Auto tour never started even though I downloaded it. It clearly said we could go to the suggested starting point or it would pick up anywhere. Complete waste of money

Itinerary
The Gates Pass Scenic Lookout is coming up next, offering great views of Tucson’s ancient rock formations. There’s a trail as well, which I’ll talk more about when we’re closer to it. Note: The tour is over 15+ miles long, with more than 40+ audio stories, and takes about 2-3 hours to complete. New, Lifetime access, no expiry. Use it anytime, on any trip, as many times as you want.
On this trail, there’s a ton of cholla and prickly pear cacti. You’ll recognize a prickly pear by its flat circular pads. Think Mickey Mouse ears! On the other hand, chollas have more cylindrical segments and tree-like growths. Just like the creosote bush, these cacti have a tremendous ability to store moisture. They store it in their stems, so that even in years with low rainfall, they can bloom all they want.
Welcome to your tour of West Saguaro National Park! From mountain formations to colorful historical characters, Hollywood history to prickly cacti, there’s plenty to marvel at on this tour.
The park has since been rebuilt and remains open to the public today. To visit the park, take the turn that’s just ahead. Otherwise, continue driving straight.
Coming up soon is the Brown Mountain Trail. It’s a 5-mile loop trail that’s moderately challenging and should take under two hours to complete. Some hikers have reported coyote sightings on this trail. It’s not uncommon to hear coyote sounds echoing across Saguaro National Park.
Coming up are the King Canyon Trail and the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. The trail is a moderately challenging 7-mile trail that should take about four hours to complete. It’s a lot of work, but it features fabulous desert views along the way!
Coming up are the King Canyon Trail. The trail is a moderately challenging 7-mile trail that should take about four hours to complete. It’s a lot of work, but features fabulous desert views along the way!
The Desert Discovery Nature Trail is coming up soon, a straightforward half-mile hike boasting tons of the famous saguaro cacti! Speaking of cacti, did you know a bunch of species are edible? This doesn’t mean you should go plucking them to taste on your walks.
The Hugh Norris Trail is coming up soon. It’s a challenging 9-mile trail often traveled by horseback riders! It gets its name from 20th-century tribal police officer Hugh Norris. He was often out scouring for truant children for the Fort Yuma Indian School.
The Valley View Overlook Trail is coming up soon. It’s an easy 1-mile trail that takes about 20 minutes to complete. The Civilian Conservation Corps built this trail in the 1930s!
Signal Hill has about 200 prehistoric petroglyphs made by the Hohokam, who lived in this area from about 450 to 1450 C.E. Indigenous people say that each petroglyph placement isn’t random!
Welcome to East Saguaro National Park! Ancient cultures, ancient rocks, and trails await you on this tour. Our tour begins at the Rincon Mountain Visitor Center at 3693 S Old Spanish Trail, Tucson. If you’re not there already, you should head there now. To begin your tour, simply continue straight along Cactus Forest Drive.
The Sonoran Desert Overlook is coming up. It’ll be on our left, offering gorgeous views of the landscape and cacti. The Hohokam, ancestors of the O’odham people, were some of the first to call this desert home. This resourceful group slowly gave up their nomadic hunting-gathering lifestyle for a more settled farming life, developing a distinct desert culture.
The Cactus Forest Overlook is coming up soon. It will be on our left. Here, you’ll enjoy overlooking an oasis of cacti. Sure, the saguaro cacti are the most famous since they’re exclusive to the Sonoran, but the park actually hosts about 25 species of cacti! These include prickly pears and chollas, as well as some lesser known cacti.
Coming up is the Mica View trailhead. It leads to a 4-mile loop trail that’s considered easy and should take less than ninety minutes to complete. There’s a sweet picnic spot, too! From there, you’ll get great views of the Rincon and Santa Catalina Mountains. Keep an eye out for birds like the Gila Woodpeckers and Gilded Flickers.
Up ahead is the Cactus Forest Trail. It’s a moderately challenging 10-mile route that should take about three and a half hours to complete. On this trail, you can see lime kilns that date back to 1880.
The Loma Verde Trail is coming up next. This easy 3.7-mile loop should take about an hour and fifteen minutes to complete. The trail crosses a seasonal stream and leads to a gradual downhill walk through the cactus forest.
There’s also the opportunity to explore the Garwood Dam. In 1945, Tucson residents Jospehine and Nelson Garwood bought 450 acres of land from two homesteaders. Three years later, while constructing a bigger house, they noticed that the Wildhorse Canyon behind their property always held water.
