Historic 1880's Gold Mine Jeep Adventure Near Scottsdale Phoenix

We had a wonderful time on the Gold Mine Tour with Rackensack Canyon Tours. We explored Tanto National Forest and an authentic, old gold mine. Our guide Rebel was friendly and knowledgeable, and able to answer all of our questions. You really got an understanding of life back in the area 100+ years ago and the flora and fauna of the area. Charles and Ginger were warm and welcoming, and our kids got to learn how to lasso! The 3-hour timing of the tour was the perfect amount of time. Would highly recommend this tour!

Very informational. Perfect for sight seeing and nature. Charles and Ginger were the perfect host with snacks and a wonderful conversation. Then off to the gold mine. Our guide, Paul, was very knowledgeable and amazing! Highly recommend the whole experience!

Our tour guide Rebel was fun and gave us lots of information. The ride was scarey at times going up switchbacks with no guard railing but, our driver knew the roads well. The couple who owned the mine were very gracious and welcoming.

It was unbelievable. Much better than advertised. It was so very personalized. Felt like visiting our own family members!

Such a beautiful atmosphere like nothing I've ever seen before. If you are from out of state this is a must do! The guide big D was amazing and the hosts Ginger and Charlie make you feel so at home! Worth every penny would do it again!!

I went on the Rackensack Mine tour yesterday and had an amazing time. The jeep ride up the mountain (4,500 feet!) was an adventure on its own, with some great views and a bit of a thrill. Once we got to the mine, we got to explore inside and see some really beautiful rose quartz veins. We also met the owners, Charles and Ginger, who were so friendly and welcoming; it’s clear they really care about what they do. Our guide, Dave, was awesome. Super laid-back, funny, and really knew his stuff. He made the whole tour fun and interesting, and he was a great driver too, he got us safely up and down that mountain with no problem. If you're looking for something different and fun to do around Carefree, I’d definitely recommend this tour!

A great tour, full wonderful history about this area of Arizona. "Reb" our driver was really special with a vast knowledge of the plants and animals seen during the tour, plus a great sense of humor as she described the mine and artifacts.

Fabulous experience. A ‘must’ to include on your Cave Creek adventure. Rebel is an expert jeep adventure driver and information guide. The owners welcome you into their private home which is a marvel in itself. This event is worth every penny. For us, it didn’t last quite long enough. So much to see!

David was an excellent tour guide. He really went out of his way to make it personable and enjoyable.

About 15 of us went on a team building outing to ride Jeeps, take in views, and enjoy an adventure. Our drivers and hosts kept us safe and entertained on a beautiful day while we enjoyed the views, did a little gift shopping, and ventured into the mine.

What a fun time we had on the Gold Mine Jeep Adventure. Our guide was friendly and very informative as we jeeped to the top of the mountain to see the old gold mines. The views were stunning and it was a truly unique experience.

Our multigenerational family had a great time on this tour. Dave picked us up in the jeep and we had a great ride with lots of good information as we climbed our way up to Rackensack Canyon to meet Ginger and Charles. The views were breathtaking and got our adrenaline flowing. Our host Ginger and Charles were so welcoming when we reached their lovely mountain top home. We enjoyed their hospitality and beautiful views from every corner of their home. Then it was off to the gold mine tour. This is not your typical tour and we recommend it!

Great experience for three generations in our family. From the tie we got picked up by our driver Dave, we enjoyed this trip. Dave gave us lots of good information and entertaining stories. Ginger and Charles were so welcoming and the best hosts. We absolutely loved the views, delicious snacks and warm setting they provided our family. The gold mine tour was something we had never done before and so interesting. If you are looking for a unique family experience this trip will not disappoint.

We had a great day visiting the town of Carefree and then taking this informative tour with breathtaking views, nonstop interesting stories and history, some fun stops and activities along the way, gracious friendly hosts living off the grid, and the mine visit with demonstration of what is was truly like working down there back in the prospecting days. Highly recommended!

