Rural tourism activities in Costa Rica offer travelers an intimate glimpse into the country’s cultural heritage and communities.
At the arranged time, the bilingual guide and an air-conditioned vehicle will transport you to Arenal Vida Campesina, located in the outskirts of La Fortuna at only 25 minutes from your selected hotel. This property offers a cultural and interactive walk on a self-sustained and organic farm where you can experience the rural life style in the Costa Rican countryside with a family that is practicing newer sustainable agricultural techniques to produce 80% of what they prepare in their restaurant.
Upon arrival, the tour begins with a 40 minutes demonstration of the process of extracting the sugarcane juice using a manually operated mill. You will be able to participate from the beginning to the end of the process, including cutting sugarcane, working the mill and most importantly, drinking the natural sugarcane juice.
Afterwards, the tour continues (one hour and half walk) through the different plantations, including sugarcane, coffee and bananas, as well as other products. In each plantation, the guide will explain you the artisan process using typical artifacts that are involved in the production.
The tour also includes the visit to a sanctuary of trees in danger of extinction and educational explanation of a Biodigestor and the production of organic fertilizers.
At La Guaria Morada restaurant, you will be part of the “making tortillas” activity a funny way to learn how to prepare this delicious recipe and then, you will enjoy a typical-organic lunch, cooked on a woodstove and made with products harvested from sustainable farming, the essence of organic concept farm-to-table
Lunchtime will be the perfect opportunity to taste a variety of fresh locally produced ingredients, which are the bedrock of Costa Rican cuisine.