Up ahead is the Riparian Overlook. Some claim this is the best view of the cactus forest! From here, you can see clear across the sprawling saguaro wilderness. One thing you can’t see from up there? Rattlesnakes.
Off to our left are the Rincon Mountains. They’re pretty, but they’ve also got some wild history. On August 29, 1984, a Cessna 310 flew above these mountains. Four people sat inside the twin-engine aircraft. Outside, a thunderstorm raged and raged.
We’re approaching the Javelina Rocks. These rocks are named after javelina, a dog-sized animal found in this region that resembles a wild boar. They have short coarse salt and pepper hair, with short legs and pig-like noses.
The Tanque Verde Ridge Trail is coming up soon, at the end of our tour. I’ll tell you when we get there. The trail is a moderately challenging 3-mile route that should take under two hours to complete.

This was awesome. Perfectly timed as you drove through the park. Alot of great informationIabout the history of the park. We will definitely use them again for our next tour
The self guided tour was very interesting, take your time see all the cactus and description. Laid back you take your time and no need of pausing finds you where you are such a cool path finding. Enjoyed the stores and learning why animals habitat, was wishing to see at least one of the animal was describe. The day we went was really hot. Admission fee was reasonable and worth going.
This tour was the highlight of our trip to Tucson. We downloaded the app at our hotel using their Wi-Fi, and it worked perfectly offline throughout both the East and West districts. It’s like having a private guide in the car—very informative and easy to use. Great value since you only need one download for the whole vehicle!
The web site and app are not user friendly at all. Would not recommend this to anyone.
We used the Action Tour app to play back this tour's downloaded soundtrack while our phone was plugged into existing Android Auto... the experience was flawless. I like that if you drift off course because you have stopped along the way, you don't have to "un-pause" the tour at all when resuming. It just picks up automatically where you left off once the car is back on the main course again. The map part of the app worked well, the facts were interesting and well narrated, and the tour was a good overall length. I recommended it to others. Would do it again in a heartbeat.
We really enjoyed the audio tour of Saguaro National Park. We learned about the history of the park and enjoyed the stops that the tour recommended. It was a great way to see the park!
Once we got the hang of how it works, it was great. It's not all that obvious about where the tour starts, especially if there is no landmark. We were driving to the starting point and it just started on its own. Narrations pop in whenever you cross a "bubble" boundary.
Great way to see/hear about the park. Would use this audio app again for future parks. Easy to use and very informative about the park and trails.
This tour with ActionTourGuide had some problems and did not work well for us. I was able to download the tour and start it just fine. However, there were multiple times when the narrator would simply start talking from my phone for no reason at all when we were in a visitor center or out hiking. He is only supposed to speak when we are driving and go across a specific location. When he did start speaking, the recording almost always cut off the beginning 5 seconds and the ending 5 seconds of what he was saying, so we did not get his full talk. This guide did not have a good map showing where we were in relation to driving and stops. This guide was very limited as to recommending or talking about hikes, museums and other attractions in the nearby area. When he did give information, it was sometimes wrong. There was one short hike that was 0.3 mile and took about 10 minutes; he said it was 2 1/2 miles and would take 45-60 minutes. That’s quite a difference! I have used other guides in the past and they work much better. I will not use ActionTourGuide again. I recommend GuideAlong.
The self guided tour is easy to follow. The narration is spot on. Many places to stop and see the sites. Some of the roadway is not paved. Overall very enjoyable.
In my opinion this Self-Guided Driving Audio tour was the best way to visit Saguaro N.P. It was very helpful to hear descriptions of what we were seeing. Also helpful to know when we were approaching a turn out for viewing the landscape up close or having access to a trail. We learned about history of the park and the people who lived in the area years ago. Also heard info about the plants and animals in the park. You can just drive through the park and say these plants are weird and what animal can live here. Or listen to the audio tour and become better informed. Visitor center was worth the stop.
Very informative narrative. Well worth the small investment. Not only about the park but also attractions and history along the way.
This was a great tour and allowed for diverted routes along the way. Lots of history and little known facts. We will certainly use these tours again.
The app worked great. Go see what's suggested or decide not to. Made the drive much more interesting. This is the only place in the world where these cactuses are located.
It was nice to know where to drive to see certain things and to know what we were saying. It didn’t make my time driving through the area better.
This is a review of the audio narration only. I was disappointed that a significant amount of the narration was copied and pasted from another tour narration I did just days before with this same provider.
Very well done. We plan on using their driving tours in several cities we plan to visit. Worked just as advertised. It made the day.
