Itinerary
This striking mid-century modern chapel sits atop a perch with a stunning view of the surrounding red rocks, from both within the sanctuary and outside. If you do go inside, please give the building the reverence you would a cathedral and maintain the silence. Outside, the parking lot is steep and often crowded, so coming early to grab a good parking spot is ideal. The walk up the ramp to the building entrance is also steep. There are three parking lots—in the middle lot is the trailhead for Chapel Trail, a highly suggested but optional hike past the red rocks. Open 9am-5pm daily, but check the website for mass and service times.
Stop at Yavapai and Courthouse Vistas for impressive views of Bell Rock, Courthouse Butte, and Sedona’s red rock landscape. Take in the scenery from the viewpoints, or spend additional time exploring nearby trails if you choose.
Get another look at Bell Rock and Courthouse Butte from this trailhead and parking lot right off the Red Rock Scenic Byway.
This well-kept visitor center has displays on the area's geology and ecology, as well as clean restrooms and a water re-fill station. Outside the main entrance is a decent scenic overlook facing Sedona's Courthouse Butte and Bell Rock. Open daily 9am-4:30pm, Wednesdays 12pm-4:30pm (bathrooms still open).
This small historic district is a great place to grab a bite while Sedona’s parking lots fill up. The cafes, restaurants, and taverns on this strip are generally cheaper than their peers in Sedona too.
Optional Stop: Explore Tuzigoot National Monument, where you can walk through the remains of a hilltop pueblo and visit the museum to learn about the people who lived here centuries ago. Admission, if you choose to enter, is purchased separately directly from the National Park Service.
Optional Stop: Visit Jerome State Historic Park and the historic Douglas Mansion to learn about Jerome’s mining history while enjoying sweeping views of the Verde Valley. Admission, if you choose to enter, is purchased separately directly from the park.
This town on a steep hillside was known as much for its loose morals and frequent disasters as it was for its booming mining business. Almost a ghost town after the mines closed, today Jerome’s crumbling buildings mix with a funky assortment of restaurants, bars, and shops. This is another cheaper lunch option than Sedona.
Optional Stop: Explore Red Rock State Park and its network of scenic trails through Sedona’s red rock landscape and along Oak Creek. Choose a short walk or spend more time hiking and enjoying the views. Admission, if you choose to enter, is purchased separately directly from the park.
Optional Stop: Visit Crescent Moon Picnic Site for beautiful views of Cathedral Rock and a peaceful walk along Oak Creek. Spend some time taking photos, enjoying the scenery, or walking part of the creekside trail. Any required day-use or parking fee is paid separately directly at the site.
This easy, flat trail is within sight of Cathedral Rock for its entire length, about 0.7 miles out and back. If you can walk down hill for about 30 steps, the trail ends on a wide ledge with a stunning, unobstructed view of Cathedral Rock ahead and the Crescent Moon Picnic Site below. If you wish to continue hiking to Crescent Moon, go to the opposite side of the ledge from where you entered to pick up what's labeled on some maps as the Ridge Trail. Follow the rock cairns along the edge of the hill to the left as the path heads downhill. The trail dead ends behind some electric boxes off Red Rock Crossing Rd. Turn left and the entrance to Crescent Moon is right there. Going this far, the hike is roughly 20 minutes one way.
Check out this easy-to-access viewpoint that gives you a gorgeous panoramic view of the best of Sedona.
Visit this Buddhist site with the historic and sacred Amitabha Stupa, meant for all to come and reflect.
Stop at Airport Mesa for panoramic views of Sedona’s famous red rock formations. Take in the scenery from the overlook, or explore the nearby viewpoint and vortex area if time allows. This is also a popular place to enjoy sunset views.
Sitting at the mouth of Oak Creek canyon, here you get a view of Midgley Bridge, which is a fascinating historic bridge. Enjoy lunch here, or just rest your feet and take in the view!
Support local artists from Arizona’s native tribes and shop for souvenir crafts, art, and jewelry. Approved vendors have direct relationships with the artists.
Visit Slide Rock State Park, a historic former apple farm surrounded by the dramatic scenery of Oak Creek Canyon. Explore the park grounds and short trails at your own pace. Temporary access notice: The Oak Creek swim area is currently closed until October 1, 2026 following the Pocket Fire. Check current Arizona State Parks conditions and follow posted signage during your visit. Park admission is purchased separately directly from Arizona State Parks.
