Itinerary
Located right next to Jerome State Historic Park is the Audrey Shaft Headframe Park, which is open daily from 8 am – 5 pm. The Headframe Park is managed by the Jerome Historical Society. At the Headframe park visitors can stand on glass above a 1,900 foot shaft. The shaft is 650 taller than the highest point of the Empire State Building! It is the largest wooden headframe still standing in Arizona; it was completed in 1918.
Jerome State Historic Park is a state park of Arizona, US, featuring the Douglas Mansion, built in 1916 by a family of influential mining entrepreneurs in Jerome, Arizona, a mining region in the northeast of the Black Hills, east Yavapai County. A museum is located in the old Douglas Mansion.
The mine was established in 1882. Owned by Territorial Governor Frederick Tritle, financing was obtained to begin large scale mining from New York investors such as Eugene Jerome for whom the town was named after. The massive ore found here was mined for over 70 years producing over a billion dollars in copper, gold, silver, zinc and iron. This was the worlds largest copper producer during World War 1.
During the 1930's much of Jerome was in a landslide due to fault lines, massive explosions from the United Verde Copper Company and water erosion. During this time parts of Jerome slid 1 1/2 feet every month. The sliding jail slid approximately 225 ft from its original foundation.
The Museum and Gift Shop were opened in the early 1950s. With displays depicting the timeline of Jerome’s past to its present, items such as old miners equipment to remains of gambling in saloons can be seen within the Museum.
On tour we will pass by many of Jerome's fine wineries.

It was a great overview of the Jerome and copper mining history. Left us wanting more. Our guide was Austin and he did a fantastic job!
Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the town. We enjoyed learning about Jerome
Great in-depth tour with a knowledgeable guide, Ed. Learned a bunch an enjoyed a nice van ride. Jerome is a very cool place filled with great history!
Our tour guide, Austin, was very knowledgeable about Jerome’s history. It was a very small, but cute town. It also was awesome that we were the only ones on this tour, so we got a private tour without paying for a private tour! We learned lots of very interesting facts about Jerome. The last half of the tour took place in an air-conditioned van, which was nice to rest our legs. Austin also dropped us off near where we parked, which was so nice of him. Overall, this experience was awesome and I would definitely do again!
I had no idea of the checkered past of Jerome. On my next visit to Sedona I will definitely plan more time in Jerome!
Staff was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Tour had so much info and was very relaxed. Would highly recommend. The staff from the beginning to finish were frienldy helpful and organized. The whole experience did not skip a beat!! Thank you do much for providing such an amazing experience.
Courtney was a wonderful guide. She knew a lot of history and she made it very interesting. We have gone on to purchase a few books about the area and its history. Thank you Courtney

Courtney was a terrific guide. Very knowledgeable about the town and it's history. Highly recommend.
I had never been to or even heard of Jerome - a great little ghost mining town. Our tour guide told us stories that brought the town to life! We had a great time and really came to appreciate the ghost town on the side of the mountain!
Fun! great guide he was very knowledgeable about Jerome! It is easy to park and find meeting place Good for all ages
Austin is an enthusiastic Jerome historian! He answers questions & will find answers if he doesn’t know them. We thoroughly enjoyed learning from him!
It was the most amazing tour! Ed packed in so much history, trivia facts and interesting stories all in one tour. Being a tour guide is more than just a job for Ed, it was clear that he truly appreciates history and finds it fascinating!
Great and Informative tour, we lucked out being the only 2 on it. But a fun little afternoon of learning about a place you never knew existed and hardships about how wild the West was and for longer than you would expect! Ed was an excellent choice of guide, his personality really led us to to delve into some of the towns history! A+ for a off the beaten path chill experience!!;
Learning about the rise and fall of what was once the largest copper mining town in Arizona was both fascinating and eye-opening. Courtney was engaging, knowledgeable, and an outstanding storyteller who brought Jerome’s colorful past to life. She kept us captivated throughout the tour. Her passion and pride for Jerome were evident in every story she shared, making the experience feel personal and authentic.
Courtney is a fantastic tour guide! She was knowledgeable and fun to chat with about the history of Jerome. I had an amazing time! I have started looking up books about Jerome to read more. Highly recommend this tour, especially if you like having an understanding of origins and legacy.
Ed was super knowledgeable and answered all of our questions! Would definitely recommend if you are visiting Jerome!
We learned so much of Jerome history for our tour guide Ed. We were very lucky to have him all to ourselves. We were going to try to do it on our own, but the last minute we booked the tour. We definitely made the right decision. Thanks Ed.
Courtney was a great a guide. Very knowledgeable and passionate about Jerome. Lots of history in this small town!
I bughly recommend this tour. It was clear that our guide didn't rely on a script. She had done her own research in the Jerome archives to present accurate information and multiple perspectives. She provided fascinating stories of the past and took us to extraordinary sights.
Courtney was a great tour guide - enthusiastic, knowledgeable and funny. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and her energy
Informative. Guide was pleasant and knowledgeable.
