Ponderosa to Goldwater Lake This route is one of our favorites. It has a good mix of get your heart pumping off-road thrills and some of the most picturesque views you'll find. We keep this trip mostly in the tall pines with lots of steep ascents and descents and a few water crossings. We finish up with a 15 minute break at Goldwater lake for pictures and then return to the Square.
We had such a great time with Tom from Angry Apes Off-roading...he was very informative about the history of the town and buildings...had great recommendations on restaurants and places to eat.... would definitely recommend if you are new to Arizona❤️❤️❤️ $120 a person 90 mins long

Had a fantastic time. Route was fun with a few challenging technical spots. Rigs are fully capable and Dary was informative and a good safe driver. Done some off-roading and this did not disappoint. I highly recommend taking advantage of this unique experience.

We went out with Tom yesterday and had a great time! He's a great driver, has a lot of knowledge of the history of the area, and he's a great person. We would take another of his tours and recommend Angry Ape.
The tour was truly an adventure, and totally informative with sights that are amazing. Our tour guide, John, was very, very knowledgeable and wonderfully amiable. He thoroughly explained every part of our tour into the forest back trails and extra areas, such as the beautiful swimming holes tucked into the forest. John also told us the mining and gold panning history of the area. We had a great Sunday morning and enjoyed the entire experience.
We had a great summer adventure on my son's birthday! We had so much fun crossing the creeks and driving through the Ponderosa Pines. It was a plus to be able to walk down to the lake! Tom was very knowledgeable and we learned a ton of stuff about everything on our tour. We are looking forward to going again, this winter for a snowy adventure!

We were celebrating my brother's 75th birthday and it turned out to be one of the best surprises for him ever! The Hummer was easily accessible for him to get in and out of and he had a front row seat (highly recommend that as you see more of the road you are about to be on, more thrilling than back seat) Tom was a great driver and full of information that was quite interesting. We all really enjoyed it. I am already planning on booking the Sunset and S'mores tour!
Excellent adventure. Tom was our guide (and owner). He was super knowledgeable about the local area both historically and geographically. He kept us entertained the entire ride. And it was a fun ride. If he gives you the choice of easy or wild, go for the wild ride. I’m 68 and it was a blast. You’ll love it. You only live once!

We had a great trip on the Hummer last Saturday. We opted for the scenic rather than teeth chattering version. Tom (the owner of Angry Ape) was our guide and you could tell he truly loved what he was doing and was extremely knowledgeable about both what we saw on the tour and area in general. I would recommend it.

Tom is an incredible tour guide. He explains so much detail about the local Prescott area as well as the Forrest he takes you through in his awesome Hummer SUV.
This is not your typical tour and not for the faint of heart. HOwever, it is for those with an adventurous spirt and a desire for a thrill. I wondered how Tom could be so fresh in his delivery of information. He has to share his information to all his customers, but it still sounds fresh and personal. After this tour, you will recognize you did something unique and memorable. My husband and I were very pleased to have done this and will consider doing another tour down the road.
Tom was great and so knowledgeable during the tour! Even offered to stop and let us watch the sunset. If you’re looking for something to do during your visit, i recommend giving this a try.
We all had a great time. Tom was our guide and he treated us excellent. We got to hear great stories while driving over rocks and ruts in the trails of the forest. We got to see wildlife and visit some of his favorite spots and saw one of the best sunsets reflecting off a lake. He stopped anytime we wanted pictures. None of us knew what to expect and my kids have already been told to book this trip when they visit later this year.

Very enjoyable tour. Led by Tom, owner of the tour service. Pick-up at our hotel was right on time. Opted for a scenic route because my wife was not up for a shake-and-bake tour that would allow the Hummer to really strut its stuff. However, we came down the mountain through some challenging canyons that were a blast. The scenery was excellent. Tom continuously filled us in on everything from the history of Prescott and surrounding area to interesting facts about the geology and geography we were passing through. Quite a worthwhile experience!
It was an awesome experience! Bought the package for my son who recently was diagnosed with cancer; So he could spend some time with his daughter! There were 2 couples they all said it was great!! Definitely worth the money / book your trip ! It turned out after 4 days of nothing but rain the day was beautiful sunny and high 50’s. The driver / owner was pleasant , fun and interacted well with all and a really great driver! There were a few sketchy moments We didn’t know we could make it through but he sure did and it was truly amazing experience.