Optional Stop: Explore the West Fork of Oak Creek, a scenic trail through a forested canyon alongside the creek. Hike as little or as much as you like before returning to your vehicle. Any required day-use or parking fee is paid separately directly at the site.
Stop at this vista at the northernmost tip of Oak Creek Canyon for a birds-eye view of the scenery. Vendors of the Native American Crafts Market set up booths on the walkway between the parking lot and the overlook daily. Some arrive as early as the vista opens and stick around as late as it closes, but midday is the best time to catch the most vendors, who sell handiworks from local native artists.

It helps to be a techie on your particular cell phone. The entire tour is downloaded to your phone and interacts based on the GPS in the phone. First time I set it up, I got two sets of directions at the same time. Cleared that by closing all the apps, and then opened just the tour. The directions are good and accurate, but the extra comments get annoying. The historical information is very good and entertaining.
We loved the Shaka driving tour and will use them again! Have already recommended it to several friends. We used it over tree different days. It took us to many places we would have missed if we were just driving around.
The Shaka app was easy to use and the audio was excellent. Directions were great and narrator had a pleasing voice that was easy to listen to. She was informative and fun. Gave great details about everything. The app allowed us to stop, start and replay whenever we needed to. Great value. We would use this app again.
Having not used "Shaka" before, I was concerned. My fears were completely unfounded. I easily uploaded the Sedona tour to my cell phone and blue toothed the phone to our rental car. We started the tour at the northern start point. The tour speaker was excellent. The info that was presented was spot on and because we could stop and start the audio tour, it left all the time we needed to view each site. There is music playing in between stops which made the transition between stops very enjoyable. A great way to see Sedona! This guided tour service is well worth the money if you want to see the area by yourself in a car. A wonderful experience!
This was little more than driving directions with an annoying passenger. I have used other audio guides and will return to their services.
This was the best way to see Sedona! My sister and I wanted to go at our own pace, see the things we haven't seen here before or especially liked on prior trips, and didn't feel like being with a group of people. It was very easy to download and use the app and the tour. We really enjoyed the narration, which included history, culture, and geology, and even some humor. The driving instructions were great, including pointing out spots that we would otherwise not have noticed, and it gave me plenty of notice before upcoming turns or stops. The tour stops included most of the landmark sites (we missed seeing some of the red rocks, but may have chosen an alternate route at some point). You can go through the entire tour in order,, or turn back at various points, along the journey. It was great - I plan to use other audio tours in the future!
Never use them. Do not answer phones do not have a real address and instructions are poor. I paid for nothing ended up doing sightseeing only. Very disappointed! I would like a refund!
Excellent way to see the sights especially if you're short on time. The tour gave great information and options to stop along the way or continue on to the next site.
Good tour, better than the high prided private tour or group tour. A little corny but nice music. We mostly drove rather than walking around so we would have appreciated more picture spots to pull over at.
We split this up between 2 days. Things open early open early and the close early. That way you can enjoy every location to its fullest. Remember parking is at a premium so if they run out you may have to wait possibly until the next day. The early bird gets the worm. Start one day clockwise and the next counter clockwise.
I had an amazing experience with the Sedona self-guided tour—highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. The flexibility was the biggest advantage; I could explore at my own pace without feeling rushed or tied to a strict schedule. The directions were clear and easy to follow, and the stops were thoughtfully curated to showcase some of Sedona’s most breathtaking views and hidden gems. What really stood out was how informative the tour was. The audio guide provided interesting background on the area’s geology, history, and local culture, which made each stop feel more meaningful. It felt like having a knowledgeable guide with me, but without the pressure of keeping up with a group. I also appreciated being able to pause whenever I wanted—whether to take photos, go on a short hike, or just soak in the scenery. Sedona’s red rock landscapes are stunning, and this tour made it easy to fully enjoy them on my own terms. Overall, this self-guided tour is perfect for travelers who value independence, flexibility, and a personalized experience. It added so much depth to my visit and made the trip truly memorable.
worst product ever. Was unable to get the app to work. Was unable to get any help when I went to the chat area. Never got to listen to the audio tour. Never got to take the trip through the tour. Won’t ever use that again.
