make it a lot more difficult (for the car all dirt roads and the hiking) The waterfall was amazing and well worth the hike (the energy it creates was so magical) The drive are about 2 hours to the waterfall and 2 hours from the waterfall to the hot springs. The hot springs are beautiful and the water is crystal clear but the water is not hot.
We had an excellent visit to the waterfall and hot springs with Safari Soles. The hike and coffee tour were very enjoyable. The people working at the coffee kitchen were very friendly and good fun. The hike was great. The hot springs is very cool but there are a lot of people there trying to rent / sell things to you. Thankfully our guide warned us of this before so we knew what to expect. Our guide Innocent from Safari Soles was brilliant. He went above and beyond to ensure that we had a good day. He was kind, patient and helpful throughout the day and taught us a lot about the area and Kilimanjaro. Assante Innocent!
I have nothing but positive things to say about this experience! We were a family of 6 ranging in age from 12 to 70 years!! Starting off with our incredible guides, Innocent and Benson: they took great care of us and were professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and a true pleasure to spend the day with. They both were expert drivers on the very bumpy roads! The hike to the waterfall was wet and muddy but not too difficult if you took care with your steps. The provided rain boots were a must unless you have your own hiking boots. The coffee experience was delightful to the mind and palate! It was a great learning and cultural adventure. Lunch provided amazing food for vegetarians. The hot springs were a great end to a long day.
Our experience on this trip with Innocent and Benson was incredible. Our family ages range from 12 to 70 and the guides accommodated each of us with patience and grace. They genuinely cared about our well-being and happiness. They had rain boots on the ready, water, drinks for the ride, and helped navigate us in a slow and calm way. We spent a long day traveling to various sites and enjoyed a number of cultural experiences. Our guides were quick to answer our questions and seemed to know about everything we asked. It was truly a wonderful experience for our whole family.
The weather had been rainy and moved to heavy mist. I was wearing hiking boots, but should have rented rubber boots. The traction on the narrow red clay trails was treacherous. I fell several times. My daughter continued to the beautiful waterfall, while I stayed at the coffee plantation. Everyone was exceedingly kind.
An Unforgettable Day with an Amazing Guide! We had Benson as our guide today, and he was absolutely amazing! He did a fantastic job sharing the history of the local tribes and the rich culture around Arusha and Materuni. The hike to the Materuni waterfalls was incredible, followed by an awesome coffee-roasting experience. I never thought we would actually get to drink the exact coffee beans we just finished roasting ourselves—that was such a cool and unique highlight! We ended the day at the Kikuletwa Hot Springs, which is beautiful and was the perfect, refreshing way to wrap up a great day of activities. Benson, asante sana! We highly recommend booking a tour with him.
Lovely activity to throw on before or after a safari stint if you have a spare day in Arusha. In our case, this was our very first experience in Tanzania, and our fantastic guide Innocent provided us with the perfect introduction to the country. Not only did he take great care of us through the exhilarating waterfall hike and hot springs swim, but also fielded our numerous questions about our upcoming safari, introduced us to Tanzanian music (and music videos!) and taught us quite a few words in Swahili! Coffee tour and lunch were also great Roads will be bumpy, path may be muddy, and hot springs are not as “hot” as you’d expect, but it’s all part of the adventure.
Fantastic! Johnny was a kind and entertaining guide who made the day magical. The waterfalls were beautiful, the lunch was delicious, and floating in the hot springs was a wonderful way to end the day.
We had the most amazing time on this trip, with our guide Innocent. He had so much local knowledge and made us feel so comfortable and at ease, the whole thing from start to finish was just amazing! I will definitely be recommending to all my friends and family, I would give this day 10 stars if I could!
An amazing experience that you can't skip out on when visiting Tanzania. We spent the day driving from Arusha to the foothills of Kilimanjaro where we did a spectacular hike to the Materuni waterfall. After the hike, we took some time to learn how to make our own cup of Arabica coffee from scratch - a MUST for any coffee lover. Innocent was our guide with Safari Soles. His knowledge was top tier, as was his English, and we felt very safe with him behind the wheel and guiding us through the hills of Kilimanjaro! He is truly a young up-and-comer in the Tanzania tour guide industry, and we would highly suggest requesting his services should you take this journey. Unfortunately, we were unable to visit the hot springs due to our flight arriving much later than anticipated (no fault of the tour operator), but don't doubt that it would have been the cherry on top of an amazing day.
Amazing experience enjoying first the foothills of Kilimanjaro where we did a small hike to a beautiful waterfall and thereafter we enjoyed a coffee where we brewed ourselves. After lunch we drove to the hot spring. A special thank go to our very motivated and knowledgeable guide who was there from the very first minute to the very last happy to answer all questions taking care of everything that was needed. The trip was specially very good because of our Guide Innocent from SafariSoles!
Our day with Enock was nothing short of fantastic. The pick up from the airport was smooth before heading up on an adventure to Materuni Falls. Enock shared cultural information with us along the way and we felt very safe and comfortable with his driving. The road and track up to the falls was very muddy but we had brought hiking shoes and it wasn’t a problem. Enock had also brought gum boots and poles for us to use. The coffee farm and lunch stop were fantastic and we loved our time with the people working there. Let the young people take your photos and videos for you. They are amazing!! It was a great introduction to the country. Absolutely loved our first day in Tanzania. Thanks so much Enock for making it special for us.
It was amazing. Our driver was pleasant, exciting and had many interesting facts about Tanzania. Our local guide was very knowledgeable about local plants, and fruits we saw along the walk. He was also very helpful in areas that were slippery due to mud. The lunch was great, lots of good, and the making of coffee was interesting.
Make sure you are in an off road vehicle- we did not get to do the hot springs due to road conditions from the rain and then the van got a Flat tire which delayed the trip more- the coffee tour was great and the waterfall was stunning( bring ponchos for the mist) and Enoch our guide was great as well
Had an amazing day exploring Moshi with our guide Innocent! He was super friendly, easygoing, and made everything feel fun and relaxed. We visited Materuni Waterfalls, did a coffee tour, and ended the day at Kikuletwa Hot Springs. Innocent explained the coffee-making process step by step and shared a lot about local culture and daily life, which made the experience feel very authentic. Everything was well-paced, and he made sure everyone was comfortable the whole time. Definitely one of the highlights of the trip—highly recommend Innocent if you’re around Arusha! ⭐️
This tour was so much fun! A group of 6 of us enjoyed the day with Innocent and Enoch- both of whom were so kind and informational! We learned so much about the Chaga culture and enjoyed the hike to the waterfall and the coffee experience. Lunch was delicious as well! Would definitely recommend! The hot springs wasn’t bad, but we didn’t feel as if it was worth the long drive to get there. It was a bit crowded and we all agreed our day would have felt complete after the waterfall and coffee experience. Overall, though, a wonderful experience with wonderful guides!
