With an exuberant view to the Majestic cone-shape colossus and fully surrounded by a tropical rain forest, the Arenal volcano area is one of the most worthy experiences for those visitors who seek natural beauty and adventure.
Sitting at the base of the Volcano, lies the Arenal Lake, Costa Rica’s largest lake with thirty-three square miles (eighty-five square km) and a depth of two hundred feet (sixty meters). This artificial lake was built in 1979 to generate hydroelectric energy, but it has become a landmark for costarrican people, as it has been a valuable resource for farming and a huge attraction for tourism, where many water activities take place. It provides a combination of adventure and natural sightseeing, a lifetime experience!
From the hotel of your selection in Arenal, an A/C Van/Bus will pick you up and take you to the boarding point at the Arenal Lake’s edge. This transfer takes about 40 minutes. Once you get to the boarding point at the lake, you will receive the equipment required to do the activity, including a single-person kayak, life vest, paddles and all safety instructions and kayaking techniques from an expert to set you up.
During the following two hours and a half, you will travel along with a guide and a safety boat throughout the tour, where the naturalistic guide will be very attentive to show you the exquisite biodiverse fauna with different species of birds, fish and mammals.
While crossing the lake, you will be able to stop at an island where you can enjoy the view and take photos of the green surroundings as it matches amazingly well with the rest of the landscape, such as the Arenal volcano and Tilaran mountain range.
This is an impressive stage in every corner and, if you are lucky, the cloudless sky will let you see the volcano reflected on the clear waters of the lake. Then, you can take a refreshing swim before heading to the entrance in front of the volcano.