We loved this self-guided audio tour. So much good information. It was really easy to use. We are retired and we had no issue using it. We actually used it 4 out of the 5 days that we were in Sedona. Each day we visited a different area in and around Sedona. We would start the tour and it knew exactly where we were and began telling us about upcoming places. There is a toggle button on the app, and we were able to stop the tour if we wanted to....or if it was a route that we had previously traveled and heard all about. So easy to stop and start. It was nice that it knew where we were. On day 1 we used it to orientate ourselves to Sedona. On day 2 we drove to the Grand Canyon. As soon as we turned it on and started driving, it picked up immediately and told us about spots along the way. We didn't have to do anything since it uses GPS. When coming to a major intersection in Sedona, it would give you the option of going north on a certain highway toward Flagstaff.....or an option to go south toward Cottonwood. It was great! We are going to Oahu in October and we will definitely go on the app and buy that self-guided tour, also.
The app provided great directions and information but it was hard to get it to skip stops and go to another stop
good guide, could use a little tweaks: as she hinted you'd need to leave early as parking lots get overcrowded and there is a "jockeying for position" to park so we never got to take any of the hikes. also the visitor center was closed till noon on the wednesday that we arrived, but the guide didn't tell us that till we parked.
The self guided tour was perfect for our family. We got to see a lot of Sedona that we otherwise wouldn't have even known about.
This self-guided tour is excellent for anyone looking to hit all the major landmarks. The route is well planned and the historical information provided is both comprehensive and engaging. However, the delivery was WAY over the top for my taste - to the extent that sometimes I had a hard time even listening to it. A more natural, toned down narration would make the experience much more immersive. Overall, it's a solid resource for seeing the area, provided you don't mind the cheesy voiceover.
The self guided tour was excellent. They did their research and gave interesting facts and history. The GPS part made the tour totally up to us where and when we started. Once the download knew where we were it was right there with the information.
App was easy to use. We started on the south end and toured counter clockwise. I knew the counter clockwise route would mean heavy traffic northbound through Sedona but I wanted to make sure we had enough daylight for the scenic bypass. Traffic was heavy in town but manageable. We were able to see almost everything - and completed a couple of short hikes in 11 hours. Well worth it.
It was full of interesting information, directed us perfectly along the route, the narrator had humor and charm, and it was economical.
Very confusing info to start trip and download app. Thought we had to pick up a device. Took about an hour walking around and calling company to figure out you download to phone and and mall area was just starting point. The actual download was fine.
I used one of these guides in Hawaii and loved it. The one for Sedona is just as good. They let you pick and choose your destinations and the length of stay. Great info about passes and prices also. Perfect for the senior citizens as you can get a feel for how strenuous each stop will be.
Easy to use app, comprehensive recommendations, route options and most importantly freedom of having your own car.
We arrived at starting pt but got lost and couldn’t figure out how to restart the tour. It became a waste of time and money.
Having been to Sedona several times, I wasn’t sure how helpful this would be, but we had family with us who had never been there. We all enjoyed the audio tour and learned a lot from it. It hits all the highlights I had planned for our week-long stay. I highly recommend this audio tour if you are visiting Sedona and surrounding areas.
This app was very user friendly. Download and start wherever you choose and the information is great. If you don’t want to go someplace just continue and the app keeps up I recommend when traveling to see highlights
The map took us to 3 stops that didn’t exist when we arrived. The narration was very spotty. After the 3rd time we ended up in the motor nowhere with the destination nowhere to be found, we just turned it off and went back home. Don’t bother.
Good tour especially for the price! I Would recommend. Only issue was trying to do part of the tour (I am solo) and having to pull over to toggle between gps and the guide.
The self driving guide was excellent in directing where to go and what to see. I would highly recommend this guide when visiting Sedona.
First time using Shaka Guide and boy what a great experience! Took a road trip to Grand Canyon and Sedona with wife, daughter and daughter's dog. Having the dog with us limited access to tours and locations so thought we'd give this a shot. We came in from the north and was worried as the documentation states it starts in center of town. We got on 89A South and hit start tour. Using our phone's GPS, it knew where we were and started the tour from where we were!!! So cool. Later we were in Cottonwood, spent the night, and next morning started driving towards Jerome. We remembered the app and turned it on. There we were being toured into Jerome automatically. Very cool when it pointed out a museum and there it was! I wish we knew about this for our visit to the Grand Canyon. From now on, I will look for Shaka Guides whenever and wherever our next road trip comes. Thank-you!
maybe it was the low connectivity in the area, but we found the app to be not reliable. we wanted to go to an area near where we were staying first, but it always started the conversation with a location far away from us. it did not have a narrative that went with the location we were at.