The tour was outstanding. Wish I could remember the name of our tour guide she was spectacular. We got the extended tour and I felt like we got such a bonus. I would definitely recommend this to anyone traveling to the Sedona area!
Excellent history tour, knowledgeable guide, fascinating locations, definitely recommend.
For a small town, Jerome has a big history. Our guide, Ed, was one of those people who makes history come alive. Some people have the gift of storytelling….he was great! I didn’t realize Jerome was built on the side of a mountain. If you’re not a heights person, don’t look down! LOL
We took this tour today. In Jerome, and had an excellent guide, Courtney, who was articulate, knowledgable and passionate about accurately presenting the good, the bad, the scandalous, and the hopeful. We loved the presentation, part of which was walking, let of which was in a van, with a few stops. What we didn’t realize from the description of the tour was that it would be a fair amount of walking, some uphill, steps, and in and out of a van. We actually thought it was a lecture and slide show at the historical society. We would have worn sneakers, and brought water. Despite our own misunderstanding, we loved the stories, and Courtney was very descriptive, humorous, and really set the stage for all the information about the rise and fall and resurrection of the town of Jerome. We heard about the miners, the town founders, the fires, the brothels, the churches, the copper mines, the blasting that collapsed many of the buildings, and the rebuilding and renovations of the town as a center for arts, wineries, B and B’s, eateries and other forms of tourism. We especially liked the visit to the Catholic Church that still has services. Jerome has a remarkable history, still being written. Yes, we would highly recommend the tour, we learned a lot, and enjoyed the time. But I would think this isn’t appropriate for kids under 12, or for people who aren’t agile enough to walk hills, and do steep steps. Wear sneakers. Bring water. Thanks, Courtney, great job!
Is a history tour of Jerome. Very informative and interesting to hear the beginning and experiences of the people who established this community.
Austin was a fun guide. He really knew his history.
I've taken many tours in the last year, and this is in my top 5. There was a choice between the ghost tour and the wild west tour. Paranormal stuff isn't my thing so I was glad that wild west was an option. I learned so much! The history of Jerome is absolutely fascinating, and we could tell that our guide Ed has a passion for history. He was clear, truly knowledgeable, and happy to answer questions. He gave us time to take pics and was really just an interesting fellow all around. I even left with some book recommendations about Jeromes wicked history. I will highly recommend this tour! We're STILL talking about it.
Fantastic experience. Super sexy host. Very educational. Amazing place to visit and learn about. Will come back again
Great way to learn more about the history of the town of Jerome. Courtney is a fantastic guide and we enjoyed our experience!
Austin was a great tour guide. He knew a lot of history of the town. Was hoping for more Wild West History. It’s a very small reference in the narrative. More walking than expected. The history of Jerome is very interesting, but I was expecting more about The Wild West.
Loved the tour! Our guide knew so much about the history of Jerome. Note that this is mostly a walking tour, but there’s only one hill you have to go up during the tour.
Enjoyed the history of Jerome and our guide extremely knowledgeable and considerate to the people on the tour
Great experience! Guide was very knowledgeable about the history of Jerome. Lots of walking for points of interest. Would recommend.
The tour was fun and informative. Courtney was the best. The walk was perfect. The vehicle was clean
The tour was fun, informative and interesting. Our tour guide really seemed to enjoy his job. It was our 2nd tour with this company. It was great!
We should have seen the fine print that this was a 1 hour walking tour, with a 30 minute ride to the mines. Walking up and down stairs to their office, on the bottom stairs there was no rail to hang onto. If you need to use the restroom room before the tour; they advise walking 6 minutes each way to the fire station. When you get to ride the shuttle, there are no provisions for vertically challenged people to get on. You better have a partner to help you, because the tour guide will not. The excuse ‘Amazon won’t deliver here.’ is ridiculous (in my opinion ). They could buy a step stool for people to use. Be ready to walk. Also, no pictures or recording of the tour guide or anyone else on the tour. It certainly did not feel inviting. Plus it’s a misnomer in the fact that you walk most of the tour.
Courtney was an amazing guide. She really knows Jerome and the history. Her stories were very good and kept everyone there captivated. Learned a ton. She drives the van really well too.
It was a fun tour of a very old town. Our tour guide Courtney was very knowledgeable about the area and the history. She also has a fantastic funny sense of humor. Thanks for a great time!
Kourtney was excellent and knowledgeable . We enjoyed and appreciated her background information, pleasant personaty
A great tour, guide was great and had terrific knowledge of history told about the mining town of Jerome
We found the tour to be incredibly interesting & informative about the past generations who first settled there to mine & all their choices they made. Then to learn about all the historical buildings and what the current generation is now. We would say if you’re taking the time to travel to Jerome to definitely take this tour. The tour guide was pleasantly accommodating & knowledgeable.
Great information presented well . Enjoyed the extensive history of The presentation . Tour guide was excellent and happy to answer questions.
