The Mistico Hanging Bridges tour is an eco-tourism attraction within a 618-acre reserve of primary forest and it is a perfect place for bird watchers to discover the wonderful species of the Costa Rica jungles.
This private park is part of a biological corridor that allows the flow of birds that inhabit between the volcanic mountain range and the northern lowlands.
The density of its biodiversity provides a wildlife sanctuary to see a very good variety of second growth species, forest birds and migratory among the vibrant primary rainforest canopy on trails and rigid/hanging bridges varying in length and height.
Early Morning, taking advantage of the cooler time when birds are most active, the tourist Van/Bus will pick you up at your selected hotel and after a short 25 minutes ride, you will arrive to the welcome centre to start the bird-watching tour.
The naturalist guide will lead you along about 7 of the bridges and regular trails before taking an alternative birding trail, which courses through dense forest.
In total, the bird-watching trail is approximately 2,500 meters long and takes typically 2-3 hours to complete with many stops along the way for instruction and bird spotting.
Birding here can be interesting, mixed flocks contain Plain Antvireo, Spotted Woodcreeper, Northern Barred-Woodcreeper, White-fronted Nunbird, Scarlet-rumped Caciques. Other birds include Keel-billed Motmot, Rufous Motmot, Broad-billed Motmot, Purplish-backed Quail-Dove, Violaceous Trogon, Keel Billed Tucan, Great Curassow and Crested Guan. Right from the beginning of the trail you can usually see Short-tailed Hawk, Green Hermit, White Hawk, Gray Hawk and in occasions Ornate Hawk-Eagle. 50-60 species are regularly counted during this tour.