The audio tour is great; it guides us to the most popular scenic drive in the park. The GPS is accurate, the audio plays automatically when we hit a viewpoint. However, the audio is incomplete; it abruptly ends before narrating the entire story.
We enjoy—possibly prefer—the self-guided driving tour. We have three more scheduled for this trip!! Being able to pause the tour works well with taking pics. The background info provided on the tape enhances what we’re seeing!
I have done this tour before with out the app. It was a much better experience and the information was different than the pamphlet I got at the visitors center. Cool idea!
You can drive through the park and it is wonderful. But adding this guided tour takes it to the next level. Highly recommend!
The information itself was interesting however being the driver and sole occupant in vehicle I couldn't keep looking at the phone app. Ultimately it stopped talking and I kept driving... 20 mins out of the way! When I realized it couldn't be correct, I pulled over and restarted the app at the last place that I remembered. Besides that big issue, it did follow along on the route ok.
We really enjoyed the driving tour and the self guided tour allowed us to stop and explore when and where we wanted. Look forward to doing the other side of the Park and exploring other tours.
Clear instructions, easy to download, clear audio and interesting stories. I will definitely be using this service at other national parks, it was quite entertaining
This was a great way to spend the day, while touring in a new town. Saw lots of breathtaking views and the hearing about the history was a lovely add on, and definitely appreciated the GPS/map feature as well.
This self guided driving tour is next level. The GPS triggered talks as you make your way along the tour route are amazing. We even left the path several times and it picked right up when we returned. The short lectures are so informative. My kids were telling my business colleagues all the factoids they had learned while on the tour at dinner that evening. I am going to download some additional tours as we head to airport. We are headed to Washington DC next weekend and will plan time for those as well.
This was such a great way to explore a new place. Interesting stories along the way as well as information about off the main road areas that you wouldn’t know about otherwise. Our tour of Saguaro National Park was in two areas (east and west). We only planned to drive the west park, but enjoyed it so much that two days later we toured the east park.
Overall this was an effective way to tour the Saguaro National Park in Tucson. I had a problem pairing the tour audio with my car multimedia, but we listened on my iPhone. The pronunciation of key words during the audio was occasionally incorrect (Sonoran). Was it computer generated?
Enjoyed the tour. Had a little trouble getting the Android Auto working with the app, but I blame the car / Android Auto, not the tour app. Already recommended it to family for a future visit. One thing that was not clear from the Trip Advisor app/page was that there are two tours included. I wish the Trip Advisor page explained that. We just went to the address that was listed in Trip Advisor. We did not realize there were two distinct and separated parks and when we finished the West tour, we were confused where to go for the East tour. I wish the audio would have given an address verbally to go to. We had no cell service at the end of the West tour which added to the confusion.
These self guided tours are fantastic! Such a great way to take note of areas you would overlook otherwise. Love tat they start and stop to our schedule not theirs
As a first time user, I didn’t know what to expect. I am glad to say that I am impressed with this experience. User friendly packed with great information and stories of the history of the area. I’m so impressed that I’m going to look into other audiotapes for the next area we are going to visit. I’m from Chicago and would love it if there were audiotapes about the different neighbors. Great job! You’ve won me as a fan.
We very much enjoyed the audio enhancement to our tour. It was very informative and enjoyable. It added a wonderful historical perspective to an area we were unfamiliar with and would not hesitate to recommend to others.
We loved seeing the Saguaro cacti up close at the Saguaro National Park. The audio helped us to know what to look for at each stop.
So easy and informative. We are from out of town so this was a great intro to this beautiful park. There were several opportunities to get out and take a hike.
Didn’t work for me. The audio tour never arrived. I reached out to the Operator, but they didn’t respond when I let them know.
Glad we purchased this for our drive through the park. We enjoyed listening to the narrative as we drove through the park. We were able to stop it and restart it. It was a nice addition for the tour. The app was easy to install and use and the audio actually went through the radio in the vehicle. After our drive through the park we looked to see if we could use this app for another area in Arizona .. . . that's how much we liked this audio tour.
This was our 3rd self guided national park tour. Absolutely worth it! We love the added history, context, and stories along the way. The descriptions of each attraction are helpful as well when determining when to pull over or keep driving.
A fantastic way to explore the desert. We did both the tours. This is a great way to enjoy and learn about the park. If you like nature and road trips you should definitely check it out.
Great idea if you want to sightsee, but are not a hiker. The narrative is very informative. You can start and stop when you want.