We took the Sierra Prieta & Copper Canyon trip in September 2025, Our guide was Tom, who is also the owner. He is very knowledgeable about the terrain and history of the area. Great views and an enjoyable ride. When we got back, we realized we didn't have our car key fob. We searched our hotel, retraced our steps and had no luck We called Tom and he got back to us right away, found the keys and brought the to us. Thanks Tom!
My husband & I had a fabulous time with John! He was such a knowledgeable and fun guide/driver, and it's clear he's not only intimately familiar with the area but genuinely loves it. We took some wild routes through the forest that our own car would never have survived. While the wildlife wasn't out in abundance, we did see some deer and a wild turkey. This is an excellent tour to experience nature a whole different way. Highly recommend!
ANGRY APE OFF-ROAD TOURS did not disappoint. Tom, the owner knows a thing or two about a thing or two. He was professional and very knowledgeable about all things Prescott, not to mention Tom is an experienced off-roader. He picked us up in one of his H3 vehicles, and let me tell you... I was impressed! That Hummer handled everything the Prescott National Forest threw at it and then some. All the while, Tom didn't spin a wheel/tire the entire trip. The H3 was comfortable, capable, and perfect for our group of 3. We made it to the top of Quartz Mountain with Tom at the wheel, keeping us entertained and safe along the trail. He provided us with refreshments and a photo opportunity on top of the mountain that also included magnificent views! This was one of the best guided tours that I've ever been on. I was fortunate enough to ride shotgun, and Tom kept us all engaged without being overbearing, as he stated, "This is our trip and we can talk as little or as much as we want ". I highly recommend ANGRY APE OFF-ROAD TOURS if you're looking for an awesome Prescott adventure.
We had an incredible off-road adventure through Prescott National Forest! The trails were absolutely stunning, with views that made every turn an exciting discovery. Our guide Tom was fantastic—extremely knowledgeable about Prescott’s history and the area’s unique topography. He kept things fun with his humor and was so friendly and accommodating, even providing drinks along the way. The ride itself was surprisingly comfortable. We explored the rugged trails in a Hummer H3, which felt both cushy and capable—perfect for navigating the terrain while still relaxing and enjoying the scenery. Overall, this was an unforgettable experience that I’d recommend to anyone visiting Prescott who wants a mix of adventure, history, and natural beauty.
Tom picked us up at our lodge right on time. Driving a serious mean business Hummer. The weather was hot and it was a relief to get into the national forest shade although in a short time the road transformed into a trail and it became clear why were in a Hummer! Too hot to see much wildlife but there were deer and plenty of birds and squirrels. We were out well over 90 minutes and traversed some pretty hairy sections. Glad to get to the lake to stretch our legs and get a snack and cold beverage. Tom definitely knew his stuff and we were regaled by many interesting anecdotes.

This tour is worth it! Went 4 wheeling in a Hummer. Private tour. Just the 2 of us in each vehicle. 4 Hummers altogether. Went way up into the National Forest. Had some very steep terrain!! Andy handled the Hummer flawlessly! Then we went to a lake....can't remember which one. But it was awesome. Highly recommend!!!!!
Great and best experience at the Prescott National Forest, with giant wonderful trees, rare species, lake and beautiful diverse wildlife. Expert 4-wheel driver, very knowledgeable, courteous, that makes extreme experiences very comfortable and luxurious (Air conditioning super Hummer).

These guys were absolutely awesome!! We took a group of 45 out as part of a youth group camping experience for jr high and high school kids. They were professional and engaged them in appropriate conversation throughout while giving them a great ride. The kids and adults in our group couldn't wipe the goofy grin of their face between laughs and getting rocked around. They did have seats for 24 at a time so we took turns in our group.

We had such a great time! Our driver was friendly and knoledgable about the area. We specifically did the Bannie Mine tour and learned so much about the area and even saw a flock of wild turkeys! Was a great way to spend the day with visiting family! Highly recommended!
Awesome trail riding at the Bannie Mine Trial. We got to see areas we would have not otherwise seen during our visit to Prescott. We got to help remove a huge log off the trail, which was an added bonus for us. John are tour driver was fun and very informative and drove like a pro. Would definitely go back on another trail ride.