Being our first visit to the Sedona area, we needed a tour but also something affordable. This completely exceeded our expectations! We were able to customize the agenda a bit by skipping things that didn’t interest us and spend as long as we liked at the other attractions. The turn-by-turn directions were spot-on. The narration was good and easy to understand. I’d take another tour from this company if the opportunity presented itself.
Easy enough to purchase and set up, but totally useless once you try to use it. The "start point" location directions were very vague, as was everything after that. We finally gave up and found our own way around. I guess the only saving grace was it was only $15, so no major loss.
Difficult downloading; wasn't sure if I did it properly. The order time...then payment time...wasn't sure if I had it done correctly before we left on our trip. We got busy in Sedona and never tried it / used it. Oh well...
It was better than spending a great deal of money on a tour. There was so much more too see and so many places to stop and visit. So much history of the area and great hints of what to do when you stop. The gps tour gives you plenty of time to plan your stop . Do you want to see that spot or do you want continue with the tour to another spot
It didn’t work. No voice. Hard to download. A complete waste of time and money. Will not try an online tour in the future
Be sure to get it all set up in your car and utilize the power cord- allow location settings and use the Shaka guide app. Once you are all set up- it is fantastic and we enjoyed a beautiful day at our own pace. The narrator tells stories of history, gives great directions and gives you options of sites. We will 100% utilize a program like this again as we travel. Loved it.
Fabulous, fun and filled with fantastic information! 🤗 Accurate directions , history informations, leading us to every great spot, nice music in between info. Who could ask for anything more? 😁
This self-guided guide is an excellent choice for groups driving their own car. It covers the main points, the directions are very clear, and it is informative and entertaining. I would suggest to make it available to more than one phone. We could only download it to one phone, even though at the time of booking it asks you how many people are in the group.
Everywhere I travel to I am going to get a tour of the landscape, to get some familiarity of the history and while doing so get an idea of the geography and roads etc. I typically do a trolley tour or a hop on/off tour and I come to trip advisor to search for one. Well here in Sedona AZ I stumbled across this guided driving tour, because although an open air trolley sounds fun, something I typically find on trip advisor, we wanted to stay in air conditioning and do it ourselves, from our own car. Well……we were so pleasantly surprised…..so much fun, so entertaining, and spot on turn by turn directions with wonderful heads up notification prior to turns…..with landscapes even to help!! It follows your phone gps and builds in narration based on where you are! It’s great, I highly recommend!!! Worth every penny and more!!
This was a fantastic app! It was so fun and helpful. I never seen a tour that uses live GPS location like this one. I loved the options like we could do the listed route or we went whatever locations we wanted.
Not very user friendly. Unlike other GPS guided tours, it had a hard time identifying where you were at at wouldn’t play at the correct spots. With the windy roads, and the fact you were driving, you couldn’t mess with the app to make it work. Would not recommend.
This experience never happened! We purchased this same day, but the directions to the meeting place told us to actually go to a location - which we did, at the address provided. They knew nothing about it. When I spoke to this vendor, they said it was a downloadable audio. I would have been okay with it, but we never were able to access it. What a disappointing waste!
We recently used the Shaka Guide Tour of Sedona and thought it was great. Download the app, pay relatively little and have Shaka guide you to all the must-see locations with real time directions, entertaining commentary and informative tips. We also used Shaka Guide to do a 4 hour tour the Grand Canyons, which was actually even better than the Sedona tour. We hope to use this service in our future travels.
Sedona is absolutely gorgeous. It's definitely a must visit...the views the quaint towns and friendly people were so welcoming. Picture of the view does not do it any justice
Signed up for an audio tour of Sedona that I found through Tripadvisor that ended up being a viator tour. Called the company several times the same day because I couldn't get the app working using a code that they sent me. Must've wasted at least an hour on this then called to ask for a refund within the 24 hour period and received an email the next day that it is now out of the cancellation period.
Great trip! Our guide Fray, was wonderful. He made the trip fun and so informative. Truly great experience
The directions throughout the tour was spot on. We enjoyed the chatter of the gal who spoke. She gave great stories on the area we came through. I would absolutely encourage everyone to do this tour.
The tour was adequate. We only had a day to explore the area. It was helpful in leading us to the area highlights. My only criticism was that the narration was a bit juvenile for adults. The narrator spoke as if talking to smaller children. It would be good if when selecting the audio tour, we could pick a more adult narration. Thank you.