I live in Cave Creek and was planning a long weekend gathering for 12 Naval Academy classmates and spouses. Charles was very communicative and friendly. He arranged a tour that really exceeded our expectations! We picked up (22 folks) at the Cave Creek museum and proceeded to the Rackensack property. The entirety of Rackensack falls within the Tonto National Forest. Occupying three vehicles we were treated to spectacular views as we climbed to the summit of their property. We stopped along the way where flara and fauna were expertly by Charles and Rebel. They were not only informative but explained the plants and animals in a down to earth way that held everyone’s interest. Arriving at Rackensack HQ we were served refreshments and light snacks. We had the opportunity to take in more awesome views of the surrounding mountains and desert landscape, as well as try our hands at corn hole and calf roping! They also have a small gift shop with some beautiful hand-made jewelry and leather goods. We then made our way to an actual gold mine! The mine itself is impressive as were the numerous artifacts they showed us. We rode down the mountain taking in more fantastic views, returning to the museum for a private, docent-led tour. These folks put together a top notch tour. If you’re looking to experience Arizona’s beauty and learn about desert animals, flora and the state’s gold mining history you’ll enjoy this tour! Great experience!!

This is beyond an excellent tour! Charles and Miss Ginger were absolutely lovely hosts and surprised us with the BEST welcome reception once we reached the top of their gorgeous mountain property. Authentic people and our tour guide Rebel was so fun and knowledgeable. We learned so many interesting things and saw some of the BEST scenery I've ever witnessed. The mine was extremely interesting and I can't wait to take more family and friends on this amazing adventure.

This was an incredible experience from the moment I spoke to Charles on the phone! He was incredibly helpful and compassionate towards my request to propose to my girlfriend in the gold mine! Their team truly went above and beyond setting up a table, candles, flowers, and even a non-acloholic sparkling cider toast INSIDE the mine! I could not have asked for a better teammate to help me pull this off! She did say yes for those wondering! Not to mention, the jeep tour itself was breathtakingly beautiful! Our tour guide Rebel was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and full of energy! The stop at the top of the mountain at 4,400ft elevation in the gift shop was jaw dropping! We really enjoyed meeting Charles & Ginger, hearing their story, soaking in the panoramic views, cozy flames of the fire pit, and even got a roping lesson! Then the trek down into the gold mine was very intriguing! We really enjoyed all the history that Rebel shared with us...and of course my girlfriend found some gold (and a diamond) down there in the form of her engagement ring :) If you are looking to propose, there are other great spots on this tour you could propose too: like at gift shop on the back porch near the campfire overlooking the tonto national forest, or for a little more private place, on the path overlooking the lower entrance of the gold mine and tonto national forest to the north. Either way, I know Charles and Ginger will help you make it special and unforgettable for you, just like they did for us! Thank you guys!!

The depth of knowledge of the tour guide about everything on this tour was amazing from the time we boarded the jeep to inside the mine. History of the first nation settlements, the arrival of the miners, the relics left behind from the mining era, the current cultures, the plants and animal life and geological formations of the area, were all detailed. Views were extensive at the top and on the way. They took us to another world, and the hosts with the little shop at the top were warmly welcoming. We will come back with our spouses for a repeat!

Paul was a great tour guide. He had lots of fun facts and drove the jeep up the mountain like a pro. Charles and Ginger are great hosts, inviting us in to view their home that sits on top of the mountain. The views are breathtaking. Highly recommend!

I went on the tour with a group of guests from Cave Creek Museum and represented the Museum as the Volunteer Coordinator. We listened as Rebel gave an outstanding presentation (via microphone) of the Cave Creek Mining history and local sights on the Jeep drive to the Rackensack Mine. When we arrived we were greeted by Charlie and Ginger Underwood, the property owners, who invited us in to their home to relax and enjoy refreshments while they shared more stories of the property’s history. Next, Charlie escorted us to the mine where we actually went into the tunnel and experienced what it would have been like to work in such an environment by candlelight only! What a fabulous way to spend an afternoon!

Fantastic tour! Rebel, our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable and kept us interested and entertained the whole time. The views were spectacular and the cliffside mountain drive was adventurous! We enjoyed meeting Charles (former championship bull rider) and his wife, Ginger, who now the land we were exploring. They were very hospitable hosts. Their mountaintop home and guest space is beautiful. We enjoyed going into the gold mine that was operational in the late 1800's and early 1900's and hearing the stories about how they mined for gold. Overall a great tour. Highly recommend.
